POSTER VOTE 2
Thread started by

we had to clean off the design from the screen and now must re-burn the image. the good news is that we have the opportunity to print the remaining 350 posters for operation "DIY Safe Streets" with a different message.
The thought came up to make a spanish language version of the slogan OR to create a new english language slogan.
please weigh in.... should we:
A) create a spanish language version of the poster
B) create a new slogan in english
IF A is your choice then here is the translation I have from google:
cauciĂłn
por favor pase
con cuidado
any spanish language speakers want to weigh in on the wording?
reply
B says:
Cuidado
por favor pase con caucion
Makes more sense.

My wife says:
PrecauciĂłn
Por favor, pase con cuidado.
But I think it should say:
Peligro
Por favor, pase con cuidado.
In any case the word cauciĂłn is not correct. PrecauciĂłn is accurate.
However, Peligro seems to get your attention better.

¡Peligro!
if its in spanish it needs an upside down exclamation point at the front as well.

Doesn’t “caution” have a negative feeling to it? Like something is wrong. Caution uneven pavement, construction ahead, loose gravel. Like it’s something that needs to be fixed.

just means you need to be cautious... i think it typically is used for small areas instead of ALL CITY

......I suppose it could... We had a weeks long thread of brainstorming on here months ago and this is the consensus prevailed upon.... I think it works because it has urgency and is a universal word but if you have an alternate suggestion for wording then weigh in for this next round of 350 posters. Andres is burning the screen on Monday and We are printing on Wednesday so let's get a dialog started and get this settled.

i think people see the word "caution" so much that they forget what it means...
to a driver, caution probably just means "hey read this sign/symbol"

I haven’t read the other thread…
Since you are addressing automobile drivers with this I would tell them what I really want, directly. “change lanes when passing cyclists”. But then the sharrow image doesn’t really work. I just think most of these are going to get buffed and/or ignored. It should really stand out and get stuck in peoples head. How about “caution! Swerving drunken cyclists ahead, change lanes to pass”. Or “Dangerous bicycle gangs in area, pass cautiously”. Both with silly pictures.

yeah man check it out... The change lanes idea was thrown around but the problem is that on one lane roads it won't work.... We need something that is universal... I do think a fun message would be cool but not something about drunk bike gangs. I'm not a drunk bike gangster on doing this because I was hit by a drunk driver. Just looking for a message that will win drivers over....
I was thinking some like " hello lovers please love us back" and if people ignore these well then I guess we need other ideas on how to educate drivers....

We really should. It's our own ad campaign... We do what we want.
@Alec, at first I was bummed to see the design questioned at this late stage of the game. But I'm glad you did. I hope people weigh in with more ideas and art work. This sign was meant to be a quasi offcial looking design to be taken seriously. But I'll bet that if we did other designs and slogans that give drivers a laugh while bringing awareness to our cause then we should do it.
We can do one color black on white for 350 sheets. Andres will make more designs. Let's put some up in the thread.

I meant to say that Andres will burn more designs. Let's put up some design ideas here in the thread. These are the considerations:
a) we have black ink and approx. 350 white sheets paper.
B) size is 21x31 portrait design
c) one color black on white design
On another note. I'm not at a computer so I can't design a poster but what do you guys think of this idea for a series of posters. Ha.
We can print the sharrow and the "please pass with care" line in black.
Then we set up the screen to carry slogans like "I'm your sister." "I'm your neighbor." "I'm your lawyer." "I'm a son" etc etc. I want to make it an appeal to people's mercy through humanizing cyclists. We can set up a screen to Print 3 or 4 different slogans at once by overlapping the posters on the table. Andres, you gonna get extra credit for this.

putting "I'm your lawyer" might actually make some people WANT to hurt us.
