your ride sounds cool. maybe if no one shows up, you and i can just get a ride in as see if we have more in common than just mountain biking. i'm free on the weekends and i've been looking for someone to assess my physical fitness and skills more thoroughly. And dont trip about the neck brace either; i prefer if you leave it on. In short, i got everything we need if we ever get stranded up in the woods, if you know what i mean, chick.

hah funny...i came on here to post the full moon MTB ride for that night!
the ride will be super fun, short 5 mile loop behind Descanso Gardens, with 2 groups for easy and advanced. both groups will go down the singletrack. more details to follow.
any of you is more than welcome to join us if you aren't pooped from the AM ride.
It seems that there were only three real men who braved the elements today: Dingo, Avi,and myself. The rest of you are gay and should sell your mtb and get a fixie.
Sounded like a blast.
The only similar things we have out here are the 4x4 trails running off the 138 that snake past Silverwood lake on up to Big Bear.
Too bad I just got off work and the trailhead's 25 miles away via narrow highways.
i had this parenting gig today, and this little person who's been brainwashed into thinking im his father, said to me "Dad, see, you have a good life, so you should be happy".
I suppose when designing lego battle ships are your life, such a positive perspective is easy. Im not a real man, im gay, have a vagina, and wear my sisters pant for not attending a ride.
SCUMBAGS!!

by the looks of the last ride,we are gonna be short of models for our upcoming calendar."the real men of S.C.U.M.B.A.G"
maybe next time it will be warrmer so you people can come out of your mothers' vaginas and ride!!
so far you have been our best last man up,borfo!
and yeah ,the next ride will be on dec. fifth.
it will be on the reseda part of the valley, i think, so people from the that side of the valley will come out.

11.22.10 - 4:36 pm
i just got a mtb. haven't really ridden on any singletracks or hardcore trails. can i tag along? lol. i'll bring knee pads, since i'll probably be the last one up the hill =(
We Could meet at the coffe bean and tea leaf on the corner of Venyura and Reseda blvd.
Ride from there and do the cab to the hub and the eagle rock loop and then back. In total 14 miles should take around 2 hours or so...We could do Parker Mesa overlook, longer with more climbing about 17 miles total.
rev106 responding to a comment by md2
11.30.10 - 9:56 pm
Most of it is fire roads with a smattering of single track, great views, you can see the ocean at parts. Parker Mesa puts you high up PCH, the cars look like hotwheels. We'll just wait for common rider to give us the go-ahead and we're set.
rev106 responding to a comment by Joe Borfo
12.1.10 - 7:17 am
rev, just lead the ride. commonrider dont give a shit. I was going to make up a route if no one did. this will be your ride rev. maybe i'll handle the next one.

12.1.10 - 9:30 am
HEY GUYS! IVE BEEN OUT OF THE LOOP LATELY.HAD TO BE GO OUT OF THE COUNTRY FOR A MINUTE BUT IM BACK.THE REVS PLAN SOUNDS GOOD TO ME .ILL BE THERE.YOU LEADING THE ONE AFTER THAT MR.MD2?
I have a medium jet 9 dual suspension 29er ready for you if you want to do the ride this weekend?
And a small RIP 9 dual suspension and a medium AIR 9 carbon frame avaiable for any other S.C.U.M.B.A.G. that needs a ride. I am also trying to get together a large RIP 9.
the level is kick ass super sexy all up in your butt fun.
if just starting the best thing is this: show up and try. Most trails we'll hit you'll be able to turn back home and find a store for some kleenex.
Im kidding... just roll and if you cant hang then try again, and again. You'll know pretty quickly if you'll make it. But we have semi-lives so we do need to finish in a timely manner.
Overall you can just ride with Borfo.
md2 responding to a comment by smelson
12.3.10 - 10:22 pm
oh im not worried about myself. a buddy of mine just got an mtb and wants to try some new stuff out. cab isn't necessarily the best trail to start riding but hey if he can make it he's doin pretty damn well. maybe i can persuade him to just ride up reseda and hook up with DM that way.
smelson responding to a comment by md2
12.3.10 - 10:31 pm
@smelson
one of the things we want to do with this scumbag thing is to try to get people out on the trail that maybe havent been before, which would be perfect for your buddy.we have a few beginners that are barely getting their trail legs so tell him to come out and try it.and in reality , its only as hard as you want to make it .its more about the comraderie and the freedom of mountain biking rather than how quickly you can go up or down the mountain.
ii think ill be riding the huffy this weekend .i hope no one will be insulted..
oh ,and it might be raining ladies!!

Fun ride, great people to hag out with, and the after party at bar and table 18(Athena Cycle's) was cool. I even made out like A SCUMBAG with a free helment and sunglasses that somebody left in man van.
Blow a load? Did I miss out? I thought I heard that last one up was to give everyone a BJ??? View at Nike base was nice too...See you all next time, maybe X-Mas?
Waited 5 + minutes at the hub then road with OCR club to Eagle Rock.
Waited 15 minutes at Eagle Rock sitting on the bench snacking,
then waited 20 + minutes at the overlook with a nap.
Seems waiting for you guys will be futile since you change your preplanned route.
Well, we added to it. We were going to do Eagle rock for sure and then see if people wanted to do Parker Mesa, it was not etched in stone. That's just the deal with group rides, they are slower so if you want to hammer you more often than not ride alone or with one other person that's on your ride level.

it was definetely a great ride with some funny people. and hey craig ,you woulda had fun man and we woulda given you a bworkout as well, but if you dont have much patience and willing to adapt to situations, SCUMBAG might not be your thing.
so SCUMBAG xmas ride?im in
mandingo responding to a comment by rev106
12.6.10 - 8:53 pm
craig, I want to echo that it was great having you meet up. It would have been cool to have you stick around and enjoy the camaraderie, in exchange for maximizing your ride. I want to personally say, it would be great to have you stick around more and suggest routes and such. We know you know the area well.
Our aim is simply to get some people out on the trails. If you can get behind that, then you can get behind the SCUMBAG rides.
I can honestly say, Borfo has the right attitude / mindset -- he doesn't give up. That's all you need to roll with us.
Part of the idea behind SCUMBAG is, dont take some stuff too serious. Relax, dont brush your teeth, and hit the trail.
peace guys... and Sanslow1, where are the pics?

I'm thinking we do the valley side of chesebro and head out towards agura, perhaps hit the corner bakery for muffins and coffee once we're back? they should be open...I know the route it's about 17 miles total. lots of climbing, you'll need a geared bike for sure I have a spare of you need it.
rev106 responding to a comment by md2
12.6.10 - 10:15 pm
man these past few weeks have been so mixed up for me, this ride sounds so great. too bad i haven't been able to make it out. more power to you guys for setting up such a great mountain group ride!
i've been riding my singlespeed mtb for years now, so i hope i'm not the only hike-a-bike out there when i do show up!
no, we had three single speeders last ride and we were out in front most of the time (because you have to be with ss) so bring it, some rides aren't doable with a ss bike, just make sure you check the ride details...
rev106 responding to a comment by marzipan
12.7.10 - 7:41 am
actually it depends on the gearing. you can always put an easier ratio, which will really only be a disservice on flats, but thats usually when others catch up anyway.
A lot of guys who ride SS ride a easy gearing which makes a ton of sense, especially if your goal is to cover a ton of terrain, and still enjoy the ride.
md2 responding to a comment by rev106
12.7.10 - 4:00 pm
This is my proposed ride for the 25th. Vanowen/Amensen Ranch around 20 miles total. Mostly double track and fire roads with some single track trails, a fair amount of climbing and one rock garden thrown in for good measure. I'd strongly recommend a bicycle with gears and we will be doing several flatish sections as well as steep climbs. EXTRA water, and some snacks....You don't want to run out. This would not be an easy ride so if you're a beginner you may want to think about this one, we won't say no but you should be able to duck out and find your way back if you can't hang.
If this is what we do we can meet at the coffee bean up the street on victory and Platt for coffee goodness. I'd like to keep the earlier ride time but if the majority needs a later start we could say, push it till 9am..any later and we may as well sell our mountain bikes and start riding fixed gear bikes... I'll try and post a map soon.
rev106 responding to a comment by Joe Borfo
12.8.10 - 9:33 am
Would anyone still be up for riding the 19th (too)? I think dingo is out for the 19th... I can possibly post a ride for the 19th, and if others want the 25th too, then cool.
Christmas is going to be a tough meet time for me. I'm up for riding that day, but I'm as close to the start point.
Once you get the details going, I'll see what I can do.
md2 responding to a comment by rev106
12.8.10 - 9:57 am
I LIKE THE FACT THAT THIS RIDE IS ACTUALLY BEING SHARED AND PUT ON BY OTHER MEMBERS INTEAD OF EVERYONE WAITING AROUND AND EXPECTING SOMEONE ELSE TO PLAN SOMETHING OUT FOR THEM.IT GOES TO SHOW THAT WE SHARE SOME OF THE SAME IDEAS OF WHAT A GOOD RIDE SHOULD BE.
ALSO ,I WANT TO LET PEOPLE KNOW THAT FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY ,S.C.U.M.B.A.G. WILL BE ATTENDING THE COASTER BRAKE CHALLENGE RACES WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE THE FIRST 4 SUNDAYS OF THE THAT MONTH.SO NO ACTUAL RIDES WILL BE POSTED.
.
REFER TO THE COASTER BRAKE CHALLENGE THREAD ON THIS FORUM FOR ALL THE DETAILS.
Possibleride for the 19th. Off the 14 at the park n ride. Loads of trails. Never been there before. It's close. I'd like to get there by 7:30 however so we can ride more.
I can provide sleepover and shuttle service via the Atomic Cycles team van. We can either meet there or carpool by meeting at my shop or other locale of your choosing.
Let me know what you think.

got some logistical issues with Sunday... not sure if i can meet so early.
If i get this figured out in the next couple of days, are any of you down to hit the Backbone trail? If not, Im thinking Verdugos, with the La Tuna single track.
I'll let you know, but I doubt i can hit the location off the 14. If you guys are doing that, then go for it.
I'll confirm soon. But who is in for this Sunday anyway?
md2 responding to a comment by rev106
12.14.10 - 6:34 pm
Backbone will be a longer, more scenic ride, and definitely one of the gems of the SM mts.
La Tuna is fun, but short. Definitely a must do for local trails.
I've been doing this stupid online course, so Im eager to get out and do decent ride, so I'm partial to Backbone. We would have to figure out a meet point. Longhairs knows how to bypass Sunset blvd if we start from Reseda. I've always taken Sunset to Mandeville Cyn.
it looks like rain might be hitting Sunday after all. why cant you guys just act less macho and just drink some hot coco while watching a movie with your lady or boy friend?
I mean, maybe I answered my own question, but the down pour is "supposed" to be significant, but then as usual, you wake up in Los Angeles and it never rains when its supposed to and you punch yourself for being such a baby about it in the first place. maybe thats just me.
md2 responding to a comment by rev106
12.16.10 - 10:50 am
Most likley, due to the wet weather the route I wanted to do will not be ridable, We can do our normal Reseda thing but take the fire road all the way to the ocean and then take sullivan back, that should be a several hour afair and in the wet, a hard slog. I'll work out all the details and we will ride.
Paul.
rev106 responding to a comment by Avi
12.21.10 - 10:25 am
Geez Paul thats not a hard slog thats a treacherous slog. The climb to get up to Sullivan alone is rough. Then climbing it up to DM is even rougher. Do you know how to get to the Canyon road or only the fire road?
Sugest going east on dirt Mullholand,
Then going down Sullivan regrouping at the bottom then climbing out.
Less chance of the slow riders getting lost.
I'll know soon, but lets try to push the start time a little later. I'm really interested in doing a long ride. If I can confirm my attendance soon, we can really map out a nice adventure.
Peace brothers.
markd responding to a comment by rev106
12.21.10 - 11:59 am
We could do an out and back on sullivan, But I'd perfer a long ride and I suppose we could start later...but how much later? Anything after 8am is hipster/loser time...so a 10 am ride would take all day. I like to start early and finish with a good chunk of my day still left if you can follow my logic.
open to suggestions and ideas.
rev106 responding to a comment by Joe Borfo
12.21.10 - 6:31 pm
alternative route ?
If the majority of the group are skilled riders the Will Rogers Trail could be fun.
The trail head is just a short ways past the Hub on the left.
Lots of downhill single track going into Will Rogers park. Then it's an easy ride
on Sunset blvd. over to the base of Sullivan.
I would like it to be 11am and I would love it if it started at 1pm. Is the earlier start time the hipster one or is that the loser time? I'm confused.
we meet at the coffee bean & tea leaf at 8 am and leave at 9 am to the trail head up reseda blvd. If you're running late then you can catch us at the trail head or even to top of reseda blvd at the dirt. we'll do sullivian, bring water and some snacks etc. See you then....lunch afterwards somewhere? or we could do a bb-q at my house.
I'm with two-wheels on the 11am start time. I have my boy Christmas eve, so I need to get him to his madre in the morn.
Plus it's our day off, in a way.
Lets do Will Rogers!! not sure if you're referring to the Sullivan fireroad or Sullivan Canyon (which is closed I believe). But I think Sullivan fireroad is going to be short ride especially starting at CAB. Maybe thats better with the rain.
Come one Paul, let's be hipsters for at least one day.
11am!! 11am!!
peace.
markd responding to a comment by rev106
12.22.10 - 11:30 am
I'm leaving my house around 7:30 am and if anyone wants to meet me at the coffee bean and tea leaf by 7:45 or so we can ride together. If you guys want to do a later ride then by all means do so..but I'm riding early.
cant make it that early man.looks like a scumbag double for cxhristmas!!!
i guess ill go for the 11 oclock start time.
heres the route im thinking for 11 oclock scumbags...
up de bell golf course in burbank, down la tuna single track,up hollister or what ever that trail is called, and down brand park.about 20 miles.
if the early scumbags wanna extend their ride by another 20 miles ,meet up anytime before 11 at the corner of olive and glenoaks in burbank.after ride party at my house after the ride. bbq if we chip in for some asada from vallarta!

ITS NICE TO BE BACK FROM NEW ZEALAND.THANKS FOR HOLDING IT DOWN GUYS!!
What's superbowl sunday? And when the hell are you going to ride a coaster brake challenge race? And by the way, I heard longhairs found your panties in his van. You better get them back before they go up for sale.

8 am sunday ,feb.6th.
meet at glenoaks and olive in burbank.
going up brand park to la tuna singletrack ,looping around to hostetter? and coming back down de bell golf course in burbank.
is that ok with you hippies?
might be a little too much for the ol coaster brake.the climb is pretty tough in my opinion plus you throw in la tuna single track and it might not be as enjoyable as it could be.l want to hear otherS opinion though.try to borrow a mtb from some one and come out dude.
and the crashing of superbowl party sounds interesting....
are the yankees in it this year again?

02.3.11 - 11:01 am
Im just adding this because Im not sure who reads this thread and if people have an interest but are "worried" or I dont know.... people think all kinds of crazy stuff on here.
Here's my brief explanation for anyone that is on the fence about riding.
So the route is going to have two sections of climbing.
First, from the meet point, we ride uphill until we're at the top of verdugo. The climb kind of sucks, but once you're at the top, you'll feel fine because it's not that long.
Then we ride on an easy downhill (fireroad) to La Tuna single track. It's a fun, scenic section, with a rocky section in the beginning. Best part of the route.
We hit the bottom and you're on La Tuna Hwy(?) and we make our way back on to the mt again. This is probably the worst part of the route.
The second section of climbing is pretty much a 4 mile fireroad back to Brand motorway. After that we descent the way we climbed in the beginning. The second climb is not as hard as the first climb.
Overall, the route isn't that bad, but it's a nice little tour of the Verdugos. It will also give you a chance to understand how to access the Verdugos for any solo riding.
You won't feel strained since we'll do the dirty work at the start. Bring some water for sure, since I think a lot of people dont realize how much fatigue and cramping is related to hydration.
peace brothers (and hopefully sisters at some point)

The Lanark st. climb off of Glenoaks is the best one going.
In the dawn of Mtn Biking this was used as part of a race that climbed
to the towers and back. Circa 1982 before the homes were built there.
next time we visit the verdugos we will make lanark the start and maybe go all the way down sunshine in glendale.that would pretty much cover the verdugos end to end.we also gotta try south beaudry(?) as that is a killer climb as well.i like those tough climbs.
see you filthy hippies on sunday morning.

02.4.11 - 7:33 pm
So either we do this Presidents Day or March 6th (or both?). This can also double as a pre-ride if you're planning on doing Reseda to the Sea with Dedicated 818, which should be a great ride.
Tour de East-ish Side of Santa Monica Mountains.
Meet: Coffee Bean Reseda Blvd / Ventura
10 or 11am
(ride to Cabellero Trail).
Ride up Cab, Down Backbone, through Rustic Cyn, Up Sullivan Fireroad, Down Sullivan Canyon, Up Westridge Fireroad, and back to Cabellero.
Approx 30ish miles of riding. Lots of climbing, and a good deal of descending. Im sure we'll be feeling it by the time we hit Westridge street climb. I may switch up the route to hit the silo, then down sullivan cyn (or up sullivan cyn), so we can refill on water -- not sure yet.
NOTE: this would be an intermediate (+) ride. Meaning there is a significant amount of climbing. However, there are some easy ways to bypass the full route, which I think should be done if you're not doing so well.
Places to split:
1) At the hub: Once you're on Backbone, you're pretty much committed to the full loop up Sullivan Fireroad = approx 20 miles of riding. If the ride to the Backbone entrance has you drained, please just turn around and enjoy the ride back down to Cabellero -- this will still make for a worthwhile beginner ride.
2) Will Rogers State Park: If you venture down Backbone, you're committing yourself to a fairly long single track (5-6 miles at the Rustic point). That means, you're either going straight down to Will rogers park and bailing, or you're going up for more climbing. How you get home from Will Rogers is up to you. Point being -- think of a ride home from her, maybe a gf / bf or wife / husband, can meet you at the park for a picnic.
3) Sullivan split: Before we hit sullivan CANYON, you can split and either meet us at the Nike Silo OR head back to Cab (i.e. home). This will bypass the additional 9 or 10 miles of riding.
Ive done all these trails on a single speed, so it's all do-able. Aim for a low gearing, since the flat sections are minimal. You'll want to have some strength / energy for all the climbing.
Also, this route is cyclo-cross bike friendly. You will hate the backbone section on thin tires, and we'll all hate Rustic canyon for a bit (deep ruts), but the rest is cross friendly fire road and a widened sullivan canyon.
Cool -- so who is in? And I'd like Paul to attend and do the full route, so maybe this makes sense for presidents day, but I cannot commit to the 21st yet.
Feedback? What do you scumbags think about the route?
I like to ride early between 6-7 am, (8 is not early) for the following reasons.
1. I have to work
2. Less meat pylons out on the trail
3. When you're done you can still have coffee
4. when you're done you can still have lunch
5. you're whole day is not shot
6. late starts are for hipsters and the chronicaly unemployed
7. you can sleep when you're dead or when there's nothing else to do
8. I'm a morning person.
for reason #1 I will have to elect to duck out to get to work on time, Sunday I was super busy, came in early, stayed late and nearly made my rent for the shop in a day so as much as I love riding I have to put the shop first. So please don't work you're rides around me, I'll do what I can when I can.
Hope to see you at the next one.

man you guys are making this damn thing too difficult.
glenoaks and olive in burbank on monday the 21st.
meet at 730 leave exactly at 8.
up de bell golf course and down the fire break into brand park.not a fun downhill if youre a pussy but n exciting one.
short three hour ride ,so you guys can go about conquering the world afterwards and get the chore of riding your bike out of the way.
Ahhh, got it, you take what others are presenting you all the time which naturally must get you thinking about those items, like poo, and then you come up with a name.
brilliant; that's easy.
And that explains "sack or crack you choose"
dude, im gonna be honest: find some new people to surround yourself with, thats a good deal of pressure with very few options.

When we bring you to enlightenment, you can either leave the thread alone or clean our bikes -- you choose.
where are dingo and rev?
Avi, maybe you can ride with this fella, no?

If it snows to 1500'. I am riding the Verdugo mountains this sunday...Most of the snow was going last monday. This will be a "Limited SnowSCUMBAG Edition Ride". Let me know if you would like to join?
we need some new people to come out!!
come out and have some fun in the sun/dirt.
its actually a really great group of people.
we bullshit a lot on here but its all in good fun.
ill be there sunday for sure and it looks like ill be doing reseda to the sea as well.
looking forward to riding with SCUMBAG
MD2 route this week,so it must be good!

I thought todays ride was pretty cool. I'd definitely ride that route again. It was nice to have the ride on Sunday again too. Lets see if we can get the next ride posted (maybe like today even if it has TBA for location) and see if we can get dingo some better tires and/or wheels that won't go flat so often.
glad grant survived his first SCUMBAG experience!
you guys decide sometime this week where the next ride will be and we will post it on the calendar.
im down for whatever.
good ride yesterday .my body is sore from that body sl;am i took.
happy birthday MD2!
Thanks mandingo, but keep in mind crash the marathon is the 3rd sunday, so I doubt I'll hit the trail too. The fourth sunday might work, but I doubt Rev is doing WP: CTM, so maybe he can organize for those not doing the marathon ride.
markd responding to a comment by mandingo
03.7.11 - 11:18 am
Check it out:
1. I did WP CTM last year and will be doing it again this year.
2. It sounds like Markd is riding it too.
3. I don't see how Rev could pass up a 4AM start time.
4. Mandingo, who cares about mandingo?
Bottom line: I'm thinking no S.C.U.M.B.A.G. ride on the 20th, like in January with CBC. All S.C.U.M.B.A.G.S. report to CTM.
We need Commonrider to start posting these rides way in advance. If we wait until we decide on something, which could be the day before, less riders will be able to find, join or prepare for the rides.

I'll be soapbox racing again soon so I'll be missing rides on the occasional Sundays, don't make ride plans just for me, Second Sundays of the month I'll be rolling down a hill in a soapbox car instead of a bike, so you pussies can get your beauty sleep and let me tell you, you need it!!

03.7.11 - 9:32 pm
I posted it in the ride calendar so show up bitches.
Meet Point:
Sunday March 20th
Starbucks
9935 Topanga Canyon Boulevard, CA
meet at 7 leave at 7:30-7:45 DO NOT BE LATE
We are going to ride up Johnson trail to rocky peak, then down Cumash trail which is awesome fun by the way. On the way back we can climb up santa susana pass and then go down the old wagon trail that is a very technical rock garden, you will be challenged!
This is an advanced mountain bike ride, not for new riders, sorry. You'll need to be in good fitness, your 6 mile jaunt on a fixed gear will not prepare you for this. I you do hit the trails 2-4 times a week then this ride will kill you. An advanced ride, not for novices, bring your a game.
What you'll need:
A good condition mountain bike with gears
at least one water bottle if not two
a tube, patches, pump etc. Don't be that guy
you, ready to have fun
See you scumbags then.

Alright, time to hammer out the S.C.U.M.B.A.G. not so advanced ride or carpool to the marathon.
Will, John time to set up an account here.
The plan is to set up a ride or carpool for those not so advanced S.C.U.M.B.A.G.S and other riders that are crashing the marathon and coming from the valley. Apparently the so green city we live in can't run their freaking rail system on a schedule that we can take to the ride so we have to find another way there.
I will have a pick-up that can take two passengers and some bikes. I already offered Will a ride so I can take one more person (not Dingo). If anyone else can help or needs a ride say so.
Also we can drive to the start or bike from the Universal Metro station or something (it's only 6½ miles from there.
50% chance of rain. We ride rain or shine, or 50% of you guys are pussies, or 100% of you guys who don't show are pussies or hipsters that want to sleep in...You can sleep when you're dead.
See you then.

03.17.11 - 10:00 am
Better yet, lets figure out a way to get from Santa Monica to the SCUMBAG advanced ride. It should be possible to do both. Maybe have one rider with a pickup leave his truck at the start, another leave his in Santa Monica to shuttle riders to the second ride then get the first truck after the second ride and marathon is over?
Thanks, now any chance of getting that team van to pick me (and any other scumbags interested) up at the end of the marathon? Or if you change your mind about riding the crash ride we can figure out a way to shuttle you and your bike from the end to the beginning so you can do both rides.

Yesterdays ride was INSANE. I can't believe I didn't catch pneumonia. Good thing all those pussies stayed home, no way they would have been able to finish that ride. I don't even know how I pulled it off after the marathon ride.

Are we riding April 3rd or not because of Rev106's swap meet? I'm thinking we can ride afterwards if anyone wants to check it out (maybe meet there) or just do our usual thing.
I think we finally got rid of Dingo, didn't see him on the last few rides.
my lefft knee is not working so well so ill be out of comission for a bit.but i might make something this weekend or i might jjust take a couple of shits and call it a day
Was just checking the pictures out on this thread, seems like you guys have a lot of fun. Wish I had the proper type of bike and the proper type of leg muscles for it.
This is an advanced ride. The total ride length is over 30 miles in the dirt. That's about equal to a 70 mile road ride.
What you will need:
1. A mountain bike that is in good working condition.
2. Spare tube, and tools.
3. I'd recommend two bottles of water and some snacks.
4. You in good fitness, this is not some party ride you don't want to be the guy that keeps holding people up do you?
Where:
Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf
6401 Platt Avenue
West Hills CA, 91367
When:
Sunday April 24th 7am
We leave at 7:30 Why so early? Because we're going to ride for about 5 hours that's why.
We will be taking the Amensen Ranch Trail towards Chesbro cyn and then we're going around it to China Flats. Exit Lindero Canyon take some streets to another trail system and that will dump us out in Calabassas where we can go to the corner bakery for coffee with free refills! So we go from the valley to thousand oaks then back to the valley.
If you get tired, you can peel off and get back to civilization easily.

Next time. It was rainy, that made the chosen trail unridable so we went and did Parker Mesa instead where we hooked up with Joe who showed up late and decided to go to the same trail head as well. Good ride, hard and fun.

What time is best for all? I lthink 8:30 am meet up, ride by 9am. will work for me. If anybody needs a ride and can make it to NoHo, there is room in my van.
SCUMBAG special assignment: Santa anna river trail Monday the 22nd. it's a 40 mile out and back, all glorious single track. We've got room for one or perhaps two more riders. This is an advanced ride. You'll need some food and at least two bottles of water. There's a fair amount of small climbs so a geared bike is best to keep you fresh for the duration. It's easy to get lost so bring a light just in case. And bring at least one tube and a patch kit. We're leaving at 7am so if anyone wants to go, let me know and I can swoop you up at my shop.

its a fairly simple up and down loop. Once you finish the climb, you're riding downhill. Beginners tend to love it for the variety and relative short distance. we want to do more than one lap to make it worth the commute, but it's very easy to bail out on the ride too. It loops where the climb starts.
approx 4 miles of continuous climbing to start, nothing intense, no way to get lost, but it can get hot. We wait at the top, then head toward el prieto single track. The reality is that we'll stop and go in El Prieto. This is a group ride. If you want to just flow with the trail and hate stopping, then don't expect that on our groups rides. We like to make sure our riders are doing ok, in true Scumbag fashion.
bring a good amount of water, no refills up there.
From what I hear Dingo's has a adult bike now too. his words "watch out"!
That sounds doable, We will meet you at the parking lot (where we parked last time) at the bottom and we roll by 8:30, so I should expect you guys around 8-8:15? Yes? Ok then, see you then.

Sorry. I shouldn't have fucked with my bike last minute. I'm still trying to find this part that fell off my seat post that holds the seat on. It fell somewhere in the garage just before I was going to take off to join you all and it prevented me from riding. Fucking sucks ass.
I'm getting a niterider light soon and like to ride trails at night. I alrady do this on my Thursday rides...
How about this Friday? We could do Reseda on the fire road and then climb up Sullivan canyon, should take about 3 hours. Start at 7 pm and we'll be done by 9:30 or 10?
Not etched in stone, feedback will determine whether or not we go. I'm open to suggestions.

I was thinking the front of the shirt should have the "hello, my name is" SCUMBAG and then the logo on the back. Or you guys can wear white t-shirts and I'll bring a sharpie and draw dicks and balls all over them, I know that's what you really want.

Shirts should be 6-10 bucks each, I can have them made any time.
Chain rings is some hipster shit. No.
We could have the word SCUMBAGS in big letters in the front like "CUTTERS" get it?
I'm rapidly losing interest. If you can't come to a conclusion or a better idea than we will hold off on the stupid shirts, let just ride and we can discuss it when we're on the trail.

Dio, you need a bike again? Any body else want to ride a Niner? There is a small AIR 9 carbon single speed available, a medium JET 9 available,2 medium AIR 9 geared bikes available, and MAYBE a large JET 9 and XL AIR 9 bike. Let me know soon so I can bring it home from work.
Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf on corner of Ventura and Reseda Blvd. 7:30 am we leave for trail at 8:00 am, be on time (this means you longhairs). Monday September 5th.
We will ride up the cab to various parts of the SM mountains. Expect 4 or 5 hours ride time, this would be an intermediate or advanced ride. Bring some snacks and water and tubes and tools bitches so you're not stuck on the trail staring at your broken bike wondering what to do about it.
While we are riding we can figure out how many ball sacs we need on our shirts and how many flying dicks and pigs and chickens will be on there too, we'll have an awesome design by rides end!
I can drive you from the meet point to the trail head and offer a place to crash the night before if you can't make it in the AM.
After ride eat out or bb-q action at Paul's place? Something else to figure out.
See you then!!

Should I bring pedals or will I be okay with spd cleats?
Many huge thanks!!

Lamest privileged do-gooder shit I've read in a while. We saw this coming when you started with your photos a while ago. Cool brah, you have access to the real mountains, brah. Gaia has a special place for you in her kingdom, when she thanks you for riding on less trampled areas of her belly, while encouraging others to do the same, so they can strangely, abuse more land. Nice crusade, jerk-on-it-mo.

I do apologize, but I will not be riding on Monday.During my Satuday ride I twecked my back. I was hoping it would feel better today, but it does not. I know a few have requested and have been offered a Niner to ride, I think can still make it to the trail head with the bikes for use to use.
that's the one I almost beamed myself on. I liked it. I wouldn't have liked it going the other direction. I guess I'm not ready for single speed 29" , BRO.
if you completed the ride, then you seem fine riding that rig. it's all about having a good ratio. spin on the flats, you'll probably coast on the downhill anyway, so make your climbing more enjoyable with an easier ratio. put a larger cog on back. You can get a bmx cog for a few bucks, add some chain, unless the EBB on your bike allows for the extra length.

nah, keep them, and maybe you'll wake up next to me soon, instead of that flat chested Dingo.
Plus single speed will force you to get stronger, whereas gears will always give you the option to ease up on a given ride. However, with gears, you can always make it more brutal than single speed, but I'm guessing your man boobs err on the side of ease, thus keep the single speed rolling, Bro-dog.

What is this guys problem? What a douche bag coward.
Anyway onto more positive things:
I propose a night ride on the 25th. We can meet somewhere like a coffee place or my shop. I think we should do a loop in Amensen ranch that is about 17-18 miles has a fair amount of climbing and a cool technical rock section. Most of the trail is double track and should be easy to navigate in the dark. Lights are important. Should take us a about 2 hours to finish. Single speeds will be ok on most of it, there is one hard, steep climb where you may have to walk.
Sound good?
What time would work best for everyone?

We're going with the flying ball sack on the front and flying eyeball rider on the back. They will be black t-shirts with white ink. Black hides grease, dirt, clown blood, and coffee stains better. White shirts hide man juice better, we're going with black.
I'm sending the order out tonight (right now actually) and I'm making stickers also.

Mountain biking, single speed but if you only have a geared bike then that's ok.
This is for intermediate and advanced riders only, beginners will be dropped and left out in the hills to be eaten by coyotes. If you are a
novice or your name is Ijunes, then stay home, this is too hard for you, park rangers have better things to do than rescue your ass...
Bring a very bright light with at least two hours of run time, make sure it's charged.
Ride time is about 2 hours, you need to keep up as you can get lost!
We will gather at key points to keep everyone together.
Based on turnout and feedback we'll make this a monthly thing. We'll see.
If you need a ride to the trail you can meet me at Atomic Cycles before 5 pm and we'll take my van. I have room for 5 riders.
If it has rained in the few days before, the trail will be unride-able and we'll move to the coffee bean at the corner of Ventura and Reseda.
Keep you posted.
Think about it, you're just another old white male championing his sense of moral superiority on this site, tell others how to ride, where to ride, etc.... especially one coming from a privileged position (how many people can really mountain bike in remote areas regularly??).
