Ideas

Okay, so obviously, with the mass amounts of craziness, I have some ideas. Or maybe just one big one that's pretty obvious.
Let's find new spots!
A big example: Pan Pacific. It needs to cool down for a little. The Grove! Certain liquor stores.
It's just to get the idea out there that rides can have different stops/ spots, spots that work.
On the Formal Ride not too long ago, we had an encounter with the police, but they simply told the ride leader not to go into a certain part of the city, because they didn't wanna deal with us. How cool is that? The cool cops are just tired of dealing with a bunch of crazy (and not so crazy) people on bikes. The mean cops are obviously lashing out and doing things like pushing people off bikes and giving ridiculous license tickets.
We should just start looking and thinking of other spots that haven't been tainted.
I guess that's all. I'm not sure if I got my point across the way I wanted to- I guess there isn't another way- but, yeah. I guess that's all. Good idea?

Some ideas work and some don't. Just listen. (Or rather, read.)

Yeah, Last night a couple of us were talking, it's probably good that we lay off using Pan Pacific Park as a stop for a while. We've been chased out of there the last 2 or 3 times we were in there (of course that was in like a week), we've been hitting it several times a week for a while now. It's starting to become obvious that we like to hang there, and an easy target. Last night was absurd, true, however, it's becoming clear that "they" know we have been using the park a bunch at night. Let's lay off it as a stop for a while.
Besides, I think, in general, we need to do a couple things with rides, I think, one, we need to find new spots, in general, to hang out, Griffith Park on LACM last night was awesome, a new spot, chill and enjoyable.
The city of Los Angeles is 432 sq miles by itself, not to mention the other cities it surrounds, borders, lies adjacent to, etc., I think we can come up with more places to hang out than the like 5 or 10 we habitually go to. I know we can come up with better ones, newer ones, more interesting ones.
I also think we need to think of something better to do at stops that just stand around getting wasted. Sure it's fun to get drunk, high, whatever, however, the fact that we tend to be doing that so much definitely will not contribute to our public image. I don't know what that could be that we could do, but I bet it could be F.U.N.. We need to make stops about being other than getting smashed.
Being that the first thing people wanted to do on critical mass last night, less than 5 minutes after we left Wilshire/Western was stop and get more booze, I think we need to make some evaluation of our practices.
I'm not saying we need temperance movement among ridazz, prohibition is the opposite of what I'm saying, what I am saying is, let's try to be a little more responsible. This includes PLANNING (yes, a ride takes more than just posting it on the calendar), and one of the things that I think we need to do is plan a little more for rides. Lets get back to having themes people can get into, things that will make people want to dress up or get into the theme for, honestly, it makes people care more about the ride they are on, it's not just another x night booze cruise. And this planning includes routes too. Let's look for new streets we don't ride much, and try to bring some newness and wonder back. If we're going new places, people are less apt to be blackout drunk and pissing on each other.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY
is the magic phrase of the day.
anybody else watching these UCI women's finals?
hardcore. 80 km/h = 49 mph on a turn during a descent takes more balls than i have.

THIS IS TO EVERYONE WHO READS THE THREAD. START ASKING OTHER PEOPLE ABOUT THIS TOO!
obviously we all live in different parts of the city and we all travel different places on our bikes every day.
i'm saying for everyone to keep an eye out for good NEW roads to have rides on and places to stop at.
i work on the edge of vernon and it's all factory shit over there. it's not too far away and these places have big parking lots that are tucked back into side streets instead of on a main street. and i haven't seen or heard about them having night security guards. (that COULD be a concern but i don't think they have them)
that's my idea.

yes! themed rides for sure! Whitey Tightey ride, Cowboys and Indians, All orange night?!? We are all so creative, and we can have lotsa F.U.N. with this.
Personal Responsibility!
&
As a note about litter, I think everyone needs to be more vocal about leaving no trace. I'm not saying get all uppity, but for some reason, i feel like less seasoned riders or "the cool kids" are under the impression it's lame to be respectful of wherever we stop (a park, museum, liquor store, etc.). As influential riders and respected community members ::cough:: we should all instill coolness into personal responsibility.

What Fuzz said.
Up until maybe two years ago, plenty of people had a drink or three but they didn't make a big deal about it. I'm not sure what happened, but somehow between then and now, things have devolved to where we're acting like a bunch of eighth graders trying to impress each other with the fact that we drink and smoke and get cRaAaAzEeEeEh. We might as well be putting Jack Daniels stickers on the insides of our lockers and drawing little bongs on our Pee Chee folders at this point. No surprise, then, that we've attracted a lot of people these last few years who literally think that these rides are an excuse to get wasted in a big roving mob.
So why don't we just all agree to knock that bullshit off? It's about riding bikes and having creative adventures in the city, and whatever else you do, just
do it, be cool about it, and don't expect the whole ride to keep stopping for you to get supplies for it. Fair enough?

How's about, "Bicycle-Mounted Search Party"?
We all take off into the hills to search for, then rescue an abandoned hiker, dog, runaway, etc.,
Or, if the person's being held captive, we roll up and rescue the person, gun's-a-blazing, cranks-a-cranking!!!!

I put this in the 'I'm over this shit"thread but it belongs here too:
I think it would be a great idea for people to not publicize drinking and smoking on ride listings... I mean.. do we really think a ride called "Grateful Ridazz" is NOT gonna include smoking????? why specifically publish it?? This is a website set up to promote rides and the community set up around bikes. Riding and drinking, no matter what we all choose to do, is ILLEGAL. I mean - don't get me wrong - anyone who knows me know's I'm definitely not straight edge - but I seriously don't understand why it's ok to actively PROMOTE rides that list BUI's as an integral part of 'the ride'.
