That ending sent a damned, chill up my early-PM, spine.
Seems like Tuesday night is being transformed into another, fast night for the most of us.
Too bad I've yet to encounter any up here going my speed on Tuesday night.
So far, only a couple of commuters that I seem to plow past on the WB, Bear Valley-uphill, despite the 30-40lb pack I'm carrying.
@leetard
-Laptop, external harddrive, DVD/CD-RW(internal one's busted), work-clothes, Tools, U-lock, gym-clothes, things of that nature.
You think that's something, you should feel how heavy it gets when I got fishing gear inside it!!
Wow... this ride looks fantastic, and meeting at North Hollywood station is totally doable for me... I can even break off at mile 34 and go home... what's the catch? How fast are we talkin here? Cuz I couldn't keep up with Wolfpack for more than an hour... and slow rides with long breaks kinda piss me off during the week. So where does this fall?
Oh.. hrm... guess it doesn't matter if I'm dropped on this anyway since I'll just be in my neighborhood. I'll probably show up... even though I'm still a little tired from waking up early for the Sink ride. See? I'm rambling. We'll see. End transmission.
candienne: you won't get dropped. we're testing this out. a lot of folks just want to get stronger and i think if we ride as a tight group, we'll all improve together. yay! puppies!
no sweat... but can you repost that first route just for the heck of it. I just want to stare at that foothill route and drool. that one was a KILLER. hahah regardless see you tonight BICYKILLERZZZZ cheers
Started out great, but Mario sure ate shit. Twice. First time I saw, second time I HEARD. He was following me as we tried to catch back up to the pack and I heard a massive slam on San Fernando Rd near Broadway.
Mixtemotions and I took the Red Line out to meet up with TWBG in Burbank and saw you guys start. We wanted to catch up but we missed that first left turn before getting on Chandler.
Man, people love getting in your way on the bike path.
"Man, people love getting in your way on the bike path."
That's for sure. During the Toy Ride some drunk old dog walker took out one of the girls with a forearm to her chest and tried to take on the 2nd half of the group when we stopped. Tonight I just stayed on Chandler.
From the pics... (nice Annie) looked like a great turnout! Alright... time to get my lazy ass out to a faster ride again. One thing... avg mph? under or over 20? THanks!!
seriously condidering this ride, but i dont think i can do 30mph (shit, i might have never even done 20mph!) Is there a route so I can have a headstart and finish the same time you guys do??
Yeah Brian, you could hang out at the bar right across the from the Noho station! When you see us rollin back, just head on outside!
I'll have a spoke card waitin' for ya!
That was a fun ride doodz. We really should start taking a head count though... because I'm pretty sure we dropped close to half of what we started with. Possibly in the dark winding parking lot of doom?
My 100% became a 0% after I went running and saved a dude from drowning in the MacArthur Park lake. Yeah, I didn't feel like a bike ride after that. Eek!
While we were bicykillin', Mark was Bicy-savin' people's lives!
Really fun ride, good pace, nice "pitch black danger curves" (that actually was my last girlfriend's nick name)
Hahaha, I went on a short 4 mile run and on my way back to my pad (right next to MacArthur Park) I saw the birdy in the sky shining a light on the lake. Then I saw a head pop up above water and go back down.
I ran down to the lake and yelled out if anyone knew him. No one answered, so I started taking my shoes off. Some lady yelled, "HURRY HE IS A DROWNING!" and I jumped in.
I swam to him and tried to put my arm around his neck/under his head like I was taught but the guy was plastered and thought I was attacking him. So he pushed me underwater and held me for a few seconds. (Aside: HOLY FUCK, SCARIEST THING EVER.) I came up for air and ended up dragging him back slowly to the shore. (Is shore even the right word? It's surrounded by concrete. Hmmm.)
I was pretty pissed that no one offered to help and the paramedics/cops/firefighters that had showed up just stood there. And proceeded to tell me about all the gnarly diseases I could catch. And how they weren't going to go in to get him because, "that's sooooo gross." It was kind of disturbing to find out that they were pretty much going to let him sit out there until....I don't know? He drowned? Which probably would have happened about 30 seconds later had I not been there.
I went home and threw up in the shower. That water is gross. So was the display of inhumanity shown to me and the guy in the water. I don't have too much sympathy for the guy, especially since he was drunk out of his mind and held me under water for trying to save him. But whatever. Drowning sucks, drunk or not, and no one else would have done anything.
holy shit, mark. that's really great that you did that and it's a real bummer to hear how the cops and paramedics were just standing by watching. i'd buy you a beer for being so fucking cool, but i think i remember you aren't a drinker, so next ride you get the snack of your choice. just hit me up.
ROTY is not a high enough recognition for what you did, man.
You should be honored by the city for what you did. Those fireman should be fired for what they didn't do. This city doesn't pay that much money for those guys to stand around and do nothing.
HOLY CRAP MARK! HOLY CRAP! HOLY CRAP! (seriously.. i'll put it into words in a second... but...) HOLY CRAP!
You should get an award... or something.. WTF? So they were just riding around shining a light on the dude? Was he trying to hide from the cops or something? Did anyone get your contact info to give you your MOST AWESOME CITIZEN EVER award? what the hell! HOLY CRAP!
Also... how fucking scary is that?! Nasty mystery water & drowning drunk guy (yeah isn't it common for drowning people to freak out and try to push you under trying to get themselves up?) HOLY CRAP! I'm soooooooo soooooooo glad you're OKAY!
p.s. you're officially hands down the coolest person I know (not that you weren't before)
I called Council Member Ed Reye's office. It was 4:55pm when I called, five minutes from quiting time. The person who would look into this was on the other line, so I left her a message and told her I would call back tomorrow.
Her name is Sylvia Beltoian 213-485-0763.
You may not want to make a big deal about this. I feel that is important that you are recognized for the brave acted you did.
I also think that it is equally important that these police and firefighters be remanded for doing nothing. It is their job to save people from life threating situations. If they don't want to risk their life's in the line of duty, they should resign their post. We don't need that inaction on the part of our emergency service personnel.
Oh.. and uhh Mark, for the record, I totally take back my previous "FUCK YOU! ...and your goddamn noble excuses." remark from earlier... although it was obviously said in complete sarcasm, now knowing what actually happened, it seems TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE... like 9/11 joke inappropriate. So... yeah...
You know i <3
...cough.
OMG! DUDE. You can totally get the police or fire department or whatever to fully sponsor your AIDS LifeCycle! If they're gonna be cowards and not do their job, they can at least fork over the cash to a REAL hero. BAM!
Yooo..I had fun,the ride and night was great, the tour around the park was pieceful. Thanks to Bicykiller for hosting a local valley ride and all that came out and followed....Untill next tuesday........Long Live Bicykillers..!!!!!
Sexy, my lifeguarding buddy (city lifeguard) says that technically, they really couldn't do anything. His words:
Paramedics dont work in the field of preventive lifesaving, and neither do police (unless it is criminal). Chances are pretty good that the guy would have somehow came out OK (I know its hard to believe but I have seen it happen), or a bystander would help (like you did). Besides medics like worst case scenarios, they were probably bummed you went in to help. They have no need to go in.
Hopefully he was seen by the medics as he still (even after being rescued) has a chance of something called secondary drowning, where the water that hasn't been coughed up settles in your lungs, drowning nice and dry in your bed at home.
Still, no one even waded out to come get us. I had to drag him all the way, even through the part I could stand up and walk.
LESS ABOUT THIS AND MORE ABOUT BICYKILLERS. I hope no one is drowning next week so I can finally do this ride.
paramedics WILL NOT get in the water when saving someone who is drowning. it doesnt fall under their protocol, even if there are no lifeguards on duty.
I will be calling that city council members office tomorrow, the situation with police and fire personnel may be, but its not the city I want to live in, so I will be complaining about there inactions.
I will also be commending you on your actions.
If you can drop me an email at nowarbikeride@yahoo.com I would appreciate it. I could not figure out how to contract you through your blog
yeah, ok, not paramedics, but what about fire fighters, aren't they the ones who you always see on TV jumping into rivers to save kids and shit? Seriously I find it hard to believe that in all of those agencies we pay through our tax money, there's no-one who can jump in the water to save someone.
It sucks that none of the bystanders did anything, and mark, you are a hero.
WOW! WOW! WOW! Mark, that is scary and awesome what you did! Good to know that there are people like you out there. You deserve recognition by the city and the PD. Thanks sexy for taking care of that. I will try to call tomorrow as well. MARK YOU ARE A HERO!!!!
Now this guy is going to track you down and insist on being your slave forever because you saved his life. And at first you'll be all like, "Cool, a slave!" And you'll have him wash your bike and cook your meals and paint your house and stuff, just for the novelty of it.
But after a while, you'll realize that having a guy follow you around 24 hours a day offering to light your cigarettes and pull your chairs out for you is really annoying and lame, but you won't have the heart to tell the guy to just go away and leave you alone. So finally, in desperation, you'll turn to your wacky neighbor (who is always coming up with some harebrained and dangerous but hilarious scheme or another) for ideas. And he'll lean into your ear and go "pssspsspspssss" and you'll be all like "That's so crazy it just might work!"
So what will end up happening is that you and a couple of friends will contrive a phony situation where you're about to be run over by a car or something, and the guy will have to opportunity to pull you out of harm's way, which he will of course do. And you'll be all "Oh my God, you saved my life! I guess we're even now. No need for anybody to be anybody's slave. Well, it was nice knowing you!" And everything will go back to normal, and we'll all laugh and laugh. Yeah, that's going to suck.
May I suggest going straight on Colorado past (Verdugo) to Eagle Rock Blvd? It's one uphill by the Eagle Rock (Mall) Plaza and then ALL DOWNHILL with wide streets to the bowling alley...
Verdugo isn't that fun, neither is going left onto Eagle Rock Blvd and going uphill there to the alley... lots of bad lefts...
Yo, Bicykillers Week #4 is tomorrow... this will be the best 'kill ride so far!
Before we ride we'll be talking about some new stuff that is happening with Bicykillers and some rad events... so come with ideas.
This ride is for anyone in the valley who wants to ride fast with some dope people.
I think thats a great challenge it's just gonna come down to who reps the Cubbies, and who reps the 'killers, but ya'll should throw down at that Wolfpack Drag race, let's see who wins there too!
This week's ride is back to basics, a lil' shorter and mellower (that's a word right?). Then, we build up to the hellish rides again.
I'll have a fresh batch of spoke cards with the new Bicykillers logo, so be there!
is there a different route for this weeks ride? The interactive map shows the map from last week, at least I think its from last week. Anyway, whats the general direction for this week? depending on where you go, I may be able to join for a bit.
i am yet to try bicykillers and its right in my hood. such a fucking shame. first time i head out i bent my rim, i made it a point to go this week, but i sprained my foot. hopefully i can make it out and give the valle love with y'all soon.
seems better on thursday though for sure making two rides in the valley every week. VALLEY LUVV.
you guys should do a special CAHUENGA PASS start into the valley one of these for everyone who appreciates a good climb. hopefully it'll get more people riding UP the cahuenga pass INTO the valley as opposed to DOWN, OUT of the valley.
I say we include a street called Cabrini in Burbank in the ride. I like Cabrini. you will to. Your legs will hate you though. BTW Thursdays work for me Tues. don't.
Los
You should have plenty of time to catch the last train... if not, I'll drive you home myself!
If it's too far, check out the Cubbies, they ride outta the Bikerowave in Santa Monica.
Last nights ride Killed! Up Los Felis full force. Trannys in Hollywood. What a turn out, peps even came on mountian bikes. Can't wait til next week!
Los
I wish we could bicykill tonight instead... it's been too long since I've been on one, and I won't make it tomorrow.
Do some of you still ride in the valley on Tuesdays?
I need to ride tonight! I've got a project I'm finishing up but can ride afterwards... how about a short ride, meet at 9:30 ish...
anyone who wants to join, meet up at the noho metro station!
Cant make it tonight. Flipped over the bars yesterday. I sprained my wrist, I can't even rest it on the handlebar. I was going hella quick, like freeway fast, cause, you know, thats how I roll, and I got caught in an abrupt red light. Went for the skid stop, pulled up on my left foot in the front, down on my right foot in the back, leaned forward, and my left strap came right off. I was going so fast that I could replace my left foot on the pedal. My right foot was still attached to the cage pedaling out of control, my bike started to wobble, hit the front brake, and because I was leaning forward... I went flying right over. I stopped my face from slamming the pavement with my wrist, did a front roll, (still attached to bike by right foot pedal) and came to a stop. Then I went to some grappling training and some guy put all his weight on my left toe while it was curled, I think I broke it. Well I'll stop crying now but make sure your straps are tied and locked down tight! Los
I wanted some downtowning. I love downtown.
ok, so i've only been on one ride. i'm all about it but some of these rides aren't too descriptive. "20-40 miles" is kinda vague. i ride 15 miles to and from work everyday. anyone else hesitate when they first got started on this website? I JUST WANNA RIDE, HAVE FUN, DRINK, MEET COOL PEOPLE AND ______!
shadylane, i feel you. i just convinced my coworker to come out with us tonight. i think we're just going to have to load up on newcastles or something. but 40 miles! i just worked a 12 hour day. these people are crazy
Alright peeps...
This is a fast ride... we don't stop at bars or for booze, unless that's what your into at the time, but I doubt that's what you're gonna want to be drinkin'!
I say if there's the lot of you that aren't sure, come out, meet up and push each other... that's the only way you're gonna do it! If you get dropped, you've got people to ride back with you, no big whoop.
We do our best to keep everyone in our range, but shit happens...
Check out the map link on the ride post for tonight's route.
It's not so much a party as it is drinks at a bar with some of the not-so-overpaid editors. You guyz could totally stop by for a drink and kidnap me. (Assuming the party is at Match, and not somewhere out in eaglerock or something)
Lee, if you or anyone else is doing a valley ride tonight again I think I'd be down.
Awe man! I made a small just for you! Guess Patrick will have to wear it...
I don't have a pic of them, but they have the skull cog on the back and it says bicykillers all art-like down the left side of the shirt. White with black ink.
Bah! well... saw that message a little too late. I was rushed after work because I went to Bicycle Johns for some NEW PEDALS... for my NEW SIDI ROAD SHOES... (and yes, I had a very good experience with those guys this time.)
In conclusion, next time I'll bicyKILL ALL YALL MOTHAFUCKAAAZ... um... and by all yall mothafuckaaaz I mean nobody in particular... and... by bicyKILL i mean ride cooperatively in a group at a quick pace...
WHAT!?
Liz is coming!!! Hoorah! Is Lost over already?
I have to pick up the ol' lady at the airport tonight, I don't think I'll be back in time to make it... plus my "awesome" new bike is effed up again.
Have fun!
whaaaaaaat? But you're THE bicykiller! So who's gonna lead tonight's ride, cuz I don't know the areas on the route at all...
I am soooo ready to tackle some hills with my new SIDI shoes... ooohhhh baby...
I didn't go. buuuuuut I did see Roadblock & Annie and randy coming back from it....so yeah.
Annie, did you hear me yell Mariposa Bike Gang???
You were on 2nd and Normandie.
It was awesome! Thanks for the ride guys... helped me blow off some steam from my shitty work week. Nice pace, and that hill was a good one...
There was a little mishap with a car, but only bicycle injuries. Sorry about your bike (aaagh i'm so bad with names...) glad you're ok though.
Awe man... I'm selling m rims, if that dude needs one! Also, Liz, did you happen to see who's the sexiest gallery??? Only problem is that the bicykillers graphic is ON THE OTHER SIDE!!!
holy shit I didnt even know someon got into an accident? I was handling some drama on the phone when you guys pulled up and took off from the finish. good rride. who ever threw in the hill (I'm bad with names) was evil but a good evil.
details, peep the very first video you posted ! BICYKILL on sherman way n whitshit. dude sped off. bent rim and holed tire, a lil black n blue on the side. ready for next thursday.
i think you guys went on victory and buena vista. you guys past my work as i was stuck helping customers get their ice cream. i really wanted to go! damnit. ahha.
Yo!
Great ride last night!!! My favorite part was haulin' up Los Feliz and Cahuenga Pass!
Congrats to Andrea (Watermelon Head Girl) for her swift completion!
If you haven't 'killed yet, you should check it out.
Couldnt make it last night we shipped our bikes to savannah, but keep the ride going so i can come out when we get back in Sept. I will send u some trip updates Lee along the way, Bicykill Cross Country
OH MY!
I thought you left already and I was all sorts of sad!!! I hope you guys have the best experiences of your life bicykilling the country!
Hit me up before you leave! You gonna have the same cell?
It's probably my last bicykillers ride before ALC, because I leave for San Francisco next Friday, and I'm sure I'll be resting and doing some last minute packing next week.... so let's make it count! KILL KILL KILL!
Hmmm... don't know if i'll be able to make it out there early for foodz (i'm a slave to the man)... but there's a bunch of places to eat along Lankershim. Any suggestions, Lee?
We also might have a very special guest appearance by the sexy Meghan (aka Maulie) of ALC's Team MR! Wooot! And with Shadylane coming out these days I think the sausage party is officially over.
i figured it out, its cause i did "delete originals" when i imported them, but for some reason it only uploaded a few photos and then they where all gone ! is there anyway i can dig em out the depths of my computer ????
wait a minute... wait a minute... is this an iphoto thing? because my mac at home has been really acting up recently when i try to upload photos through iphoto. That would happen to me, and photos would just NOT exist, but then I'd try importing them through Image Capture... and they'd magically be there.
yeah, thats exactly whats going, but the thing is it deleted the originals off my camera. this has happened a few times and ive found very old photos but i can't seem to find these.. maybe theres some hope but ughh sorry guys.
You can find file retrieval freeware on the interwebz. Even though the photos were "deleted," they should still be on your memory card if you haven't overwritten them with new photos yet.
never let iphoto delete the originals off your camera. it's evil. do it yourself once you've got them safely uploaded... TO THE MOON (and of course by the moon i mean your computer)
sometimes when you download thru iPhoto the files get saved in the iPhoto library, which isn't actually a folder/directory. You can only view the pictures thru iPhoto. from there you can drag them to a directory/folder.
The iPhoto Library is still a folder (or set of folders) -- it's just hidden in a "package" in the newest version of iPhoto (which seems pretty stupid to me). To get to the photos, you need to ctrl-click on the package and choose "Show Package Contents." Inside, there will be folders called "Modified" and "Originals" which contain the actual photo files in your library.
@HANDBONE It is indeed possible that the photos were uploaded to your computer but then just didn't make it into the iPhoto DB (and thus don't show up in the iPhoto browser). You might want to take a look in the iPhoto package and see if they are there.
Thanks Lee!!! I'm heading out to Mark's place right now... and then in the morning we all set off to SF!
Hope you guys are having a great ride! (right now actually... jealous)
dudes. my bike bagy/tool/patch kit thing was also stolen, but I didnt realize until I got home. AAAHHHHHH! FUCKERS. Can we bicykill those dipshits?
and yes I do realize I am slightly retarded for leaving that stuff out. Well in case anyone else is retarded like me, watch your shit because there are evil people in the world. BAH! :(
Andrea, that sucks about your bag. I was thinking that you used to have one when I noticed your rear light was off, but I wasn't sure. Yeah, people will take whatever they can get their grubby
hands upon. Sad but true. Just don't get bitter and jaded like the rest of us.
I probably will be bitter and jaded about it once I am done being terribly sad about it. I wish I would have found out before the ride because blowing off the steam for the light was easy, but the bag is just shitay. I will never be able to do it alone. Really I need to just go bicykill right now alone, but that wont actually happen. So instead I will wait for the bitter jadedness to fall upon me.
WE GOTTA WATCH OUT FOR HANDBONE ON THE RIDES NOW HAHA, FUCK HE'S BEEN PEEING OUTA CONTROL HAHAHA...
DOPE RIDE CARLOS THAT SHIT WAS FUN, BUT YOU OWE ME A NEW TIRE FOR TAKING US TO THAT DOWNHILL LOL...
Bicykillers are awesome. I can haz more Cub Camp + Bicykillers?
HANDBONE riding on that guy's hood was classic . . . that guy just wanted to go so he started driving. HANDBONE just wanted to ride so he just chilled on the hood.
I only measure rides based on total wattage. Thus CRANK MOB is the greatest ride on a per month average basis. Bicykillers is greater than Cub Camp. Alex Thompson is the least of all 4.
Lee, I was just riding in a friend's car up the onramp to 134 and I could've sworn I saw you riding your bike down it..... Where the fuck were you coming from?
Right, yes, 101. That's what I meant. I don't know highways; I don't drive. Anyway, yeah, by the time I realized it was someone I recognized, we were already past you. And then we were confused as to where you were coming from.
Also: RIdeArc tonight went up to that same spot in Elysian Park we hit last night. (And then we tried to go up to Griffith Observatory but got booted out of the park 200 ft. below.)
Of course, I will admit that I like the route partially because we get even closer to my place than last week..... Totally going to bail around mile 32. Yup, I am LAZY. (And have to get up early on Fridays to do my Killradio show.)
As long as the horn is louder than shit and almost scares people off their bikes (and out of the way) when I blow it... I'll take it! Does it come with pre-anal raping? or is that extra?
This is Bicykiller # 14!! We have worked up to it. I remind you Bicykillers is a fast paced ride. It isn't a social ride without the beer. We are training and pushing each other to get oak trunks for legs.
We will not be going at super sonic speeds on this ride, but we will be going to the end. If you are coming, and feel you might fall behind (Handbone), I advise you talk to someone about keeping together. ACTUALLY THIS GOES FOR ALL THE RIDES! We do not always ride in the best parts of town or in well lit places. Some of us that come (Little Angry Gaint) cannot hold your own, and most ridazz feel obligated to fall back to help. This is not what most ridazz have in mind when they come on these rides.
Another thing
Anyone can come and go whenever they want. But when you come please keep in mind you become part of us. What you do will affect all the ridazz. Respect all red lights, cops, and all motorist (even parked ones...at 7elevens...===D--...).
True that suckas. Also, if you bail early, let someone know so we don't think you got dropped. I think we're all progressing very well! Come out on Thursday and don't be scerd, you'll surprise yourself when you finish... trust me!
Don't hate me please. :' ( <--(there's a tear in there) I just want to push all of us.
Drafting is awesome, it totally works, but its extremely dangerous when you have the majority of ridazz with fixed gears and no brakes. We will definitely make it part of some of our rides, but we will have to let peps know in advance to bring their road bikes, or put some brakes on their bikes if they want to join.
less booze more spandex. fo serious. i'm going to be all roadied out tomorrow night. KILL! KILL! KILL!
(actually wait... i just got my bicykillers tshirt back from meghan... so maybe jeans & cotton it is...) hmmm...
I am super excited!!!! I have a surprise that you will all witness tonight. Its big and orange and ready to kill!
and yes canadienne, cubs and killers will unite tonight, but for the second time! While you were away being really awesome in spandex for 7 days- cubs and killers magically crossed paths coincidentally. It was unfortunate that you were away. We missed you!
YAY for fun Killing tonight! I am so excited that I am nervous!
I love the cubs, but they are CRAZY! AAHhhhh! Nice job kicking my butt- it went straight into a hot epson salt bath! Today I am good, tomorrow- who knows.
It was amazing how many people finished last night. Now you can tell people, "Oh, half centurys? I do those on weekdays after work!". We KILLED it! Lets give thanks to the Cubcampers for linking up. I fosho see a visit to Santa Monica in the future! WOHOO!
Big and orange you say? Damn, Andrea! That's a siiick ass fool dog bike! I bet you let the shit the whole night!
Lotta fixies without breaks, how'd you do on the hills?
I'm back to business as usual next week, with more iller and doper routes than ever... guaranteed! Foggy Foggsworth might even be able to make it!
the BIG ORANGE pics are funny. Good job on the bike Andrea. That was a great ride last night killers.
July and his crab, I mean cramps at the bottom of cahuenga. hahahahaha sorry bro. that was too funny. but you got up the hill, thats all that matters. 50 miles..... psssh sucka pleeze.
Sounds all good and whatnot, that's the cool thing.
Now, the only question I have is, has anyone decided to brave this thing on a non-700c, equipped bike?
not all 50 miles, but I have done it on a 32lb all mtn bike...... of course I almost died trying to keep up with these guys. Thats why I boiught a road bike. lol
Just wanna give all my bicykillers a heads up on the Monday night Polo. Its new, its hip, you might break a hip, but its worth it! A handful of us tried it for the first time Sat. and loved it. Try and make it out tonight if you can its worth it. Everyones a beginner (except Mr. Tallcansfortallbikes). We still need chearleaders, try outs are going to be held at 8pm ask for David.
But seriously, yeah, there are so many rides out there that it is hard to commit to going to one EVERY week. I know I'm feeling bad that I am likely to miss the Mosey tonight.
It tis a parking structure. It might not be right where the lil swirl is on mile 15 but I know its in the area, and its fun, and we're killing it to the top!
sooo you can go ahead and laugh, but I finally put my bicykillers spoke card in my spoke and a mile later it wasnt there and I had no idea it had flown off! Boo.
hey hungry homies,
I split to go back to the 'fridge after waiting for matt s. after the galeria parking structure.
see you on that tuesday night spaceboat!
Lying in bed last night.... I couldn't stop thinking about how much fun I have with you all. Thanks for everyone's loyalty and support, you guys are great.
Oh and Liz, you'll never be the HEAD of a major corporation.
What's the haps?
What is the haps?
I'm totally stuck at work at 11pm on a friday and also totally drunk.
WE LOVE YOU LEE!!!
Bicykillers is the best ride. Srsly. It's just what I need every week.
just a lil reminder for all the bicykillers there is Bike Polo by the NO HO park. Its Mad FUn. DONT LET THE HEAT STOP U FROM COMMING. ULL HAVE MAD FUN..
srsly? man, now you need to punch me in the face at least TWICE... (you still get a punch for the observatory ride.)
So yeah, i guess now everyone understands why i'm always in a helmet... i am an idiot.
ooooh that's that same hill we did that one time... and everyone was like WHOAAA!!! and then it was YEAAAAHHHH!!! except for the fixies who were all F*%#$!!!!!!!
Yeah the fixers are going to have it tough going up and even worse down. I advise a brake. OH NO! Did I just say brake on a fixie. Let me tell you, if you dont you will probably lose like 5 bucks of life out of your back tire.
hahaha. yes on "at the bottom" ive been carelessly misspelling things lately and in an important email i wrote "infestsbdung" intsead of "understanding. " that was odd/funny
I really doubt you found that on the net. Its me Pollo, its on a ninja, and its GREEN! You guys had to actually sit down and spend the time drawing it. I love you guys too. : (
yo lee and other bicykillers we just got to new orleans finished are first 800 miles shits going good, danny got a few broken spokes, and a few beer bottles tossed at us, keep up the bicykilling we will be in the valley before you know it
Bicykill the country!!!! Congrats on your journey so far! We all talk about you guys ever week wondering how you're doing. Glad to hear from you keep in touch!
I was started to think you guys bailed on the whole expedition. Surprise! You guys were just covering 800 miles!! Enjoy every inch of road that passes under your front tire guys!
Chicharon checking in...... Yeah, I'm okay. No thanks to "Kiko Mr. I didn't see you take a shot" aka David. It was a fun drive to solvang this morning. See you BEE-C Keelerz tonight!!!!!!!!
of course... i can't tell if anyone's responded to my question, since all i can see is a giant gray box at the bottom. So if you've all been waiting talk about me behind my back now is the time.
oh! there we go... there's still a gray box over a couple of entries... but i can read the last two. so don't talk shit about me here or i'll kick your ass. that means YOU theroyalacemy... you think your sooo hawt with your radio show... and... hairless ankles...
thanks alex! it's really not all that bad... except for the sharp shooting pain in my ribs when i sneeze (as I just discovered a minute ago). as long as i can get my rear derailleur fixed up i'll be bicykillin' again by thursday.
i think i am going to make some bicykilllers bandanas at my house on the screen printer so we can run from the cops better, ha ha as you can tell runing from the cops wasn't a good choice for other riders lol, i need a design for a screen, anyone have any ideas?
SOORRRY BRO! I got home at 9:00 from helping a friend fix a flat. I grabbed the bike, shoes and all the junk we riders need, ran to the car cause it would've taken me like an hour to get there, reached back to unhook my keys..... no keys. I left them at the office. AHHHHH!!!!! I was sooo pissed. I wouldn't make it on my bike by then. I walked to 7eleven picked up a mickeys 40. : (
looks like i can't do this week's... thanks to the dude that knocked me over on the beach party ride. I'm waiting for my new derailleur hanger in the mail.
Oh, that sucks! No worries though. It happens. I still had fun. First time on that shit that I didn't basically hurt the whole time. Anyway, we'll hit it next week.
I helped the asshat fix his flat at the stop right before he wiped you out. I felt like shit after that. If I didn't help him, you would not have be knocked down.
I wonder how big a can of ass-whip I'll receive should I show up to this on my current stallion?
Eh, I handled the 'Nauts with little difficulty, perhaps it's time I see how violent you Valley-Jocks could get.
In that case, wide-tires and dirt shortcuts would cut down on the possibility of getting dropped.
Hey, the desert-fox knows a thing or two about evasion and surprise tactics.
Not to mention my MTB keeps me in tip-top condition when going head-to-head against carbon-fiber!!
@thegodofthor
Don't worry about it... you couldn't have known your good deed would lead to my being taken down. Besides, you made up for it with the use of the word "asshat".
Unfortunately I'm still waiting for my new derailleur hanger in the mail (seriously my bike being fucked pisses me off more than ANYTHING), so I can't 'kill tonight. ARGH!
Yo canadianchick! I have an extra fixed gear bike at home. I can bring it for you if you like. The pace is going to be pretty chill so it would be a good ride to try a fixie for the first time. It has a flip-flop hub so you can do that coasting thing.
Hmmm I'm kind of tempted to just show up to ride around on the fixie by myself in circles until you guys get back... just so I can get used to it. But yeah, no brakes, no kill.
Ive got a brake you can use too... I might bring my friend who's visiting from Denver... He just got his bike though (fixie) so I'm not sure if he can do it... We might break off tonight...
When I am in need of a quick mail order part I use http://www.cambriabike.com/. They ship out of Santa Barbara, So even normal shipping is like 2 days at most.
Also if you ever do order from them, if you go through this link http://www.cambriabike.com/lp_fredcast.asp there is a free shipping code.
hey los... i bought some yellow grip tape for the handle bars. still havent gotten the chain... will most likely do that tomorrow once i get back from an interview i have.
from there... im thinking i might buy some extra innertubes and some pedro's tire levers (any suggs where i can buy them as my local spot is out?)
i definitely want to degrease and clean everything on my bike... sorta like a karate kid thing, ya know? wax on... wax off. i'll hit you up tonight at bicykillers.
MY BIKE IS FIXED! I got off work super early today, went home and my new derailleur hanger was there... then i went to bicycle johns and got it all fixed up! I will ride tonight!
Interesting side note: The guy who worked on my bike noticed that whoever "fixed" my wheel last, put the spokes on WRONG. So thanks, Orange 20 for NOTHING. I payed $25 for them to replace a spoke and apparently they did it wrong so the whole wheel was fucked. Bicycle Johns fixed it for free though... and i'm impressed that they checked out my bike so thoroughly to begin with, since all I really asked was for them to replace the derailleur hanger.
That's because they have excellent night and day vision! Props for shops that go above and beyond!
I'm not going to be there tonight (friends arriving in town late)
Carlos is not attending...
Someone who IS going, PLEASE take a look at the route and keep the family together tonight.
craaaap... i spoke too soon. i dunno if i'm coming tonight... maybe not, because san diego drew is going to be a bit late, so i might just go hang out with him and some others elsewhere. (boooo hissss... i know)
We spotted one tranny on the way back to noho station. Kinda deviated from the route a little bit, but it was was still a good ride. Hope everyone has a good safe weekend..... maybe see you at friday night delight???
Good right last night, even tho a bunch of the new faces droped.Hopefully that youngster is alright he had a wreck coming down on the cahuenga pass.Overall it was a good BIcykillng time then hooking up with thirsty thursdays in echo park was cool. But how do you do a fast paced bar hop ride?My ass would be so drunk and slow by the end of that ride.Oh yeah mission accomplished we saw a couple of trannys.
Good to hear the ride was great. My friends invited me to go inner-tubing down Kern river. They called me at 4pm and left at 6pm! I almost died Yeeaaaay! I got back last night at 330pm sunday, took a hour bath, and left for Bicychillers. Me and three others showed up. We biked to Rite Aid got some ice cream and rolled back. Bike Poloing tonight, see you there!
So who's showing up this weekend? I am fo sho! So canadianchick you got her bike fixed! Yeaay! My offer still stands If you want to try out a real fixed bike.
Damn you seriously miss us by only a few minutes. We say we meet up at 9pm and leave at 9:15 but we really leave at 9:20-25. Last night was more of a 3 weeks pace, sorry. It was pretty brutal. Hurray for all the new people. But sorry for all the crap that happened last night, from shifters falling apart, headsets rattling, flats, cell phones falling out of pockets, people getting lost, and this one guy who find out his new bike didn't come with rim tape which caused the second flat of the night We had to use medical tape for rim tape! NIIICE.
Yeah, though I obviously have no idea what the pace was like after I left last night, it seems like the difference between one week and another these days is more distance than speed. We pretty much go fairly fast every week now.
Yeah that shit was cool last night. I liked the 2 out of 4 pace we had....j/k.Wonderwhat the 4 outa 4 pace is gonna be like.Yo KIKO,TOOSHORT,SKIDROW WAL-E,CHOMPIRAS and MASORCA you guys are missing out. WHERE YOU AT??????????????
wow, I only thought there were a few flat tires. Bad bike luck. Well if that was really more like a 3 then I will be out for the 3 ride then. I think I kept up just fine .
To:Acadamy Your right, it seems we are going at the regular lightspeed pace every week. I should control it better. I do believe a lot of the new people who showed up had a slower pace in mind. We'll try it again at the beginning of next month, but until then lets KILLL!!!!.
I see virtue in having the pace ramp up through a week system, but I could also see the virtue of just having it always be a fast ride (with perhaps an increasing amount of distance/climbing rather than pace).
Either way, it should just be clearly stated both in the ride posting on here and at the beginning of the ride itself, so people know what to expect ahead of time and know how they should ride once there.
Route slips also helpful. We don't even need to follow the route 100%, but just so people who get separated can find their way to the next stop.
P.S. I think I've got my all fixed, so I should be more than ready to Kill by next week. (Pretty sure it was just that my front wheel was on too tight, so the fork was unhappy.)
oooh that's right the club called rhonda is poppin off that night. some of yall might wanna bring some dancing shoes. i suggest we take a route that takes us near it and if you wanna stay you stay... the rest can continue if that's their perogative.
Sounds like a fun plan... we should leave early though... and by early, i mean 9:15 for realz. No more of this waiting around over half an hour for the pokey ones to make an appearance.
fuck! i still need to true my wheel. it'd be dope to go to the BFF party. i know exactly where that club is at. it's on hollywood, right next to the Barnsdall Art Park, by vermont. i would say the easiest and quickest way down there would be through the cahuenga pass, then make a left on hollywood.
In that case, I'm sorry to say I might go to the races in DTLA and then ride with themsall over to the danzz party. Shit, what is this, three Bicykillers missed in a row? I'm totally lame.
oooOOOooohhh... looks fun! Count me in this week!!! It's been way too long since I've made it to one of deez.
(unless of course I get screwed over at work...)
I am moving at the end of the month so I figure I have to get my car moving again, at least to move it to the new house. I am going straight home after work @5 to put my timing belt back on. If every thing goes smooth I should be able to fix the car, eat and get a quick Xbox 360 round of Battlefield Bad Company in before the ride.
If I am not on the ride I am still working on the gas guzzler.
If I make it the HAMMER will be down. I don't car what the "pace" week is. This is Bicykillers not chillers. I have never heard of Wolfpack talking about a "slow" pace. SO NEITHER SHOULD WE!!!!!!!!
this is such a great ride tonight... but there's so much going on. the races in downtown... then from there i hear they're going to be heading over to A CLUB CALLED RHONDA and dance and be merry all night.
you can come down by my pad and we can ride down rikk.
i'm leavin at 8:30 from here... maybe a little bit later. let me know. i'm on saticoy in between laurel canyon and lankershim (next to the mormon church)
Shit was nice... and I love the pace... never changes from week to week. I wonder if we can go faster than lightspeed next week... after all, it is the 4th week.
I just checked how many miles i did from riding from my house to and from bicykillers plus the ride last nite. 55 miles, no wonder im feeling tired. Gotta love them Bicykillers!!!
last week was intense. i can't imagine what speed we'd be going this week or if it's even possible to go any faster. to make it harder we should ban the use of water.
Route's posted thanks Carlos. I am more pissed than a soccer mom in a minivan right now... I've got another god damned shoot all the way out in Northridge! Fuck.
Anybody want to hire me so I can quit this place!!!! I'll keep someone updated about when I'll be getting out, if I can make it out in time, I'm there!!!
not making it out. I am tending other stuff in my life. I have some competitions comming up in my other hobby so training for them. I dont know when I will be seeing you guys again. Maybe some saturday social ride. Please ride safe out there guys.
Liz cut out early, as did I, but they're probably finished by now. It was a really small group, a really flat route, and people were all grumpy about stopping for too long. So: fast.
it was a pretty small fast group, so we covered ground quick and then people broke off around la. Sorry for freaking people out with the wheel rub halfway through.
Too bad nobody actually brought the route with them to the ride. We more or less still followed it, though I guess we did the start and end backwards (down Magnolia at the start and up Riverside at the end).
I just got home, it was definately both fun and awesome. Definately the easiest Bicykillers I've been on so far, but in those hills at Griffith Park... I was quite worried I'd end up wandering the city alone until I found my way home. Oh, and how awesome was picking up like 10 strangers?
my friend and i broke off early, but riding through gp at night was killer. too bad some coffins still managed to be out there even though the roads were blocked off! still a good time. thanks!
Yo everyone this is bicykiller Danny, me and Pat are still at our cross country bid, we just crossed the continental divide, follow us at www.myspace.com/trackpatanddanny
yeah lee, i'm okay... I just can't do any long rides for a while. (and by long, i mean more than a few miles here and there...) but who knows, maybe it'll only be a week or two.
We're gonna hit up Balboa Lake... do some laps around that with our lights off. Hopefully the sprinklers will be on too so as to cool us down a bit!
Gonna plan out teams for the Wolfpack all city race too, so don't be scer'd.
Not to worry man, next week has got all the Hollywood/Cahuenga Pass/South action you could ever desire!
1's and 2's are more for getting acquainted, 3's and 4's are for (something witty I can't think of right now)
I'm makin' a comeback, soon enough. I miss the shit out of you guys. Seriously was my family ride for a minute.
I just finished my 10 hour a day for three weeks schedule, and it will be much more (ex)laxed for me to HMWRZX and then bicykill with you !
¡ Soy Listo !
Leecykiller, i'm also gunna give you a buzz about an idea you had when you where in high spirits a while back. I think we should persue it. You may know what i'm taking about.
On another note. I've gotten fat and slow. Tease my ass, make me feel like a bitch so i show up !
lets make it a little more fun: instead of turning right onto Devonshire from Tampa, we should go all the way up Tampa, turn right on Sesnon, the another right on Reseda and finish the route. It's a great hill to make week 4 more interesting and babies can always skip the hill
daaamn... I just got home after being dropped....half a mile into the ride. I got stuck behind the light turning onto Victory and that was it for me. Well, next week I'll be able to keep up for sure, and maybe I'll have my road bike up and running on the next super-fast ride.
Well, it seems that our fearless leaders are abandoning us to practice for the Wolfpack races. Since this ride is my new bike's debut, I couldn't just watch it not happen so... I planned a route. I've never done this before, but I thought it would be nice to ride around some quieter neighborhood streets, and hit up the Sepulveda Dam. I'm going to try and scout the route in a few hours to make sure it's feasible. Any questions/comments/complaints/suggestions?
NEW BIKE NIGHT NEW BIKE NIGHT!!!! You know that that means!?!
(Details tonight!)
Bicykillers is continuing as usual, no changes. Way to step it up Sara and post a route! See everyone tonight... I can't wait!
man im such a fuckass.. i was gunna go today but as you all know i had my bike jacked again.. no worries though, i had just ordered a trackbike before it happened. talked to the guy.. its coming next week. not a party bike.. killin bike. lee, i know you're a busy busy man. i wanna be home by 1ish with a sleepin pill in my system.
i'm responsible now. it's weird.
NEW BIKE NEW BIKE NEW BIKE!!!!!!!!!
I am so ridiculously excited. Bike has been home for one hour, and all my non-biking friends are already annoyed. See ya'll tomorrow!
Thanks for not spelling it "guise" or "gaise"! What's with that!? I hate it...
Yeah, good ride, really nice route. Average speed for tonight's week 2 was 18.
Glad to see Ilya back rollin after his crash at the All City Race... even though he was on his wife's bike.
Sarah, I officially am naming your bike Trapper Keeper... and I"m guessing you probably don't even know what those are cuz your too young! Hahah! But it fits.
Thanks to everyone who criticized helped adjust my bike... I think I'm now going to need to start working out or something, because I can't get tires past 100 p.s.i. even with a floor pump. :(
It was good seeing you guys- I won't be so late for next week's ride.
URL for this route is: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2248486
@danya
you may need to invest in a better pump. many handheld pumps dont go past 100 or 110 psi. me riding at 158 i need 130 on my tires, even though they are marked for 120.
tire pressure is keyyyyy to not getting pinch flats.
i dont know what its like to pop a flat on a fixie, but im sure its much worse than a road bike since you cant coast....
invest in good tires... this is week 3 route, should be a good one down to silverlake.
oh nooo... I am pre-emptively whining about the painfulness of this route... I am very afraid of those hills. Should be great!
I actually just got a new floor pump, so I should be able to pump my tires by myself now.
He approached and knelt down beside his friend.
"Relax Rex... they're gone now," he said placing a comforting hand upon his shoulder.
And from the inky shadows of obscurity, she watched the whole thing unfold and found enough energy to whisper... "Bicykillers."
I figured someone might want to know my route i am going to ride tonight. I rode it on bicykillers a few weeks ago and it seems to almost be to much. I was having a hard time making google maps cut all corners so the mileage is a bit off, sorry.
That was really fun doods! Thanks! (but man am I out of shape)!
Definitely the fastest I've ridden in over 2 months... on the L.A. River bike path I had us at 24-25 mph. Whew!
Thanks for everybody who came out to Kill and a big thank you for waiting for me at the start. Nice see some new and old faces in the pack. We had a big group in the start, cool route and had a WP pace going on. Can't wait to see what next weeks Bicykillers will be like. LongLiveBicykillers
yeah, I got home eventually. I got lost, called you, you didn't answer so I just kept riding and I eventually got to the Kitchen and chilled with people there til the last train home. All in all, a fun night.
As many of you know, Liz is Canadian and was fearing deportation. But she just learned that she can stay in the good ol' US of A one more year!
So, to celebrate.. we're gonna head north and treat Foothill Rd. as if it were the Canada/USA boarder. There we will taunt the guards and wave our bums at them... bring your cameras.
Also some good, untouched territory on this route.
Thanks Junu and see ya'll there.
Going to miss 'Killazz again! Crap. Reasons: 1) dinner plans with friend I haven't seen in ages; 2) looks like I might have a legit job again, starting tomorrow.
oopsies.... i just realize now that I was logged in as RBI before.
So yeah, I'm totally down for a 20-something mile ride tonight because I'm pretty damn tired, and shouldn't really be riding too late. But I'm STOKED! TO THE MOOOOOON... er... um... TO THE CANADIA!
God Damnit! had to work late today getting ready for interbike. Hate to miss week 4... Gonna be gone next thursday too, I demand a week 4+2 megaride on the 2nd
Hey that was FUN! Those hills were knocking the wind out of me... but that's exactly what I need to get back into shape.
AND 30% of the riders that came out were Canadian! What better way to celebrate being able to stay in the U.S. another year than to hang out with people who appreciate its inferiority...
