What the EFF?!?!
Has anyone ever had something like THIS --->
happen to them?
I mean, i know i put a loooot of torque on my bike but i haven't been riding hard lately, AND i put a larger rear cog on that day too... All i did was slow down to make a u-turn for a fallen rida... EFF.

I have never seen that happen, but the picture of the break through the crank looks super cool.

I bet this frame was made in communist China, yeah?

They don't build 'em like Kabuki Sky anymore.

I did the same thing to my BB shell, as well as the headtube of my first fixie, an OG lugged roadbike similar to yours, Richie. Morey at the Bike Factory welded it back together, and it rode good til I got another frame.

Yes, it does happen, just ask Agent Orange - he lost his beloved Phoenix to a similar failure just over a year ago.
The small amount of rust on the break shows you that the frame was probably cracked for some time before it actually broke. Steel tends to fail slowly in this way, rather than catastrophically. Moral: if you hear or feel anything odd on your bike, check closely.

I just snapped my specialized allez the exact same place... I was able to get a replacement frame for free though. remember to save your receipts.

Looks to me like it's clean fresh metal at the break. Hard to say with the pic. Also looks like the break was through the lug too.

i might just have to make this into a freak bike. Yes.
it's a must.

Get yer eyes or your monitor checked old man, there's definitely some rust there! [channeling Spiral]
Not saying the rust caused the failure, just that once you have a hairline crack moisture gets in and you can see a small amount of rust on the surface of the break, indicating that it was not an instantaneous failure.

btw, that bandage is made out of a pad, not a tampon. tampons are inserted into the vagina.

(cough) (cough) ahhhh who's the elder statesman here?
I'm not saying there isn't rust evident, I'm just having a problem seeing how much there is there. More than likely it's a combo of both. The metal weaken by the rust and then having the rest snap with a hard pedal.

what's a vagina? is it like God?
I don't believe in either because I've never seen them before

is that an old steel frame? or new?
old + water/moisture/rain = rusty seat tube = rust on lug = oh snap!
adrian01.29.09 - 4:46 pm
reply
just weld it back together and keep going.

oh snap!
If it's torn off along the edge where the lug meets the tube...instead of just the tube pulling out of the lug...
I'd say your frame is toast... but what do I know?

Bring it by my shop and I'll see if it can be saved.

Technically, Molly's bandage is actually a pantyliner. not a pad, not a tampon.

'feminine product' is a nice, all-encompassing term.

I like the phrase "feminine protection" because it's so vague. Pearl-handled gun. Pink hand grenade. Floral-print nun-chucks. &c.
Sorry to hear about your bike, Richie! Los Angeloooop-bike.

Kind of reminds me of this dudes art work. He did a series of ceramics cast of guns. All kinds like AK-47 and stuff. Then he painted the casts in blue floral patterns, like your typical ceramic plates. Really cool pieces actually.
