Midnight Ridazz Documentary

Hey, my name is Kyle Brosius and I'm a Digital Media
student at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising here in
Los Angeles. I would like to do a 3 minute documentary piece on the
Midnight Ridazz for my film production class. I think what you guys
are doing is really good for the city, and I'd like to put something
together that shows that. Anyone interested in taking part? Here is what it would
involve: Short interviews with the organizers concerning the history
of and reasons for the rides. Interviews with anyone else who would
be into talking about the rides, why they participate in the rides,
what changes the rides could bring about, and the environmental impact
automobiles have on Los Angeles and the world. These interviews could
be conducted anywhere the interviewee feels comfortable. Myself, and
the few friends that are helping me would like to bring two or three
video cameras and a still camera on a few of the rides to document
everything. In a few weeks when the documentary is done, you guys
will have free reign to do whatever you want with it. Please let me
know if you're interested. Thanks for your time.

Kyle,
This sounds awesome, but I think you could do a great job if you rode with us for awhile. Get a good feel for the rides and the ridazz, and then work on your doc. You'll get the doc you want then!
Not sure if you been ridin with us or not, I'm just going by your profile. Also talk to some of the guys that are shooting the rides now too.

Yup, best way to get a feel is to go on some rides. Also, be sure to catch all the documentaries and interviews on this site on the KCET 28 site.

everythings already been documented.and we dont do much for the city,or the environment.we mostly do it to get drunk cause we're cheap and didnt have many friends before we found out about bikes/midnight ridazz.move on to better subjects.thanks,Dingo.

Also, what is left to document at this point? You've seen one video of a bunch of bikes going down a street and a bunch of people yelling "WHOOO!" and you've seen 'em all. Go document the "hashing" scene. It's the new Midnight Ridazz.

It's a free country and he can document us if he wants. I just think that we've been documented to death by now. Eventually you reach a point of diminishing returns.
Surely there's some interesting, new, creative shit going on somewhere in LA that hasn't already been talked about by KCET, NPR, the LA Times, Wikipedia, ten thousand college newspapers, and everybody's mom. Wouldn't it be more fun to go seek that out and make a movie about it?

There's still plenty of enclaves across the country, let alone most of the state, that still think of "group-riding" as a bunch of, Southern-like, aristocrats riding carbon-fiber frames and sporting lycra.

IT'S PERFECTLY LEGAL TO HAVE SOMEONE TAKE YOUR PIC IN PUBLIC. SURE YOU CAN GET ALL PSYCHO ON THEM AND STUFF, BUT DON'T PHYSICALLY TOUCH THEM, OR THEY'LL BE TAKING YOU AWAY!

dunno PC - I think with something like bike culture, it's always changing and developing and there's always new people coming in and new idea's and stuff.. and always different ways of presenting it... so I think there's always plenty to be documented bc it's a living, growing thing.
The challenge is to present it in a way or from an angle that is not overkill.
I'm sure Kyle can find lots to talk to people about and develop his story from there..
Heck - he can even make a documentary about how it's all been documented!

I'm with redridinghood on this one. I think the spirit of this scene is still in the process of maturing and every documentary along the way will inevitably become part of a larger uberdoc down the line, when it's all grown up and out of adolescence. Look at the dogtown skate scene for instance.
Eddie... dude, if you're so worried about it why don't you just wear a mask on the next ride. Nobody's going to hold it against you, I promise. In fact, I'm going to make the same suggestion to anyone worried about being incriminated or fearful of revealing their secret identity so all the supervillians on the internet can more easily find your batcaves. Wait... you're all superHEROES... right?

sheesh lots of hating going on. waaaaa! there's already a documentary waaaa! go check out some other scene! waaaaa! how about a waaaa'mburger and french cries to all the peanut gallery of haters. Kyle I hope you arent discouraged by the trolls... most of the ridazz arent haters they are fun people... come out and ride and talk to anyone you want... dont let a couple short sighted trolls discourage you. most ridazz are friendly and inclusive.

PC, the statement "we've been documented to death by now" insinuates that our Midnight Ridazz is dead. it's exactly the opposite -- LA bike culture is more alive and vibrant than ever and so long as that's the case, it should continue to be documented!

Nah, I say the more docos the better. Assuming people will take a look at what's come before them, it will inspire our filmmaker pals to do it better. Tell a different side of the story, go deeper. Use an new filmmaking technique. Something.
Not that the existing ones are bad. (I don't know -- I haven't seen them.) But the more stuff people make, the better the odds that someone will make something good. There'll be a wider pool from which to choose the "definitive" documentary, and lively debates will erupt at 7-11s all over Los Angeles.
I called a friend of mine on Sunday, and she was watching "Dig." I was tempted to invite myself over and watch it with her. A fascinating story well told.

PC, Troll is still a fairly, young term to me as far as the web goes.
I know what it means, but every time I hear it, the first thing that comes to my mind is something beneath the park bridge that I shot with my BB-gun when I was 13.
As far as the documentary goes, just breathe in, suck it up, and bust out that lethal, camera of DOOM!!!
I pack mine in a shoulder holster with extra SD's.
Hell, I never became a camera-person myself until I met up with the Ridazz.
Consider the mere sight of the horde, an encouragement.

There are lots of great resources on the
Wikipedia Page.
Ignore the shit talkers (myself included) we spend way too much time here master-debating. We are an open community, do your home work, show up, talk to people, be respectful, and pay attention and you'll get great material for a doc.

I agree with trickmilla, just come out and check out the ride. If you can't make it this Friday night for the Sadie Hawkins Dance ride, definitely come out for Sins and Sprockets on February 15th.
The majority of the riders are friendly and accepting. Some will wear masks, in an effort to maintain their anonymity, but that probably will only add to the mystique and allure of the group.
