OK.
As I know getting a group of Ridazz going takes a while, I'ma post this now so we can get it going.
The last weekend of September is the 15 year anniversary of Critical Mass. I for one would love to go to this, and think that we should definitely have a contingent of Ridazz there to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Let's figure this out, who wants to go, how we're gonna do this and whatnot.
I was thinking it would be nice to show some love (there never seem to be that between LA and SF-bay area) to SF for everything, that I read someone write "they have done"
I was thinking of a patch with maybe that fly or a skull rida, wearing an LA baseball cap or wearing a los angeles baseball jersey, on a bike holding a b-day cake with 15 candles(of course) maybe some wrapped presents in hanging outta of the back of it's bag.
With a message that say something to the fact of Happy birthday big/older brother/sister (I don't know which ones would be more approriate) thanks for laying the path for us. or anything that would sound good.
I know you have the art skill Fuzzy. I don't know who is making the other patches, but people can pay for them to offset the cost.
I've taken the train to SF and it takes about 12 hours. and 65 bucks. plus 17 to hold the bike.
So basically you pay the same or less to carpool and get there in half the time. Your choice. I'm going up this month again. If you are interested contact me :D
I know it's my choice, that's why I'm going to choose the train. Just like I choose to ride a bike to the store even though a Hummer would be faster. Boo yah! Train, I choo-choo-choose you!
I'm looking at the possibility of driving up to San Jose and then taking the Cal Train on into SF. This train is supposedly geared more for the bicyclist.
http://www.caltrain.org/caltrain_bikes2.html
I was also thinking of camping somewhere along this route. I haven't done any searching yet for camp grounds on this train route and thought maybe someone would have an idea on what's available between San Jose and SF. My thoughts are that the hostels will be full of out of towners and camping would be a good alternative. I'm really not too excited about spending $250 round trip on a train tix either. BTW it's about 360 miles to San Jose.
Any campgrounds or hostels outside of SF and between SF and San Jose? It would be cool to get a big tribe in a campground too.
I'm down... or up for it... or yeah. I plan on going. SF is close enough, and big enough, and a lot of people know enough peeps there, that it shouldn't be that big of a deal to figure out how to get up there, and stay there. just sayin, because I was just up there. and it was a blast.
If we left LA union station on friday morning, at 10:15am, we will arrive at Oaklands Jack London Station (if there is no delays) at 9:32pm, at the cost of $66 one way. OH SHIT WE WILL MISS THE RIDE THEN
or
We can leave Thursday morning at the same time schedule for the low price of $95 one way, return is around $66 on the train leaving oakland at 8:50am and getting back to LA union station at 9:00pm ( that is, if ther is no delays)
You could do the amtrak bus, and the amtrak train part way, and bus the other part to San Francisco.
This is how that works, Take the amtrak bus out of LA union station at 1:25am and arrive in Bakerfield at 4:40am and take the train to emeryville at 4:55am arrive at 10:47am, and take another bus to San Franscisco at 10:55am arriving at 11:30am That is only $60
Return is the same price leaving SF at 6:50am and arriving LA at 6:40PM
Look on the bright side, your carbon footprint will be a little less then a car or an airplan, (but not by much) http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/Satellite?c=WSArticlePage&cid=1153323727125&pagename=WhistleStop%2FWSArticlePage%2FBlank_Template
either way sounds romantic, and the practically is off the charts.

I'm in!!!!!!! I couldn't see this being a more excellent time with anybody else, then my buddies PC, La Har, and Fuzz. Riss, I just meant you, and USER1, at least there won't be any excues, not to stop and hit up the dinning cart.
This is how that works, Take the amtrak bus out of LA union station at 1:25am and arrive in Bakerfield at 4:40am and take the train to emeryville at 4:55am arrive at 10:47am, and take another bus to San Franscisco at 10:55am arriving at 11:30am That is only $60
Who says you have to do that Emeryville shit? Just take the frackin' train to Oakland (arriving at 10:55) and jump on the BART. Bikes are allowed at that time of day.
That's what I'm going to do. Take a nap on that first redeye motorcoach to Bakersfield, then jump on the train (which has bike racks, no charge) and enjoy the early morning view of the Central Valley. And make it to San Francisco before lunchtime. And that's that.
I figure, given the choice between "try something new and different" and "sit at home and whine and naysay on the Internet," I will generally choo-choo-choose the former. San Francisco Critical Mass, Fifteenth Anniversary. Going!
PC, you have a link that details the restrictions on bringing a bicycle on their buses? My guess is that it's not any better than their restrictions on bringing it on a train. The link states ,
their policy on bikes on trains. I'm betting that by the time you add up the charges for taking the bicycle along, you're over $100 each way.
I still like the idea of taking a few cars up to San Jose, finding a campground that isn't RV friendly and riding the Caltrain the rest of the way to SF. The trip to San Jose is about 360 miles, which makes it doable with just about any mode of four wheels.
I don't really consider the train that much less of a carbon footprint since I'll be getting 35-40 mpg with two other ridazz in the car.
I say lets find a campground that we can take over with a big tribe. Use the Caltrain, which is bike friendly, to get into SF.
If you're taking a thruway bus that connects to a train that allows unboxed bikes, you can put your bike in the luggage compartment of the bus, unboxed. No problem.
For me, the irony of driving 400 miles to ride CM is just too thick, so I'm trainin' it. Nothing in particular to do with the carbon footprint; that's just a bonus. Also, I've never seen the Central Valley from the POV of a train, whereas I've seen Interstate 5 more than enough times. And I like trains, and I'm bored and depressed by freeways. Wanna join me on the train? Cool. Don't wanna? Cool. Do your own thing, and I'll see you there.
Just to clarify: there are no extra charges of any kind for bikes on the San Joaquin train, or on the thruway connector bus that connects to it. So the price (a little over a hundred, round trip) is the total price if you San Joaquin it both ways. In my case, I'm thinking about taking the Coast Starlight back down, just for the hell of it, and the way I book it (after using the V185 promotion code), it will end up costing about eight more bucks (less than the cost of a twelve-pack of beer) for bike boxing and handling. No big deal. Done and done. And fun fun fun!
so... has anyone figured out what train/motor coach/spaceship combination schedule we would be taking to get up there? If so, let's all take the same one, hell we may even be able to get a group rate.
Anyone knows what it takes to charter a bus? I heard it was $110 round trip but that was to Vegas. And booze is allowed! Woo Hoo! If we all charter a bus it may not come out to bad. Or fuck it, lets rent a hugh fricken RV!
5811 Thruway Bus - 1:25 AM Friday at Union Station, connects to the
711 San Joaquin Train - 4:55 AM at Bakersfield
...arriving at Oakland (OKJ) at 10:55 AM. Jump on the BART or the ferry to SF.
For the trip back:
716 San Joaquin Train - 1:05 PM Sunday at Oakland (OKJ), connects to the
5816 Thruway Bus - 7:05 PM at Bakersfield, arriving at Union Station at 9:50 PM.
You can book this all at once really easily on the web. Just put LAX and OKJ as your stations, and put Sept. 28, 2AM as your Departure Date and September 30, 1PM for your Return Date (I'm assuming you'll want to stay until Sunday morning, like I plan on doing...going right back the next day would be kind of weak). Those thruway buses are "tied" to the trains, so your connections are guaranteed--if the bus arrives a few minutes late, they'll hold the train and vice versa. They usually run on time, though--I checked. The San Joaquin trains have bike racks on them, I think three racks per car. The thruway buses will allow you to put your bike in the underfloor luggage bin. No extra charge.
I'll probably end up driving. I'm down with the camping. I don't know where though, there really are no campgrounds in SF. There's one near the ballpark.
I've ridden SF to LA twice and LA to SF once; self-supported, along the coast. I can't speak for the inland areas, but I've yet to find any non-RV-only campgrounds between San Francisco and Santa Cruz, let alone San Jose.
There is however, camping in the Marin Headlands--which is just a short ride over the Goga bridge (that's Golden Gate--no need to shave the balls, my bruthas). Not post-ride-pass-out close, but not too far. Still, it's dark as hell out there so it'd be tricky to get there at night.
Hawk Campground [pictured] is fuckin'-a beautiful, but pretty remote considering there's a two-mile ride up a firetrail to get there. But there are three other campgrounds in the area and Haypress sounds like it might be the most easily accessible.
Damn, now I'm starting to think about riding up the coast to go to Mass.
I've been working on this and I don't have all the info yet so don't want to post too much. I did fine this that sounds cool,
http://www.cashuttlebus.com/index.asp
The bus seats 14 people (I think he said). Anyways he said he doesn't want to take more than two bikes. I haven't talked to Gern, about driving as he has a truck and maybe able to haul the bikes. Anyone else with a truck, van or?
The camping I've been working on. Does it suprise anyone that it's much easier to fine a campground that takes RV but no tents, as opposed to taking tents and no RVs?
I'll post in a day or two what I've found on camping.
So heres the camping possibilities that I've come up with,
Presidio , Campgrounds
Sanborn County Park Campground this is a 13 mile ride from the Caltrain stop in San Jose.
Caltrain map If you're not sure what the Caltrain is, do a wiki search and read up on it.
Joseph D. Grant County Park Campground this camp site is also about 13 miles from the train station mentioned above, but looks like a hell of climb for most people.
The last one I found and looks the best for using Caltrain is Huddart Park Visit Campground Is site is about 8 miles from the Redwood station and doesn't look like any kind of serious climb.
That's about all I found. Big Bike Dan mentioned KOA campgrounds but the nearest one is in Petaluma, 34 miles out of SF and who knows what public transportation service is available there.
My first choice would be the presideo but we got to act fast. Second choice would be outside of Redwood City. Third choice is slumming it and have our bag on our bikes. Worst thing that could happen is we camp in Golden Gate Park! Who's for the the third choice?
Ahh yes, fark.com, breeding ground of internet intellectualism...
anyone else want to write an article titled "When Motorists rule the road, cyclists choke on fumes" and basically flip the whole thing about how we're stuck navigating around dangerous roads in dangerous road conditions surrounded by dangerous machines driven by crazy people all the time? when this sort of slant is reworded, it really sounds stupid...
OK it's been awhile since I last posted on going to SFCM, but I haven't stopped looking on what's out there, honest! I came across a really good site that looks real promising and one that looks like a great way to spend a few days on another trip to SF.
China Camp looks like a great place to stay at if you have a bike, sleeping bag and tent. If you don't have some of these items, look into Home made gear or rent the crap.
What I like about this site is that it's a walk in camping only, close to SF, and showers! I haven't looked into how to get out there. I assume a combo of public transport and bike. This is about the best open campground I've come across. Look it over and voice your opinion and criticism here, on the list.
The other site that would be a bitchen place to camp and do the adventure thing is at Huddart Park This is about 8 miles outside of Redwood City and has three group camping sites. Would be assume to get people from SF and take all three sites over.
I still have to see what public transportation is available out to China Camp. What the group we are putting together is doing is getting out to SF on Thursday and having Friday to see SF and do the ride. More than likely we'll be up all night and go to the campsite Saturday. Thursday night we'll just be winging it and stay where we can. Either that or setting up camp on Thursday, we haven't decided yet. That's pretty much it for now.
China Camp is by far closer. If you go to the site linked above, on the left is a map link. I'm just not sure about public transportation around there at this moment.
There's a truckstop near Oakland where I could stash away the rig.
I could ride down to the BART station and take that to one of the rally points.
But, this is all contigent on forward planning and nothing getting tweaked out of order.
Last thing I want is a false "say-so" from myself, only to end up in the middle of Bum-Fuck, South Dakota for skewered planning reasons.
I'll keep an eye on this like I do damn near everything else.
Plan on stay for Saturday night, I talked with my cousin up there, although brifely, and asked him to put on a ride for Saturday night.
He was game for it.
For those taking a car and just plan on leaving it and taking Caltrain
Free parking at http://www.caltrain.com/caltrain_parking_atherton.html
Atherton Sat Image Tamien may also have free parking if you are taking Caltrain.
The cross streets of where China Camp is is Point San Pedro Road & Biscayne Drive in San Rafael, CA
Good way to plan your trip in SF is via http://511.org/ You may also want to take a look at SFGate traveler guide
Let me know if these sites don't work.
Plan is to take our vehicle(s) to the China Camp on Thursday and setup camp. From there on Friday we'll take a group of people, their bikes and Dan's trailer to the Bart Station in Richmond. Other people will take the bus which is about 3 miles away from the camp grounds. Other still can ride to the start of CM. Look over this site they do have directions if there's a bridge closure. There's even a ferry options for the ones not scared of sharks. Take a look at the 511 site and at the bottom it gives you options.
I have a feeling the links don't work above so here most for now,
Those of you who are going to join Team Choo-Choo, get on it now. Remember that we're leaving LA at 1:25 AM Friday morning for an 11 AM arrival, so this is for good sports with a sense of adventure. No whining! This will be enforced! WITH GUNS! GUNS OF HYPERBOLE AND SARCASM, THAT IS!
I'm going to stay through Saturday until Sunday afternoon, so as to make Sexy's cousin's ride--or we can make our own.
Pfft...Critical Mass...a bunch of backward-thinking activists mounted on foot-powered pairs of Hula-Hoops. All you can do with one of these ten-speed sink traps is grow tired and sore and fall off it.
" We are a nation that worships speed and power. And for good reason. Without power we would still be part of England and everybody would be out of work. And if it weren't for speed, it would take us all months to fly to L.A., get involved in the movie business, and become rich and famous.
Bicycles are too slow and impuissant for a country like ours. They belong in Czechoslovakia..."
Oh yeah, that's a great article. Thanks, Marcus. It really made me think about the things I'm doing and I've decided to change my evil ways. So I'm ditching the bicycle...
...FOR A RED RADIO FLYER WAGON!
P.S. What exactly is so American about using the word "impuissant" anyway?
There needs to be a sticky thread for that Megabus shit. It seems that once a week or so, online or in meatspace, you hear somebody getting all excited about it, whereupon somebody regretfully informs him or her of the "NO BIKES" policy and you can hear the pathetic tinkle of a dream being dashed on the rocky shore of reality. Kkkshshshhh!
No offense but YUK to the /www.socalsvriders.org site. It looks just like every other forum site. Lifeless and sterile. Here at this site I alway have the sense that I may catch some disease here. It has that warm and homely feel to it. Kinda like a nice warm fire in the middle of the winter in a log cabin with a 12 gauge shot gun on my lap just waiting for any excuse to fire it feel to it.
P.J. O'Rourke - That dude is way funny for someone I'm sure. Me, wiki listed that he still uses a IBM Selectric typewriter to do his work on. That's all I need to know! I'll head in the opposite direction for my entertainment!
Camping at SF - Looks we're going to do the Easy Rider route and just go where the wind takes us. Best case scenario is we'll be taken in by some ladazz and get wined and dined and we'll of course have our ways with them. The worst case scenario is we'll be in some homeless shelter. Look for us camping in Golden Gate Park along with 10,000 of our closest bicycling buddies.
The campgrounds I mentioned above, China Camp is filling up fast. I suggest checking it out soon as it looks like it will be filled soon.
http://www.reserveamerica.com/ca/China_Camp_Sp/Available_Campsites/r/campsiteCalendar.do?page=calendar&agency=CA&parkId=120018
Plans currently are to park at a Caltrain station and use caltrain to get into SF. We'll be getting into SF on Thursday.
Riding the bus - There are a couple of ridazz that are taking their trucks and theirs possibly of working something out with them. I'll leave it up to them to work that out.
Remember to bring some layers as it does get chilly there.
no offense taken. I didn't mean so much the look. I just like that those sites are typically more user friendly as in being able to edit your posts and comment on photos, stuff like that. End of discussion on that. This is the SFCM thread.
Well it doesn't sound like there are any organized plans for camping so I'm going to make my own plans as far as accomodations go.
You can count me in for camping Friday & Saturday night.
What about renting a Ryder truck to carry all the bikes, and riding MegaBus to SF? Who would be interested in that? If so, would you want to return Saturday mid-day or Sunday morning?
I checked on Ryder prices - a 14' truck would only be practical if at least 20 people were going. It would be almost $1000 all together. That includes the rental fee, insurance, milage fee (.59/mile) & gas (10 MPG)
So, probably not too likely as some people may need to return Sat versus Sun, and some want to take the train.
Another possibility is a Uhaul trailer which is $9.95 per day for a 4x4x8 trailer.
JEBUS!
All this for SFCM's pinche Quiencenera!
Someone better get into a fight with the drunk Tio!
I'll have to keep it together when they play the slide show of SF growing up..
So how the heck is everyone getting up to SF?
DAMN YOU MEGA BUS!!!!
We considered a Ryder truck for Portland, and the consensus was that it was superly duperly shit-spensive and not worth it at all. Now, a couple of our Ridazz took a Greyhound bus up there, but I can't remember whether they took their bikes on the bus or had LAB-RAD take them in his truck. If it's the former, maybe they (K& K) can chime in with their experiences taking bikes on Greyhound.
Just talk to my contact in Oakland. Plan to be in Oakland Saturday night,
East Bay Mice are going to put on a dope ass event for us. Be careful, they are, hard ass hipster of the unforgiving kind. There event will be crazy, of the bikekill style. Don't worry, there will be a fun kick back ride also. See you there. Look for future info on the ride posting. I will put up the info, as soon as it comes in. They are in the planning stages of it right now. It will be fun.
Also, putting on the event will be "Fix without Dix". So don't fret girls, there will be a good female vibe to counter the testosterone. Even though, they are some bad ass hipster too. Will be fun.
You might even get a commemorative tattoo, if they up to giving them out, and you are into that kind of thing.
Critical Mass was cool this month. Saw Gern there, and watched a guys get knocked over by police twice, a girl get hit by a taxi and a few other fun thangs :D
so who is going for weekend? did everyone or some agree on camping?
anyone with a car interested in driving a carpooling?
let's get this shite organized!
alright folks!
who's going? who wants to volunteer to drive (passenger will chip in for petrol)? who wants to camp? who has friends with couches or a friendly floor?
Attendees:
1. meandmybluebike
2. fuzzbeast?
3. cubbies?
4. I AM TRAFFIC
5. kyber
6. studiodrome
Add ME to that fancy list, SHIT@!
What's the score? Are we taking the train?
Bikes in a pickup truck and the meat on the train? Sounds good to me. Someone mentioned a smaller bus line also...where's that at?
I'm checking with my friends in SF for some couch action; I'll keep y'all posted. Is anyone down to sardine a motel room?
This is up on the board already. www.megabus.com the fare is ridiculously low. $10-$15 each way. The only problem,. NO BIKES
so if someone has a truck and is transporting the bikes and people need to get up there. This is quick, affordable and efficient.

Just make absolutely certain that you check to make sure they are accepting bikes at this time.
When I took the amtrak from PDX - SEA and then back to LAX just the other week, I could not have a bike. Something about doing work on the trains that took bikes. I have no idea what the reason was, but I'd call ahead just to make sure that they will take your bike.
There's a difference in policy between the "Amtrak California" trains and the national Amtrak trains with regard to bikes.
The Coast Starlight, which I think is what Brendan took, is a national Amtrak train. Bikes have to be boxed, pedals and handlebars removed, extra charge, blah blah bippety boppity boo.
The San Joaquin is an Amtrak California train and has, like, three bike racks per car and there's no extra charge. I will call Amtrak and make absolutely sure that the bikes can be put on the connecting bus, but I've read their policy and the policy says that they can.
I'm Driving my truck w/ Big Bike Dan & our rigs. We will depart LA Thursday morning, arrive SF Area Thursday evening. We are interested in camping in the bay area. South of San Fran by Redwood City, or East Bay coming in off the 580. Thurs night, train into town, fri morning cross the Golden Gate Bridge(as a Trowbridge, I must, don't ask, just do it!) roll around town, Embarkadaro by 5pm. RIDE & AFTERPARTY, till Sat daylight, cross under the the bay to Oakland for the Sat Night Ride/party. Leave for LA Sunday Morning. Since there is a RIDE/Adventure in Oakland Sat. maybe we should train back to the truck/cars Sat afternoon, then drive to oakland before Sat Ride. Making a campground needed for Thursday Night & Saturday Night.
Lets hammer this out peeps. We have no trouble hangin' for hours after a ride, so why not make it at a campground/crash out area(Golden Gate Park, Palace of Fine Art, Presideo...
Come On!
i'm interested in carpooling and camping. i think antonio and b-rad may also be up for driving, so i will find out. that leaves about five spaces available.
How bout we camp out at the group campgrounds outside of Redwood City on Thursday night? What's nice about camping at this spot is that it's easily scalable. Friday we can easily get into SF as a large group too. I plan on parking the car at the CalTrain station and taking the train into SF. Then on Sunday take the same train to get back to the car.
I assume we'll pretty much stay up all night Friday night. Saturday we can play it by ear as far as how to spend the day. Gern, you mentioned something about going across the SF Gate bridge. How bout doing that Saturday in the day time? We can find some cool places to snooze and rest up for Saturday night. I was thinking of bringing a portable BBQ. Maybe do some cooking Saturday and/or Sunday?
(The campground is referenced above on this thread)

2. annie
3. fuzzbeast

-all passengers chip in for gas
franz:
i think we would be leaving thursday night and returning on sunday.
there are still two seats available in pretty ricky's vehicle and two in b-rad's (if he can get friday off from work).
Let's get a roll call of people who are planning not to try to camp out, and where said people are planning to stay. Just add your name to the list, yes?
1. Percival Cornelius - hostel?
2. K139 - The street. Maybe the beach. Maybe one of the WWII bunkers across the Golden Gate. Maybe a hostel. Maybe the Triton Hotel... bling! I don't know.
Apparently the Green Tortoise hostel won't check you in unless you have an out-of-state ID or foreign passport. I find that hard to believe, but by God, that's what their own website says. Why do you hate your fellow Californians, Green Tortoise people? Why? Hmm? HMM?
I think I'm going to stay at the City Center hostel on Ellis St.
Cured1,
Can't you Wrap that foldie in a Tarp like a big bike burrito? If not I'd love for one of those oversized bags in down town or something.
I'll be doing Megabus as well... but I am borrowing a bike when I get up there. I'm taking the afternoon bus on thursday up and the afternoon bus on monday back.
I'll be doing a couch tour, mostly in east bay, but I look forward to rollin' with my ridazz peeps!
There are to amazing resturants we should hit in the SFC:
"House of Nan King" and I have been dying to try Burma Super Star.
You could also go to a thrift store and find a soft sided luggage bag. A folder should fit into that no problem. I assume you got something with 16 or 20 inch wheels. 26 inch wheels could be a problem.
I'm going to arrive in SF on MegaBus at 2:30 PM at the Cal-Train Station, put my bike together, then I'll be looking for a bar to hang out in until the ride starts.
-Do any LA ridazz want to meet somewhere before the ride?
Whoops!
-Also, will anyone be on the same Megabus? The one arriving in SF at 2:30 PM before the ride? I'll bring a flask of tea and tomato sandwiches!!
hey dude above! i will be arriving with at least 5-7 others who will be leaving thursday night.
we should perhapse choose a location, exchange some emails/numbers, and meet up at that point.
we could even post it as a ride here, which, essentially, it is.
that way, people could easily check the intranetzz for the info.
Is anyone going up there on Thursday? What's the plans for Thursday? I want to see if we can get alot of ppl for Thursday night camping if we can agree on a spot.
thanks kieron. not much info, but thanks.
pretty ricky still has 1-2 seats available in his car if you folks are still looking for a ride up to sf and don't want to bus it.

when you all leaving? is there a caravan? BigSexxy and I are leaving GH at 9:30am Friday morning. It just me and BS in the front in BS's go-cart. The MT-1000, DCR1 (per neverclever), and BS's bike, all stuffed in back.
car's are full folks. if someone's cancel's, i will email the first person who emailed me about wanting to go.
you also might want to try sexy as it seems he has room in his car.
see you folks up there!
What's the plan as far as where we are rolling to on Thursday nite and spending the nite? I have the option of driving, and I have room for one possibly. My idea for Thursday is to camp outside the city and roll in on caltrain Friday.

i'd suggest contacting b-rad if you still need transportation.
we're still working on lodging.
ANYONE HAVE BIKE RACKS WE MAY USE?
TWO CARS ARE LEAVING BEFORE 10am ON THURSDAY MORNING.
if you want to leave later, we'll switch you into a different vehicle, but space may be very, very limited. B-rad is the person to contact if you cannot leave early, or email me and i will try to place you somewhere.
got bike rack to lend, it is not the best, but it works. Just re tighten the straps down, after you load the bike and boo-ya! Getting it to you, may be a different story, i'm in the deep valley, GH.
I want to do a ride across the Golden Gate and through the National Park on Sunday afternoon. Who's with me? Who's gonna be staying on Sunday for a little sight-seeing?
wOOt! SFCM! I have a bike rack, if we still need it... I have been out of the loop on all the planning mayhem, cuz I've been working extra hard so i CAN GO! So, thanks planners! Glad to have a spot =) what time is the late gorup leavin? and when do we come back to L.A.?
I didn't book my megabus ticket in time so I'm just going to drive up now. So much for that foldie I bought. I have a 2" receiver hitch bike rack that will hold 3 bikes. I'm taking the van up and can take several bikes and one passenger. Leaving Friday morning returning Sunday sometime.
I'm still interested in where those who are driving up are planning on parking in SF. I hear that the parking is a nightmare there.
mixtemotions=nicole?
if so, cool, you've got a spot.
b-rad and his friend mike are driving up the later groups but b-rad has not contacted me, nor do i have mike's info.
if you have their info, i'd suggest calling them because i'm waiting on them too.
Bernal Heights is where i usually park my car when I drive up there. My friend lives in that area and the only parking restriction is street cleaning once a week. It's not a bad ride to get from there to downtown... market or wherever!
that sunday ride looks awesome, I hope we make it back in time for it and if not we can meet you guys there,
theres a cool one way tunnel you go through and a very old light house that overlooks the golden gate, I highly recomend the light house unless your afraid of elephants, gargoyles and falling off the 100 year old wooden bridge.

Getting out of town by 12 noon is our hopes and aspirations. We have no clue as to where we'll stay Thursday night. Just like our lives, but only funner!
So what are the Ridazz plans for during the day? Before the rides? Anyone up for going to Zeitgeist during the day before CM? Zeitgeist is one of those really rare and special bars where it's best to go to BEFORE the sun goes down AND they have bike-racks IN the bar.
Maybe Zeitgeist should be the pre-CM meetup point? Like, either get there earlier and hang out and drink, or get there at five o'clock (or whenever is a good time for that) just to meet everybody and ride to the start point?

Please contact nancy@nancybotkin.com.
My (one) experience with SFCM, is it starts really close to ON TIME. I believe it started rolling around 630, but there were so many people there it took a LONG TIME for the ride to actually get going. And if you think the start of MR is slow, oh man. Prepare to just walk your bike for the first mile or so. That was just a regular SF CM.
I say we roll from Zeitgeist at 530, on the dot. I don't know who I'll be with during the day, or where I'll be waking up, but I'm thinking of getting to the bar around 3. Plenty of time to drink a couple pitchers and hang out.
I know a lot of people will be spending the first night (tonight) outside of the city.
Anyone want to meet for Breakfast or Lunch?
I like to have an "idea" of what I'm doing (they never really ever stick).
Memorize this, or Cut & Paste (if your memory sucks like mine):
BASIC ITINERARY (subject to a change, revolution & revolt).

FRIDAY (Day): (afternoon until 530) Zeitgeist for afternoon drinks, pre-party and LA meet-up. They also have FOOD, have lunch there. Leave at 5:30PM!!!
Zeitgeist

SATURDAY (Day) - I'm sure most of the day will be spent recovering from Friday Night (there is supposed to be an after party, right?) Enjoy the city, visit friends, familly, visit the arcade/museum at the wharf.
SATURDAY (Night) - (7PM until dead) the day after ride (the 15th B-day SF Critical Mass) Oakland
Start point, at the gazebo at Lake Merritt in Oakland (Lake Merritt Bart stop) when you see this = http://www.worldfromtheweb.com/Parks/Oakland/P5090038.html you are there--- and end point, Macarthur Park. Meet at 6:30pm leave at 7pm. Social ride, 12 to 15 miles long, stay close together through certain parts of the route, and ride in the middle of the street, these areas will be announced----safety in numbers, no lagging on this ride-STAY TOGETHER.
Call Sexy 323 5seven 4 - zero 3 forty-one. on Saturday, if you haven't got the exact meet location.
Meet at the Palace Of Fine Arts near the Golden Gate Bridge at 2:00pm. (Just look for the big beautiful neo-Greco-Roman dome building.) We'll head out about 2:30pm and ride across the Golden Gate Bridge into Marin County/Golden Gate Park. Then we'll ride along the coast and stop to check out old bunkers, gun turrets, beaches, lookouts, battle stations, tunnels, barracks, etc.
SUNDAY (Night) - Go home already. Don't you have a job? Northern Californians don't like folks from SoCal. Don't ask me why. I found this out on my last trip. Something about two states, and a million gallons or daggers.
I'm going to kick it in Golden Gate park before the ride with a bunch of underage ridazz from the OC. There are about 15 of us rolling up. I may stop by the bar on the way for a quick pounding.
We got two tech dorks -me and Deesimple rocking the cell phone blogs..... You know how these things go, the first 20minutes of the trip you blog a couple shout outs then you never hear from us again. LOL. These cell web browser speed are at like 900 BAUD or some shit...... (Some old school shit right there!)

We invite photographers and pedestrians to take photos of the thousands of terrorists who maskarade as environmental activists as they break the traffic laws throughout downtown San Francisco tomorrow.
If they wanted to be a part of the traffic, that would have been wonderful. But as we've been forced to tolerate for too long, that scum is allowed to tie up the streets, terrorize motorists and tourists, and generally break down any sense of sharing. They take, they have never given back in 15 years.
If they're in the streets when the light turns red for them. Take out a camera and take their pictures, or better yet - don't stop.

Since we were unable to ghost ride annie's bike across the bay bridge we have abandoned all plans to ride bikes this weekend we have discovered wii.... there will be no bike riding.... just wii and joose!!
Got back to LA at 9am..just woke up>SFCM was crazy...
Thanks to all the MRZ that were representing..we were representing.Zeigeist was kick ass cause we took it over.
Way kick ass weekend ridazz!!!!! Fuckin everything fell into place nicely. This was in spite not knowing where the hell we were going to stay when we get there! The CM ride kicked ass and the whole day/night was sweet. We ended the night, every night actually, the MR way, which was drinking till 3-4am! My head, body and wallet is aching.
SF rocks and rocks hard! Now that is what a big city is suppose to look like! People out on the streets walking, riding and meeting others. Not all in fuckin metal boxes.
Every night we rode was a memorable experience. Oakland was awesome and a great place to go riding. Big thanks to Gern and Dan for letting 4 ridazz to take over their tiny room on Saturday. Yes I owe you guys one.
The Zeitgeist bar was an awesome call. Loved the place even though the cook was an a-hole that needs a new job.
Who's up for going back and camping in the Presideo? In their official campgrounds of course!
hahahaha. what a fukn blast SF was. I really enjoyed the day after Oakland ride more (even though i only caught the later half). Was impressive to see such a solid showing of ridazz there representin LA. Cant wait for the next road trip MR style. -j
"DVDA-VHS"
everybody knows how good this ish was! i cant type in how much fun was made and summoned out of this city. Hopefully the pics and video to follow will do the talking.,..
"Can we interest you in investing in mutual fun?"
Props to Wells Fargo for...uh..
"Dance Francisico's not impressed"
Props to most sweaty transvestites, business suited dance machines, and Lisa Artist Queen of the Streets.
"Aint no party like a Communist Party cuz a Communist Party dont STOP!"
No better crowd interaction than SF. They love to love you.
"It all worked out in the long run"
I love my friends. New and old. How lucky I am that my favorite people are also my best friends! F*CK YEAH!

MIDNIGHT RIDAZZZ ANNUAL SF CMASS / LOVEFEST PILGRIMMAGE!!!!
I've been catching myself smiling all day just thinking about random moments from this weekend!! HOW MUCH FUN WAS SF?!?!?!! L.A. brought it, as usual! ;) I have lotsa pics... but I'ma scared to post on MR b/c I'll probably pick the worst ones.... you guys grab your faves and posty post OK!
Also if anyone has time, I am my colleagues and I are conducting a seminar on importance of investing in mutual funs! the returns are quite impressive!! LOOK!
Amazing trip.
It was rad to see you all.
Thanks to everybody that kept the momentum going to get so many Ridazz up there it was extra fun with all of you in the house!
1:25am - Train ride up with PC with a bonus one-hour ride through Bakersfield at 3am.
2:00pm - Ridazz converge at Zeitgeist on Valencia for beers and kielbasa. Graffiti and other antics ensue.
6:00pm - Massers meet at Pee Wee Herman plaza. There are a lot of them.
7:00pm - Ride! Bikes take over the streets. I swear I spent half an hour corking this one intersection. Taking over the broadway tunnel was awesome and loud. Attempted rush up the 101 fwy on-ramp almost gets me arrested. A lot of riding ending with a dance party in the streets.
10:30pm - CM afterparty (Annie's dream) was a surreal experience and included people in masks, accordians, goblins, an indoor swing and a free video on how to stay sexually active over the age of sixty. But I heard that the place to be was Wells Fargo.
1:30am - It's Tops rocked my world for late-night eating with peanut butter chocolate chip pancakes!
Sat
10:00am - Breakfast at St. Francis with Annie, Roadblock and our gracious host, Michael.
12:00pm - Meet some other ridazz at Flipper's and have a few beers at some drag queen bar with the original cast recording of Legally Blonde - The Musical over the stereo. Is he gay or Europpean?
2:00pm - Love Fest! Imagine a couple dozen PA systems -- each playing some different form of dance/rave/house music -- in a downtown city square filled with people. Females outnumber males 3:1 and gay males outnumber straight males 2:1 but be careful because some of those females aren't really females.
4:00pm - Lay in the grass, relax and kick back a few beers in Dolores park. This is where you realize that you are having the perfect weekend. Why aren't there any parks like this in LA?
7:00pm - A nice sushi meal in Oakland before heading to the Midnight Ridazz/East Bay Mice 2%/Fix Without Dix summit ride: The Day After. This ride was awesome and included a tour of West Oakland's industrial area plus a skull skid contest (congrats, PC!). Then a high-speed hustle up to Kay's for sexy's b-day cake-throwing party and some rambunctious chanting in the street.
12:00am - Catch the last train out of Oakland back to the city. Should we hit Stud, SF's premier gay club? Or should we check out some of the Love Fest afterparties? Nah... let's get some more peanut butter chocolate chip pancakes from It's Tops!
Sun
9:00am - Cats kept me up all night. Alergies ensue.
10:00am - Breakfast at Weird Fish. Chocolate chip banana bread rocks my world.
12:00pm - Tour of some of the murals in The Mission, including Clarion Alley.
2:00pm - Ridazz meet at the Palace Of Fine Arts for the Pretty Scenery & Heavy Artillery ride across the Golden Gate and into Marin County. The ride across the bridge was glorious. Due to time constraints, no one could join me for the ride through the National Recreation Area so I went on solo and it was beautiful. Abandoned army tunnels, bunkers, forts and gun turrets plus some of the most beautiful landscape on the California Coast.
6:30pm - Run into Nicole, B-Rad, Mike, SKIDMARCUS, spiraldemon and dak on the way back over the Golden Gate. We go meet up with Richie at the base of the Lombard St. Hill and intense climbing ensues.
8:30pm - Cheesesteaks in North Beach before making it back to Oakland to hop in the car and head to LA. Glad I don't have to spend the night in the Oakland Amtrak station.
3:30am - Arrive in LA safely thanks to Mike and B-Rad.
Thanks to everyone for a great trip and a bitchin' weekend!
If you wanna see the high rez pic you'll have to pay top dolla!!
Or perhaps you can offer up your services to Skidmarcus.... then you won't need a picture!! Weren't you supposed to be watching my camera?
Man, this was a fun weekend.
Next time, I gotta stay in SF, get to see the city...
Big props to Jared's bud (and his buddy Daniel) for putting us up all weekend.
I must say, for me, the bestest part of the weekend was the full on sprint out of the port... that shit was a blast.
I need to go back to SF, I'd never been there before ,and really didnt get to see much of the city... I wanna go for like a week sometime or something.
Thanks to:
-Allan, for the ride, the beer and the patience...
