"its a 20 mile ride
we've got our tires full of air
12 packs of tecate
its dark
and were wearing sunglasses"
THE BLUES BROS RIDE!!!!!
One of the most incredible movies of its time, full of good dancing, great blues music, insane car crashes (even by todays standards), and actors that made history!!!
The theme - black suits, black ties, white shirts, black hats, if you cant wear these, please wear at least sunglasses (yes, at night!)
We will be rolin on well-lighted streets, so we should have a problem.
We also have an incredible blues playlist created, and a Jake and Elwood dance contest!
I'm pretty sure they lock it... but then again there is always basketball players in there before the first game so ... maybe??? We have a game tonight at 9pm.. you're welcome to come by and we can talk with the rink manager. . .
YES this is a great idea for a ride! whoever thought of it must be pretty cool!
how awesome would it be to have a huge amount of people actually dressed up for this? there are so many choices for costumes and the obvious would be one of the brothers. Ray Charles, James Brown, Cab Calloway, Aretha Franklin as waitress, the other band members as chefs, Illinois Natzis, MP's, even cops!
Are you the Police?
No, ma'am. We're the Midnight Ridazz!!
haha totally come by! 9pm! i'm not sure if DAK is playing or not yet. i'll find out when i get home. but yes KRUMPING SO BADLYYY!!! I don't even know what that is... i should GOOGLE it or something.
oh and yes to Barchopz&Hockey but we have a bye week next barchopz and in may our game is at 10pm, yow! we'll talk.
Not trying to hawk myself, but being I was born in Illinois, I'll see if I can't get a hold of an old, Illinois State Police jacket by next week.
My favorite scene is the car-chase with the Nazi's and those Pinto-Wagons.
Cut to them flying for god knows how long through the air;
"I love you so very much.....CRASH!!!"
OK folks, Im putting the playlist together. I think I have a lot of good blues tracks but welcome any input. If you have songs you would like to request or add, request here or send to
drum_n_bass_in_your_face at yahoo dot com
I'll probably be renting a car tommorrow to fill out an app for a trucking job out in L(oser)n Valley tommorrow.
If I do, I'm definitely going down there afterwards.
First thing is I'm going to see if my younger brother's going to come along, or flake out like usual.
In the case of a flake-out, I'll probably be able to pick up about, 3 Westsidazz depending on what Hertz sticks me with.
That PT Cruiser I was given last time could hold 3-4+driver, and 1+my folder in the back.
With the bikerack I have, I could fit 2-3 bikes onto it with bungee cords.
My number's 760-686-3051.
Rolling out solo from Victorville.
I've got room for 3-4 more people, plus bikes on racks.
I'm heading out right now, so give me a meeting place.
And, if you do ride out there, I'm good to give rides back home as well.
A big thanks for all who rolled last night....great times!! Wow, we had around 200 ridazz, perfect weather, a 22 mile route, fireworks, a car full of girls, and everyone wearing sunglasses!
Hope the two that fell are ok -
next ride..........THE TIE A STUFFED ANIMAL ON YOUR BACK RIDE!
Thanks Brian,
great ride. It was a ride-ride as we got to actually ride instead of stopping at liquor stores every half mile. It also had a spiral shaped route which made it easy for people to drop out if they felt they had enough. Good pace. Not too slow to be bored, not too fast to be dropped.
Nice music both in the front and the back.
Nice crowd, lots of new people.
I wish more had dressed up but it was a hot night for a shirt and jacket.
That ride done kicked the ass off the pants.
With the weather warmed up again, it was nice to see all those new, and friendly faces out there.
Even more surprisingly, running into some fan favorites that I myself haven't seen in quite awhile.
The 3rd and 4th Saturdays of the month are the greatest.
Next ride, while everyone straps a Polar Bear to their back,
I'm busting out the oversized, rubber-chicken on the 10' foot pole!!!
Ohhhhhwhoahwhoahwhoaahhhhhhhh.....I love your rides SpeedyB. Eagerly anticipating next months, but I bet it's gonna be even warmer by then. Maybe we should call it the
"Topless, Strap a Stuffed Animal to Your Back RIDE"
OR
"Short Shorts with a Stuffed Animal on Your Back RIDE"
That what that was... I saw something like that on the steps of L/ Valley College.... I was riding away cause the sheriff had his lights on me (last to leave) and caught a quick glimpse of what looked like your bear. It should still be there...
skd.. dude... good that you're ok. I thought I heard someone behind me crash in the Ralph's garage parking lot and when I turned around I saw people helping.
Speaking of crashes... we had a little more than usual crashes on this ride. I hope everyone is ok.
Brian...
Great ride! Can't say enough how good your rides are. It's all the fun that was being held down by the rain these couple months.... BBD kicks ass on the harmonica!!
Yeah, all the Ralphs parking lot crash victims limped on back to the park where we joined others "who were left behind". No one had a route map, so they all waited for their friends who were still on the ride. It still was a fun night and there was some drama at the park when a drunk woman parked her Hummer in middle of the street and fought with her boyfriend. Never a dull moment...
I wish you were there pulling the BBD trailer, I think you would have been less resistant on playing the playlist that was made for the ride. Unfortunately we had someone pulling the trailder that didnt want to listen to Blues for very long. I guess playing Blues on the Blues Brothers ride just didnt seem right.
leo,
nobody except you wanted to hear the blues all night long. if you heard the cheers when I stopped your playlist, you'd understand. I got compliments throughout the night for the wide variety of music on my playlist, not for continuously playing the blues. I tried to play your sucky playlist between two stops, and it simply didn't work. it's a party ride, not a pity ride.
widipedia: The phrase "the blues" is a reference to the the blue devils, meaning 'down' spirits, depression and sadness.
it has always been a simple rule: the person pulling the trailer gets to play their music. if you wanted your playlist, then you should have transported the trailer from Hollywood into the valley, recharged the batteries, stored the trailer, connected the bike hitch, and then finally pulled the trailer.
Is that you? I finally took the plunge and went on the Blues Brothers ride. I was amazing!!!. I guess I 'll see you around on another ride. Did you get the pic I sent you from my camera phone? The one where you were blowdrying the painted egg on your costume?
Dude, it looks like it was awesome. GREAT COSTUMES EVERYONE! Good Spirit! Okay, I gotta give it to you for getting that car of Pretty girls to party with y'all for a lil while. all i gotta say is WOW.
that is not true, I was told by many that they were there to hear blues and thought thats what would be played as that was the theme. variety is good, but not if its the same variety everytime. because you dont know or understand blues music, your comment about my sucky playlist doesnt mean much. if it was a party ride the only time I saw people dancing was when my sucky songs were being played. I didnt see one person dance on the rooftop where people usually do the most dancing.
your widipedia definition of blues doesnt mean much as again if you knew blues music, its not all down or about sadness. if you would have seen the Blues Brothers movie you would know that there is much upbeat music and a lot of dancing and fun. My list included a lot of songs that are fast and would have had people dancing. Also, a lot of songs that would have given BBD more chances to play his harmonica.
I was told that true, it is the rule that person pulling trailer chooses music unless otherwise dicussed. Brian stated on his original post for the ride that we have a playlist and I also mentioned on the thread that I am putting together such list. If I would have known that you would have refused to play this list that I spent a lot of time and energy putting together I would have made plans to do all those things you mentioned for the trailer. Also, I didnt think I would have to deal with someone absolutely refusing to play a list, as I thought this was a collective effort and not one person would be deciding that they just didnt want to hear blues anymore. I even offered to switch bikes with you, but no you werent gonna ride my bike.
you seem to have forgotten that I used your playlist twice, and each time I changed it there was cheering.
more importantly, the question of playlist is moot at this point. it's over and done. the ride was a success, regardless of the tunes that were played.
nobody else is whining about it except you, leo. get over it.
The music was fine. The blues, the non blues, the hip hop Al played in the back.
Leo put a lot of work on his playlist and he was really bummed out we didn't play it the whole time as he intended.
But lets face it. These rides last 4-5 hours. There is no DJ who can keep everyone interested with one kind of music for that long. We need to mix it up.
Think of the theme music as the flavor not the sole ingredient of a playlist.
you seem to have forgotten that ridaz cheer because they like to cheer.
true, it was a success and a lot of fun and this is moot, and of course this seems like its whinning to you, but it was important to me as I spent a lot of fucking time putting it together just so you can decide it wasnt what you wanted.
A) leo's point of view = I spent an hour making a playlist of all blues music that jeff only played between two liquor store stops because he got tired of it.
B) jeff's point of view = I can't listen to a single genre of music for an entire ride which lasts for 4-5 hours, even if I'm high and drunk the whole time.
C) big picture = people had fun on their bicycles, and we had another successful ride on Saturday night with negligible involvement with the police and a few minor spills.
Jeff
Youre right, except for one thing that it took much more than 1 hour to go through 400+ gigs of music to put this list together. If you would have given it just a bit more effort and not been so quick to shut it down, you would have heard a lot of great music.
Marino, I like you too much to even think of fighting you, a Blues Brother. Marino, is da Greek? I love Greek music! Hey how about we put an International Music Ride together!! We have a good variety of cultures represented at MR so I think it would really be incredible.
@ Leo I have a lot of international music in my iPod cambodian, turkish, brazilian, french, algerian. I play it from my little speakers. It got the BBD trailer treatment at a Sins and Sprockets ride once after the main mp3 player crapped out. People liked it. Jeff hates it. (true)
It does well with the 35+ age group. Not so well with the youngun's.
Actually, I owe both of you alot for making this ride happen. Both of you put a lot of effort and time. Truly this ride was a success, one that ridazz will remember for a while. I am happy it with it.
Jeff, thanks for pulling the trailer. I didnt even need to ask you. You also pulled the tralier on the Blue Balls Ride, even though you didnt even think that theme was a good idea!
Leo, this was originally your idea for the ride. You got the tightest blues collection ever, and I was down for this idea. You spent alot of time and thought putting this playlist together.
Im not picking sides here, but I want to end this thread. The ride is over, and we are moving on. At the next ride through, Im buying both of you beers (including Marino!)
