SXSW is a month away. I know there were a few threads before about Ridazz coming to TX for that. Who is going? I don't know anyone in Austin, but I do need to be in the US of A for a conference in Boston that just happens to be the week right after SXSW. If anyone else is underemployed, I'd be down for getting a place to stay the whole week of the 16th. Looks like there is a glut of SXSW rentals on craigslist and given the impending economic craphole I think we can negotiate something quite affordable.
Ok, I just read a little bit about this whole SXSW thing, and now the whole "film" and "music" thing makes more sense. The music is only going to be there from Wed March 18th to Sunday March 22. I think that's the one we all want to go to.
There are wrist-bands that cover all the shows for $180, or you can pay cover at the door at each show, and apparently many shows are free. I'm not planning to get a wrist band.

I think Skull by Skull Now is the side of Austin you want to see! Its the xxx-rated version of Bike Kill, Texas Edition. Take a look at this photo set ! How can you not be scared-excited to come to this.....
I know that they scared or upset or left bad tastes in some mouths at Bike Kill but these guys know how to come original and make fun happen...Its just a little more dangerous than the LA version of fun. with more mud. and blood. and a lot more vomit and piss. whattttevs....
Its a 26 hour drive. I am totally down to do it. I miss the Western and Southwestern landscape. Plus I know a couple stops we could make. Marfa TX for one. Bicas, Tuscon AZ for another. There, that's a couple.
26 hours would be closer to right... my dad made it from here to Dallas in 24 hours of time behind the wheel. And he didn't need the potty breaks every hour that a car full of Ridazz seems to need. Maybe for this trip it would be worth it to rent one of those fancy bus with a bathroom in the back?
Btw, I'm now finally starting to consider maybe going to SXSW. This is AFTER living in Dallas for 4 years.

i think i saw that some people were trying to carpool, and one person so far is flying... i think he's going to fed ex his bicycle to me. if there are a few people who absolutely can't get their bikes here, then i'm sure we can find a way to accomodate them.
We could rent a van if we get like 15 people, strap the bikes to the roof. Or if there's not enough people in time, I'm just gonna fly and either bring my bike or find one there for the week!
the only thing about driving that concerns me is timing. It adds 2 days to the trip, for traveling time. BUT riding in the van with Ridazz would be super fun anyway, so its a win-win!
BTW, driving is fun and I wish I had a van, there'd be no question that yall'd be in it! AND I hope someone here has a van. AND I hope they're good-looking at sharp and a safe driver, three helpful things on a road trip. AND lets go to Austin!

Wow, We've been talking about doing this for two years and now it looks like it's going to happen. I want to go very badlee, but my current situation has put me on the uncertain list. Someone reserve a 15 passenger van. The cost per person for Portland was 150 each for a 4 day van rental. Marino helped me find the rental last time. Look it up now and reserve something. Get a list of 15 fart free ridazz and your set.

Someone could rent a one way van rental. ( I don't know if this exists)
That way you only pay for the two days of usage and don't have a van in between time. And then get a one way rental back.
However, you will also need to find a pickup truck to take all of the bikes, (with wheels removed for better stacking), so they can all be hauled down in one vehicle. B-Rad did this for us with Marcus. Be sure to label all of the wheels.
Otherwise, take a greyhound. But I doubt they will be bike space friendly. Perhaps you could take a greyhound and there will be a person with a van or pickup to volunteer to take the bikes down and up like B-Rad did.

Look to see if there is a bus company that service the Spanish speaking Latin American Immigrant community, that goes to Austin
It is so much better then Greyhound. There is one in California called Intertransporte Californias that i have used. It was 10% less expensive then greyhound. They didn't sweat you about your bike. No extra bike fee, you didn't have to box it up. Best of all they treated me with respect, which greyhound will never do.

Much awesomeness! We need to find a place for everyone to stay. Widowmaker graciously offered space for 5 people, but it looks like there is going to be more than that. I'm down to get a place with a few other ridazz, that way those who otherwise couldn't afford to go can crash at widowmaker's. There's some pretty good deals on craigslist:
i've never squatted with a group but I gaurantee you'll find something independently. i dont think Skidmarxxx house can accomodate us during this time, there'll be a lot of them at the spot. no problem staying in different places though. 5 here, 5 there.

I'm interested. Marcus what's up with the bus? Is the issue funding? Taking money that would we would spend on vans or planes might be better used on the bus if we get enough people interested. I know I would be 100% willing to go if there was a bus.

THE DEAL: I'll be driving it. You and your bike will be passengering it. TICKETS ARE $130 ROUNDTRIP, and includes gas! We can fit 15 ppl and 15 bikes on a trailer (that I dont have, we'd acquire one).
The drive is 25 hours / 1,500 miles, one way. We can slightly adjust the dates, but I am proposing we depart LA on Sunday March 14th AM, and return to LA Tuesday March 24th PM.

So many things conspiring to make the Austin trip seem impossible for me, and yet such amazing people conspiring to make the whole thing that much more appealing...
So, I did some research the last couple days, and have done some thinking. As it turns out, there are two ways that the 15 passenger vans stop:
-brakes
-fishtail, rollover, skid
They are very dangerous and are actually on the verge of requiring a CDL per new legislation. I am going to make a grownup call here and get the 12 passenger version. No big deal, just 3 less passengers, but major advantage for safety. Me smart.
So, another person signed up and paid, and we have 3 less spots. So that means if you want in, a payment is all that can reserve a van spot. So, the revised list:

March 23 return is the earliest cheap return. The earlier the

My work booked me a flight coming in late Thursday night. I need to round up some sort of bike for Friday and Saturday. The rental places seem really expensive, but last year I was upset that I didn't have a bike.
im pretty sure we can scrounge up an extra bike for you... also just so everyone knows, please make sure to bring a lock and a really good light for your bike...the streets here are REALLY bad and not a lot of light...also we may or may not be going on some trails...(dont worry they're paved so your roadbike tires will be fine)
