I've also had personal experience with both Albuquerque and SLC.
Both are readily accessible by bike and, based on my experience, an even mixture of variable logic.

I actually used to live out in Portland and the bike scene there is huge. It's too bad I wasn't riding yet by that time.

clearly this list is flawed if it excludes Los Angeles. we have over half a dozen bike events going nearly every night of the week.

^^^yeah, that kind of confused me too BUT, I'm sure the percentage of workers commuting by bike is what? 0.00001? And that may have been part of what they based it on.
Los Angeles just doesn't lend itself to be considered a bike city cuz it's so freaking HUGE and spread out and car-centric. Sure WE bike it... cuz we're awesome... but we're not even a dent in the population. There's still a long way to go.

Now, if they based Bike Scene rankings on how many Craft Clubs, open-invite bike dinners, bike-made couples, bicycle bands, Touring vehicles, and inside jokes...LA WINS. We're too developed. When I was on the road explaining whats happening in LA, I said "Our bike scene is so developed, we have A CRAFT CLUB." We're over your head, World.
Face it, we're an innovative bike culture here. Just like most major art movements, we won't be recognized til we're dead.
May we have 5 more years under the radar.

ugh, I can't imagine what it must be like in Salt Lake City. Can't be that edgy. Snow cities? I'll take living in Bombay Beach any day over that!

Salt Lake City was quite, secular the last time I was there during my OTR-tours.
Lots of schools, museums, historical landmarks, and the public-transit was pretty substantial as well.
The roads to me were fairly easy to navigate.
Parts of downtown got a little squirrely, but most of the drivers were patient/polite enough to take time and give room as needed.
Snow-wise, I rode through there during a heavy, snow-fall, but the wind wasn't blowing too hard and I was able to cruise all the way down 200th West with little difficulty.
As far as the "Mormon" thing goes, Temple Square is relatively surrounded by secular business districts and BYU is down in Provo, so that sort of evens out the playing field.
