I haven't listened to This American Life in a While ... this is a pretty good one.
The first one is pretty funny/scary about a jack-ass comedian who posts some stupid shit on his face book page and HLS gets all NWO on him.
the second story (starts at 17 mins) and is a pretty intense story about a brooklyn cop who records tons of shady/ illegal stuff his commanders were doing and saying, and how NYPD retaliates against him .. spooky!
Fuck that! Just listened to the show. Now I'm strongly considering deleting my face book account. THANKS!
Are you also trying to make references to another web forum that I frequent?....
Actually I'm really not afraid of the police, HLS, etc.. I know most of my rights pretty well and I'm pretty certain that the things I post on the webs aren't going to be used against me.

About the second part.
Frank Serpico was the only figure that made me once consider a life in law enforcement for a split second. It was also one of my favorite cop films.
I do not have a very high opinion of the virtues of the police. It's just the way it is. The system is failed. Ultimately, I don't believe in authority. But, there are times when the public needs protection, and then there are those that harm others who need to be made responsible for their own actions. Other than that I believe we don't need such forces to control us.
There are a few good police officers who try to make a difference.
One being former BMX pro and legend Stu Thompson who is a Sheriff.
But the majority are there to power trip and frequently lie on reports and in the
courtroom. It's all about how they write the report once your in custody.
Basically your guilty untill you can prove your innocence as you must be guilty
if you where arrested. After all cops don't lie right ?
So it's ok to be paranoid when dealing with law enforcement.
The concept of "speedy education" is the other thing our country has to be worried about.
On-going cuts in school budgets have led to larger classroom sizes, decreased amounts of qualified teaching staff, and ever-shortening school years along with days.
This seems to be occurring at all levels of learning.
Meanwhile, spending is being increased and allocated for the building/maintenance of incarceration facilities and personnel to man them.
It was just some constructive criticism. Getting offended only implies you're more emotional than rational: meaning, YOU'RE more suspect to do/say something stupid and lose all credibility.

some how the TAL tv show was terrible.
Sometimes Ira Glass' schtick gets a lil much for me.
But occasionally they fucking knock it outta the park with journalism like this.
I know the Village Voice report was the primary piece of journalism, but hearing the recordings bring this story to life in a way that print never could.
you are being condescending. questioning whether english iis his first language? that is out of line. Initially it didn't seem like you were not trying to be rude but now you are.

Please learn what the word "suspect" means and use it appropriately, lest you appear stupid and/or lose credibility.

i don't know him, nor i know dedicated818. I don't have issue with him, but i do take issue in something he said in particular. i do think it is rude to ask if english is dedicated 818's first language. I can ague that many people who have have english as their first language, do not have command of it. If it is the case that he doesn't have english as his first language, then he was right, but it's something that should be discussed off the forum. his intentions of helping the guy it went a little off track.

Yes! I did and I weirded out, intrigued and happy all at once. I heard the woman that does Lisa's voice on KCRW a few weeks back talking about her volunteer work too (which was pretty awesome check it out).

I spoke to a couple of LAPD officers recently who claim that morale is so low due to recent budget cuts / overtime cuts / etc that lots of officers plan to "retaliate" by intentionally doing a crappy job, being lazy, etc.
I'm sorry, but I thought it was your job to keep law and order, not to whine like a bitch when everyone else's financial pain finally trickles down to your profession, too. Suck it up, you're police officers.
