818 FIX-IT RIDE...your thoughts please

A once a month proactive direct action ride to circle dangerous potholes around city. We've all seen them, we've hit them and crashed as a result. Trying to get a group a cyclists to spray a circle around the hole as a warning. Maybe have a limit of 10 circles per ride? ANy thoughts?

hell yeah, this is an awesome idea!
maybe use that neon fluorescent paint that construction guys use?
there's a MEAN pothole on reseda southbound, just north of sherman way.
it's a weird shaped pothole and it sneaks up on EVERYONE.

yeah that ones crazy!
it seems like the road crew didn't fix a previous pothole before repaving that section. i think thats why its so smooth and sneaks up on you.

I'm thinking this should be a day time ride so we can actually see the holes, you know?

Night has less traffic, and is easier to move. There will be enough people to spot the dangerous ones. We wanna get those sneaky optical illusion ones that you might hit at night (but not in the day)......its a trial run, so you might be absolutely right. If its too dark, maybe next month we''ll do a day run. Good lookin out though...

yo.........crashed hard last thursday.......circled the hole on friday.....when i rode past the hole today (wednesday).......the shit was fixed......power to the people yo.....

Just need to make sure the people who go aren't being stupid and circling bumps, or non-dangerous holes. At that point it turns into vandalism.

exactly trevor.....i tried to be pretty specific in the ride heading for the 10th, but its up to us as a community to police ourselves.

This is a kickass idea.
While you do it, you might want to create a list of WHERE the circled potholes are, and then fill out the city's online form to give the city the list of where and what to fix.

As the 5 of us are in the parking lot before the ride.......LAPD shows up and creeps up the the group and stops. 2 cops get out and ask for the ride leader. I tell them at first that he is not here, because i figure with the posting on Ridazz and the paint in my bag is enough to bust me for conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor (which is a felony). Anyhow, after a few seconds, i tell the law that I am the ride leader. The Sgt (Maria St. Pierre) tells me that she just wanted to tell us that Devonshire Division would NOT be writing citations for what we were doing, and just wanted us to be safe on the streets etc. She wanted to know our general route, so she could advise neighboring PDs or what we were doing in the area. She gave a card, and asked if we needed anything to call. We did our thing with no problem. Direct Action now. Be pro-active in YOUR community.

You should have the meet up be in different areas each month, so you can get holes in different areas, you know?
