right on, if you have access to bootlegs or special songs you want played just post them on here and I'll make sure they get on the play list.
Also if we could find an after hours to hang out in the area that would be sweet and tender.
I have a route idea. We could start in Echo Park at rush hour in the morning and take Sunset to downtown, and I mean take ALL of Sunset. Then we'd ride in circles in downtown and and blast the Smiths, tormenting all the jocks in their cubicles who no doubt tormented us in high school.
Need help with set list, I'd like to hear really obscure songs not just Suedehead and How Soon Is Now, actually if you could all post your fav I'll make sure it's on the set list and If I don't have it you can show me where to get it.
For example my fav smith songs is Girl Afraid
This ride will be a cake walk in Hollywood. If anyone knows any smiths cover bands that may be interested and know of a place that would host us w/no cover let me know.
Ya ever heard of Sandie Shaw. She did 3 smith songs with Morrissey producing them and lending his voice in the background. If you can it her version of hand in glove is excellent. Lets not leave out Interlude duet with my godess Siouxie.
just realized I'll be in Old BLighty for this ride. miss both concert and ride = shucks....... Have you heard the Pretenders version of Everyday?
GIrlfriend in a Coma a bit poppy but it made my daughter laugh!!!
I'm so down for this ride, being a hug fan, I even got that fuckers name tattooed on me! I've seen him 24 times and will see him 5 more times this year!!!!!!!!
I'm already telling the San Diego crew about this
If it's not love, than it's the bikes that will bring us together!
Yeah Chrissie Hinde does some justice to everyday. MEt her in London before she formed The Pretenders. She was the american chick who wouldn't do the dishes at the house she was crashing. Originally from Ohio.
Best ever remake of a Smiths song goes to The Dream Academy for thier version of the 'Please, Please, Please...' . I have the 12'' vynl record still to this date.
that is a good idea but not everyone can afford to buy tix which is why I intend to start the ride at or around the venue when it lets out so that if you did you to the concert you can join us outside and ride out. I know the Electric Warriors from San Diego will probably be in the concert and we'll wait for them. This will be a late late so bring your breakfast
Morrissey has announced a very rare press conference for television crews at the Hollywood Palladium in California on October 1, the same day his 10-show residency at the venue commences. The singer will perform five songs followed by a question and answer period.
Morrissey's residency is closing a chapter in the Palladium's history, as these will be the final 10 shows at the venue before it closes for extensive renovations.
CAUTION: Don't assume you can park for free at the Rite Aid parking lot.
A few months ago I parked at the Rite Aid parking lot on Western and Wilshire and then went to LACM and Ride-Arc. Apparently they rent their parking lot to a Korean club after they close at 10pm and my car was towed.
The bill was $300+
The LA times recently had an article about the towing mafia.
I dont know how everyone is working this out, if your driving, but is there anyone who wants to meet up early (like at 9) to do a pre ride to the palladium? Aimless riding, stops at watering holes in Silver Lake and such. No goal but to be at palladium at 11pm and 2 hrs to do it. I am thinking mabey starting at Chinatown metro station or Pershing Square.
We at the Oven were informed that the Oven will be one of the Stops.
We have decided to be open for all ridazz. Josef is baking a cake (not kidding), so myself and a few other volunteers will be there for sure.
LADIES: I personally scrubbed the entire bathroom for you. Even the toilet. So this should rate very high on bathroom stop list.
Just so you suckers no...there is something else to do before the ride as well.
DRKRM Gallery @ 2121 North San Fernando Road Los Angeles, CA will be having an opening reception on photography from the LA punk scene during the 70's.
The Oven thanks you dannyzuko!
And of course all the ridazz that stopped down for some free food, booze, and coffee. We worked hard on it.
I think it's nice to be able to support rides while not being on them myself.
Any time guys
Any time.
Oh, and if any one wants to, we have plenty of left over food. Plus what ever else we bring down.
So we are having a BBQ tomorrow at 6:00pm.
Every one is welcome to join us.
Maybe after that we will go for a short ride on what we are now calling "The Oven Route".
Also, Squire Bear took one for the team tonight. Actually he took a few. In the end though we have invented yet another fun fucked up bicycle game in the process. We call it "Mini bike tow-behind drag racing". The name is pretty self explanatory.
im just now waking up....
i didn't get to finish the ride and that kind of bums me out..
at least my crankshaft broke at the top of that hill in Griffith Park!
all i had to do was ride down hill to the red line on vermont..
now Im just staring at my bike, wishing i were dead or had a bunch of tools or a car..
im too lazy to get up and play mechanic and drag my ass to the bike oven or the kitchen..
p.s.. BBD.. you are a god among men for lugging that fucking trailer up that hill on los feliz..
Amazing effing ride!!! My legs are hating me right now, but those climbs up to the observatory and Hollywood sign were sooooooo worth it. Major huge thanks to Danny, Eddie, Bike Oven and everyone else for the best ride I've ever been on! Extra special thanks to BBD for being a trooper and providing the tunes all the way up to Griffith.
Met some great people last night/this morning too. It was such a euphoric moment being up there with you crazy bastards as the sun was coming up. Also, best breakfast ever at Cafe 101. Good call, Megan.
Thanks again BIKE OVEN for being very good hosts. you guys rock! Big Bike Dan you did it! Up Griffith Observatory via Los Feliz!!! Everyone who came out! I heart you all.
Thanks for all that put this ride together and made it on the ride. I wish I could have gone with the rest of the ridazz to the Hollywood sign but I was beat. Partying till 6am Saturday morning and riding in the afternoon took it's toll on my bike. Next time I'll have to rest her a little more.
Hope you guys were able to see the sun come up in time.
We took BBD's trailer to new heights! I think the Griffith Observatory is the highest elevation it been right? I mean Las Vegas was probably higher, but that wasn't by pedal power.
And a big shout out to the Bike Oven for having us over. The new sign rocks! Looking good man!
Wow. Freaking, just wow. Holy crap. Woke up around 10:30pm. That was an epic journey. I think I was riding off and on for almost 19 hours with the all the other riding I had been doing that day. Those hills, the spectacular views, the soundscape experience in the tunnel, everything. Amazing. Completely unexpected, but wonderful, and so glad to see so many people make it up those hills. Especially people that may have never tried something like without a group dynamic for motivation. Oh and of course rock trowing for entertainment, classic.
Big thanks for organizing the ride, and thanks to the Oven for the rest stop of nourishment. Props to Big Bike Dan, I can't believe you hauled that sound system all the way up to the observatory after carrying that thing all the way from the Bikerowave. Thanks Danny for the lift home, adding more miles to my day slash night slash next day, would have probably been unnecessary punishment for my self.
Much Love to the Bicycle Oven for the eats. Danny that was a helava ride. Thanks for letting me ride with you or waiting for me til I made it up the Hill. I wanted to drop out but thats not the midnight ridazz way...I made myself finish the ride. The view was worth it and it was all fun. I have lost of pics that I'll post later, just wanted to say thanks to all the peeps that were at the end...breakfast at the 101 really hit the spot after a long night!
-Latest start yet ;-)...
-Thanks Danny, Eddie, Benny, et all for all the work hyping and setting up this tour de pain.
-Thanks for the proper sendoff Ashira & fellow Octab'day kidzz and party goerzz.
-Thanks Bike Oven Volunteerzz (mmmmm, fresh cake, rice and beanzz)
-BBD, I don't know how you do that voodoo that you do so well, Thank you.
-Manimalzz represent!!!
-Eddie boy for doing it the hard way ;-)
-Gary, you are a bike-riding monster. What was that, 24 hours on a bike? Damn!!
-NEWB310, sorry about that crankshaft. That's what happens when you mash like you do!
-Thanks to the security at both peaks for being cool to a few ridazz (and taking pics. 1,2,3...mota)
-Nice call on the 101 as the breakfast stop, Megan (Hope you got that derailleur issue worked out, see you soon!)
-That was the longest 33 miles I've ever ridden!
Last but not least, Thanks and congrats to the Lucky 13. Epic ride!
The Hollywood Sign is a famous landmark in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles, California, spelling out the name of the area in 15.2 m (50 ft)[1] high white letters. It was created as an advertisement in 1923,The sign company owner, Thomas Fisk Goff (1890-1984) designed the sign. Each letter of the sign was 30 ft (9 m) wide and 50 ft (15 m) high, and was studded with some 4000 light bulbs. The sign was officially dedicated on July 13, 1923. It was not intended to be permanent. Some sources say its expected life was to be about a year and a half but after the rise of the American cinema in Los Angeles, it became an internationally recognized symbol, and was left there. It became so associated with Hollywood, that in September of 1932, actress Peg Entwistle committed suicide by jumping to her death from the letter "H", as she saw the sign as a symbol of the industry that had rejected her.
Official maintenance of the sign ended in 1939
"The Beachwood Voice," during the early 1940s, Albert Kothe (the sign's official caretaker) caused an accident that destroyed the letter "H", as seen in many historical pictures. Kothe was driving his car up to the top of Mount Lee drunk, lost control of the vehicle, and stumbled off the cliff behind the "H". While Kothe was not injured, the 1928 Ford Model A was destroyed, as was the "H".
In 1978, the Chamber set out to replace the intensely deteriorated sign with a more permanent structure. Nine donors gave $27,700 apiece to sponsor replacement letters made of Australian steel, guaranteed to last for many years (see Donors section below).
These new letters were each 45 ft (13.7 m) high and ranged from 31 to 39 ft (9.3 to 11.8 m) wide. The new version of the sign was unveiled on Hollywood's 75th anniversary, November 14, 1978, before a live television audience of 60 million people.
Refurbishment, donated by Bay Cal Commercial Painting[3], began again in November 2005, as workers stripped the letters back to their metal base and repainted them white. Also in 2005, the original 1923 sign was put up for sale on eBay by producer/entrepreneur Dan Bliss.[4] Bliss sold the sign to artist Bill Mack.

There's still drive in theaters here in LA? Last one I remember was the Pico Rivera Fiesta Four... about 15 years ago. Do you have a bootleg copy already..... we can make a special showing at the Bike Oven. It going to run on the Laemmles circuit so mabey we can see it at the Nuarts 7:30 showing on release date then ride out.
There is a website regarding the movie control,
http://momentum.control.substance001.com/ It shows clips and links to reviews, etc Looks like most are giving the movie great reviews.
Also a good flick that maybe shown would be 24 hour party people, this is about the rise of factory records.
it looks like it's a NY release first but i heard there were screenings somewhere in LA. I'm finding it really difficult to get any information for any such screenings though.
Playing at the Landmarks Nuart 10/19-10/25
daily shows at...
4pm, 7pm, 9:50
with matinee's Fri-Sun
1pm
Nuart Theater is on Santa Monica just off the 405 in Westwood
if anyone digs up a bootleg, i'd be totally down for a ride + screening...bike oven maybe?
assuming that's not gonna happen between now and this weekend though, i think i'm still gonna ride out to the nuart to see the movie if anyone wants to join.

slight route change, if you're coming I will have printed route slips but I think it's going to be a small (intimate) group so we'll all stick together, get lost together and find each other :)
Great job guys, Ruben & Sonny and you rocked those daing hills, thanks everyone for coming out, I actually anticipated a much smaller group so very cool to ride with you guys and gal.
