for a 46 tooth crank set what cog should i have i have a 16 tooth and its pretty hard for me to skid and ride i ride fixed gear

im on 46/16 right now, its ok. but 46/15 would be cool... hell 46/13 shouldnt be so harsh either

if you want to skid without much pressure, get a coaster brake, like on a beach cruiser.

either learn how to slow down by slowing your cadence, or get a brake set up. and i REALLY recommend getting a brake if you cant slow a 46/17 down. for your safety and for ours.

Put a larger cog on the back if you want to skid easier. A 46x16 should be fine for skidding, but a 17 or 18 tooth could work.
The bigger the rear cog, the easier it is to pedal and skid, but the slower the bike will go, and the faster your legs will spin going downhill.
Get a brake, stick with the 16 tooth cog, and learn how to skid properly.

put a brake on your bike. aside from not being unsafe, it's against the law to ride without a brake. the penalty for riding brakeless is a beating by me and my fellow officers. see you at CRANK MOB?

if you cant skid on a 46/17, dont blame your bike. i ridez a 46/15 and have no problem skidding. if you want to be able to skid with less pressure, go smaller in the front (42 tooth?) and larger in the back (21 tooth?).
then you shouldnt have any trouble controlling your bike. different ratios are for different purposes and different ridazz. my guess is that you want something that's easier to control. i'd recommend this ratio for going brakeless for you, especially if you dont want to crash and die.

Yes, now shut your big mouth and go practice trackstanding in your kitchen, so that you can do what every other fixed gear rider learns how to do within a couple of WEEKS of starting.
Cranks at three and nine o'clock.
Turn your wheel in the direction of the crank arm that faces forward.
Don't do anything. Notice how you're not falling yet? Yeah, it takes about a second to fall off of a bicycle, which means you've got plenty o time to start balancing, so RELAX.
Now start your balancing. You do at least know the principle of this, right? Pedal in the direction you're falling. Hey, you're not falling anymore!

have you learned to skid yet?
skidding on any gear ratio is a challenge before your body learns where to be and how to take the leap of faith that is skidding.
i changed my handle bars a few months back.
I have some townie/ dovetail bars now and it is hard to get my weight as far forward as with bull horns.
Skidding is not nearly as easy on the other hand, i have a front brake and now that i know how to skid its kind of a novelty. I do skid from time to time but leaving a bunch of rubber on the road and burning down tires is kind of a waste.
No excuse for riding brakeless except for having a fancy vintage track bike with nowhere to mount a brake.

i first skid bt complete accident. going real slow slightly downhill and out of the saddle and it just happened.
don't stress ... get a brake and jsut let it happen naturally.

people stop hating. hey man you should get a 52 tooth chain ring off a road bike. the thinner and lighter chain ring will make it easier to skid. the lower your handle bars are the easier it is to skid.
