I used to live in Portland. The city has its ups and downs... Personally, I like gloomy cloudy weather. If you don't like it though, it gets depressing. Other than that, the public transportation system was really efficient. You don't even need a car to get around unless you're carrying a lot of shit! I guess the only think I would change is their lack of diversity there... Like, no lie, 80% of the city is white...

I guess the only reason I didn't notice that about the city was due to the fact that Victorville and the surrounding area was like that for awhile.
Hell, I still have class photos from 1st grade showing myself as the only dark guy in a class full of the Children of the Corn.
But anywho, I mainly like the city due to its existence among the forest.
You've got an actual river going through the middle of the city, farm-land within five miles of city limits, for a liberal city they have lax gun-laws(had to say it).
Not to mention the schools in the area are pretty top notch.
I vote Oregon as one of the few places I intend to "bug-out" to once I get tired of this place.

How many days out of the year does it rain? How many days do you have to wear rain gear on the bike?
I think I wore my rain stuff twice this year in LA...I don't even own fenders.

Yeah dude, my apartment there was eerie as fuck. You had to go through the woods first, then through the cemetery, then through more woods and then my apartment complex just appeared out of nowhere, lol. I lived in SW portland near beaverton. Beaverton was actually walking distance from my place!
Don't EVER go swimming in that river... Unless you watch eyeballs growing from the palm of your hands and extra limbs!

Now that's the type of commute I would literally kill for, that so reminds me of the various levels of Resident Evil 0 that I've played.
And one of my old neighbors from Apple Valley lives in Beaverton now, their family moved from Oakland, OR to Apple Valley in '85, then back up Oregon in '92.
Apparently, the greenery keeps 'em coming back.

from what i heard, the greenery actually drove a lot of artists in portland insane. cuz they would get so involved with nature, that eventually all their work would be based off of trees and the wilderness, hahahaha. i fucking hate that man. personally, i'm really into urban shit and luckily, NOPO (north portland) is a goldmine for all that! NOPO is like the south central of portland, hahahaha. NO LIE.

It's because Portland is full of Californians who were unhappy in California and took their unhappiness with them. We export unhappiness to Oregon.

I'm not surprised. It's wet and cloudy there, kinda small-townish, very white, and there's no jobs. Don't get me wrong, I love it despite those things.

This is why I'm not moving up there, or anywhere else for that matter until I get certified in a highly employable field, or drive OTR again.
Last I checked, plenty of hospitals for people in the nursing field and all the truck corridors are within 5-10 miles of downtown.
If anything, Portland was also a rather, trucker-friendly city as I don't recall getting much shit for parking a sleeper in most places.

the portland trip should be all about downers-

To all you Ridazz visiting Portland. A slight warning to you all.
Don't be thrown off by the cold shoulder you might get from a lot of bike groups up there. They think we are a bunch of psycho drunks who are always crashing and carry megaphones everywhere we go. (I wonder why?...)
But don't worry, ZooBombers are rad. They just kind of come across like they don't give a shit, but they will warm up to you once hopefully after a while. It's still a great bike town. Have fun. Don't shoot up any heroin. And I'm also full of shit.

If I had it my wish. I would be able to go and we would all bring Funderstorm up there again, there would be megaphones galore, jump ropes till you puke, sidewalk chalk, cuddle puddles, Franz in his spandeez, Dead Baby Biclycle club from Seattle, screaming fits and tirades, and all the general chaos that drove PDX to fear and loathe us so badlee.
