What the?? Harry what the heck happened?? I just rode w/ you on Tuesday! What your back w/ those cubcampers...
Oh man was that meaty... like marinating meat. Dude I'm glad you're alright... At first I'm wondering who's this Harry guy that Richie is taping... then it spoke...
I read the notes on the video and you got hit w/ a Brandy bottle? Who was it? JJ? I know he drinks the brandy...
Skid, you want to post the ride for Thursday? I emailed you the route. It would probably be easier for you to just cut and paste the info since you already have the format from previous weeks. Thanks!
No more initiation rituals this week on Cubcamp. This is the friendlier, happy-fun-ball type of ride. The only blood spilled will come from the good ole' fashioned 'hooray for crashes' experience. (which i hope won't happen).
Shucks......I remember when cubcamp was formed....almost got named Wolf Droppings, I was psyched...but then I realized how far away the start was...I still haven't done one. Boo Eric
I still have yet to earn my CUB-Certification.
Made it to the tail-end of one, but that's about it for now.
But, then again, I'm under the assumption that once I'm back over the road, I've basically met all requirements with that alone.
I mean, it's a little-known fact, but Cubz were the first legion of MR I encountered when I was in Vegas that one weekend.
Stevo4! i never got any email from you..
MARCUSGETSEMAIL@GMAIL.COM
you can post it, though. Post it!
Post it hard and post it true.
Post it chicken and post it you.
Post it so that all can view.
Post today and make it, too!
I was too busy last night plus worried about head wound. I did however do the valley ride and pissed they moved it to Thursday-Cubcamp but I'll be back.
Btw, last weeks ride was really good. I was pleasantly surprised how my route turned out and eating chicken and waffles with friends at 11pm was great.
I've made a change to the route in order to bypass one of the dodgier stretches (on Sunset, going by the Bel Aire CC). The change in route takes us through Westwood Village and up Hilgard (instead of Veteran ) to Sunset.
I hope you Cubbiezz brought your hill climbing legs!
The CubZ Rule!!!!!!!!! For the last year I've been stuck on some court appointed classes. I almost done though I still need 4 and half months to go..

**I AM GOING TO APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE FOR NEXT WEEK.**
Do cubcampies ride out from the West side to do Wolfpack? That's something I'd be into. The only thing keeping me from doing Wolfpack is that I don't want to drive out to the downtown, or ride bike alone. Riding out there could be a good warm-up, and the ride back could be a good cool-down.
"You cant carry anything along with you, living like this. Feelings, emotional bullshit, attachments, confusion, all of that must be gotten rid of. It will all be ripped from you, and you will feel the pain."
Y E E H A W
last night hurts....ahhhhhhhhhhhh
If you missed it, feel bad and feel regretful.
However, dont be too hard on yourself, there's at least one Thursday in every week!
Cubcamp is the spirit of hard riding and experimentation, and I am really happy with how things went last night. If anyone else has some ideas, please talk to me and lets rock!
So sad I'm going to miss this. The art school I went to is having their senior show and I want to catch up with friends and instructors and see if I can get some people interested in coming to the photo show.
this is my twice weekly morning workout. a great ride! and very very doable. just a crazy little stretch (200 revolutions) going up to franklin cyn. at the start and the rest is simple uphill stuff. damn, never done this at night... very tempted.
nearly got dropped tonight. Long hard climb up coldwater cyn, half way up shaking, out of breath and heart about to explode I was reeady to give up!!!!! I fell on someone's yard, soaked, drank some juice, ate a p bar and told myself just try to make it to the topthen go home. I couldn't see the contrails of the other riders long since gone!! Struggled up the hill and around a corner what do I see???.............A beautiful orchestra of blinking lights aaaaaaaahhh!!!!
YEAH CUBCAMP!!!!
oops wrong board... it was a fun ride i have to say :) i like being sore the next day... if im not walking bow legged or limping the next day, it wasn't productive enough ;)
glad it went well. a little pissed i missed out, but i am thinking of just doing the route tomorrow anyway, during the day. i have another route that will take us by the bus location in sylmar, which would be around 65 miles total from Echo Park. anyone down for that?
Kudos to the riders that pushed through this one, it was quite a workout. Level-6 worthy. Man it was fun, I can't wait to bomb down Sepulveda again at some point in the near future.
Um, we didn't really make that many sightseeing stops. I don't remember seeing any specific body of water, just lots of lights as far as my eyes could see on either side of the hill. So I guess I'll let someone else answer that one.
I'm interested in going to CubCamp this week but it will be my first time. Since this is a week 2 ride, would I be able to hang? I'm in pretty fair physical condition and the longest I have ridden is 30 miles on my fixed gear bike (still new to it, had it for about a month).
check out these threads please. i need your support. let's do this y'all. it's only 175miles and for you wimps you can do 40 each day. there is that option. you only pay $25 to register and only have to raise $250 individually.

We do start and finish at BRW but you can bail anytime you want. It would be great if you let us know before you do so we can make sure we didn't drop someone or if someone got hurt.
And no guarantee of Pizza or Roscoe's Fried chicken on this week's ride.
nice! i'm not worried about the food..i don't need to be eating that stuff. i'll grab some bananas or something.
i want to improve on my speed and this sounds like the perfect ride.
But Pizza and chicken and waffles are full of good nutrients for keeping the body fueled. Why else would Cub camp have put on the Donut ride, the Pizza Ride and the Fried Chicken ride recently? ;-)
The masterminds at CubCentral R&D are working on a variety of interesting and progressive future projects which may(not) include what you've just mentioned.....
The pace will be a reasonable 15-17mph, as is standard for cubcamp week 2 tradition. For most people this shouldn't be a problem to maintain for the 20miles of riding, especially if you get a good draft going.
Also, just ignore Alex T. if he shows up, he's been craving to race recently... not to mention is really a jerk (somewhat like myself actually...)
Do not be afraid of CubCamp! CubCamp is your friend!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but week 1-3 is pretty much no rider left behind, right? Either way, no worries duuud, I get intimidated by certain rides, but then they end up being tons of fun.
I hate to say this, but, in the last 5 hours I managed to get sick... I have no idea how it happened but, given that I've got some traveling going on this weekend I'm going to have to bow out of leading cubcamp this week, so that I can get some sleep.
I trust that the people attending can have a good time with the route that i've built for you, just make sure to watch out for that curb on sunset!!!
If anything comes up call me and i'll give you the heads up.
yeah i hope no rida left behind.
i bought a spare tube, co2 and i have tools. hopefully i won't get a flat.
hopefully i won't drop dead in the middle of the route. i barely worked out last night but my legs are sore. i'll dose up heavily with ibuprofen before we leave.
there's always busses to take me home, though i haven't been on a LA bus in 7 years.. last time freaked me out.
i think i'm dropping out but i'm not sure. i really didn't want to but i'm so sore i can barely walk. i rode 6 miles last night and almost died since i'm out of shape- i'm not sure from riding, but from running and doing lunges. i dunno. i'll have to test it out when i get home.
Also, it turns out week two means two riders left behind. That was sort of my fault - I wore half of my racing legs. Sorry gais - we didn't realize y'all had dropped until Westwood, and we didn't see you anywhere at that point.
No no - that was definitely not a week 5 - we wouldn't be home yet if it was. Those little fast bits were week five-esque though.
When you told me what you were thinking as you superman-ed I thought "if you thought about that much while you were flying through the air, it's not gonna be a soft landing."
Man I'm horrible at remembering names... all I remember was I met Spook, Alex, Stewart (a,k,a, bluetooth guy), but I cannot remember the other 2 gentlemen's names...
Sorry we couldn't tell you that we were dropped. I had to wait for my brother in law, and by the time he caught up everyone was down the block. He wanted to keep going but I knew we would both straggle. I'll be there next week though. Hope everyone else had fun.
e-rock, I went to my own forum like you said. But I didn't think anyone could tell that I left this one. And the only way to tell you that I left this one was to come back to this one and post that I left this one on this one. Ya digg?
Why not do a Cubcamp + Bicykillers??? I mean, everyone knows cubcamp rulz. We just get drunk and turn laps around the Noho metro station all night.
What is the route for this week? I might be able to intercept if you guys are rolling south through the venice area.
Are you taking the bike path, or are you coming down main or lincoln? I am just south of venice blvd on abbot kinney (at work at the intersection of Victoria Ave & Abbot Kinney).
I'd love to intercept! I've never been on a cub camp ride, but it sounds like some fun isht! All I need to know is an intersection and ETA and I will BE THERE :)
We should roll down main street, through the circle around that time, then it's up Venice Way to Ocean, through Marina Del Rey, then Hit up the Bike Path.
Dearest Franz,
I tried to convince them to swing by for beers but it was a bit out of the way for those returning to the start. Maybe we can lobby with a few strategically placed supporters to collectively convince the route renderers to incorporate such a stop into the return for week 4; after all there was talk of riding south through LAX. For now, my purple vitamin water is treating me right; but I must acknowledge that a free franz-beer would surely have quenched my thirst even more effectively. See you at LACM tomorrow night. Bwa.
* Ridazz dropping like flies (blame Alex T.)
* Fastest Minibike
* SanD!!!
* "Quality" human specimens in Hermosa Beach
* LAX tunnel run foiled by local police (and common sense)
* Blistering headwinds
* West LA exploration (+ potholes!)
* Jericho1ne drunk with passion!
* That girl next door ~swoon~
Just remember, there's two things in this world:
* Short-term uncommitted experiences
* Mistakes
e-rock, do you know what route you are taking? I was planning to do tonight's ride, but then decided to skip it cause I don't feel like driving to the west side. But if you are heading east, I might try to ride to meet you, and then have a shorter ride that doesn't involve driving all the way to the west side.
Here's the proposed route for tonight. Although we won't be riding on wilshire like the map shows, we're gonna take 6th street instead. Also, there has been requests for a greasy food stop along the way...
perfect. I'll pick you up at 6th and Hauser (the middle of Park La Brea). If I'm not there, don't wait. I have to go pick up my asthma meds at the pharmacy and sometimes they don't have them. if so, I'm not riding.
I'm sorry to the people that got dropped/ditched, but at the same time I need to remind all cubcampers that for weeks 1,2,3 we try to keep a no drop policy, and the ride/routes are more tame. But weeks 4 and especially 5 are intentionally harder so keep this in mind before you come out because on a 4 or 5 you might get dropped (like what happened last night).
Either way I hope that everyone had fun, because I sure did!
@ e-rock, you can keep reminding me that it's week 5, 6, 7 and I don't care....I'm still going to ride even if it means getting dropped. I will find my way home.
Thank you CUBCAMP!
KABS said it - droppage season is now in full effect. Week 5 epic drop to come.
Can we have a "drop" ride? It will be a ride of 1, or if the lights work out perhaps 3 or 4. That would be pretty cool actually - the goal of the ride would be to drop everyone and win. Unfortunately, once you've dropped a group they can work together to catch you. I'm probably not able to take out Gary (yet) but I'm sure E-rock and I could do it if we worked together.
Just getting back on this thread. Were you looking for someone to Sag Wagon this Thursday night? I can probably do it. Gas has become stupid expensive but i can probably support. Lemme know.
I don't think he was referring to this Thursday. CubCamp would never allow external support of any kind. Unless it starts with the word 'pizza'.
The ride will be slightly faster and longer than a level 4. I would assume that a level 5 CubCamp is almost as fast as a Wolfpack ride with more hills.
I haven't been on wolfpack hustle and Im don't exactly know what a level 4 is. So I'm not sure what to expect. Ill come on the ride but I just dont want to slow anyone down
THIS IS A WEEK 5!!!! Week 5 is the time where the Cubs really let loose!
It's not gonna be easy! At the least you'll be riding 50 miles with (at least) one decent hill. You can expect us to average 17-19mph, getting up to 22mph (sustained) in the straightaways. If you haven't been riding much recently, or aren't a strong rider already you will have a hard time with this one. Also, given the length of this ride don't expect us to wait around for you if you're lagging back.
YO! Did you guys roll through Chinatown on Thursday on the way home? My neighbor was working on a tv show shoot late that night and he said a group of about 10 cyclists was trying to eat their catered food. Which is funny regardless of whether it was CubCamp or not.
Yes, "cubcakes indeed"...just went and bought the fixings for some red velvet ones...hope no one's vegan! Is a dozen enough? Or will the turnout/appetites be bigger than that?
I think there will be some GOGA riders coming tomorrow (myself included...) who will band together if we get dropped so you speedy types don't have to worry about us.
i wouldnt mind going on the high way i was just a little bit surprised.
Im going to try to make it out if we are going on the freeway sweet if not too bad.
No x-rated store ride, it was instead a 3-man hustle to the end of the beach path just south of Redondo. It included a chili cheese fry break in Hermosa. About 43 mile round trip. The Ocean Park Blvd hill on the way home was painful (in a good way).
We encountered what seemed like a "Gym Class Ride" in Hermosa. Lots of guys and gals on beach cruisers were sharply dressed in school uniforms, skirts, long socks, etc with nerdy glasses and headbands. I asked these jovial South Bay riders if they've heard of Crank Mob, but they may not have been sober enough to remember anything.
Thanks for coming out tonight everyone. Not the longest ride but it was a week 2 ride. I was happy with my sprint down Fiji Way. Hit 30mph .
Nice meeting SFR (i think he's RB's brother) KY, and Stuart. Thanks to Stevex3 and Tiffany for joining the ride too. I'm glad you hung out for the whole ride after you were running out of breath.
I hope Mike?, the rider with the aero bars is ok. When i realized you were not with us, we waited on Ocean Park before moving on. I also called Alex T at BikeroWave to keep an eye out for you in case you came back to the start. I hope all is ok.
thanks for pushing me! it was tough but i'm glad i made it. it was fun being the only girl, but of course i had issues. oh well. hopefully i'll get better with time.
You Rocked Tiffany. You should be proud for hanging in and Goga should be honored to have you on their rides! Thanks for keeping me in check. Its easy to forget that its a week 2 ride and we can get carried away with the speed sometime.
just wanted to say that it was nice riding with yall tonight. this is Tong, the guy with the bianchi cross bike. good thing i was able to draft behind you guys otherwise i might not have been able to keep up!
i would but i'm not in enough shape. i'm in that in-between stage and it's so frustrating- i don't even think i could do cubcamp tonight but i'm trying to find something on the westside. have fun guys.
