Woohoo!! New thread! I wonder if you can just bring the other thread messages and merge it... then our topic will one day be just as much as the wolfpack. I feel guilty. I have been on my bike since the Sleaze ride... time to lube up and ride this Thursday!! See you guys and gals there!!
hey rich! please remember to think "CUB". it just feels like you want to create a wolfpack on the westside, which is cool, but maybe the cubpack should be a bit more easy going/less intense.
I'm up for a fast-ish pace, though I got blown out of wolfpack (I did make it to Glendale before getting ditched, though) This is kind of a mid-speed thing, right?
PS. I have a single speed which means Big hills = bad, so if you're doing big hills please let me know and I'll train elsewhere this week...
Heya Annie! Thanks again for riding with me to the Sleaze ride btw!
The Cubcamps goal isn't to be like Wolfpack, but to train and make stronger those who aren't at that level and/or would like to be. This ride isn't just another social ride. It's getting bikes to do what they do best and getting people to push their limits for a healthier mind and body too.
This is a great ride if you have been thinking of doing a wolfpack ride but aren't sure if you can keep up. Enough rides with us and you'll get there.
"hey rich! please remember to think "CUB". it just feels like you want to create a wolfpack on the westside, which is cool, but maybe the cubpack should be a bit more easy going/less intense." - meandmybluebike
hey bluebike.. it was pretty fast for me... probably avg 16-17 but it's because others went fast and once you catch a red light... it's easy to fall behind. They were good on waiting though which is good. Oh.. and the waiting isn't too long where you start going cold. Just enough to get everyone together.
"though I got blown out of wolfpack" - Samhain
Hey Samhain... I was the one w/ you when we fell behind in Glendale for that wolfpack thing... I was able to keep up this time and there were some hills. Richie and Garry were able to ride w/ me to catch up to the pack when I cramped up.
Hey Richie... are we going to have spoke cards/directions?? I didn't see any but I saw you peeking at your wrist and assumed it was the route. Will you have something for us in case we fall behind? I'm cool if I get directions so I can catch up to you guys for the next checkpoint. See you all there!! Thanks in advance..
There will be a spoke card every 5 th ride that you complete. There won't be directions (tonight) Section by section of the ride will be announced at each stop point.
nice ride tonight cublets.. i just took ditched you guys at lincoln and venice to grab some cubbie treats (celery)...thanks for pushing me tonight and ridding me of any biking confidence!<< fer real.. and i cant wait to kiss everyone next thurs...prrrrrrr.....
o and wait til you guys check out these pics from RICH TO THE WAHT WHAAATTT!!!!!
WOOT WOOT! Hope you cubs had a nice ride tonight. I didn't make this one cuz I had tickets to the Kings game tonight at the Staples Center. Had a good hustle downtown drinking and biking... just the way God meant it to be. Hopefully I'll be on Cubcamp next week.
Freaking great ride again last night. Sorry to the guy that got left behind. All in all great ride. Chatos? That taco truck was delicious. Can't wait to see the pics!! See you guys at the 7-11 ride. Lates
No problem about getting left behind. My seatpost binder bolt completely broke when I was trying to cinch it down. My saddle slipped all the way down to my top tube and was unrideable. I bailed out and went back to SM, riding out of the saddle the entire way. I need to give the allen wrench back that guy that lent it to me. Anyone know his name or how to contact him?
richie, you bastard! i still hate you, but that was an awesome ride! i'm gonna pimp my bike with testosterone by glueing some hair on the frame and filling a water gun with milk, so that everytime we come to a hill and conquer it, i can squirt my white fluid everywhere, scratch my hairy bike, and roar!
1) That freaking Taco truck. Although i didn't get a taco (but wish i did) the Orchata was refreshing.
2) Visit to the possibly new location for Bikerowave in a Pimp little alley.
3) I was thoroughly impressed with the inner animals (cubs?) in all of you! Good hustling!
and my favorite
4) Heading East on Santa Monica blvd a few blocks before la brea, i became disgruntled with this slow civic. I decide to pass on the right with the slight chance that they might turn without signalling...Which of COURSE they did. We turned the same speed but with such little room, my whole body was leaning on the car and i could see my wheels starting to go underneath, when she realized i was there and stopped. I circled the front of the car staring at her. She froze with her hands over her mouth and said i'm SO SORRY!!! "I'm not hurt, you're not hurt, lets just have a great rest of the night...Oh and you should use your signal next time :D", I said. Liberation is the best feeling in the world.
Yo, Richie I know you'll be out this Thursday but ya better prepare for I got a whole list of songs to box and to beat and to Jam out to at di end of di ride. Ride out in Palm Springs!
P p P p e Ace, KatacykLsLA2NY
Hey, I am the guy with green fixed gear. I will probably be at cubcamp thursday, and am planning on going to wolfpack monday night. Or you can just fucking call me 503.750.7724
If my cleats come in in time, I might try to come out... or i might do the LA fixed ride, but who knows, it's all in gods hands now (or more accurately the US Post office...)... stupid bike shop not having what I need... grr.
This week Cubcamp starts at the 7-11 on the corner of Venice and Sepulveda. Ride leaves at 9pm SHARP. Meet at 8:30. I'll post the ride as well. Richie is out of town so I'm subbing. Fortunately for you guys, I'm slower than he is...
Nice to see you sub in Jude... especially since you're not as fast.. lol. I need the rest. I'll see you guys on Thurs!! You're gonna miss a good ride Richie... Lates!
Last call for route testing! I'd like to hit one of the downtown tunnels as well but have no idea how to fit them in... You can even meet me along the way.
i will try to make it out to the Cubpack with yall this week. sounds fun as heck. i missed my fast ride out on the east side this week (Badger Song), cuz of mechanical difficulties. Cubpack is a bit further away for me but i need to get my ride on for the week. hope my bike will be ready in time.
The "Cub Scouts" Tested the route and it's a going to be epic! Thanks to SKIDMARCUS and Meandmybluebike. Looking at about 29 miles but it's actually not that bad... Unless you scarf down a HUGE BURRITO from El Pollo Loco halfway thorough the ride, right bluebike?
Sup all... so for the cubscout ride... it's pretty chill right? just putting the route together? Not a cubpack ride? Lates... BTW... good job you guys for all working together. Lates!
nope digable, it's like riding cubpack twice a week. jude said it was going to be chill, but then he started screaming on us to hustle.
"U-TURN! U-TURN!"
It turns out I work and leave my job around 8:45 .Can the cubcamp wait for me a little bit say about 10 minutes past 9. (I usually overestimate with time so.... I'll proabably be their at around 9:10).
Yes. Thanks for waiting for me. The girl in the red Bianchi.
Kata... sup... it's Al... dude w/ the whistle. I'm coming from the valley so I usually barely make it a little after 9pm. I'm gonna try to get there before but I'm sure Jude can wait. Oh... and happy belated birthday!!
"Hey everybody! This ride sounds great and I am going to try and make it out tomorrow night. - Donovan"
Yeah... join us Donovan. It's fun. It's kinda fast but not Wolfpack fast.
"nope digable, it's like riding cubpack twice a week. - meandmybluebike"
So.. 2nd cubpack aye? Talk about training... I'm up for it.
I'm not going to make it out tonight after all. I was looking forward to it but I just had something unexpected come up. Have a good ride and hopefully I will make it out next week.
I am sooo tired. Thanks for a great ride and nice to see you made it Richard. You missed a good ride Richie. Glad to see you make it to the ride Kata. Man... I'm soo bad w/ names. Thanks to the dude in the lime green bike on the art of drafting. We all got to give it a try. Just make sure you guys smell good or else I'll just ride behind the ladies. Annie... your camera digital? I wonder how my pics came out. I gotta get myself an SLR... You guys riding RideArc? Laters!
hey digable al!
it's a 35mm, so i have to finish the roll and... well, the old fashioned process. and don't ride behind me because i reek of b.o. and i will fart. i'll be riding sm critical mass and ride arc tonight!!!
yippy!
yeah, and if you keep feeding me, i'll reveal more secrets about meandmybluebike.
who is creating/scouting next thursday's ride?
i'd like to do one in the future but without the insults or yelling people that happened on the last ride, which turned a lot of riders off. you know who you are and it's puts a damper on the ride.
"Cycling in line with traffic makes you visible, predictable, and free of roadside hazards while reducing turning conflicts. This cyclist moves with traffic and provides a public service of traffic calming. He can also choose to allow a faster vehicle to pass, then look behind again to get back in line."
... so stop yelling at me and others about staying strickly in the bike lane (you know who you are.)
Things to consider bringing: (also to nobody in particular) I've bunched them up into 2 easy groups; please pick one.
GROUP 1:
1, Spare tube
2. Pump
3. Something to eat (or money to buy something)
4. Enough water or whatever you drink
5. Helmet? Proper lighting (especially if you will be weaving across multiple lanes of traffic.)
6. Something to carry your shit in so you aren't forced to turn around and attack people for "holding up the ride" while they're picking your belongings up in an intersection...
7. Tools.
8. Your A game, as this is a wolfpack training ride.
OR
Group 2:
1. None of the above.
2. Holier than thou hipster attitude.
3. Complaints about the people who are being of service to their fellow riders.
Ohhh...I thought this was the hipcamp, not cubcamp. :(
No, but really, I don't know how people can ride around with no tools, spare tubes, or patch kits. I know sometimes we forget, but I also know that there are some people out there who do this consistently. I haven't had a flat in over 6 months, personally. But that doesn't mean that I can stop carrying the gear necessary to deal with a flat or other crap when it does happen.
I didn't really see a problem with anyones attitude last ride, it's just that everyone has their own style of riding that they are comfortable with. Especially regarding their position in the road. Personally I hate a lot of bike lanes because they put me right in the door zone, particularly on Sunset....which is why I really don't use them a lot of times. As long as no one does anything to endanger themselves or the rest of the pack, let em' ride on.
That last ride was a blast. Sure there was a flat and so on, we fix it and, go on. We all have a good time. Sure the dude didn't have a spare or tools but that's why help one another. I always keep tools but one ride I didn't have levers. I was in a panic. I had everything else but no levers!! Some dude from Whittier helped me out and I couldn't thank him enough. Richard's ankle was bugging him and Jude and Marcus stayed w/ him until Rich hopped on the bus while we all rode on. We all help each other out. We ride. We might bump heads time to time but we work it out and ride some more. Just look at the pic... Good times.
I'm glad you brought that up... I didn't mean the dude who had the flats; he helped you draft during the hustle down Venice. I was refering to people who complain all the time without contributing. You hitting Cub Scouts tomorrow?
digable al,
samhain is talking about me. we've clashed since day one because i called him on the following:
1. his sexist comments, which other riders were offeneded by (and not just carla)
2. his constant yelling at people and calling me a 'dumbass' because my stuff fell off my bike rack
i actually tried to defend him on the last ride because people thought he was acting like a big, big asshole. now i know better; he is an asshole.
Hey guys, you know whats funner than internet slander?...
no, not internet PORN...

TOMORROW - 9PM
MUNI'S LIQUOR
2022 Pacific Ave., Venice 90291 (@ the end of N. Venice Blvd, across from The Canal Club / James Beach)
Are you mad at the world? Is everyone fucked-up EXCEPT you? Well, nothing burns hate calories faster than going 25 mph DOWN THE EDGE OF THE CONTINENT!!!
Yes, this week's CUB PACK will blast down the beach path with unimaginable fury and insult-free hustle! Everyone's welcome of course, expecially if you know the path well...(GARY??)
Meet in the *little* parking lot in front of Muni's. If needed, park across the street in the *ginormous* lot.
I hope you still plan on going to the ride on thursday despite these latest--- developments. I know you and jude have some ill feelings towards each other, but the good news is that it's not something that can't be solved! Honestly though, you both just need to talk it over and put all the bad stuff behind you. Life's too short to quarrel over shit.
As far as your bag goes...you know, if you want I can throw it in my bag since I have a big ass messenger bag. That's what it's for. Plus, I don't trust your rack--- no matter how nice it may be.
The bike path will go there and back, making sure nobody gets ditched.
PS. Please note that tomorrow is the "Cub Scouts" test ride for the CUBPACK on the 12th. They both meet in the same place... Route test = Tuesday - Cubpack = Thursday.
Man... I really hate it when I get logged out of of the site when I'm writing a long response. I'll do the wordpad thing. I'll insert portions...
Annie vs. Jude - Just work things out. The last thing is to let your guy's issues make an awkward feeling on the upcoming rides. It'll all workout if you guys start from scratch. Hi... I'm Jude. Hi... I'm Annie. nice to meet you.
Annie - this whole weekend
Marcus - great Ride post. I was cracking up w/ the cub scout pic. Props for protecting that old lady. What a gentleman.
Jude - thanks for the donuts.
Brendan - I didn't know you were kyber. I was wondering who you were. Now I know...
BTW... no go for me tomorrow. Thursday for sure though.
Dan. I'll be going to Cubcamp on Thurs so if you're planning to go then... I can give you a lift back to the valley. I'll email you if anything comes up like if I'm not going but for sure I will. Your email on your profile is still good? Good...
Alright folks... gotta get some shut eye. Laters...
Annie... you had this song stuck in my head this whole weekend!! On Ride-Arc...every corner and stop I made... you were there... singing that song!! LMAO. The song "Hot In Herre" by Nelly did eventually replaced it.
I'll have my car there tomorrow (and Thursday); I'd be happy to give you a lift home to the valley afterward on both rides if you want.
Al, Suffice it to say there is no Annie vs. me; at least on this end. I finally defended myself after repeated public attacks, and as long as they stop (the public attacks, that is; if people want to slander me to your pals? Have fun) then I have nothing to say. I'll happily tell you the whole story on the ride if you want. You've ridden with me; I'll let the evidence stand.
Congrats to Marcus on the new fixie; with that thing, I'm guessing you're fast enough for wolfpack!
Thanks Samhain. If i make it out tonight, i'll probably end up taking you up on the offer. Digablesoul, thank you too, but I'm heading to NY for the weekend so i can't ride on thurs. Next week though.
EVERY TUESDAY= CUBSCOUTS = THE SCOUT RIDE - 9PM
EVERY THURSDAY = CUBPACK = THE ACTUAL RIDE - 9PM
This week "Venice On Down" will be a non-stop ride SOUTH down the beach path. Since less stops = faster = more mileage in same time amt, about 35-40miles. We'll see.
Tonight we're riding the beach path down south of Torrance... It's a fun ride and since we're doubling back, no rider will be left behind. Come see Marcus rock the new fixie! But as this is scouting, we're going to be looking for ideas along the way...
#4 VENICE ON DOWN
Venice to Palos Verdes to Venice: 31.2 mi
1-Highly recommended - LIGHTS!
2-Watch for sand-patches.
3-Less stopping/stalling, less obstacles; will build stamina.
4-Good ride to work on your style and techniques.
5-Wind could be major factor on Thursday, and you'll love it.
6-Bring a bright, handheld light and you'll likely see some booty on the beach (no stopping).
Warning: The high winds from today will cause drifts on the bike path. When I was riding this during the winter it would cause the path to be completely wiped out in some areas. Marcus, you may want to change the route to accomodate this. (Those parking lots we took should help in that area.) You may want to change the route entirely - Freestyle it yo!
I cannot make it tonight as I have to be at work and have a wicked case of the flu. I can still give Brassknuckle a lift after the ride. You have my phone number from our emails.
As much as I want to ride with you guys...I can't tonight. I told Annie that I'd be there, but I just can't blow plans for the only time I will be able to see a film by one of my friends--one of the DarkCen crew. So, I will be meeting the ride out to the Directors Guild from the Hollywood / Western Station at 6:15. Sorry. There will be other Cubcamps, but not another time for me to see this film.
Have fun tonight. Bring Legs and a windbreaker....
I just hope the wind dies down a bit. I don't know if any of you have been riding today but my commute home was downright difficult. I kept getting blown across the road and almost into oncoming traffic.
Even though the wind seems to be dying down, you will have a bitch of a time riding that route. There will be sand all over the path after winds like that and at some points I'm guessing that the path is going to disappear completely. I ride that bike path a lot and whenever you hit an unavoidable patch of deep sand, you start to lose control. Sure it doesn't hurt going down on the beach but it's a bitch getting all that sand in your bearings and chain. And worst of all, it slows you down. Also, if it's still windy down there, expect to get a mouthful and an eyeful which can be quite painful! So you'd better bring some goggles and a bandana just in case.
Man it's crazy windy in the valley... Yeah... I hope this dies down. Weather.com reports that winds are blowing from the W at 15 and gusts up to 25mph for Redondo Beach. I guess it'll be a good way to practice drafting... pacelining... This will be a bitch. Didn't think of sand in my face. In gears... sand sucks. The wind sucks. Like Jude said... improvise.... let's do this! Se ya'll there...
I'm gonna have to bail. I can't do 10 miles to the start of the ride, 30 miles of constant sandblasting to face and all over my new ride etc, and then another 10 miles back home.
See some of you tomorrow at the ride tomorrow, I'm sure.
is there going to be an alternate route? the sand and wind sounds pretty bad.
kyber, if you want to go email me at soundof78 at yahoo.
i'll ride with you there and back.
I realized what a puss I sounded like, so I hauled ass down to the meeting point but by the time I got there (915) it was too late. RIding into the wind must've added 5-10 mins to my time which made the difference between catching all of you, and not.
Hope the ride was good despite all of the crazy wind.

"so I hauled ass down to the meeting point but by the time I got there (915) it was too late" "Hope the ride was good despite all of the crazy wind."
Awww man... you must've just missed us then. It was a real sweet ride. No sand blasting to the face. Not too much sand on the path. There were patches and if you had no light then you had slow down but I had a good enough light and I still couldn't stay up front w/ the pack. I was like 20 secs behind the rest. I need to train more. The way back didn't seem too bad. We caught some headwind on the way back through Hermosa Beach. We had a total of 6 that showed and it was an awesome ride. I never went all the way down to Palos Verdes so it was cool experience for me. I saw bonfires at Dockwieler Beach which looks cool. We should do a ride down there where we all park our bikes and sit around a fire drinking beers... etc. Then ride back... On some turns though the bike path would blend in with the sand which wouldn't be a good thing. All in all... great ride everyone. See you guys at the MR ride. Lates!
bummed...how was it with the 6? i didnt realize how big an issue the wind was, looking at the posts on here. I guess you wouldnt be able to tell JUST BY RIDING AROUND VENICE! ironic that no scouts made it, but I hope you guys found the PV "Treasure" anyway, did you? good to see Franz alive and kicking. FRANZZ!!!
anyhoo, who wants the next route? Its the FIFTH Cubcamp, so its gotta be the toughest. i have a *tough* idea for it if no one wants to try one.
Yo marcus whats your idea? I really wanted to do some hilly stretches. Not the incredibly long and slow uphills but the quick up and downers. This has to be the most intense cubcamp yet! You game?
Was finally healed up enough to do cubpack, and it was damn hard and fun. Good ride last night, the headwind on the way back was rough. Here are the photos.
Franz... very nice pictures man... especially the shot of me and love handles... lol. Seriously... great shots bro!! Hilly rides? Man... that's going to be painful. I'm up for it!
that was such a fun ride! carla ate it and flew into the sand, and kieron and i both almost ate it at the same point. i loved yelling 'mush! mush!' when approaching fellow riders. and not being able to see which way the bike path curves, or whether or not the pile of sand ahead will knock you over, was thrilling!
thanks for the ride back, digable al!
Hey Al Just thinking about the PV ride once again thanks for saving me from the Flying Squirrel without a ground scheme I was about to pull... Hope your dog is feeling better .

CUBSCOUTS #5 - "HOW TO MAKE A MOLEHILL"
TUES_4.17.0_roll at 9pm SHARP!
BIKEROWAVE (NEW)
1816A Berkeley Street
Santa Monica, CA 90404
"CUBSCOUTS" is the weekly route-scouting ride every Tuesday before the Thursday "CUBCAMP". All CUB rides are fast-ride intended to train (or deter) riders for Wolfpack rides. Every fifth ride (this week is #5) is the most-difficult of a five-week cycle. 80% chance of spoke cards. Despite the lengthy route, please, no cannibalism until Scoutleaders eat first.
Here's an artist rendition of what could've happened. Thank God it didn't and I'm glad you're good. Nice seeing you on the Safety Ride on the way home. I was like, "Where the heck you come from?" My dog is feeling better this week.
So it's the 5th week and I'm yearning for a hard earned spoke card. I dug the hair Annie. You planning to bring it to the ride?
Ritchie.. Marcus (how's the flu?) So... you guys really doing this hill thing huh?
hey yall. how many miles you thinking for the thursday ride. i hope to make it out to accompany all of you.
thought i heard of a few fellers mentioning the cubscouts last night with the wolfpack. think a few of you represented well and were in the front the entire night.
IF YOU ARE RIDING CUBSCOUTS THIS WEEK
KNOW THAT THIS IS WEEK #5 (THE MOST DIFFICULT).
IT IS NOT AN EASY OR SAFE RIDE, FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS.
1-YOU WILL NEED LIGHTS, FOOD, SUPPLIES, TOOLS. PERIOD. THERE ARE TIMES WHERE YOU ARE 100% SELF-SUFFICIENT.
2-FIXED-GEAR BICYCLE RIDERS WILL NOT COMPLETE THE ROUTE ON THEIR FIXED-GEAR BICYCLE. PERIOD.
3-THE ROUTE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AT TIMES. WE ARE 100% NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS OR ANY DANGEROUS RIDES.
A-This route provides astounding rewards which are certainly earned. Everything you put into your riding will be returned many-fold. Remember this at tough times.
B-Don't be afraid to ask questions, this is only a heads-up and disclaimer. I love you guys and just want things clear!
C-This ride in itself is an achievement, the 5th Cubcamp. Yes, you'll get a Cubby Treat.
oh man... I'm gonna definitely get cell #'s cause I'm gonna be left behind by the sounds of it.
wolfpack... I know Richie rides the wolfpack but I don't who else does it. Man... In a month I'll be able to keep up w/ wolfpack if I work on the steady uphills. That's where I lose a lot of gas and I've gotta drop major poundage. Well... hope you make it and tomorrow will be a good test on my cycling skills. Lates.
franz, the interactive maps are often innacurate and, for some reason, tend to be maps of previous rides. strange, eh?
marcus, you're making me nervous. kieron's going to help fix my fickle bike today at bikerowave so i can attempt your monstrous hills. bastards!*$%!@!!!
iif anyone wants to ride at 7pm to hang out/get food near the bikerowave prior to the ride, meet me mid block on cresent heights, south of olympic and we'll take pico up. or call me.
CUBBIES. Marcus is NOT kidding. Although it's not the longest route we've done, it's a muscle punisher. The good news? the last third is an amazing downhill :D
Buckle up and get your ride on.
ALSO
NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE
it is SUPER HIGHLY DIDDEE DUPERLY recommended that you bring a light for your bike NOT ONLY to be visible but to light the path ahead. Most of the ride will be on badly lit streets. So PLEASE be prepared. Also, there are no gas stations or any other type of shelter-like places once we start the climb. So flat tires are SOL if you dont bring tools and repair supplies.
Man, my bike is not geared for climbing at all. Does anyone have the real route map?
I'll probably be at the bikerowave tonight as well and if theres time I'll fix my rear derailleur so I can actually use the big ring on my cassette with out it being ripped off.
i'd like to share a note of caution on the downhill portion. monday on the wolfpack ride a girl buckled her forks and went over her bars during a downhill and ended up in the hospital. i know we're going to have a blast, but please, PLEASE use caution.
can someone explain to me the physics of buckling? is it too steep of a decline coupled with speed, and too much body weight shifted to the front of the bike? what is the most common way that 'buckling a fork' occurs? i want to avoid this at all costs. thanks
I don't know too much on the buckling thing but I usually just stand up and get behind my seat... basically just keeping the weight on the rear. Man.. I hope that girl is alright. I've flown over the handle bars mtb'ing and it's no fun.... dirt is more forgiving than pavement.. so yeah... we'll proceed w/ caution.
al,
you stand up?! i thought you would want a lower center of gravity, so a crouching type body position, which i think might create less resistance, combined with shifting your ass back a bit would be ideal. but i'm just guessing.
any more ideas or suggestions? i don't want to eat it, unless it's food.
Yeah... I get off the saddle and just get behind it. Here's a pic but it's small. But you get the idea... you can clearly see the nose of the seat way up front of him. I learned from my 1st fall over the bars and always get back behind the saddle if I go fast downhill... or just going down period. I've never seen a fork buckle and don't want to see one. I've also had my share of road rash and it's sure not fun. Just get to the the bikeoven early and check out your brakes while you're at it. You'll be all good.
Okay...i've got an inkling that you guys would like to come out and join the badger song for a night.
Kyber
m.a.m.b.b.
digablesoul....etc.
Yeah! That would be great. We're an off night for you guys, no?
Come on out people. Bring the whole crew along. Oh, I can't wait! It would totally make me happy if you come out to ride with us. I can't speak for the the other Badger Song, but I will be making your ride as soon as I get an opening.
Have a good ride tonight!! Think: "HIlls....what hills?"
Hills.... Hills!!! All over the place!! Man riding through the Santa Monica Mountains onto Mulholland Dr. was crazy. Sepulveda Blvd. was the payoff and was an awesome downhill. Great route everyone and nice to see the new faces from Wolfpack ride with us. The views were great and I'm surely gonna sleep well tonight. Props to all you guys and girls tonight.
that was an insane amount of uphill riding! i really wanted to cry and almost gave up 3/4 of the way to the top, but someone's light was right behind me (kieron, possibly), so that motivated my ass to continue.
kieron: thanks for trying to fix my chain and brake.
alex and richie: thanks for the compliments! it really motivated me and kept my spirit up. (maybe i should put a cage on my pedals as suggested by tern.)
everyone did a great job and i loved suggesting the photo composition ideas at our 'photo shoot'. (franz: sorry i kept jumping the gun on the jumps.)
who and where were the wolfpack guys? did i miss them? i know richie does wolfpack, but who were the others?
Awesome Photos Franz! Is there a way to copy them from your link?
Looking forward to seeing you guys next week!
Al great fucking job man! I was really impressed. Annie, get some cages and you'll be leading the way. Carla, high on life keeps the ride going hahaha. Marcus. lol oh marcus. franz hows your knee and your cool new stick? Kieron thanks for the tea :D
I wish I could go with you Richie. I haven't been able to find anyone to go on that ride with me in the past. I've always done it solo. Will you be riding alone? Really--it is a fun fucking ride.
pre-cubcamp feast!!
if any cub is interested in having very good and very inexpensive indian food before the ride tonight, i will be riding to india sweets and spices at around 7pm and heading toward venice and bageley.
arrrooo!!
Man... I got off work too late and couldn't make it. I brought my bike and everything. So... when I got home.. I rode the river trail into Eagle Rock and though Brand.. then Glenoaks... (a mini wolfpack route) and pictured myself riding with you guys. *sniff* a cub seperated from its pack doesn't feel too good.
AL_you were absent, but not forgotten. I cant wait for you to see the pics...
K_Thanks for that route, that was fun to do in that order. Look forward to more of your planning skills...AND for keeping the pace high, nice riding man...2 beers to go..
ANNIE_WAY TO ROCK THE CUB SCOUT BADGE! lets get balloons bf tonight..?
EVERYONE ELSE_SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!
We didn't forget you Al. Sorry you missed out last night, there was pie, greasy food, and beer. I had to skip out on the former two in order to purchase the later with my emergency road money, priorities.
Mahalo Al, As you can tell by the way the pictures were ordered in the CP ^ 6 Ride you were the lost cub, and we wept much over you. I wrote a little llost cubbie find your way home note and Kieron left his number on it Glad to hear you went on your own ride.
We missed your traffic slicing whistle.
See you at CM tonight.
P.S to all the lost cubbies out their find your way back home we miss you and want to see you soon:
I sure missed out this last ride. Thanks for waiting. I feel bad that you guys had to wait. By the looks of the pics… the pack sure had fun. You were right on the pics Marcus. Great pics again Franz and to the others that got behind the lens. I was looking at the note Kata wrote (you and your pen!) and was wondering why Annie was underneath those bread trays/racks and I was like…, “OH Shiet! It says AL!!!” Can I use that pic for my myspace page… Franz? Freaking nice and creative of you guys. **Smiling** Annie… I’ll take up your offer of me eating your apple pie. My favorite! It’s nice to see the numbers staying strong… especially with the absence of our lost cubs.
Jude? Where you been? The lime green guy and his bud w/ the mustache. I suck at names. I still can’t believe Richie’s biking to San Diego. Oh and that dude that kept lime greens allen wrench. Oh and Garry! Chato’s!!
Alright all… See you tonight. Cash Race then Hollywood Ridazz! ARRRRrrooOOOOo!!
the above route sounds good. 2 things:
1-its a lot like week 3. That's cool but maybe something different there and back.
2-if you put a route out there, you gotta CubScout it! See you Tuesday!

completely off topic, but are there any mac saavy cubbies or folks who can help me save some files to an external destination from my faulty harddrive thats needs to be completely cleared/deleted/replaced? please, please help.
Well Annie technicaly I have the means and the knowledge to help you but then again, I'm also extremely lazy.
I need to know,
What kind of Mac?
What size drive you have?
I may have a few extra terrabytes for you to store your stuff on temporarily, but I also have a few regular externals and a 80gig pocket drive so let me know. I should be at the bikerowave tomorrow hopefully shooting an interior, but you never know, I may be killed at any moment.
!!ALSO!! for those of you cubbies who do not yet know Bikerowave has a forum so joinup eh.
What up homies and esas. j/p... Great route you guys put together and boy I wasn't expecting 30 miles tonight. The route was sick. KFC to Leimert Park... Crenshaw Plaza... to Exposition Park... down Manchester .... what was the Great Western Forum... and finally Randy's donuts... perfect. Unfortunately... my cassette started to get worse and thanks for hanging back w/ me Richie. Good turn out. Annie... where'd you go? Where are all our other peeps? If the ride moves to a Wednesday... then I can finally get a drink with you guys. Garry... wished you made it. It was a great ride.
Hey K.. can you post the route... gmaps... if you got it? I was lost down there and couldn't figure where I was. I'm trying to keep track of my rides... thanks in advance... and GREEEAT JOB everyone...
Great debut... well for me... of Richie's fixie and Kata's bike... saaweeet... Ok.. I'm sleepy.
Mahalo, Excellent ride K. I freakin LOVED it.... Great pace, not too many stops, insightful history, and a view outside of the "West Side/Hollywood area! I think Pico up was the most "I'm ready for bed but I'll keep pushing part of the ride because I want to get their".
Al, Great Job keeping up after your casette broke !
Shouts out to T.Bone: Hey Tony I will not make the Damn Damm ride because it's on the same night of Santa Monica Critical Mass...Maybe you can make the next ride on a date that doesn't coincide...The Pill Ride was awesome, it would be great to ride with you guys in SGV again. Hope you have a blast at the Damns tonight.
You are welcome to the Cubcamp Ride come Ride with us on Thursday Nights.
And to you Ms. Me n my Blue Bike I missed you..and Marcus hope you guys can make it to the next ride.
FRANZIE_yep, its safe. great pics again! lets talk about graphics soon..do you have pics from Saturday? i cant wait to see what happened after the liquors drunkened me...
EVERYONE_i cant make it to either ride this week. i will miss you all and will send my doppelganger if he's available. PS~I have the route for week#9 (CUBZZ GO TO SCHOOL). you can all get back to hating me then.
CUBCAMP PUBCRAMP TUBDAMP RUBLAMP
Here's a list of the landmarks/areas we passed by:
The future LACMTA Expo Line (hopefully), Baldwin Village aka The Jungle, Sherm Alley, Crenshaw Plaza, Leimert Park, the Black Dahlia crime scene, Babe & Ricky's Inn, Martin Luther King Jr. Park, Historic West Adams, USC, Exposition Park Rose Garden, LA Memorial Coliseum, The Natural History Museum & Science Center, The 40s, Santa Fe Railroad, Hyde Park, Hollywood Park, The Great Western Forum, Inglewood Park Cemetary, Randy's Donuts, Hillside Memorial Cemetary, Pann's and Fox Hills Mall
Great pics Franz! Especially my pic when I found out about the cassette... lol. Oh.. and thanks for the route and all the good info K. Man... my knees are bugging me. Like if it's got like a little swelling under my kneecap. You guys ever get that? I should post this on the other thread but thanks for the offer at bikerowave... I'm going to try bike oven just cause it's closer to me. I'll keep you posted on the happenings. Peace!
I saw you guys at Randy's Donuts last Thursday. (Tall, black guy named David remember?) I'm so glad this bicycle thing is catching on. Summer is going to be off the chain! Can someone please tell me when your next ride is?
Yo!! Umm... K... how fast are we going? Oh... btw... my cassette held up to the topanga ride last night. My knees feel odd cause I've been riding w/ my cleats pushed forward on my shoes. I should be good though... but me tired. Pe@ce!!
DigableAl - Time is of the essence! The pace will probably be as it has been lately. I know you'll be able to keep up so don't worry about it. Glad to hear there's been no drama with your cassette. Let's keep it that way.
I'm tired. I didn't know the westside was hilly. That ride through the cemetery was dope. What cemetery was what? Annie!! Freaking great surprise. You were a sight for sore eyes when I saw you at that ice cream/brownie/cookie place. Man... I felt like I could go another 30 miles... well at least back to the car. BTW... when you guys go to the bar... can you take your bikes in or do you lock in up outside?
Hey thanks for having me on the ride guys. sorry i couldn't keep up with you, i didn't realize how fast of a ride it really was. now i have incentive to train to go faster!!!
Who is Schmuck ?
Ari is this you....
You did a great job, and come join us sometime soon.
Oh he did it again: great ride Kieron !
And the Good News is NOBoDY Died.
Shouts out to everyone who came out for their first Cub Camp ride (Ari, and Antonio) hope to see you on Thursday. Good to have you back: Ryan and Brendan.

hey cubbies! i was glad i was able to at least meet you for the last leg of the ride, and for the most IMPORTANT part of this cemetary ride. i had to play dumb and indecisive so that my stalling time would allow you cubbies to hand over the dinero. i wanted to treat everyone as a double surprise, but i usually don't carry cashola.
so, since summer is approaching and i suggested it before on the beach/bike path ride, what about a day ride to the beach (malibu?) or an overnight camp and ride ride? eh? eh? what do you say, son?
toe clips are coming on soon... be afraid, suckas!
aarrrooooo!!!!!
Ok Annie. Week 10 Cubcamping... we're fucking doing it. Skidmarcus knows a place about 50 miles away...It should be an awesome Finale to the second 5 week cycle! All night fire, video cameras, and crackalackin!! WOO HOOOOO!!!!!
Suggestions and feedback please!

the place is in oxnard and its uber chill...
i have a tent that fits 2 or 3 medium-sized cubbies..
The sites cost like $40 or so, so probably $4-5 each. Its good to get the discussion going so we can do it right!

i suggest we leave around 12p, arrive around 3p-4p.
WOOOOOOOOT!
the issue off the bat is that theres no way it could be a thursday ride leaving at noon. Lets make it a weekend thing. I know that kieron is concerned about doing it with a truck or van following us for backup but at the same time, doing it with a small group of people will be great practice for our future events
I'm not saying to have a truck follow us, I'm just saying we could have a truck carry all our shit for us and meet us up there. Chris has a pick-up since he's a housepainter. Anyway, read my e-mails yo.
Holy smokes! Sounds great! One thing... I won't be making it tonight. Last night I broke a spoke on my rear wheel and then when I was taking off the rim tape... two other spokes just snapped!! I thought the whole wheel was gonna fall apart. First I've got to buy the spokes (there aren't any good shops near work). I get off at 8:20ishpm so all the bike places will be closed. And once I’ve replaced the spokes, I’ve got to true the wheel. No way I could do all that after work. Seems like I’m not gonna make it to class. Man… my attendance has been crappy lately. I like the ideas about joining badger song. I rode with a bunch of them during the last SGV ride (the Damn Ride) and they are a cool bunch. Alright all… be good in class!!
I fractured my thumb and I'll be out for a while. Everything else is good though. Thanks for the help, guys and sorry for the abrupt ending to what would have been a great ride.
"Thanks for the coolest visual memory of the year." SKIDMARCUS
What?? No way! Did you bust your thumb on Thursday... K? Any pictures? Spread the memories! But seriously... get well and see you soon.
BTW... Richie... those pics were amazing man. Looks like you're having fun out there.
So Week X is going to be a race of all Wilshire? Dang... that's gonna be fast. I feel so lazy being off my bike since Wed. I finally got my spokes fixed and I trued my wheel... and all by myself! I'm pretty stoked. Alright all..
Dig out!
Ha ha. Yeah, what an awesome ride.
K's PSA # 103 -- Watch where you're going!
I fractured my thumb and I'll be out for a while. Everything else is good though. Thanks for the help, guys and sorry for the abrupt ending to what would have been a great ride.
Just to clear things up Kenneth was the grand prize winner. I don't know who Brett is. I'm riding the Aids ride from SF to LA next week. Check out my website and donate what you can. I still need to raise about $800 before I leave. Thanks
We are going to demolish a fence and remember the good times.
We will eat barbecued stuff and talk all raw.
We will ride to a few Culver City art galleries and mob their free cubbietreatzz.
THIS IS A CRUNK CAMP EVENT
All CRUNK CAMP rides are fun-rides intended to deter riders from hanging themselves.
If you have a smart-mouth, a 40 oz, shameless sex appeal, AND a Fun Catcher, you will have no trouble keeping up.
Push harder, there's a freezer full of 40's. Sweaty rides don't matter, Loosen up.
I'll be there Marcus but I just woke up so I'll be late... also I don't have a hammer.
As for the race photos here they are Richie, I believe they were all taken by annie except the first one and the two you took. There is a good one of an exhausted Richie taken by Annie downtown.
Hey Marcus Your House Hammering was soO much fun !
Good call on Cinco De Mayo & the Cozy Inn
Harvells was fun also that woman with the blonde wig roCKs she was so intense .
I must say the best part of the night was the couch dance all five of us making the couch move syncronistically OOOOh Weeee !
I saw Jenn the next day and we were crking up.
Do the couch Dance hey.
Sleeping outside is REFRESHING.
Have fun with the 26 Budweisers- I think the lock might belong to my friend Lysandra the red haired girl.
Peace in the Middle East-
Till Thursday PPls.
Hey Shouts out to Kieron hope you come and say hi ! And most importantly that your thumb receives a wicked blast of magical healing from your body and the creator so you can come out and ride and so that it heals like a sturdy piece of Titanium. Solid and strong and ready to roll.
HOpe everyones doing great : good weekend.
Annie lady baby if you check your acct give me a call I want to hear about your BB camping trip ;)
Richie Kieron and I will not be in attendance this evening...
SOMEONE ELSE NEEDS TO HAVE THE ROUTE DOWN!
HONORARY SCOUT POSITION OPEN!!!
if needed, I can email to you the version I have...
MarcusGetsEmail@yahoo.com
yes, it's true and we might take a wrong turn on avenue of the stars because i didn't ride that route on tuesday.
someone bring a digicam because i'm still rolling on film. franzola??
see you skin-flute playing cubby losers next week. kkkitties: i hope your broken hand/fingers turn into 10 fuzzy kitties so they can add 10 kitty power to your ride!
wow, cub camp kicked my ass. made me realize how horribly out of shape i am. i had a great time though. thanks for leading annie. i'll definitely be back.
Is it just me... or did we ride a little faster this time? Could be me since I didn't make it out on the last two rides. Great job leading the way Annie. Thanks for the photos Jeff. I sure got my butt kicked last night. Great riding!!
Oh and Annie... While I was driving to work this morning... guess what song plays on my mp3 player? That song you guys were singing. It's by Barrington Levy - Here I Come. Cause I'm broader than Broadway! Just thought you'd want to know. Dang song was in my head on the ride back w/ Dan. Oh... and thanks for the company Dan. Don't know if I could've made it if I was by myself.
wondrous things that racks can do.... I have a Topeak MTX Explorer Rack and that sliding in action with the Topeak bags makes things so much easier. It doesn’t move or jiggle around. Keeps everything in place.
damn, my first cubcamp, and I get a fucking TICKET for making a left turn? WTF?
I didn't hear any tires screeching to a stop like the cop said.
neither did anyone else.
what a waste of time and resources to go to court. :(
ha! yeah, al. that's me looking as asian as i get!
by the way, great ride last thursday! great to see all the new faces and the speedy spandexers pushing us faster and harder. bummer about the dude who got the citation though, but great photos!
see everyone on tuesday and thursday!
Awww... that dog seems nice. I just adopted a dog myself but I'll keep and eye out if anyone wants one. How is it? Boy or Girl? Can you put your hand near it while it's eating and all that stuff. Thanks in advance...
those of you who live in the central la/hollywood area can meet near my place at crescent heights and olympic at 8:20-830pm on a regular basis (thursdays and tuesday), and we'll ride west on olympic to meet up with everyone at bikerowave on berkeley in santa monica.
Heya Richie! Crespin here! Great seeing you the other night. WHen are you going to be back on the East Side? I'm serious about a session. Probably best after Cubcamp, which some of Sins and Sprockets will be at ONE DAY! Hey, thanks for riding the AIDS Ride. You fuckin rock, even w/o the hair!
great ride as usual! new folks: keep coming out and try to stick it out if you can. it's exciting to see new faces. the no-stopping and sometimes-stopping at red lights situation and the indiscernable calling out of 'clears' seem to be a deterrent factor for some folks, which is understandable.
we improvised the last half of the ride and decided to head north toward downtown and ride over a couple bridges (suggested by matt).
we rode down sunset and i got pulled over and cited for 'taking over a lane and slowing traffic' while everyone else rode 'safely' next to the cars with doors that rhythmically flung open, as stripped button downs and tight skirts proudly stepped out onto the dishelvelled boulevard pavement. franz was threatened with a citation for being a wise-ass.
al, kieron, marcoooos, and richie: no cubbie treats for you!
It's that wonderful week-and-a-half between summer school and regular school... I can actually make this ride! I'll wait at Olympic and Crescent Heights until 20:30 or so. Just look for the Bianchi.
Where the hell did I get a Bass Ale, and how did you prop up Marcus, also where did brendon come from. So many questions that will go unanswerd from that night.
Like who exactly peed on that poor guy pushing a car up the hill over the 2?
Is Marcus still alive?
How did we end up in Eaglerock?
Did anyone get a good photograph of the bizzare 2 inch bump on my elbow?
Yeah, if I hadnt felt like I was constantly pounding my hand with a large blunt object and been worried about infection, I probably would have stayed longer...
ok cubbies,
let's rally a team for the WP all city team race on the 8th. east to the beach. i'm willing to represent for all you west-siders. Paul? Matt? Richie? Annie? Tonio?
skidmarcus!!! are you dead? cole and i saw you sleeping in your car under the bridge on boyle while we were riding on the la river ride. we were going to stop on the way back up and harass you, but you were long gone!
Great ride everyone. Now I'm tired. Man... I thought I was going to pass out over the hump in Culver City. LOL... all good cause I made it! I just never realized how important it is to eat while you ride. I'll have to read up on it more.
Great seeing the CubCakes in action. I love the pier shot.
You know what I was thinking. When we were on Santa Monica waiting by that bookstore..... we took off from the sidewalk to the street and these two guys were like, "What the hell!! GET OFF THE SIDEWALK!!" I couldn't help laughing and thinking that people hate it when we're on the street... sidewalk... sheesh. They just waited for 2 seconds and I signaled thanks to them and they still say stuff like that.
Oh… and that girl that was in the car with her mom that was flipping us off and screaming obscenities when we were making that left onto Sepulveda. What a potty mouth! Well… I just wanted to point out some things I noticed on the ride. Ride on!!! ARRRROOOoooo!
cubcakes!!! sorry you guys couldn't/didn't finish the route (ingrid's wanting to kick my butt after claiming first place in the drag race last saturday).
great to see new faces! kevin: great job!
antonio almost ate it going down the cahuenga pass and ryan almost got creamed by a car where the lanes merge.
fucking fun ride, though, but now my brakes are squeaky!!
aw hell, i knew that. this happened to my poor friend when she took it to the kitchen.
liability issues anyone?? anyone? hm? :)
she got it fixed yesterday courtesy of very excellent bike shop "Safety Cycles" on Western just south of Santa Monica blvd..... check 'em out!! they rocked!
i did want to add that the bikerowave looks awesome!!! keep up the great work!!!
Al! I've got a bunch of them. You must come on a Cubscout ride to earn one. But the trick is not just ANY Cubscout ride... I only hand them out on random rides.
OOoh ! I want one also. The CS ride last night was roughly intense. Annie, Marcus, Franz and Antonio you guys are keeping up a great pace. Hustle Hustle and Hustlin'.
Have fun @ LACMA the races and ride are going to be awesome.
I will be in : San Onofre famous for hosting 15000 people with electricity ie. power plant and for being one of the best surf spots in california.
So se you on Saturday ! :)
Hey all... Couple questions on the CC#14. Are you guys going to chill and stay at LACMA? For how long? If yes... this is a short/fast ride? and... if no RSVP and I have to wake up early tomorrow.... I can ride w/ you guys to LACMA and bike back to the start? I just need a little more details. Thank cubbies!!
Yeah, we will hang out there but its towards the end of the ride. its SUPER easy to rsvp, takes 40 seconds...do it! if not, its only 6miles to the start, and i bet someone will be heading out.
cool... it's about 8 miles out to LACMA and I was reading that RSVP was closed on the LACMA: Late night forum. I'll end up leaving when you guys lock up. Looks like fun! Oh... woohooo.... we hit 300 posts!!!
From the looks of this... looks like molehills part two. I thought two weeks ago... sepulveda over to the valley then cahuenga pass was the tough one? I'm gonna sit this one out so you guys have a good ride. So who's representing on the All City Team Race? I'll set up a tent and give masages to the cubbies at the end of the race. Oooh yeah...
Dang that's pretty crazy. I know we tried a little of that a couple weeks back when we went over to Sherman Oaks and went down Ventura Blvd. That was definitely cool but I have a fear of not being able to see in front of me when lining up but I guess that's why people call things out.
Well cubbies... have fun on tonights ride. I broke a spoke on SFV critical mass and totally jacked up my wheel. I replaced the spoke but the wheel is all warped out. I'll be working on it tonight. Have fun!!
Anybody know if tonight's Cubcamp is going anywhere near downtown? I was thinking I'd start w/ you guys at Bikerowave and then break off downtown to go home. Thanxxx.
Your concern for not seeing is totally valid. That is why it is the responsibility of the point person to watch for the group. You have to trust that that point person has your safety in mind when going to intersections and traffic etc.
This is also why we have to ride together to develop the trust. IT comes in time.
This is also why people get shit for not being safe and responsible at point. Who don't think of the group dynamic... Very important.
Thus called a team.
hey all, it's me adrian. i haven't ridden in a pack in so long. hope to come out this week. hey i wanted to ask for some help. i got a fixie, but am trying to learn how to skid. anyone know how?
it's incredibly sketchy. friend says lean forward and lock up the legs. and that just sound intimidating.
Okay, I'm back in business. I just started up internet access again.
I really liked riding with you guys last week. Unfortunately I work Tuesday and Thursday nights until the end of summer school session. But, on the bright side, summer school ends in three weeks.
Congratulations Annie, Richie, et al. I am proud of you!
Hey how do I become a member of the 'Lemon Brigade'?
I miss you guys... My doctor says no bike riding until August 11th... So I'll just lurk online and fatter... Stay upright or end up like me (and I had insurance!)
I couldn't make it out to see the finish, but big props and congrats on the 3rd place, that's awesome. I hope the fall wasn't too bad Annie. You guys rock. I'll be out there on Thursday, I'm looking forward to hearing about the race and having a good ride.
cubbies are getting some pressure from the wolfies to grow up...
cole: settle down, doggie! i need to invest in a full body suit to avoid future road rash.
wolfrider: i'm fine. lots of neosporin and a special salve that my herbalogist friend up in sf made for me. it miraculously allowed my body to skip the bruising process. i did make the mistake of wearing a sleeved shirt last night and managed to rip of some skin and dried oozage from my should. yeooowch!
I may join you guys one of these days, I've been riding with the wolfpack for about a month now, I've been meaning to get to know the streets of the westside.
I was looking forward to making it out for both Tuesday and Thursday this week, but alas I think I finally pushed my physical limit, doing to many long rides without rest days. My legs are sore and really stiff. I'm still riding to and from work, but it's a short ride and I'm taking it easy. No way I can keep the "banshee" pace as that one dude described us on Tuesday. Have fun out there.
^^^ THATS A SPICY ROUTE!!! ^^^
Four Things:
1-You're nuts.
2-You're nuts, dude.
3-The length in time is also to be considered. This ride I would approximate at least a 1:30am return, if all goes well.
4-How are those mountain streets at night? I am pretty sure from DRIVING it at night that we'll get destroyed on Topanga Cyn. I dont know though, anyone else ridden that?
I feel that one or two people may actually perish on that route. I too wish to go down a canyon road, but perhaps if we could cut the mileage down considering how hellish the hills are it could possibly be concievable that all of the brave cubz would make it through.
wow... things have changed since i've busted my rear wheel. Talk about a route. Makes molehills look like if you were going up Fairfax.
Annie-
Nice... so how was it riding wolfpack? Compared to Cubcamp now? I know you guys got faster. Oh... and do people still get left behind? I mean... is it already known that WP is a fast ride so people don't try anymore and all you see is the regulars?
i'd say there almost comparable except that because wp has so many more riders. it's easy to catch a nice draft. the buzz of the tires like a swarm of bees, was hypnotic.
i took a wrong turn with a couple others, but never got left behind. i don't think anyone got left behind. it was a really great, cohesive ride.
i was cursing them to hell at first because we immediately rode up to the observatory. i was pissed... you know how i hate hills.
al: get back in the saddle!
People coming thus far:
Marcus
Richie
Karla
Gary
Franz
Ryan
Annie?
Alex?
Assets:
Three lbs of pasta
two large pots
1 jar of sauce
6 large bottles of Franz's homebrewed Hefeweizen
1 bottle of Sideshow Syrah/Malbec
1.5 lbs of ground turkey
4 spicy italian chicken sausages
Needed:
2 bags of Mozzarella
2 more jars of Sauce
Garlic Bread
Are any of you vegetarian/vegan? Karla I'm looking at you.
This is totally sweet. The Cub Camp family dinner just makes me feel soo, cozy inside the same way the papa bear felt when he walked into the humans home and found warmth, blankets, and porridge. Aaaaw, good looking out Franzy.
So I believe Richie and Karla are bringing a jar of sauce each, Marcus is bringing Mushrooms and Asparagus. Which means all we need is the cheese and the bread, and of course extra beer. So everyone else get on that, let me know what you are bringing, I'm going to start cooking at 7ish so if you want in on that part get here at 7.
Whoever was involved with messing with my phone yesterday I want a few words with. I would have much rather woken up with fucked up sharpie drawings all over my body then finding out what you guys did with my phone.
Sorry to come off negative right off the bat with my last message. I was feeling grateful for the evening, it was good food and fun, loved those mushrooms especially. I wish I could have stayed longer.
I have some angry things to say though, which is rare for me, but I'll keep it off the public forum.
If it helps, the cubcamp myspace inbox welcomes all venting and verbal abuse :) please feel free to message and we will help in every way possible.
http://www.myspace.com/cubpack
I hope that whatever was done to your phone didn't have to do with calls to australia, or mars for that matter. I'm broke, but i'll be broker for a cubby brother.
i'm back, bitches! the michoacán tequila left me slow, but the rest of the food might give me a little kris kross power. in any case i'm reddy to be em-bare-assed by all y'all that have been ridin hard for the last two weeks, while i was of waxing philosophical in mexico and gaying it up in SF. i did take the wolfpack sprint last week, so i'm not totally dead--no matter how blasted, i can't wait to ride tonight...aROO ROO.
i'll be sure to bring my dookie chains and 4-finga rings
The Cub Family dinner was great by the way I never posted anything on it today,
Thanks to Jude for bringing all that beer, the bread, cheese, and everything else he brought, Richie for the sauce and speakers, Marcus for the Asparagus and Mushrooms, Gary for the bread, and Diana for the Sweet potatoes, Alex-bred. and a big thank you goes out to me for doing all the damn dishes... or at least I will eventually.
Next Cub Dinner, Richie and Karla's house, two weeks probably.
Diner at our house for sure Franzy.
Kongrats on your new place it seems like a very chills spot, and excuse my poopyness" yes Poopyness as far as leaving early. Taking intensive courses during the summer must I admit does require extreme attentiveness, concentration, and Focus so I had to get some sort of zzzZzz's before passing out in class and getting woken up by the "slap of a ruler".
PV = Palos Verdes
We did that route on Week 3 or 4, minus the hills at the end. I am totally down to do it againaandagainandagain!!! PERHAPS THE WEEK AFTER NEXT??
my legs look so sexy after hills like that. good ride 20, and everyone who didn't come you missed out. marcus created some of the greatest (perhaps most expensive) spoke cards ever. recap; david has a new hip bike, annie is tired, kata is fast, kieron late, richie sick, and I forgot to apologize to gary, next time gary, next time.
Excellent job on planning this route I absolutely love it because I feel born again. Yes, it sounds like a Christian at church but it's me smiling at our colaborative effort in making each other sweat by pushing and pedaling harder. Thanks for the compliment Fanz, Surf in the morning Pedal at night :) Marcus thanks a lot for the special deal with the spoke card. You really made my night because it's one my favorite thusfar. Gary mi dear Cabby rabby I missed you, I would have loved to see you driving around- - next time. Al where are you I only see you in pictures now did you ever get around to fixing that spoke I know you like riding with us get your helmet out pronto. And the cherry on top "Sunshine" I will have to eat it later.
See you all Manana or Today that is. Just later on during the day.....
Richie, hope you get well soon.
My EZ-1 won't be good enough for this.
Despite the status as a "recumbent", this thing is more of a cargo/heavy cruiser when it comes to the line.
I maintain about 15-18mph while on flats.
Downhill is warpspeed and uphill is doable, but I'll get smoked anyway. The 20" rear and 16"front doesn't really help either.
I'll instead look into using my mtb with street tires and minimal utility equipment(rack, bags, etc,.)
Now that's a climber.
Hey guys, I forgot that I'm going to San Diego this week on a business trip for the Siggraph computer graphics conference. Unfortunately the timing works out that I have to leave San Diego for a flight I had already booked for visiting relatives, just as the Hawaiian Zombie ride will be rolling down there. Oh well. I'll see you guys next week, have fun on the rides and the carb loading on wednesday. Also thanks for hosting the party on Saturday Annie, good times.
My Culinary Advisor and I have devised a delectable dish for the dinner date. The Cub's Resident Genius (me) will hook up the pasta's main course. Richie what kind do you have?
Hey, I'm watching my friends' place while they're in china. Amenities include:
Pool
Hot tub
3 bathrooms
yard
2 labrodors and one Scottish Terrier
Shit loads of easy parking right out front
dishwasher
DirecTV with plasma TV...
etc...
Skid/Richie, this is right by my house and where you work what do you think?
Just in case there are any Macrobiotists or Raw Foodist Vegans we got you covered. So, I'm sure there will be very few reasons not to come and enjoy this wholesomely Cub Sponsered Meal.
props, cheers, horray. Another great time. Thanks all for the food, art, music and good times.. and a big poo poo to the neighbor who told us to stop having fun, like, what gives man!
Don't forget Eric he crashed on the way down, although he didn't crash catostrophicly like us. Poor Susan she just wont shift I don't know what to do, Bikerowave is closed tomorrow.
Listen here all you nay-sayers. There was definitely a phantom runner on the beach path, and I definitely saved him from staying in purgatory for much longer... granted took a little trip to the beach, but to save a wandering soul I think it evens out quite well...
Just wanted to thank you everyone for a great ride. I found some more sand in my left ear this morning and thought about you guys. It must have been pretty far up there. Anyway, bike's now been cleaned and re-greased and my right shoulder almost recovered after huge doses of Advil, Beer, and Ice. Looking forward to more like it without the paceline tumbling act.
I took my broken shifter apart and besides finding out how amazingly complex STI shifters are I also saw how much sand can find it'sway into those things. I'm pretty sure all the sand will never come out of the one shifter that made it out alive. Luckily I got my fathers old Univega runnning tonight.
SteveO my first cub ride was the same route we took, week 4. I was way behind, if you keep riding with the cubs you'll be amazed at how much faster you get.
Actually, i guess i felt left out from you guys the other night, because Saturday morning i took my own spill off my bike coming down Mandeville at 25 mph or so. Tore up my left elbow and arm as well as the shifters and wheels. Bike is being sorted at Helens. Expect to get it back this weekend or Monday the latest. Will definitely come out again sometime.
Thanks. I'll be fine and i didn't snap any pix although i did briefly consider it. It coulda been alot worse. Now i feel like a veteran...a slow veteran...
This might just be the most eventful night in cubcamp history.
Our visit with the casino -
Edwin the security guard was not there to meet us like planned. And apparently the guards didn't like that we rode into the casino, then out, then up to the top of the rotunda and took the freight elevator down where the guards met us on the second floor with unhappy faces. We were escorted to a line of guards including the Douche bag chief of security. Mind you they all had guns, so sprinting wasn't quite an option. We left our bikes there and were brought into the casinos security office where our mugshots were taken and we were banned from Hollywood Park Casino FOR LIFE!!!!! DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chief : "Now, 3 times is a lucky Charm...I dont' like Tresspassers"
David: "And i don't like Dickheads"
Chief: "What did you say"
David: "I don't like to be threatened"
PWNEEEDDD
So to top this, since this weeks ride is SmellLA, we call out all the distinct smells. On Crenshaw and Jefferson we were overwhelmed with the smell of PASTRIES. Of course, PaulyD's nostril went a'flaring and we made our way to the back gate intercom...
"Um hello? We're a bicycling team and we're hungry...Can we have some Pastries"
The gate opened magically and we talked to the head pancho who didn't have any donuts because they were made to order but he had some french bread which would definitely quench our taste buds. We were ready for 5 pieces of bread when he came out with a paper bag full of croissants and muffins. He declined our money.
Whilst the muffin munching was going on, police flashed us with lights. A few minutes later they are arresting a guy on a bicycle who they were looking for. It was funny seeing the cops try and get the bike into the trunk....It wouldn't fit, and the trunk wouldn't close. If they had only asked our assistance we totally could have taken the wheels off for a 'get out of jail free' card or 5.
Either way, this night saw the best and worst of people. THANKS CUBBIEZ!
Whoa... you guys mugshots and being banned. What a crazy night. I saw the pics of Annie on the floor... for some reason I thought that was from last night. I was gonna say... I'm gonna try to make it out for a cubscout ride. S&S tonight? Peace!!
I'm going to join Team 100. Been riding Sundays and Tuesday morning's with Shifting Gears (Team 100 came out of there). The rides def haven't been as intense as your rides... but you can choose to run with the front of the group and have a more aggressive ride or hang back and work on the pace.
The Wednesday Cubz dinner is at my place this time around. Cross street is 18th & Michigan in Santa Monica, not very far from the Bikerowave. I'll post more specific information on how to find my place (it's kind of tucked away). Is 8:00 good for everyone?
If you couldn't make it out to the Tofu Festival, but still want to show some tofu love, I'll give out remaining tofu spoke cards to anyone who prepares a dish incorporating tofu, and or another soy food. It must be in a somewhat significant way, putting soy sauce on something doesn't count.
Hey Gary does the dish have to be edible ? I think I have some old Tofu I never used, maybe I can use it ? That way I can get a Tofu Festival spoke Card. What do you say Y/ N Tofu on Wed. it is !
Seeing as tofu smells extremely funky when it finally goes bad, if you can't put your nose near it and take 3 deep breathes without flinching or passing out, then no it doesn't count. Fresh tofu is happy tofu :)
If you can possibly do it without going through them or giving them an opportunity to grab you, sprint next time. It is superly majorly illegal to shoot somebody who is trying to flee from you, no matter how shiny your fake-ass rent-a-cop badge looks. And they know it. It's in their training. Sprint!
Good luck with the cooking, just believe in your self. Like that little cartoon train. If a cartoon train can cook, then any body can. Watch Ratatouille for inspiration if you haven't seen it yet. About announcing it, did you mean in the ride column, or through the Cubz myspace?

Wednesday 8:00 pm
Gary's place:
1811 18th St. Apt. B
Santa Monica
We can park bikes on my deck, if you are driving, you will need to find street parking. There are residential only signs, but they are only enforced before 8:00, so any where near by should be fine.
Seriously the best tasting Cub Dinner YET! WOWZERS!!!
Great cooking Gary! Awesome assistance Skiddy, Crow, and the rest of you fluffernutters that i didn't see cookin. I bitched out and didn't even try cooking. It's probably for the best anyway. Nice beer! Awesome Dessert! YEAHHHHHH MOOOooo
Thanks everyone for making this night OH SO enjoyable!!!!
:D
btw Pretty Ricky comes back SATURDAY!!! WOO HOOO!!!!
mabo was the best, second to the mud pie! thanks steve0!
slow-mo dancing to 'johnny angel' was the highlight of my evening. and what was cole implying by following up with the revenge of the nerds theme song? and e-rock, what was that strange gulp-laugh sound you were making during that song? ahhhhhh!!!!
I'm still full this morning, that was quite a meal. Thanks to everyone who pitched in, and I'm glad we ended up with a side of zucchini, one of my favorite green veggies. Props also to the fellow tofu bringers, keeping the spirit of tofu alive. That was a pretty fire Rich, and it also goes to show how bad ass George Washington is. I think that dollar is still spendable, although it reeks of cheap cologne smell.
Always a good time with the fellow cubbies. Perhaps, I might have been incorrect on my assessment of the cologne bottle's integrity, but then again it was cheep cologne, so I blame it on faulty manufacturing, all the cologne bottles I've burned in the past (zero) have lasted much longer than that before imploding. Luckily no one was injured, aside from my ego.. *tear
annie - i have no idea where that noise came from, probably the bowels of hell...
they wait in the bushes i tell you...IN THE BUSHES!!!!!
Marcus, trim them.
Great fuckin ride...awesome pace THANKS for keepin us going faster Chris! Awesome fixie ridin Doug and SPOOK. Jude, No pint for you! Marcus is a beast. And WOOT Gary's Cameo!!! and fuck, gary. sprintin mofukka!
Awesome freaking ride last night. LAX was great, I can't believe how ambivalent the guards and police were about us. That hill was a blast, "Pumping power, by the hour, SPEEEEED!!!" Bonus points if anyone knows that film reference. Can't wait to see how that video footage came out. Good ride everyone, and hope to see you at the Dark Century Marcus.
Finally got around to grabbing these pics from my camera and sharing them. Cubcamp #20 - Victory Lapse. Remember that? Ahhh... such fond sweaty memories.
I hope you cubbies are out sweating your paws off right now.
Erm, yeah, so, Jude has personally invited me to come ride with the Cubs one of these days. However, I may not be able to make it until the week after next. That will be the first ride in a five-week cycle, right? If so, do you guise still ride it at a fairly brisk pace? I like brisk paces. And is there any particular reason why I might want to show up on the Tuesday scout rather than the Thursday official ride, or vice versa?
Scouting tends to be only a few people but is usually a little faster; also, CubScouts starts at 8pm rather than 9. That said, by thursday the kinks are usually worked out. We had a fixie rider tonight (who basically SMOKED everybody up to the top of Elysian Park) and he was more than fine. If the majority of the group tonight comes back, any Cub ride will be a blast. I'll be sure to be there week after next. Whichever one you want to hit let me know.
PS> We had such a great ride tonight and got ZERO photos out of it; DANG!
PPS> Thanks to Gary for the drive by in his cab on Hollywood Blvd and Annie coming by our first taco truck stop.
Nothing like burning a couple thousand calories and then stuffing your face with food. Awesome. Great ride everyone, lots of new people and all able to keep a good pace. Cubcamp!
hey skidmarcus-
is that a bink pike yr ridin there? super-duper sexarific. you know...i like guys in pink. wait, you already have a tongue in your ear to prove that. (nice pic K, the expression there is priceless). i'll see y'all next week (is that 4 or 5?) as my crash on mon. still had me a little stiff.
arooooo!
Limeyfly: You should have no trouble keeping up in that bitchin' chopper of yours. Do you have a camera on it? You should film a Cubcamp ride from the bird's eye all high-speed chase style.
Still kind of getting hang of how the GPS thing works. Distance was missing because I turned it off at Tang's to conserve power, I had forgotten to charge it up beforehand. Then when turning it back on I forgot to hit the button to resume recording. Anyways, here is the ride report up to Tangs.

Yeah well I thought about iut LOL The CHOPPER that is--->
I want to film one of the rides maybe the MR trouble is I liket o be in the pack. Also you usually have some local 'old bill' lurking in the skies. 400feet is pushing it legally but it would be cool to film one!!!
Here's the ride report from the H.EAR.LA ride. I was still kind of mixing things up with start and stop recording then, so I think a few riding to work miles are on there, which is why there are 13 hours of rest time reported. I think the route looks kind of like a lumpy dinosaur...
SEVEN new people last night, ELEVEN total!! excellent turnout and nice pace. yeah, "nice pace" on wolfing yalls tacozz, too!!!
my good friend EVAN rolled through and caught this one. He had just rolled 650 miles from PORTLAND TO SF - on a fixie !! SKIDMARXXX
Jude - nice planning, thanks for stepping in and its awesome to have you back!
It was like cameo night...
_thanks for the paparazzi-love STEVE-O!! it gave us (who recognized you) a boost right then and there--
_Lauren and Annie taco cameo...

This dinner is also a "media piracy extravaganza", so if you want to get a lot of free mp3's, dvd's, etc please bring something close to what you'd like to trade for. CD's, DVD's, Hard drives, laptops, etc.
Post here if you are coming and how many guests so we know how much slop goes in the trough.
You should also post here if you will be soooooo angry if there is no meat in the main meal. Will it be a hassle to have people bring meat appetizers if they want to consume the flesh?
yes, i will be there to annoy the shiit out of everyone with the simulated car horn sounds from my melodica. uptight gilrs and boys with sensitive ears and nerves, everywhere: beware.
meowiezz, what a feast..
First off~ some one was noted as saying "Those lentil burgers were so good, I want to kiss BRad on the mouth!". Enough said.
Thanks to everyone that brought stuff, including their empty, cub-hydrate-loving tummiezz. Hope youre still full....
Second~ I liked The Media Piracy Extravaganza, lets keep that going. Maybe dvd's next time so we don't have to stick around for copy/ripping time...
(continued on the 5th week thread)...
...
I could just live off of those lentil patties.. so superbly delicious with their juicy flavors, and granular texture. Thanks BRad, for food so good, it's hard resisting the urge to make love to it. Thanks for hosting Marcus, and everyone else who came, and sharing nap time on the rug after suffering from lentil stuf!@#$?e. It will make excellent fuel for whatever 5th week madness Skid has come up with for this evening.
I was fine, but I think my body is adapted to processing lots of vegetable protein. Not sure why all the crazy characters happened in my last post, was just writing about being stuffed.
Y'all have gotten so much faster since I rode Cub Camp V; you all worked really well together as a group too - it was obvious you've been riding together a lot. I was fucking beat when I got home @ 3:30, and the next day I was about 3mph slower riding around town. Spaghetti legs! Kick ass ride, especially LAX. I'll ride again soon.
I'll be there for sure and Richie, i think i am going to be shooting in San Berdoo next Wed so can't host the dinner. I should know today(ish) or tomorrow.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to ride tonight. Last night my rear deraileur broke off into my wheel and I've been stuck in venice ever since. I'm going to try to get up to the bikerowave but even if I get there I still probably won't have a bike to ride. I'll figure somthing out.
Although i wasn't able to ride at the last minute due to my derailleur being on the fritz, i was able to come out and show support by taking a couple of pix. I'm sure Richie or someone will explain the theme for this series of rides but it looked like fun. I'll try again next week.
fkyeah..another one for the history books...
you guys really went bananazz...
the hustle
the screams
the chicken-coo
the noodles in your ice cream
and the potassium.
Here's the link for that game, BOND, that my friend does I was telling some of you about. I went to it last night, I was bummed it was the same time as crank mob, but it was loads of fun. Turn out was about 40ish people. All this cycling made me able to run faster and longer then I have done before, but my legs weren't used to the high impact abuse of sprinting on foot. My legs are more sore today then after riding a 100 miles on bike. There was something very satisfying about running through dark residential areas dressed in black, and then dodging behind trash cans and between parked cars when you think you're about to get spotted.
Great ride, hope every one got a sufficient amount of death. Unfortunate that we had a couple tube fatalities, but now you can impress your friends with random knowledge on the whereabouts of the rich, famous, and no longer living. If you would like to inquire further, most of the info I collected was from http://www.hollywood-underground.com and wikipedia articles on individual cemeteries. Will upload the post ride report and route tomorrow.
Post Ride Report:
http://allsportgps.com/Data/ActivityDisplay.aspx?tripId=105473
I'll post some more info on some of the cemeteries and dead people we passed by when I get some time. Why? Because I'm a nerd who loves that Ride-Arc educational riding style. Exercise the mind and body, and fire up some neurons with your workout whoooo!
Scout ride was Tuesday as always. About the Bikerowave sinking, elevation data is not 100% accurate due to the incompleteness of geographical survey information. The fancier GPS units have an altimeter built in, which it compares with survey data to produce more accurate information as well as realtime grade %.

More Details to be Announced: Will be themed with rules like a video game but you've got get off your ass and ride, FAST!!! Pumping Power, by the Hour, SPEED!!! Nutritionally satisfying prizes for the winners to aid in their muscle recovery!
Same bat time, same bat channel. (Thursday 9pm @ Bikerowave)
cubbiezzzz... in my now semi weekly process of having to go in and edit SKID's long ride titles that unfortunately distort the design of this website, I accidently deleted both the franz ride and the cubcamp ride.... my bad, you will have to re-post. butt just a reminder, please do me a favor, just one favor, and that is to not use loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong
lines that dont have spaces. they break the design of this fragile coded site..... much appreciated!
Fixed the ride title to include spaces, sorry didn't know about that. Yeah we should totally do something after the ride to celebrate the Franz birthing day. Glad you guys liked the flier, I had a lot of fun working on it.
Yes it is a week 4 ride, and I'll post some more details on the nature of the ride tonight. Mileage is lower then last week, but bring your racing legzz, it's going to be a night of speed. Mini races with cumulative scoring to determine winners. Nutritionally satisfying prizes for the winners, and heading out to celebrate Franz's birthday after the ride.
More information would be appreciated.
Will these "races" require knowledge of the surrounding area and streets? I'm up for a challenge, but being from the other side of the hill, I will be at a bit of a disadvantage.
Regardless, it sounds like fun.
I'll get the full low down on it all posted tonight, I'm at work and haven't had time to write it all out, and I'm preparing a complete map with racing locations highlighted and all that. Races will be about speed, and locations were chosen that are relatively straight and with few traffic lights. Navigational skills not really nessisary, and much of it will be in the LAX surounding area. This area has some long stretches of buttery smooth road with bike lanes and wide shoulders.
Okay, as promised, here are the full ride details. Sorry if it's a little long, it's a multi stage race with scoring, but it will all make sense, hopefully. Will be explained at ride start as well.
During the course of the ride there are designated stretches that will be competitive sprints, and we will be stopping at the beginning to do a simultaneous start and taking a breather at the end of the sprint before continuing. People willing to do so, will at the beginning of the ride, place their name into a pool, which will be drawn from at the beginning of each sprint. The chosen one shall adorn the police uniform and be the chaser for the sprint. All other riders will be considered criminals.
Criminals will be awarded fake moneyzzz for getting to the destination in the top 3, with $300 going to 1st, $200 to 2nd, and $100 going to third. However the person chosen as the cop can put a stop to this by placing before the criminals. However they will be starting the sprint at a 10-15 second disadvantage depending on the length of sprint. If the cop gets there first he or she gets a $500 bounty, no criminals get any money and they all have to do 5 push ups for punishment. If the cop gets second, second and third criminals get nothing, and the cop receives a $250 bounty. All criminals except first place do 5 push ups. If the cop gets third she or he gets a $100 bounty, third place criminal gets the shaft, and all but first and second place have to do 5 push ups. If the cop does not rank in the top 3, the cop is demoted and money is taken out of their paycheck. Cop gets subtracted $50. A successful win as the cop can quickly turn the tables in the competition due to the high jack pot, and depriving other competitors from scoring.
At the end, all moneys will be tallied up and 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place we will win nutritionally satisfying prizes. Spoke cards based on the flier for the winners as well, though may not have them ready on Thursday, in which case they will be handed out later.
So bring your legzz and get ready for SPEEeeeEED!!
Check out the map, which outlines where sprints are and their distance. Keep in mind that there are multiple races, some have nice chill breaks in between, and some do not, and they vary in length and difficulty. This is about speed, but pacing your self is part of the strategy as well. Most of these sprints are slightly downhill or flat, but the final race up Ocean Park is almost all up hill. There is also a cruise up the beach bike path for a little break, headlights recommended.
Great ride all, way to show your hustle muscle. Congrats to Franz with 1650 points for the overall win, with the birthday powered legs of steel. Second place was my self with 1600 points, and Alec with 600 for third. Congrats to K for the last place win, with negative 50, Woot!
Thanks for helping judge the finishes on your motor cycle Richie, that helped out a lot. I hope we satisfied those Dutch girls search for "real" Americans, with the culture clash at Ralphs.
Big props to the LA Department of Water & Power for the black out at Cinco de Mayo, painting with our bike lights in the middle of the street was an awesome expression of our collective consciousness. Surprised we didn't see any car accidents with all those people blowing through the unlit intersection without slowing down. Can't wait to see the pics from our Bicycle Light Ensemble!
The pix of the bicycle light ensemble are amazing.
I've seen light drawing photos before but yours are the sexiest I've ever seen.
Good job. Esp for westsidazz ;-)
I have never laughed like I did last night. Thanks Cubs.
My legs were gone by the end of the ride. Thanks Gary.
Food tastes sooo good after rides like this.
yay Cinco de Mayo!
CubCake!!!!
There were push-ups involved and I didn't know?!?
That's alright, I put 40 on the Hummer last night trying to scout an alt. route from Lathrop, CA to Tracy, CA, didn't find one.
Then I rode to the gym in Manteca for more muscle-tearing fun.
Now I'm currently underway to Cleveland as mentioned earlier.
I'm still going to make it out to one of these, riding my Hummer on the first one I do.
Just to be a bad-ass.
TONIGHT'S CUBCAMP HAS BEEN HIJACKED BY THE FLU!
Tonight's "entertainment" has been cancelled, and I will not be able to plan or ride the scheduled ride!
So what does that mean?
...what does that mean?!!!
CUBCAMP#30 - NO RULES!
DO WTF YOU WANT!
AND I MEANT THIS, TAKE THIS RIDE OVER! EVERY WEEK FIVE HAS BEEN OVER 45MILES AND HAD SPOKE CARDS....INCLUDING THE SENSELESS RIDE WHICH ARE STILL ON THEIR WAY!
AINT NO PARTY LIKE AN INDEPENDENT PARTY CUZ AN INDEPENDENT PARTY DON'T STOP!
HAVE A GOOD RIDE TONIGHT!
Here's how it works:
During the cubscouts, we will write the scene that will take place at each stop along the route. As the weeks go on, the scenes, the laughter, the drama, the intensity, and the ACTION will intensify.
So come one, come all, to the movie making crew on WHEELS
Richie, I have this weird mounting device I made years back for mounting cameras to things. It would work great with a lighter camera than mine. Right now, the steel flexes too much and would be too shaky over the road.
I was thinking, If we could find an old steel threadless stem (doubtful) or even bars from the Bikerowave, we might be about to weld a mount onto it. The ideas I have going right now are making my brain explode.
The 5+1 idea is for this week only, that the ride could ride together for 5-10 miles or so and then split into 2 rides, one that wants a Week Five kind of ride, and others that want a Week One. We still have "entertainment" scheduled for us wehnever we want it!
I might be up for a week 1 ride if y'all will have me.......... gotta see how my week goes work-wise....
and I got's a camera (that sucks for shooting at night but maybe someone will be better at it than me...) if you want me to bring it lemme know.............
This week's Cub Camp is going to be a little different.
Because of last week's 'week 5' ride being postponed, we're making it up this week. Everyone will leave the Bikerowave together in Cub pack fashion, but after a few miles, anyone only wanting a short ride will split off and be led back. Week 5'ers will continue on.
******************************************
*******STOP THE PRESSES***********
*******CALL OFF THE DOGS*********
***********REMAIN CALM**************
We are calling off the 5+1 idea!
This week will remain true to Cubcamp Week 1 Form, a 10-15 hustle-cruise with at least 2 scoops of somethin. The reason being that we want EVERYONE involved in Cubcamp The Movie, and thats not good for the ride-split idea....
In lieu of last week's Dia del Marcus Muertos, we are going to go "5+5"....
"...what'd he say?"
I said, "5+5". I will fill you in later but this set's Week 5er will be a double doozy...You will be needing the day off after.
anyhoo
it is week two
so thats good for you.
bring them shoes
and prepare to abuse
the dibididoos.
unless you choose
to cycle confuse
and stay until Tues
in Echo Park.
PAULY D!!!!
wtf!!!
You must've smelled this week's ride brewing...Its definitely your caliber. It would be so amazing to ride with you again, jeez, its been forever...
...this week is the 99Century. Its 99 miles, lots of hills, at hopefully balls out pace...read the other thread "CUBCAMPS WEEKS FIVES" for more.
This week we ride the only way orphans can.
"The Friends of the Friendless" - we'll ride seeking out other random strangers on bikes and make them our leader! Follow them, whatever pace, until we reach their destination and voila! instant friend! Perhaps reward them with beverages, let's see what happens...
Its this kind of magic that...um...good will and...turkey..football.....RIDE BIKES!!!
We are Friends of the Friendless, yes we are, yes we are
We are Friends of the Friendless, be they near, be they far
We are here for the downtrodden
And we sober up the sodden
We are Friends of the Friendless, yes we are, yes we are!
Yeah, I was under the impression they would meet up, but instead they officially ride on Wed, but some will come to Cubcamp. Its that kind of ...magic ...umm that we'd like to give ...thanks ...and ...uhh ...turkey ...ummm ...football ....
RIDE BIKES! YAY! RIDE BIKES! YAY! RIDE BIKES! YAY!
Actually the idea is from an "I Love Lucy" episode that's unfortunately stuck in my head. Here is the link to the song.

This song was sung by Lucy in Episode #60, Lucy's Last Birthday, which aired on May 11, 1953. Lucy was encouraged to join The Friends of the Friendless, or FOTFL, after being approached in a park while down on her luck.
You'll note above in this thread that PC has so lovingly researched and posted (or somehow already had memorized and merely recited) the lyrics to the song, "Friends of the Friendless". Its as though PC and myself have somehow bonded. But I digress.
The point is, WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO SING THIS SONG. It will announce our presence to our new friends in a calming, harmless, and most friendly manner, like the baked cookie smell in an open house. Or maybe like the smell of weiners to catch a dog. But I digress.
Its this kind of magic that... when the holidays... are... turkey... and shopping... zombies... and ...weineRIDE BIKES!!! YAY!!
I watched I Love Lucy on channel 11 every weekday of my childhood, and much of my adulthood when I was unemployed.
I can also sing you the lyrics of the "Pleasant Peasant" operetta or the Phipps department store theme, if either of these things should be necessary to advance the bike culture.
Friends of the Friendless is such a great idea (not mine, Trekkie, but I wish it was) Nevertheless, I hope the ride makes friends that will ride w/ us all the time!!!

SO TONIGHT...
//////////////////\\\\\////////////////////\///////////////\\\\\\\\\\////////////////////////\
its a good idea to bring extra beers or sodas or candy or ? to ease our way into our new friends hearts. I'll bring some extra berrzz...
\\\\\\/////////////////////\\\\//////////\\\\\\\\///////////////////////////////////////\\
dont forget its Week One, more "Hassle" than "Hustle"...

I'm with Alec - more of this on other rides. I had a great time. What a fucking awesome group of super legends of cool. Marcus is fun as hell, no one can dispute that, but I noticed him as an inclusive leader at the beginning of this ride . . . I'm really impressed.
yeah last week's Cubcamp was my ride of the week! Turkey gang to Joosecapades everybody had good spirits and lots of new people and people from other areas too! I am glad people like what we're doing and come back and spread the word.
Overall I'd say we made a good 10 friends. I gave out more beer to existing friends than new ones. That was definitely funner...The Friends of the Friendless Ride is something we'll definitely be coming back to.
btw~Alex~this wasnt my first rodeo! its our 36th week-approx 60th ride!
THIS WEEK~
JUST SO EVERYONE'S CLEAR...
WE ARE MEETING AT 9P AT BIKEROWAVE, AS USUAL.
WE'LL THEN RIDE TO SEPULVEDA/SANTA MONICA BLVD TO MEET TYPSY SCATS.
I have definitely got to do this.
Seems like the length of haul for you guys is around the same as the Juggernaut rides I've been hitting.
Just different terrain in the Inland Empire.
Not to mention I want to bring my MTB as well.
Not heeding richtotheie's words of it needing some adjustments, I'm going to ride this pony into the ground!!!
Whoa'dblock: Highway to the Danger Woah!?! que terrible!
Whoa for reals yalls!! fun FAST ride!! fun fun fun WHOA!!!! When I finally went to sleep it felt like I had a heating pad cuz my legs were burnin' so much! It's nice, I like. WOAH KAY NOW>>> BACK TO WHOA-RK ;P one of us! one of us! WHOA!
RE: TONIGHT.
I just want everyone to know that all decisions for tonight's ride were made based on two factors.
1-Experimentation
2-Fun
Almost all Cubcamp rides are based on these two factors. We use them like themes, along with "Hustle" and "Unpredictability" among others. These are basically the backbone of our style. But about tonight, there is nothing intentionally malicious, and certainly nothing that I deemed too risky to include as part of a ride.
Tonight is not the end of the world or anything close to it! I know this is sounding serious, but I just want it to be said before tonight's ride. Thats all.
And the desert pelts you with sand and beats you with wind, suckers.
While y'all Cubz are at it, find a Krispy Kreme and howl y'all asses through the drive-thru.
It worked for us Juggernauts.
Wow, a strange but enjoyable night of Cubcamp. Getting rained on, being harassed by the omnipotent voice of authority, ambushed with glitter and sacks of flour by Trenway ridazz, Richie cubcamping wheel chair style, and karaoke to top it all off. What an evening. I <3 Cubcamp.
Note to self: I know you're cold now, but you aren't riding right now... you are sitting in an office hitting refresh, drinking coffee that has gone cold and playing bloxorz...none that keeps you warm!! Anyway, about the layers... remember what happened last time you rode w/ a hoodie and scarf and puffy jacket and gloves? seriously.... and this is week 4 you wont need ALL those!! BTW... you should probably drink some water, yah?
View Larger Map FOR TONIGHT. Print it if yall want. Its basically a route from about 20 weeks ago (plus a detour to Barnsdall Park).
The previous ride was led by the Queen herself!
BABY COME BACK!
if any cubs happen to see this before you roll out, gimme a call when you get a sec! I get outta werk in chinatown at 9:45 or so and i wanna come catch you in hollywood.
Temp's will most likely be in the "mildly gettin' yo' ass chewed out" zone!!!
Out of the Den and into the LA Nat'l DeForest with you!!!
Don't make me dispatch a "Hadouken" from a nearby Juggernaut.
Those things have an immeasureable range for those cooped up in fur-lined, dwellings.
If I were to put it more frank and to the point, I would sound like a tired, old person.
Quit bitching about and being afraid of the tolerable cold, throw on a light jacket, and fuckin' ride Cubz!!!
No, I have to vent.
For the past month, I've been readin' too many threads about "50degree" temp's in LA hindering the abilities of one too many cyclists in general.
So sorry i couldnt complete the ride! Apparently wheatpaste is NOT good lubricant (via the TWBG flour pack attack)..You can tell I havent been riding enough (have been driving to work) so I didnt even notice til *gulp* Cubcamp!
Anyhooo I hear Franz might be back soon. He may be watching, but I wish he was riding! We miss you buddy...
I had never seen Flight of the Concords before we watched the 1st season last night at Ridge Way....soooo funnny!! BB... we didn't even get t disc 2!!! =)
Well Cubbiez, that's what y'all's fur coats are for.
Fifty degrees is unbearable for some, but y'all's would've died in the 13 degree temps I dealt with coming home from work this morning!!
A little breezy, but it's also the fact that I'm basically riding and looking like these guys above.
Nonetheless, it's a definite trip!!!
13 is pretty steep, but I was recently in 17 degree weather up at Mammoth for a snowboarding trip, so I'm not unfamiliar with the cold. LA feels like a sauna by comparison now.
My tolerance to the cold is very low still.
Hell, you mention sauna, the gear I layer myself in makes me feel like the sauna!!
And I usually tote around the rifle to generate some extra heat in case it gets into the "negative" digits.
Although, when I rode through SLC snow several months back, it stuck, but it didn't really feel all that cold.
Might've been the still-present, cloud cover acting as an insulator.
Mark (KHS rider with the chain grease on his legs) & I (I being Rich) had to break off at Olympic/The Freeway part place because I had to get my ass to work. By the time I finished whining and pleading my case, y'all were but blinkies in Le Distance. Sorry about the not saying, "Adieu!" We had a fun fun time!
We had also never been that far down Olympic and rode it right into Downtown. That's a fun little street.
Thanks for ride!

>>> I hadn't put a route together yet, so If you've already got something in mind lets go with it <<<

Sounds like Steve had something going, but just in case I'll throw together something too. If we don't use it I'll save for later. Although it would be unscouted, and unknown danger may be lurking...
Dear CubCamp,
I had such a great time tonight. I hope that we can do it again in the near future. I loved your rolling curves and sensuous lines. You know how to wear out a man. If I were a smoker, I would have lit up a whole pack after the ride you gave me tonight. I must admit, I wasn't too keen on the pounding you gave Joe, but, you know, I guess you're into that every once-in-a-while.
Eric I need to borrow your extra set of gloves again, and honestly I'm probably going to mug you before the ride for those shoe warmers and possibly your fixie.
gloves aren't available, one pair is half way in echo park.... I'm sure you understand that my needs come before yours (ouch, burn!!)
Call me tonight to coordinate.

this week is a level five, the most difficult.
100101000105101005015015015051010010505015
its up to whoever has the route to define difficult, and this person is not me.

i do not compute this week.

Pumps and a BUMP! I'm scared for yalls It's week 5.... So difficult that NO ONE WILL EVEN TALK ABOUT IT!!! SH! Don't even think about it or your mind's legs will melt right off!
last night = clean route + sufficient noise-making / my dad's a cop + (awesome x The People's Republic of Los Angelopes, LLC) = Cubcamp XXXVI = ofukyeah!
also, it was the most traffic we've come across since LAX. it was super fun cutting it up through there with CUBLOVIN!
super hustle down there
foxtrot rabbit hole chase through hawthorne/torrance/hermosa
wind resistance anti-parachute training camp back
los angelopes is a hot topic
day after crumply legs
No headwinds for you guys.
Y'all just have a free shower, courtesy of a low coming in from the north.
And I'm just a wannabe, weatherman who gets KFC buckets thrown at him.
I did 80% of the hill on my fixie last night, there's a quality grade right at the end that I wasn't prepared for, but I think that I could kill it this time, either way it's not that far if you're forced to walk it to the top...
fuck, im actually fixing my front wheel as we speak so I don't think ill make it, fucking shitty bearings n stuff rusting and pooping out on me at the worst time, it'll be good for MOAR n SD
unfortunately cubcampers, i will be out of commission for the next month or more, I am rehabbing a chronic knee problem, and need to wait for it to go away before i do anymore hard riding.
we should take inflatable pools to the beach and have an inflatable ocean party...
Since I havent formally invited Marcus to the ride, I will assume you meant for ME to correct the route....
@Stevestevesteve-noted!, we will go up Main St.
@Spook, Big Daddy's is on the route, i just couldnt fit it bc google maps is for drivazz only and the address f*ed it up...Dont you worry...I think we should actually stop there.
I'm assuming we'll be stopping at one of these at least, i hope. This could sort of be an anniversary for me since my first Cub Camp i did went down to Hermosa near E-rock's place and we stopped and had a slice.
Tomorrow night marks 7 years since the beginning of Cubcamp.
Looking through all the old posts and ride photos has me tearing up. I love you all and feel so lucky to have met some of my absolute best friends through Cubcamp!
We're doing the original route which is all westside.
Ride starts at the Bikerowave
12255 Venice Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90066
Get there at 9PM - we leave 9:15PM SHARP.
This will be a quicker paced ride, so if you have a beach cruiser you'll probably have trouble keeping up. No one gets dropped, no beer stops, 20-30 mile ride. We'll be ending at the Hacienda for some party celebration time.
