SAFARI RIDE!!
Thread started by
Tarmonster. at 03.3.10 - 2:25 pm
We will be riding into the night, far into the distance. This will be a fun ride but it wont be 6 miles long.....get ready to feel sore for the next 2 days if you plan on coming. It will be all night long. And don't expect to go 5 mph....
If I've put some of you gatos off...meh. Survival of the fittest.
We will put miles under our belt
We will master hills
We will yell silly noises
We will be wild!
I will show you places of the city you may have not been familiar with.
Please dress in animal drag- I'm making limited spoke cards and animals get first dibs. If you want to make sure you get a spoke card; dress up!
Also. Bring lights and LOCKS!! We will be riding through shady areas...because animals don't givaafuck.
Make it happen.
Meet at McManus Park Jefferson & National (Think Jefferson & La cienega.

Wouldn't miss it for the world. Your rides (the few you've thrown) have been some of the best planned and most fun I've ever gone on. Darn, I was also planning on going as a penguin.

I don't have to be up until 6pm on Saturday so an all-nighter Friday is sounding pretty bonzer, mates.
Alright. No more coffee on Passage. This is ridiculous.

Motorcycle helmet = second worst idea I've ever had.
Palm frond costume = worst idea I've ever had.
Forgetting my SPD shoes and riding 47 miles in sneakers = priceless.
Hope I didn't do any lasting damage to my ankles riding in the wrong shoes... they're killing me today.
But awesome ride, great route, much fun!! Freeway shenanigans will remain one of my fondest memories, probably forever. Elevator was awesome, too. Sean, you missed victory donuts after the freeway! I had one for you.
Good to put some faces to some more forum names. Some for the second time (because I have to meet people a few times before I can remember). Far too few, but baby steps, baby steps...

RaRa/Rachel's face got seriously jacked on this ride. She is heading into emergency surgery in a few hours. Her health insurance will not cover the dental portion, which includes replacing every last one of her top front teeth she lost.
Please consider contributing to her reconstructive surgery at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/get-rara-smiling-again
If you don't know her personally, it is likely you know someone in the community who does. She is a bright and shining circus/aerialist/costumer/burlesque/clown star! She is handling this tragedy like a motha fuckin' boss.

Indeed it did. Apparently someone thought it would be a good idea to take the crew on the 5. Yeah - the freeway. She wasn't going fast at all when her wheel got caught in a grate (not intended for bicycles to ride over), and her face met pavement. Poor girl.

You are a real gem, Rosie - that would be great. It sounds like her, "insurance," isn't gonna insure shit beyond her initial emergency visit.
Did you see the indiegogo? We've already raised a few grand - a few bucks from a ton of lovers really adds up. She needs several thousand more for the reconstruction.
God bless America, takin' care of its kinfolk.
She could also use visitors and help around the house, once she's up for it. She lives in Lincoln Heights, if anyone lives near her and has an hour to spare here and there.
You can contact her at rachelleappelle (at) gmail (dot) com
Or, find her on the FB

Me and Tarsis went over and picked up her bike. Tarsis says she's going to work on her bike getting fixed over at the Bikerowave so once she's ready she'll have her steed back up and running better than before. She really has been such a positive force despite this horrific accident. Stay up RaRa.

Taking the freeway isn't a safe idea, I agree, still we all have the ability to make our own decisions. A lot of riders frantically shouted and cheered for the freeway while others saw the danger and stayed behind. I'm very regretful that Rachel was injured and, like anyone in our community, I want to help. It could have been anyone who chose to ride the 5 but it happened to be a very sweet person who was injured. I can't really do anything now, except encourage people to take precaution and stay out of harms way regardless of the decisions of others. I will work on her bike, help spread the word about her donation page and donate myself while still wishing i could do more. I'm sorry your friend was injured Catherine. You seem to be a strong point of positivity and support for her. That's also really kind of you Rosie, to want to use your talents and creativity to aide others. I'm glad she could be surrounded by love.
