Me and Anthony are planning on showing up to this ride tonight.
What is the usual turnout like?
I have never done this ride before, so I am pretty pumped up.

i want to go on this but, im not to sure if ill be able to make it. Los Feliz is that steep going up is it?
Anyone bike all the way up los feliz fixed?

the route is steep and we don't go up los feliz, we go the back way up to the observatory
the biggest turnout has been 11 but it's been getting bigger
a couple people have done it brakeless but they have more testicular fortitude than i have seen in a long time, it's a FAST descent
the name is probably going to be changed soon so look for it

ill try this one maybe nextweek.. even if the hill ends up kicking my ass it will still be fun! and worth it when i reach the top

How long would you say it takes to get to the top

gmap doesn't really figure out the route we take,
we head down los feliz to the river trail, take that all the way down hop back on riverside for a bit then head up the hill there (can't remember the name, only one hill though) then we make one more turn at the next intersection and follow that empty road all the way to the observatory
the hill does kick a lot of ass, but we always make sure everybody makes it to the top even if they have to walk, the only people who have dropped, dropped voluntarily

this ride is challenging if you're not used to climbing, but people always push to the top no matter how much trouble they are having. we never leave anyone behind. this a total training ride. those who want to sprint to the top can, but most of us are slowing pushing each other.
we've seen people do it on fixies and mtbs, clipless pedals and sandals. for reals.

It's supposed to be weekly but we've not been very consistent due to the small size. It will be now though.

Its unfortunate that the ride starts at 6... is everyone on the ride unemployed or actors/waiters?
no offense meant. i'd like to go on the ride, but typical work hours let me off at 630. wouldn't even get there till 7. seems like star gazing is an all night activity.

hey aqueous maybe when i decide to get on this ride, we can meet up at the start point (griffith park fountain on riverside drive & los feliz)and wait for the other late starters... then we can meet the earlybirds at the top =] i get out at 4:30 but then again i gotta get a little bit of time to relax in my undies before i go out to play.

This is a great ride which isn't too long in distance. About 1/3 of the ride is flat completely. 1/3 is fast down hill and the remaining 1/3 is a uphill climb. If you go slow at your own pace you'll make it. Try it, you never know...

Okay, not really. I only rock flat pedals thus far. But I am a fat chick.
I've glanced at this ride a couple of times. I've done the climb on my own a couple of times from either side. I'd like to go but what if I am that slow fat chick? Will I be made fun of? : {

Okay, I am not that much of a fat chick. I guess I am a "thick" chick. I can be pretty slow on longer ascents, but I do love hills.
While training for my century, I took the Vermont way up and it turned out they were holding some event so there was traffic all the way up. It pleased me to be faster than the cars.
Ride is every Thursday? I am waiting on new tires for the road bike, but I might try it with the MTB for kicks.

Saw your pix on myspace....you're like 1/2 of that fat chick, so props to your genes. You'll definitely make it up those hills. Although you would need a little bit of dicipline and determination...oh ya and pacing.
