Potholes!!

Just an FYI. You guys can report potholes through this site http://www.lacity.org/BOSS/Resurfacing/potholes.htm
and supposedly it'll be fixed within 48 hrs!

I can't figure out a way to list every square inch of every major road in Los Angeles.
If we got serious about reporting every possible wheel-bender, they'd have to staff up massively to meet that 48 hour limit. It'd be good to do the reporting, but I wouldn't hold my breath on the rapid fixes if we report a couple thousand potholes, and I'm thinking we probably could do so pretty easily.

heh, I should report that fucker that took me down last year... although I know someone who lives in that neighborhood, he says it was reported and they "fixed" it... it wasn't a hole it was a massive boob shaped bump, their "fix" was to flatten the top 6 inches off, whereas now it is a boob pressed against a window.. and still 4 inches high...

Sixth Street/Rampart.. That whole area is a damn mess! Once, there was a trash can in one of the potholes in the street.

Santa Monica Blvd from Silver Lake to La Brea. Repave the whole stretch.
Franklin Ave from Los Feliz to Highland.
Western Ave from Hollywood Blvd all the way to Wilshire.
The list goes on and on...
There is a Recession and lots of people are out of work. During the Depression they hired people to fix the streets, in part to provide jobs but also to improve the infrastructure. We need to do this again. Our streets are in such disrepair, we are looking more 3rd world everyday.

gah, has anyone see that gnarly pothole on Melrose by the gas station right before the 101 Freeway going towards the kitchen? My car can barely get over it.

In Sacramento we used to go around and circle the potholes with white spray paint. At least then we had a pretty good idea if we saw a circle on the streets at night, to avoid it.
I say we have a ride with this in mind, yeah?

3rd street is the worst. i almost died riding down that street when i was going to the ride and go seek ride.

That's a great idea!
Some of the ridazz already have spray paint in their bags anyway. We just need to teach them to spray downwards.

Thanks for posting that site... I was just wondering about this sort of thing yesterday. I just reported a nasty p-hole in Koreatown (of course). Right by Cole's house. He owes me a beer if it gets fixed.

Spot on. My good friend from Germany is constantly appalled at our infrastructure.
I guess when your country doesn't dump $500 billion on a retarded war, you have money to do things like pave streets and provide good public transportation and improve the electric grid so the city doesn't get blackouts everytime it sprinkles and provide healthcare and and and and...

I hit a pothole today, while riding my tallbike, crossing Wilshire on Santa Monica. The end result was a broken steer-tube and me begging for my life.

GREEN FLUORESCENT SPRAY PAINT. THAT COULD BE CARRIED ON THE WATER BOTTLE AREA OF BIKES. SPRAY A LINE LEADING UP TO A NASTY POTHOLE TO ALERT CYCLISTS.

I was fine. Luckily, I managed to stay upright long enough to jump off. Picking up pieces of tallbike in the Wilshire/SM Blvd intersection is not fun however.

The irony of pothole repair is that most of them seem to be CAUSED by the city. I'm thinking of all those square holes that are cut out for service work then filled with soft material.
There was a particularly nasty one in the Sunset Bike lane last year that almost downed me. I contacted 2 agencies, and Michelle Mowery from LADOT personally called about it and it still took over 2 months to fix.
The fuckhole on 4SBB that has injured at least 2 experienced ridazz has even been seen in person by Tom Labonge. Has that thing ever been fixed?
I never remember where it is because that whole intersection is ALWAYS flooded with water.

If we're going to do this painting thing, how about a stencil that has like a big jagged circle with a "PH" in it and an arrow pointing toward the hole?
I know one of you Photoshop people can whip that up in about 5 seconds.
