I made a bunch of spoke cards in support of Obama...
I have been leaving bunches of them at Orange20 and will continue to spread them to bike shops around LA and the USA...
I am also selling them AT COST (1$/pr) at www.obamaspoke.com. 100% of any money made by sales goes into making the spoke cards I am giving away. If you would like one but can't make it to Orange 20 or cant afford to buy one, don't hesitate to email obamaspoke@gmail.com and I will send you a few.
The art is made by Margaret Coble, an artist who was forced out of New Orleans after Katrina and is now living in Kentucky (ArtByMags.com). She is an awesome person.
In case you were wondering about Obama's Bike Policy, this is from his website:
"As president, Barack Obama will re-evaluate the transportation funding process to ensure that smart growth considerations are taken into account. Obama will build upon his efforts in the Senate to ensure that more Metropolitan Planning Organizations create policies to incentivize greater bicycle and pedestrian usage of roads and sidewalks, and he will also re-commit federal resources to public mass transportation projects across the country. Building more livable and sustainable communities will not only reduce the amount of time individuals spent commuting, but will also have significant benefits to air quality, public health and reducing greenhouse gas emissions."
For like half a second, I read the title as "Obama's Spoke Cards," which made me wonder... if the presidential candidates were Ridazz, which spoke cards would they have?
Obama may be in good shape, but would he ride Wolfpack?
Would Clinton take her shots of Crown Royal with C.R.A.N.K. MOB?
Would Mr. War Hero McCain be courageous enough to ride a tallbike in front of the WeHo PD?
Would Ron Paul, that magical elf who just won't quit, start his own ride based on the gold standard?
You should send some to him/his campaign office!! Let him know that there is support for him from the bike community. (any publicity is good publicity) And yes, i know, not ever biker is a fan of him. But anyone who can help champion the bike movement is a good thing!
i don't believe. nor do i believe in belief. and there is no greater red flag warning for me than when someone asks me to believe. i prefer to know.
what i do know is advertising strategy and i can spot a glittering generality, especially when it perches on my nose. a catch term like "change" is hallow. meaningless. yet it is massively appealing.
question ability to change? question the meaning of change? question the direction of change?
Actually yes... he is the only candidate who explicitly is... this is a clip straight from his website:
"As president, Barack Obama will re-evaluate the transportation funding process to ensure that smart growth considerations are taken into account. Obama will build upon his efforts in the Senate to ensure that more Metropolitan Planning Organizations create policies to incentivize greater bicycle and pedestrian usage of roads and sidewalks, and he will also re-commit federal resources to public mass transportation projects across the country. Building more livable and sustainable communities will not only reduce the amount of time individuals spent commuting, but will also have significant benefits to air quality, public health and reducing greenhouse gas emissions."
I have an idea for any presidential hopefulls that read this board.
Stop wasting government resources on building and maintaining roads for automobiles. Let that become a privatized concern amongst car manufacturers and businesses in need of a paved supply chain, i.e. trucking companies and those that rely on interstate trucking.
he did in the 70s, but now hes sort of bald. people say he looks like cheech marin.
fuzzbeasts reasoning is that congress peoples children get away with everything, and if a congress persons child is riding with us then we have a ticket to get away with anything.
Brilliant Eric brilliant. I love throwing privitization in the faces of republikkkans and conservatives. Privatize the military while we're at it. Make the money interests who push for war and profit from war pay the tab not the public.
As soon as something is privatized it becomes weak. because unlike a strong government run by the people and an employer of the people, private companies are constantly bound to yield more profit. So they pay shitty wages to barely qualified people to reduce expenses. They cut staff and equipment while trying to out bid the next company. So fuck em lets make everything private including the roadways.
I know I know, if we do that where would the money come from for bike paths and bike lanes and sharrows.... captain sharrow anyone?
