Hey RBI, how was the Westlake race? Report some details! I saw it posted and was intrigued...
Were there a lot of racers? Was the competition stiff? Fun? What time did the races get underway? I was thinking of trying to get ahold of the organizer and see if he's open to pushing the time back, because it would be damn near impossible to make it out there by 7:30 on a Thursday for a lot of the LA heads, with traffic and all.
And what did you win?
City Hobgoblin05.4.07 - 1:31 pm
reply
the organizer and i were the only ones that showed up, which was a bummer but it was still fun. lots of people usually show up.
i won a king of swords tarot card. ill be back next month to defend my title.

can someone post a google map showing where the 6th st.bridge is?
or atleast the cross street or something.. thanks

I'm sure someone can explain it better than I can, but the last main intersection before the beginning of the bridge is E 6th and alameda. At that point it'll be in your view...just keep heading east.

Hey RBI, that's pretty fucking funny! So basically you just showed up and beat this one dude at his own race. Nice! So since you ride a road bike, he probably won the fixed gear division?
6th street bridge: if you can get to Downtown LA, find 6th street (not hard -- they're numbered and it's basically a grid) and head east for a mile or so.
In the downtown area, 6th happens to be a one-way street headed east, so it's pretty easy. If you're coming on the 110 fwy, I think there's even a 6th street exit.

I can't believe Jack lost. I mean I really can't believe it. Didn't think I'd see that... ever. Damn, it's actually really creepy. Ya get used to Jack winning. And now I'm stumbling around all disoriented going "WTF does everything mean?" and I'm having a hard time coping with basic little tasks and all my friends are like "dude you're kinda jumpy, are you alright?" and I'm like "I just need to work through some shit" and they're like "yeah you're scaring everyone, you probably shouldn't be around people right now."

Awesome night! Already lookin' forward to the next. The bridge beat the tunnel. Though that west end 'blind corner' was a little sketch w/ the speeding car/SUV/buses and meandering ridazz.
How much money was raised for our injured rida? I say we keep the $5 entry fee and keep this an on going fund raiser.

well at least now we know Jack has limits.... the man did a 114 mile 16000 foot ride earlier in the day, then entered both the fixed and geareed divisions and made it to the semi finals in both divisions.

also want to apologize to a rider named MAZ I screwed up on his time keeping- I erased it from the stop watch before we wrote it down.. the cops came during his race and I got distracted once again apologies for that. video replay might be able to clear up the issue.I will review and post your time if it shows up on video. I offered to let him get some rest and go once more but he took off a little while later. Hopefully it wont happen again.

You can't get a ticket at the NOHO sprints for standing on the side of the road. ITS ON A BIKE PATH.
Last year there were so many people wanting to race in the 2nd street tunnel races, the MAN shut it down. If they are doing the downtown one again they should have prelims to get all of the "I think I can win"s out of the line-up. There should be about 10 races total. Last year with the amount of wanna-be fast riders who think they can win, there were about 100 too many riders wanting to race. This caused the tunnel to be filled with racers in the line-up to race.
parlorbikes01.19.09 - 1:27 pm

Actually you remember WPDRII it all wrong.
There was 100+ ridazz but many of them, my self included, had no pretensions of about being "fast".
I had a blast riding as fast as I have ever ridden. I was surprised at a new level of exhaustion in a very short period of time.
I took advice from tony z and others on how to dfo my best and was proud of my slow ass time (I was only faster than OverTheHill who rode a Daihon with 20" wheels),
I was also inspired to race and plunk down a $5 donation/ entry fee on behalf Rebecca who took an awful spill on Wolfpack a month or two earlier. That the money was going to her made participation a no brainer.
The cops were cool as hell and gave us no shit about our race. The cars just dealt with it.
Yes there was a lot of standing around and the race went late. But the weather was nice. The vibe was right. Nobody got a ticket. And we owned the streets for one epic night.
trickmilla01.19.09 - 1:41 pm
reply
My bad, I was thinking of the 2nd street drags.
The bridge races almost never have problems.
If they did though, it would be pretty easy for cops to block us on the bridge with no way out.
I always get a little nervous if a ride stops there for an extended period of time. Expecially when the black very quiet chopper is hovering around.
parlorbikes01.19.09 - 1:51 pm
reply
Damn, I must not be fast. In like every pic there is some dude with a bright colored AEROSPOKE. That gives you at least an extra bar spin, 2 more feet on a skip stop and at least 3 mph.
