awesome ride tonight. great turnout. great group, fast ride. city of commerce, 2nd st tunnel, echo park lake then the after party at pinks was dizzle dopee dope!
chuykid what up I have to admit you guys really brought ya hustle. in fact you guys even hustled us all into hustling some more when the ride was done... that's that kind of hustle we lookin for... best bring all the Denmothers back for the next one....
average speed 20 mph.
red means nothing
30 miles shit maybe 40 miles
bring that hustle or you will be left behind
if you wake up at all you will wake up sore on tuesday. if not, Wolfpack didnt do it right or maybe you just need to join the crew.
and yes, there are hills
good ride. the pack really stayed together too... yo what up I heard someone crashed? there's a wicked fucking curb on sunset right by Miaggi's right after the curve. I almost hit that shit myself!! That curb needs to be destoyed.
me and andy weren't sure if we'd be able to make it back to the train in time to get back to long beach so we had to bail out at wilshire/vermont...im so sad we didnt get to finish..but it was super fun!..even tho i have THE SHITTIEST gear inches ever and was dead last always...its all good..im switching bikes and getting like a 46/16 instead of 44/18 so i can keep up..
no brakes/no clips/slow bike = peddling too fast and nothing really happening ;) i was at top speed and no even close to being able to keep up..BUT NEXT TIME!
all good! thanks for coming out though most of the pack broke off on the wilshire run it seems... bumpy ass fuckin road... I really hope whomever it was that got curbed on sunset will be ok. I still see that fucking curb in my head it almost ate my ass too
The man at the liquor store was pissed. I was the last to leave the liquor store since I was working on my bike when everyone left. He walked out of the store and was ranting to other customers at the store. He even walked out of the store to see where everyone went.
Last night was the first time I rode this ride, it was great. It would have been more fun if I paid more attention to the directions. I was way past the Century City mall when someone called me to tell me the route. The taillights I was chasing turned out to be some guys who just got out of work and were riding home.
I guess if I just kept up with the lead pack I wouidn't be lost. But there always next Monday.
Instead of 46*16, I suggest 46*17 [which I use] or 44*16 [sooo nice!] It's lower than 46*16, but it's easier to get a handle on.
Flat pedals/no brake can get a little too impractical on a brakeless bike. Throw on a front brake. Otherwise, it just nullifies the "practical simplicity" of a fixed gear. Cages will help ya out leap and bounds!
It comes down to the spin, and the force you use on the downward stroke. Jack and I use pretty low gears, you want lower gearing in the city, for accelerating/decelerating. At least, that's what I'm led to believe.
God, I'm a fucking dork, I'm getting off the soapbox now. Good ride! Who wrecked? And was that liquor store owner an actual person? Or did he walk out of a bad TV show?
Cranksgiving is tomorrow! Let's go shopping!
noway..not too preachy ;).. i appreciate it!...i actually put a front brake on today..but it just sorta slows me down..it doesnt stop me cuz its for a 26" and I have a 27" on front now so it just barely hits the rim..but it works!..
and yeah I just wanted to go a little faster cuz i pedal out way too fast and cant seem to go fast enough..so i thought 46/16 sounded good but if you recomend 46/17 i might do that..i was gunna get a new cog tomarrow for the race so i might just cruise with a 44/16 i havent decided ..also i always wear slip on chucks so the whole cages thingy doesnt work cuz my shoes fall off ;)...i think im just gunna get eggbeaters when i build up andy's old nishiki
Im so there for cranksgiving tomarrow..i have to leave work at 4 but Im fuckin there!
Dunno if there's a consensus on whether there's going to be a Wolfpack ride on Monday, Nov. 27th, but I hope you guys have a good ride burning off that TurDuckEn! I'll still be wrapped up with holiday weekend business, so fellow DenMothers, you best represent!!
Wolf Pack kicks fuckin ass. Y'all should try the Alley Rat in Highland Park. Put some money on yo' bike skillz. Every 2nd Saturday, 11 p.m., at the Spoke(n) Art Ride afterparty.
What camera did you use to take the skyline pictures? and what exposures? On my way here from NY i took this in Arizona. I think it was 15 seconds wide open at 1600iso
I know a coyote is a not a wolf, but check what I saw on the way home from the Undercover Ride! This was in the middle of West Hollywood, nowhere near the hills.
This is the real wolf pack! Poor girl must be hungry to come this far looking for food. She was with a cub.
That was a fucking punishing ride. A lot of uphill.... Thighmaster aint got shit on Wolfpack!! ... Hyperion, glendale, colorado blvd., Suicide bridge, old town pasadena... Figueroa, 110 bike path, sunset blvd... Back to tangs for a donut 2 hours later....... Ass kicked about to spark one with Wolfrider1 and Wolfrider3. Good ride locos. See you next week.
cool route, the hills, bridges 110 bike path... that was damn good ride. Worth the drive up from LB. we went right past were i lived for a while (ave 52 & figueroa). Looking forward to see where the next one will go to.
damn. That looks like fun. What are the majority of riders riding? Geared bikes or fixed bikes? is anyone welcome? Is the route determined before leaving? or is just a follow the leader deal?
sorry for the questions.
nah, I mean the 134 (or maybe that's technically the 210) After we left old town we went over a short over pass to reconnect with suicide bridge. If you looked over the side we were way up there!
yeah man, watch the doobage + yoga... stick to mountain dew and cigarettes.
I also have to say that the ride last night was awesome. Wolfpack beats you down until you want to cry. hustling up long arduous hills trying to catch up with someone 100ft ahead of you, as they slip away into the darkness. then you start jamming, you're going as fast as you possibly can go, out in front of everybody, you think the next rider is a mile behind you until you watch fives pass you by in a instant leaving you in their dust. Then you find a little more juice and struggle to catch up, you search for the biggest bike on the street to draft behind, its Roadblock, now you have easy sailing until the next hill. Anyways, Props to the Wolfriders.
Great ride, certainly worth the drive from the OC; too bad the train doesn't run that late. The ride was just the length I had just enough energy to drive home
I took a wrong turn; right before hitting the Colorado St. Bridge. I shot under the 134 (toward Art Center) because I thought I saw a rider way ahead of me turn that way. Night mirage! Phantom rider! Whatever. It was rad being lost like that for a while - lonesome & separated from the pack.
Backtracked with the 'woo-woo' of some owls in the dark trees and eventually found the pack at the Colorado check - and just in time to whip around and head back w/out catching a breath. aAAROOooooo!
Awesome image!! Post that shit up in the ride calendar! The only reason I go on these rides is the badass logos. Otherwise the monday night tiddlywinks at the elks lodge wins out.
Thanks to all that stopped when I crashed. I'm OK but I will be sore in the morning, nothing broken just a sore shoulder and a swollen knee.
I am more upset for not finishing the ride than crashing.
The bike did not do as well though, fork and several spokes are bent. The fork might be a lost but hopefully the wheel can be salvaged. I guess my light's battery pack came loose when I hit a bump. The battery got caught in the spokes bringing the bike to an abrupt stop thus throwing me over the handle bars.
Special thanks to Drew and Tony Z for hanging with me. Sorry that we had to cut the ride short but there's always next week.
Thanks, at first we thought the bike was OK but upon closer inspection at the second stop, we found that the brakes were skewed. The wheel was bent and the fork was pushed backed a couple of inches causing a nasty toe overlap. If we didn't turn back I would have probably crashed again while turning.
I'm pretty sore this morning but glad that I did not take anyone else out since there were several people around and behind me. I've about the other crashes I hope everyone is OK, bikes can be repaired. Mine should be fixed this afternoon.
yo... i dunno how many people ultimately crashed, but that wolfpack was nuts. big up to folks that made it back to tang's and i hope everyone and their bike recovers well!
yeah that shit was so fun! and i like pretty green spoke cards!...but i see i am still very wussssyyyyy..cuz i couldnt really go much faster than last night.........but soon!
jordan and i are getting there a little early to get some non perishables in thai town, so we will probably be at tangs early, eating some pre ride wolf snacks.
man those were some mid west broke back mountain style jocks!! that was some bizarre shit and a sucker punch to boot! what a punk extending his hand saying he's sorry then punching wise was WACK. at least a couple of us got licks in It was so chaotic I cant even remember how it all went down. I got a punch in on dude's face and he swung back with watever that shit was in his hand I thought it was a knife at first but I think it was a plastic pipe or a tube or something that grazed my face. I thought for sure my helmet cam was recording oh man that would have been some yoututbe material. FUCK! then those bitches straight ran off into the night full speed. happened so fast man I thought for sure we'd have them fools handled but they broke out so quick. you could tell they were some meathead jock type punks. I give em credit for just running up on though. we were deep and they got away.
I went straight to my computer and checked out the footage and my tape had run out back at 3rd st. promenade :(
man i'd like to go..really bad..but we're out of the country on the 28th..for like a couple years..those long beach rides are so fun and so are fires!! but im totally hittin up as many rides as I can before we leave..maybe see you guys at the LA rat race!
yeah i know its just too much shit going down with my bday being on friday and people out of town and what nots soo i'll probably repost that ride towards late jan when all the holiday chaos is done peeps are back in town
oh hell yeah! and I just got a new U-lock ...I m so ready to bring some hurt..and I got a new picture for everyone..but my computer is being a bitch and it may take a bit to get it up here..also..Im watching shatner star trek right now..so Ill repost in a bit...AROOOOOOO!!
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=594740
41.5 miles....
44 degrees
10,000 flats
1 velodrome
10 out of control sprinklers
1 jammed crank
3-4 wolfsnacks
1 or more frozen nutsacks.....
sorry to everyone who got lost, I should have made it clear that the bike path turn was not clearly marked... and thanks to Nomad for kicking me down with the compressed air. I ended up getting a flat and it totally saved the day for me.
We got picked up at 3:20AM. The dude at the gas station even though he couldn't let us in was AWESOME. He made us a bag of popcorn which we used for warmth first, then ate lol He also made a cup of coffee. We had called like 5 different cab companies to come, the one which said 15 minutes took an hour and a half then got pissy cuz a mini van pulled in behind him and we took that one instead lol.
Thanks for driving up Andy! Chuy Monica and friend, i hope you guys are alright today :D
Alex from LBC and I made it back to LA shortly after 3am, after we parted ways with y'all at that 7-11. Thanks to the other two fellas we were with (apologies -- I forget yer names) for the group navigation effort. Damn, with my ride to & from Tangs that was a 50-miler. When I mentioned above I was ready to beat some ass I should have known I was referring to my own.
Hope everyone made it home in more or less one piece. Don that route confirms that you are a savage beast who has not left the state of nature. Arooo.
And the velodrome ruled, even if it felt like the north pole.
you get numb to the cold pretty quick. you just have to keep moving. once the sweat starts drying once you stop moving, youre fucking done for. i was wearing shorts for fucks sake!
what up RBI can ou zip up those flicks that I took and send em to me? I'd love to post a bunch from last night! that group shot came out GREAT dude post more
Best ride yet. I had to leave when we got to the Velodrome since I carpooled and my passenger had to be at work a couple of hours after we got to the Velodrome, we cut it close and made it.
Too bad we did not make the 'best of the best' pic but riding buddies for the return trip were also great. Thanks for the pull and flying down Lankersheim was a blast.
ahahah no wheelies on this one......until i figure out how to unclip fast lol.
Yes it was a surprise christmas present from my boss actually. I got a call from beverly hills bike shop saying they had a gift from me and i swore it was a prank call so i grilled the guy...what's your name what are you hours where are you located lol. Finally he told me who bought the bike and my jaw hit the floor. I was there before they opened the next day lol.
Hahahah that's a great name for a ride. just got back. That was officially the inspiration ride. One of the shorter routes..... rodeo to figueroa is a pain in my ass. But the next route we plan- first of the new year will be "the reality check ride" perfect. Lets bust a 50 miler for that one.
Hey there wolf riders.
I’m looking for anyone who was on the wolf pack ride 12/11/06 and saw what happened at the 7 Eleven on Santa Monica Blvd. I’m especially interested in talking to anyone who would be willing to talk to the law about it (they know who the guy is just need more people to ID him). Also I remember someone taking a picture of my face, that photo would be very helpful. If you want to help with this contact me off the forum at; kafkawise@yahoo.com.
Thanks
but i hope you guys have a wonderful ride the start of the new year, denmothers wont be able to make it i am so beat from snowboarding new years eve and tattiya is in hong kong
we were thinking of going, but we are tired from riding all day and are afraid of being left behind, so we are staying up here. plus jordans got a stye and his eye is swollen shut and hes being a baby.
burn one down for a fallen homie.
hiding..thats where i'm at...haha..i'll be there next week...since you personally invited me... no fixie for these rides though...until i become buff...
Bootlegger's main squeeze is acting up. Bottom bracket & crank make grindy-clicking noise. Make this outlaw all nervous inside, especially if he's caught out 25 miles w/ pants down.
not to mention the little fact that I might have to save up and buy something with more than one heavy gear for the likes of a typical Wolfpack haul.
I suggest we do a special WP that's FIXIES ONLY! >:]
don, that wolfpack video is god damn good man. Bonus points for that song selection, thats a gem. It makes those slow motion sections real cool looking. I like how the song is kinda floating and slow and and the riders are flying down hills spinning like mad. And ending with that turn the camera backwards trick...yeah good stuff man.
firemen said it was prolly an "insurance fire".... no one was hurt or even found at the scene. and the cops were asking about the ride.... they were friendly and as always so were we.
Hi... I was curious.... what brand/model headlight is the guy w/ the helmet cam using? That thing is bright! I need a 'to be seen' light. Thanks in advance...
Yeah, or for about 85 you can nab the Nite Ride Road Rat, more than plenty bright, only downside is a heavy ass brick of a battery (not a bottle battery either) on a short ass cable.
I've been sick since the Punk Rock Ride. Yesterday was the first time I rode. Bummed that I missed Wolfpack but I'll be there Monday. Looked like a great ride.
I just want to apologize in advance of tonight to all for the pain and suffering.... the gnashing of teeth.... the pummelment of thigh. just mapped it.
A few of us are talking about meeting up early and finding a spot for some fixed gear flatland foolery before the ride if anyone is interested. Superfish, ride your fuckin fixed man!!
i'd love to go on one of these rides but i'm afraid i'll get left behind and lost in LA again. what's the average speed of these rides, normally? i saw someone said 20, i wasn't sure if that is how it always is.
god damn that was a good route. fucking brutal baby.good to see alot of familiar faces and some new ones... Beatrice. if you read this... you were killing it!! come back next monday.
dave c.. with the hills and stops and downhills we're average around 20mph. there are def times when the climb slows you up hard but it's all worth it when we FLY though. come out.
hey Eric sorry to hear you got left. sounds like you made the best of it though. next time!
Finally woke up at 4PM today and boy am I sore. It was a great ride but my first one since the Punk Rock ride, so I'm paying for it. It didn't help that I'm still recovering from the flu. Somehow last night's ride seemed faster than usual. Great route even if I got lost and finished last. I should change my screen name to DFL since I consistently finish towards the back of the pack.
March the streets
30 or 40 strong
United against
A world that's wrong
The numbers shock you
It's the truth
A mini-army
Of angry youth
Wolfpack! Don't give us any shit
Wolfpack! Or you're gonna get hit
Wolfpack! It's a unity ideal
Wolfpack! Better believe it's real
Fucking proud
To be a part of this
Every kid is my brother here
Shoulder to shoulder
Or back to back
We're united
It's the year of the pack!
Wolfpack! Don't give us any shit
Wolfpack! Or you're gonna get hit
Wolfpack! It's a unity ideal
Wolfpack! Better believe it's real
ahhh man this stuff is fucking old school... pre-militant edge type shit... a left wing approach to observing right wing ideals.... or was it a right wing approach to observing left wing ideals.... I cant remember much due to excess pot smokage.
Yeah, I remember yakking into my mouth a little bit coming over that 6th street bridge because the Tron ride kicked my arse so hard and I could barely keep up... yesterday we were floatin'!
Hey, wait, that was me breaking off at 2nd and Fig. And I was with... you superfish... oh, now I get it.
last night I feel like we rolled fucking tighter than ever....
I dont know if anyone else has this experience but since we've been running Wolfpack on a weekly basis, I feel fucking fit! lol. I feel like I could roll anywhere in LA. quick style..
we're going 52 in a row.... and the last ride will be the Wolfpack Century. sometime in November is when the 52nd ride will occur........... let's see what happens between now and then...........
we missed a bunch a people. it was COLD as fuck though. Bannon, Stacey, Beatrice, Dennis, Chuy, Monica, Tattiya, 11hzrobot, Rich......... Denmothers are slipping!
I know Jack is lurking out there.......... he's an OG Wolfpack........ c'mon brotha I know we're not as fast but it's a good ride! Orlando! come to the pack. aroo.
EXACTLY. c'mon Chuy just wear some warm shit. I'm not fuckin around tonight. I'm bringing my scarf, gloves, sweatshirt. and my "A-Game" hahah the Denmothers need to come out of hibernation already. lol.
i guess a bigger rider like me needs super strong titanium axles and bigger lugnuts :( goddamn i am pissed -- the 2 mile ride thru skidrow on a rattling loose wheel held together with a mini visegrip was a joy.
damn....... good fuckin ride guys. we were all in the pack. even the Coach. blasting non stop. Thanks for the draft Mr. Wise. lemme map this fucker out.
"damn....... good fuckin ride guys. we were all in the pack. even the Coach. blasting non stop. Thanks for the draft Mr. Wise. lemme map this fucker out.'
If the Coach means me, I think it is misspelled shoulda been the 'Couch" cause that where I shoulda been last night. Wise is right, if plan to ride with the Wolfpack, you gotta train for it.
During each ride, I keep on thinking I'm too old for this but come Tuesday morning I can't wait for Monday. I'll keep on trying to keep up even if it kills me. What doesn't kill you, will make you sore the next day.
ooops! sorry. switch it back to the correct spot. LOL!
adrian I'd say we left at about 10:15/10:30 and got back around 1:30/1:45?
"The Couch" hahahaha keep on keeping on Dennis. You were actually keeping up quite nicely. I noticed 93mm is creeping up into the front of the pack too. damn..... time to bring more hustle.
Ok.. I'm interested in trying the Wolfpack. So constant 20mph? Dang... What's the worse that can happen. I fall behind and find my way home... I heard there might be checkpoints? How fit do you have to be to keep w/ you guys? I've got a geared road bike and think I can do it but it just sounds very hardcore.
the route tonight is going to feature a repeat of a CLASSIC. you will reach the highest speeds you've reached and the hills are actually not that bad.
digable it's not really that crazy. peep the video there's some footage of the better moments...
also a note, one of our best and most consistent riders is soon to be leaving us moving east coast status. We gotta send our good friend off with some classics and some brutality. We're gonna miss you on the ride Roger. You'll always be a welcome Rider any time you come back to visit for life. I wish you luck on your travels and your new home!
well, it's not his last ride yet.... so don't worry.... shit.... he's been in the top 5 or 6 on the last couple rides.... he might leave US with an ass whoopin if we're not on it!
Good morning! It's 7:51am and I'm about to go take an insurance exam. Thanks to my man Digable Soul for the escort to the Glendale city limits and the great directions back.
PS> As I predicted - I just got SMOKED - at least I made it past the second stop...
doing a stupid "rest your dick on the bars" thing while going down the first massive downhill at 25+ mph will get your heart pumping.
then it gets steeper and you feel yourself leaning farther and farther forward - thats when you know its time to grab the bars and tuck.
Samhain!! Sup man. I'm glad you made it back for the exam. I was the one in the car trying to catch the pack. I ended up joining on Eagle Rock Blvd. but when the pack took off into Glendale.................... just like that.... you guys vanished into the darkness. Did you guys make a right on Brand or Central?
Like you said Sam... we had our own Wolfpack going... certainly a lot faster that the usual Ridazz rides...
Well... the Wolfpack is not joke and I just got a little taste of it. Now I know what to expect. Ow... Ow... OWOOOoooooo!!
thanks to all the heads that make it out every time. i live and will die for this ride. and to " Be." We got plans.... you're up next... you're going legend status.
Roadblock, nice idea. In fact a few of us have been talking about finding a location for a pre-WP fixie jam sesh. I've been scouting for a good spot, but haven't come up with one yet.
I like the 9pm proposal -- what do the founders think?
there's actually a great parking lot at Fatburger on Vermont and Hollywood. The south east side is rarely filled at that time. we could kick it there get warmed up and roll to Tang's
sorr 11hz. tangs at ten just rolls off the tongue....
lots of fuckin hills on that one. new riders came out. good to meet you guys. Alex fuckin dominated. very good shit. hope to see you guys on the next one. good inspiration!
FYI Beatrice, one of our most dominating riders is racing on Sunday in Brea. I'm rolling down there and have 3 available seats in my car. The race starts at 8am so my love-mobile rolls at 6:30AM from hollywood. hit me on the email if you interested.
weather.com said 80% chance of rain today, but it was bright, sunny, and felt like 80 degrees.
i rear ended a truck going down main st in ventura.
we made a bong out of a water bottle.
it started misting when we got back to ventura around 5.
i will post a gmap soon.
and my birthday is next week!
nice strong finish for the pack last nite and a good last ride.
big ups roll call - don, wolfrida1, troy, citygoblin, cole, supafish, dingo, wise, bannon, baxter, coach, matt, sean, richard, beatriz, richtotheie, thoma$ and everyone else who has run with the pack past and present.
see ya when i see ya...
trickin, kickin... smokin, jokin.... whatever happens happens.... short notice because I'm such an ass.... might make it happen again soon depending on the vibe.
you sure can.... only if you dress like charlie chaplin hang with the hollywood blvd character actors get into a fist fight with chuckie and participate in aggressive begging to the point the cops arrest you. if we can get that on film we're rockin!
really tight pack tonight.... good to see the crew from LAFixed hittin it. To the Beach and Back.... damn after that mulhulland massacre.... this was like a skippy skip across town...
I was walking my dog on the corner of Victory and Riverside Dr and right when my dog was gonna take a crap.... all I hear was, "Clear!!!". The dog looks up (forgetting to crap) and I just see the pack fly by me. You guys cleared the intersection like nothing. I remained to see if the cub pack was gonna pass by. One rider came back to see if anyone (I think it was Studiodrone) was behind. Dope seeing the ride pass by. Lates
"I was walking my dog on the corner of Victory and Riverside Dr and right when my dog was gonna take a crap.... all I hear was, "Clear!!!". The dog looks up (forgetting to crap) and I just see the pack fly by me. You guys cleared the intersection like nothing."
Double up on that. Thanks for all the photos you took, they look great and are appreciated. The rides keep getting better and better, the pack tighter and tighter, thanks for all the new Gs, and OGs, that have been showing up week after week to make monday night something to look foward to. Can't thank everyone enough. Give it up to Tony, the roadmaster, and Will, fist time out handled it.
digablesoul, yeah that was me comin back for a looksy for fallen fodder. not a wise idea.
as for pictures, to catch up even for a moment with the front of the pack with your camera out is almost impossible. especially when they are chilling at 27 mph. its a great feeling when you do get a slingshot out front but then seconds later the pack flys by you, its like oh shit when you realize, where the fuck is everybody? put the camera away, hustle, hustle, hustle. why didnt I listen to where the meeting point is?
No better way to start your week. Glad to be back at it.
I was looking at all the pictures from the beginning and i think we should really get the group pics from every ride somewhere. And wow studiodrome i don't know how i didn't see this before but i LOVE this picture. WTF are those things in the background?
I just want to give a shout to Orange 20 for being open at fucking 11:30pm last night. I busted my tire by 3rd and fairfax, limped over to the 20 - somehow I knew they'd be there knocking back some beers - got my new tire and rolled to rejoin the pack on it's way back from commerce at the 6th street bridge. I'd never gotten that roadside perspective before.... waiting waiting then off in the distance lights flickering.. a dark cloud with sparks of lightning coming at me full steam!
deeeeng, wolfpack keeps such an aggro pace! respect! you're all my heroes! i thought i was doin alright till i got dusted 10 miles into it. i guess everyone was just warming up. im waaay too happy that i finished. it looks like quite a few dropped. i can't make it out to week20 but imma come to watch the dragrace. when i come back week21 or 22, hopefully ill be able to hustle for the first 20 miles before i start laggin. i can't promise i'll bring himalayan but i'll probably have some sorta eightch-aye-sheeeeesh. it was really good meeting everybody.
Great ride tonight! 2 accidents, one almost accident (lean on me) and 37.8 miles! WOO HOO! Sweet Fixie Tricks too!
Shawn- I hope everything is ok with your bike. Try and come to the Cubpack!
Also it can't be emphasized enough...
Look behind, THEN change your line.
Theres an awful lot of spuratic moving around and it's only a matter of time before someone really gets hurt. Speed bursts and hustle times are great but make sure you are in the clear and won't cause others to veer off and whatnot.
Join NOW while we are still riding slow. I know everyones holding back since I can still keep up. In a couple weeks everyone will be back up to speed and it's DFL again for me.
yo... I fucking hate that I missed a wolfpack ride!! but I LOVe the ride out here in the Netherlands... see you guys on saturday night! damn......... we all need to get to the netherlands and wolfpack this shit!!
Thank You, everyone who came out to the Wollfpack, drag race, all the riders who competed, a special thanx for bringing their A game. To Orange Twenty, X-large, and Ambiguous Clothing, for providing the prizes, and last but not least, we thank the parking enforcement, and L.A.P.D. for showing their support.
Does anybody know if Josh is OK after his crash? I was concerned for him when I rolled up on the scene. I didn't see it happen, but I gather he took a decent hit to the dome.
C-HobGob: Josh was at Tang's when we got back and seemed a little stirred and shaken, but I did see him both blink and speak. Actually, I asked him how he was feeling and he said, he was OK, but feelin' some hurt. I'll bet he's got a sore crown today but hopefully that's all. - Richard
Shit...that is a BAD injury for bike people. Sorry it happened, man. The same thing happend to me last year. I sprained both of my wrists in the last teacher v.s. student softball game at the end of the school year. I was off of my bike for almost two months...I couldn't even turn the knob on my bedroom door for a couple of days. It's okay, though....I caught the winning catch before I knew how badly hurt I was. Get well, mang.
one hell of a ride tonight guys... the last wolfpack ride I went on was the Encino ride back in November or December. All I remember was it was like 35 degrees that night. Tonight was awesome. Cant wait till next week.
Great ride! The race back to Tangs was awesome, a big lead group running a double paceline going at around 30 mph. There were a few other chase groups but we didn't have the numbers. We got close but we couldn't bridge the gap. It took us around 2 1/2 hours to get to Encino and 40 minutes to get back.
Here are the stats from my GPS for those who care. 41 miles total, 16 mph average speed, 1064 ft total ascent. 37.5 mph top speed, and I burned 2873 calories.
danm only 16mph average? does it count time that we were stopped for the crashes?
fuckin cursed ass route..... 2 crashes, 1 hit and run, sheared deraillieur......... that balboa/ventura blvd to hollywood/highland route was KILLER though.
does anyone know how to get in touch with the hit and run rider. sorry I forgot his name but he's a regular and a good rider at that. would like to know how he's doing. his bike frame was bent. the fire dept was kind enough to transport his bike to the station.
16 mph does include part of the time we were stopped. My computer stops recording if my bike is still but I kept on moving all throughout the ride. The average includes the 15 minutes I was doing figure 8s in the parking lot of te Sepulveda bus stop. We were travelling between 21 - 23 mph for most of the route.
That was a very fun ride. I'm glad we got back in town so quick because I didn't get home until after 3am! It was worth it though. I sure wasn't expecting to get to ride the track!
It's that time again. I had to fly to San Jose this morning but the bike is in the car at the work so I'll be ready. I going to be tired so take it easy. Remember if I pass you, you're not trying hard enough.
last nights hustle was awesome. was thinking we were gonna loop north when we got to hill and 6th but then wolfrider yelled out "next stop, commerce". haha. that was awesome.
thanks for the draft yall.
adrian
p.s. bananas and gummy bears make your calves happy at the 25 mile mark.
Last night ride was great. Great job Stacy for keeping up considering you've been off a bike for 2 weeks and running on 4 hours of sleep. Also Bea you were missed. Women of the Wolfpack rule.
Also don't call them Denmothers or Cubpack since they can ride as fast and hard as any of y'all.
Has anyone heard the outcome of Becka's Hospital visit, She'd probably be embarrassed I'm bringing it up here but I wanna know how she's doing. Anyone Knows, Nasty Nate, please fill me in.
I.F. is a great company that shouldn't have a problem replacing her fork. I've never seen a fork catastrophy like that before. Rebecca kicks bike ass and is a super strong rider, but freak things unfortunately happen.
Does anyone know what hospital she is in?
Rebecca was staying at the Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center.
She should be getting out today.
The prognosis, while not even close to good, is that she suffered a broken nose and had fractured the back of her skull near the start of her vertebrae.
Thankfully she was wearing her helmet. Otherwise it would have been much worse.
The two options Rebecca had for treatment were to either A) Have the broken part of her skull fused to her vertebrae. Doing this she'd be back to normal in just a couple of weeks but wouldn't be able to tilt her head up ever again. or B) Wear a Halo for 3-4 months and regain full use of her neck.
Thankfully she's going with option B and will deal with being immobilized for the next few months.
Now, about her accident. She crashed as a result of her wheel getting lodged in the crack between two planks on the pier. Basically she went flying down the hill and came to a screeching halt when her front wheel became stuck.
She told me this herself.
As far as her bike just falling apart as some have speculated, anyone who knows about how steel bikes fall apart knows this isn't the case. Her fork bent as a result of the combination of the wheel getting stuck while having so much momentum from coming down the hill. Proof of this is that her front tire is blown and the wheel is still perfectly true. Judging by the amount of force that went into the impact plus the fact that Rebecca was riding a 'cross bike with a heavy duty fork, it's safe to say no bike including that NJS stuff would have taken that impact.
And, as far as calling IF maybe you should let Rebecca do that herself considering she actually knows those guys. I asked her about her bike once and she told me all about how IF measured her out at the factory when she was back home in Boston. She said Trystan hooked her up with that service.
Finally, for those of you, especially the "cool kids" on lafixed.com, crashes like this aren't cool. Nor do they make you more of a bad ass by default because you were on a ride where someone got hurt. As a "real cyclist" I can tell you that nobody thinks crashing is cool or should be something to joke about.
So, please. Wear your helmet and be safe out there. While Aerospoke wheels might look cool to some, they look better on a bike not on a wheel chair.
And stay tuned. From what I hear, a benefit for Rebecca is in the works.
The video I've got is called 'Hell on Wheels', it's a German documentary of Erik Zabel's (T-Mobile) attempt at winning the TdF. Good video, give great insight on how hard it is to win the TdF. I'll bring it anyways.
yo. that shit yesterday was SIIIIIICCKKKKKK everyone. the bike looks fucking fabulous. Studiodrone thanks for filming that footage. the crazy part about the wolfpack bike is that it's a highly tuned and very ride-able work of art!
Wolfpack was invited to build a bicycle for a charity auction being conducted by Puma which will benefit the Bicycle Kitchen and 5 other non profits in the US and Canada.
The bicycle was to be made strictly of recycled used bicycle parts. The only new components allowed are things like tires, tubes and sop forth.
The bike is a LEGIT ass fixie. Painted, tuned and solid as fuck. Everyone got in on this one and worked into the night. Thanks to all who participated, Will, Aldo, Beatriz, Cole, Tony Z, Hayden, Studiodrone, SC Nomad, Mike Bike, Aaron shit the whole crew was there tuning pressing wrenching sweating and bleeding (literally haha) The paint job and type treatments by Cole and the final touch - the cross bar logo hand written by LA's Revok MSK.
I have no clue what other teams participated but if anyone is in the market for a seriously ride-able fixie/art piece they should hit up the auction when it happens. I'll keep ya posted.
Hooray for phallic bike routes. That's what happens when no girls show up to wolfpack: we ride around until we've traced out a giant dong. Fucking pathetic.
That was so funny last night, we had just finished scouting for friday, were stanging there talking when Eric Hair was like, "hey here comes some nut on a fixie going crazy fast... wait it's a shitload of bikes", i'm like dude it's wolfpack. then we started hollering at you guys. cool to see y'all.
thanks to wolfpack for my winter training bonus rides... its part of the reason i'm killing it on the bike this season :) and thanks for sharing your routes too
if any of you get out to lake san antonio on the central coast check out the wildflower triathlon bike course... its the sickest 56 miles in the world, my legs are still hurting :P
yo me and Josh are looking for two people to race with us in the Cash Race. i know its short notice but if anyone is intrested hit me up here or email me (justin) at frontlinestudios@mac.com
peace
yeah great ride . . til I dropped my chain just after leaving the gas station on hollywood way. I was stopped for less than 30 seconds, but it was too much to overcome. I even tried going direct over Barham to catch up . . .
just enjoying some hearty oatmeal while mapping my own route:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=955473 which of course does not include the ten-mile roundtrip from my place to Tangs and back.
unfortunately I cannot make the next two mondays . . . y'all ride safe and see you in June!
Man. I felt great last night! I've said it before, but I think that route was my favorite so far. No wrecks-tight drafts-glorious green lights. Sweeeet.
That was a burner.
Those of us that fell off the pack just got dusted.
A lone rider against wind and hills is no match for the wolfpack train.
Hardest Wolfpack in a while !!!
It was a great route, too bad I was sick. It was torture following you guys cause we wanted to ride so bad. Even in a car, I had problems keeping up withe Wolfpack.
Jesus Cristo, you have GG Allin vinyl? Translation: you went that far out of your way to find incomprehensible recordings of vile punk performed by a degenerate who regularly shat on stage? Goddam son!
True story: GG stayed at my friends house in Santa Barbara in the early 90s. Apparently off stage he was a pretty decent dude -- he reportedly even did the dishes before he left.
we were in whittier last night.... I think we could have ridden another 10-15 miles.... maybe on the second trip out we'll reach deeper into your area.
Yeah we could of gone further. I have a sweet route, for a die hard ride. out to the san fernando valley, all the way to sepulveda, up sepulveda passing the getty center, to like santa monica blvd and back.
heres the pedometer. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=979236
its says its 36.5, probably more like 40 miles in reality.
hardest part is sepulveda, but not as insane as some might think.
Maybe next time, you all could ride to Sc_Nomad's house for some sleepy hollow water before the ride back!! The Hustle is force to be reckoned with, for sure.
just stopping by to give big shouts to the pack from ATL. yall are doing BIG THINGS! the drag races, charity bikes...you guys make a brotha wanna fly in for the weekend! anyway what up big don, cole, supafish, citygob, studio, wise, troy, matt, sc and the rest of the pack.
ROGER! what up man! fly in anytime we'll get you set up with a spot to crash. and There's an empty space up near the front of the pack reserved for you. how is the ATL life..? good to hear from you.
Hey Roger, howsit???? We miss you man!!! The pack has grown but still is true to it's roots. You need to come out and ride with us, maybe for an anniversary ride or our next big event. The events are great fun and have that Wolfpack stylee. Hope to see you soon.
Yo Roger what's up man! Shout outs to the guy who was there through all the butt-ass cold winter rides, back when there was only 3 or 4 of us doing this thing fixed. Holla!
Hope all is well with you. Thanks for checking in on us.
what up david...yeah i'll be checking in from time to time to see how yall are doing...yo don..they left the venice pier gate unlocked again???? man those city workers are slippin. HA!
yeah man, really lucky for us to find it open once again. this time around the weather was a lot nicer on the pier... hows the scene out there in the ATL? cycle friendly? bike paths? mean drivers? fixies?
The race results look great!
Even a bottom finisher can beam with pride at those professional looking stats.
.....................
Sadly, I just scored a teaching gig across town on Monday nights for the next 10 weeks !!! FUCK! Oh well. Hopefully I'll work up the gumption to ride to Westchester every week so I can still hang on to the pack when I return in August.
anyone wanna form a team for the wolfpack ride on the 8th of next month? its a team event.. and i dont know enough riders in the licty of angels yet.. but i wanna do this race!!! come on ya'll!! we get goody bags and dog tags!
Yo RB & WR1
can you give me the heads up if you are doing a westside route
in the next coupla months?
I get off work at 10pm and i am working in westchester
that would give me plenty of time to meet you guys in venice or SM and catch the 2nd 1/2 of the ride.
I've been missin' my wolfpack.
Hulstlin' to work is just not quite the same.
That's what the Encino ride is about!!! SPEED SPEED SPEED, and the occasional smoke break.
Late night! I had to sleep for an hour today on my lunch break, and now i'm sooo hungry.
the route back from Encino. an hour including the short break at hollywood and highland......... I wake up in the morning, thighs trembling, thinking about whether I could have pushed myself just a little more to stay with the break away pack..... sigh.... you cant ever slow up or even think about hitting 711....my legs havent been this sore in a long time. I gave it my ALL to keep up with the break-away pack. you cant slow down one second or you get left in the cold..... like I did around vineland :) next time I will just fall over on the street somewhere up there.... or just try to block mr. wise in. hahaha
ps how funny that the cops rolled up and told us to go faster on the speaker. jokers!
I love Banksy. My favorite street artist in fact.... but I did not agree with him using an elephant in his exhibit. by virtue of him renting the elephant he was putting money into and therefore supporting "circus culture" which is cruel to animals.
Dick Neptune and Chet Bearclaw may be interested in showing up to one of these soon. May God have mercy on the legs of those who pull into their pacelines.
even though that was the most messed up Wolfpack I have been on, gotta love it. doomed from start to finish. respect to Tony for stopping for 7 flat tires.
Thanks for everybodys patience last night, that was a long hard rough ride and yah thanks Tony, for fixing 7 flats. Rasta Rog, dope route next time we will get it right. Ryno, appericate you pulling my ass all the home and Cole I never saw you on the way home but can't wait to see the footage. Next week will be the shit so if you had a rough time last night, come out next week and make up for it. Sorry for getting everyone home at 3:30pm sometimes you got to go to the edge. RoadBlock you the man.
Yeah every so often we get a real real rough one........ Seems to happen on full moon nights. 2 crashes, 7 flats, one run over 10 year old, hahaha the look on that kids face was priceless just before impact. It went from "nanny nanny nanny hahaha" to "ahhhhhhhh!!". Kids, its not funny or advise-able to jump out into the street and play chicken with 30 fast paced "cyclists" don't worry, he was biodegrade-able Lol. Judging by the bent on that rim he's gonna be hurting today....
Good to see annie back out again!
Silverlake, downtown, colliseum, the forum, LAX culver city sm blvd back......
okay roadblock, it's time to put poo-poo in your cocoa puffs!
i stuck it to a little cocoa puff last night when he tried to play chicken in the street. now i'm learning to accept my consistantly bruised body.
brian and luca: i hope you guys are okay, too.
hope you guys are okay that was one fuckin silly ass reason for a crash those kids shouldnt have even been out that late at night.
also sorry about the confusion at 2nd st. that was my bad I didnt realize we lost a bunch of people we took a rolling stop and didnt wait long enough. wont happen again. next ride will be more packed up. thankyou to Rasta Raj for the insane route.
Dear Wolfpack,
It was very nice meeting you last Monday. You surely know how to show a fellow a pleasant evening. However, I have something I must say. I am usually not this forward, and am really a very shy person, but....
YOURE SO GOD DAMN GORGEOUS GIRL WHATCHU WEARIN CAN I SEE YOU NAKED OOH YOU A FREAK YOU MAKE ME WANNA TOUCH MY . I AM COMIN *#y(w&*(@~ &@(Q Q#RY*(*(#)Q
.so what are you doing next Monday? Do you like bearclaws?
i can't remember the last time in my life that monday was my favorite day of the week. it was either chicken nugget day in the cafeteria or when looking forward to andre the giant stomp some ass. woof.
loving the new shit RASTA RAJ is brining. at every stop, DROP and gimme 10, 20, 30 pushup whatever ya got! we're building the militia into a force to be reckoned with muhahaha!
I want to go to SF and ride a saturday, and roll back sunday, the problem is I dont have a truck. I do have mad gas money though if anyone has a truck and wants to make a trip or a bunch of us get together and rent a van I would be down. Mid September possibly.
man id love to go and we can use my truck too. the only thing is i have class saturdays til 5pm. is leaving late saturday and coming back sunday or even early monday an option?
i just want to say "we", as a group, should be more aware of pedestrians, as we would like drivers to be more aware of us. that poor dude got knocked onto his back by a rider, and his empty big gulp cup went flying. did anyone stop to see if he was alright?
tony z: thanks tires, the draft, and the .07oz 'microwave' jacket.
We all need to talk about it and figure out how many people want to come, and how many transports we need to get together. I was thinking the 15th and 16th of Sept.
im gunna be going up to sf the weeknd of the 7th for my birthday, and plan on doing some major riding.. any of you cats gunna be up there.. for sures hit this message back with a reply.
wish i could make the ride this coming monday.. but ill be riding to canada all day and then some tuesday! fuck yes for canada.
if anyone has the money to buy a plane ticket last minute.. and wants to join two dudes on the ride... hit me back.
leaving sunday evening for seattle via plane.
ride out monday morning, arrive in vancouver tuesday afternoon, chill til thursday morning than start the ride back, arrive friday around noon.
if anyone is random enough to jump on this.. let me know.
i'm laughing, david. what the frick-a-frack happened?
you missed the photo shoot on the pier, me and roadblock barking, banana peel on adam's head, guys jumping, ladies jumping, roadblock rolling his tongue, and someone pooping off of the venice pier.
okay, the last part didn't happen, but if it did, kenneth did it!
i don't know if it was the lunar eclipse, or if i stepped on some serious karmic toes, but what the fuck. potholes are like small windows to cycling hell. first, the double flat with a broken tube valve thrown in for kicks. then i guess we (about ten of us lycra-wearing, gear-shifting assholes) missed the turn at lincoln and just kept cruisin towards venice at about 26/27 mph. tony and ken go--will, paul and i go to chase. will hits a mad pothole and goes down onto the asphalt slip-n-slide; paul smashes into him; i go straight into paul and will and bikes and was airborn pretty instantly. broken derailleurs, bent bars, lots of blood ensued. some incompetent traffic officers (who it turns out do not even carry the most basic first aid in their vehicle, nor are they capable of taking a traffic report) stood around. then we had to get the cops and the paramedics involved so that a proper report could be filed. we plan on taking the city to task for the pothole. so we missed the leaping and the pooping. but will had an angel waiting in the wings to load all the bikes in a car. i hope that the rest of the ride was sweet. i don't think any of us are going to work today. better than hitting kids that jump out into the middle of the road, i guess.
you bloody bastards!!! wow!
dada, i'm glad you're alright and still as sassy as before.
hitting a kid asshole is pretty satisfying, but if there was blood involved i would have been pissed.
i hope the others are alright, as well.
i feel bad missing the last 2 weeks. been mad busy with school. wanted to roll out last night but i know from past rides that a full moon + the Wolf Pack = HURT! nothing but cashes and flats and from the stories im reading sounds like i was right! ill be out next monday for sure.
so does anyone get ill deals on helmets or know where such deals are to be found? that rek on mon cracked mine in many places...also, wear helmets--no matter what the wiki says, it saved my headpiece.
man, giro wants you to send the helmet in, plus your orig. cash receipt, plus a detailed letter describing the accident, in which case you "may be eligible for credit towards a replacement." F that. hopefully the city will buy me a new one. it's about time cyclists make them pay for the shitty conditions of their streets.
Just posting again about WP riding in SF. I know studiodrome is down roadblock is down, just wandering if anybody else wanted to roll, we are trying to get a caravan going. Let me know. We are trying for end of Sept. early October. Leave on a early on Saturday, come back Sunday night short and sweet.
so wolfrider,
iz going to try to head up to the SF next weekend. probably late thurs or early fri in order to catch the 15th CM anny. also the us national track champys are the 1st weekend in october and i don't wanna miss that. it would make it much kewler if we had a pack up there to make the nights speedy. coz 10giga ridazz is neet, but speed beats numbers anyday. can we get some dogs? i know of a couple sweet rides in the east bay, if anyone was into riding in the morning and howling at night.
we are approaching the 52nd WEEK of the Hustle Ride. which if you'll all remember is going to be the Wolfpack Hustle All City Century.
ALL CITY LOS ANGELES in one night starting at Tang's Donut of course.... yup, unless I hear ear deafening howls of dissapproval it WILL start at the usual 10pm. this ride is going to be a little different in that we WILL publish the route before hand. But I want some feed back from y'all. where to? now is your chance to put up some favorite spots we've hit some landmarks we've desecrated, some fences and cutty spots we've broken into some stretches of roadway, some bridges, some piers.... I want to make sure I'm not forgetting anything! aroo.
Here's a potential route--covers lots of classic spots:
Tang's to the Velodrome
SaMo Pier
Venice Pier
Dockweiler Beach
The Forum
Whittier
Commerce
6th Street Bridge
110 Bike Path
Silverlake Reservoir
Shakespeare Bridge
Mileage says 100.3, but I mistakenly set the start point about a half mile from Tang's.
I like that route! only thing is figuring out how we can incorporate more of the middle groundd like hollywood blvd and maybe some La Cienega action.....
Instead of the bike path, we could hit Hollywood and take the Cahuenga Pass over. We've only gone southbound, but the northbound side of Cahuenga (on the other side of the freeway) is much smoother pavement, a more consistent grade and actually has a white-striped shoulder with plenty o' room for biking.
Hey two wheels I'm going to set up a Wolfpack map account that we can share and tweek maps on.... the new google maps tool is real nice and edit-able. we can tweek together! (the good kind of tweeking)
as long as we do 100 plus miles i'm cool... we have to be true to 10p.m and tangs. we might have to <3 hollywood and colorado over whittier... though i think commerce might be essential. the encino drome seems like a must... though i'll ride to hell and back, so dont quote me on anything, yet...
I would like to add that the reason we are publishing the route ahead of time (just this once) is so that people that may not be able to do the entire route can still come out and ride at least part of the route. 100 miles is quite a bite to chew for some
hey all, bad news big Sean C. got into an accident over by Rowena and Hyperion on Wednesday... He broke his hip and will be out for at least 4 months. It was the drivers fault from what I understand. He's being transferred to UCLA today. keep him in your thoughts.....
Sean C. from what I understand, will be getting out of the hospital today. The people that caused the accident are getting "waffley" about thier responsibility though the driver left two incriminating messages on Sean's girlfrieends voice mail which I transferred over to CD archive last night. He is attempting to find two of the witnesses to bolster his case. they saw the accident and were on hand to carry him off the street but didnt leave their info...
yo! this weekend in SF was a fucking BLAST! We got a little Hustle going with a few of the locals in Oakland and again in DTSF. Tell you one thing, the mile-age out there is much smaller and the streets are just plain more bicycle friendly. we rolled through those streets on the QUICK. there are bike paths sharrows small streets, all kinds of shit to help a cyclist out. when we got to the bar big Jaime, FUZZ PC and the Cub Campers and I was just getting warmed up. looking to do more I was talkin to some locals about continuing with a lil loop through oakland. someone said yeah head up to yada street and around. I siad how far? "oh about 2-3miles" I was talkin more like a lil 20 mile loop. could they suggest a route? and the locals looked at me like I was out of my mind. that's when I realized that dare I say we probably ride some of the meanest streets in the world here in LA for a few reasons: think about it, barely any bike lanes, everything is far as fuck, and snobby SUV and sport cars are moving fast and not only dont give a fuck about cyclists, they hate them with a passion... at least in SF or other cities they have a significant population of commuter cyclists.... over here we have basically our little community....
So, suffice to say, we have the SF'ers by the chain in the general mileage department?
I could've seen that one coming.
Seems like down here, 10-20 miles/day is the norm at the very least.
Couple in the zigzags and headwinds and you have yourself a field
day.
Wish I could join up tonight, but my rides down there are poor sports when it comes to "non-powered" vehicles.
I bummed that I missed the ride. sick like a dog it was nice to see the pack fly by my place at about one in the morning a single tear rolled from my eye.
aw. hope you feel better soon hayden. them colds is no fun. it was good to be back out there with the crew drafting again. i noticed a definite increase in stamina and cadence of each rider. it's awesome to witness that kind of individual improvement. good times.
I turn the corner at Victory and Burbank and I see the lights going over the 5 freeway. Then I See you guys go by ikea and I'm like hell yeah, I caught up. Then I make a wrong turn into a dead end street at the mall and have no clue which way everybody went. Damn, thats what I get for feeling sick at laurel canyon and ventura.
the ride last night was a Brutal Equation... Loved it. Zipping down laurel canyon at 40mph is insane. that 29mph pace line was pretty insane as well... thanks to the crew who lead that shit...
I loved that route last night.... Laurel Canyon into the valley is quite a ride.... san fernando is a nice new stretch to add to the list of downhills we got in the arsenal of routes!
Once again, what I did of it was awesome. Being sick for a week + brand new single speed = bailing midway through the laurel canyon climb. See you next week!
hey guys, i was new there on monday night, and i must say i liked the ride. it was pretty intense, especially after riding my daily 30 miles (round trip to and from work).
v. cool
i have a ticket to see queens of the stone age next monday night. but, i think i'll skip that. yeah. see you all next monday.
yargh! that was a nice ride last night guys, until my rear wheel got whacked by that pot hole. i thought i was just wearing out when the group started pulling ahead of me on that hill...turns out i was riding my brake half the time.
anyone know of any good wheels? man, the century next week is gonna be sweet!
I'm curious.
What sort of average speed do y'all usually keep on any given length of the ride?
I still don't own a light, road-rig yet, and all my riding is done on that 35 lb Montague/Hummer folder y'all might've seen me on.
Along with 15-20 lbs in a messenger bag, 10-15lbs in the rear rack trunk, I could usually churn out 12-18 mph on variance on a good day.
I'm assuming with most of the excess baggage dropped, I could then tackle one of these rides with little-no problems.
avg about 18 mph, but that's not the figure you should be worried about, what you should be worried about is the 'typical' speed for a flat stretch, which is usually around 25-28mph by my measure (using my cycling computer). going down laurel canyon blvd i measured 44 mph.
i probably get 18mph average cause whenever we stop i like to keep rolling around in circles, going slow. plus there are hill climbs to consider, those always drag down the average.
just numbers to consider. last week was actually my first ride and we had a guy on a dual shock mountain bike w/ the knobby tires and i don't remember seeing him after going over the mountain. but he kept up real well on the flat stretch in the beginning.
Well, then that doesn't seem to bad to bear.
I'm still going to wait until I get myself a lighter road rig though.
I just don't want to smoke myself out trying to keep my tank rolling at road-rig speed.
Hey guys,
read your hustle forum here. I'd like to do a hustle but I think I'd be blown of the planet. Don't think I could keep up. Maybe with a bit of traiing...
The time to ride is now. The ride just gets faster and faster as the weeks go by. When we first started, there were individuals who would ride around 25 MPH for short bursts but overall the average was around 15 MPH. Now the WP has learned the efficiencies of riding in a group and the peloton riding in excess of 30 MPH for long flat stretches is not uncommon.
My suggestion is have a mechanically sound bike and start riding with us. You might get dropped the first few tries but you'll be able to keep about at around the third or fourth ride. Trying to train alone won't really help that much, the only way to get faster is riding with the group.
Coming out on Nov 5 might even be a good idea since the WP will most likely riding tempo for the Century. You can stop as we will get close to the start/finish at around the middle of the ride.
I am thinking of moving the Badger Song to Wednesday or Thursday night. We have some fun impromptu rides on Thursdays. I would like to ride with you guys (wolfpack) on Mondays. But, I won't dis my crew. I will have to talk to them first. Some of them want to ride the hustle. And, there is a new fastish ride that starts on Tuesday nights in Claremont. This way, you can ride fast all week:
Monday: wolfpack
Tuesday: Cub Scouts and Juggernauts (the new Claremont ride)
Wednesday: The Badger Song?
Thursday: Cub Camp The Badger Song?
Friday Ridazz, Critical Mass (multiple cities)
and Ride arc. and
other ridazz related rides on Saturday and Sunday.
What do you think Badger Song?
What does everyone else think?
If the badger song wants to keep it on Monday, I'm not changing it.
30mph over flat stretches sounds pretty doable at my level.
Of course the mtb I have now usually creaks and squawks when nearing 25mph!!
Bike's mechanically sound, but I'm definitely not sporting that on a WP night.
Okay---are you talking about the rumor that has gotten out that the Badger Song consisit mainly of Mountain Goats? If this is the case, you are correct, bentsrider. But, what I want to know is (mainly from the Badger Song), can we make this change and still be the tight knit crew we have grown to be. I would also like to know if other riders from wolfpack would be down to ride on the Badger Song if it is on a non-wolfpack day.
HonestlyXPC, you should have come out to the Badger Song before you made you descision to ride with the wolfpack. We have some grueling rides--and some fast rides, not that comming out would have changed your mind. But yeah, fuck yeah....if we change the day of the Badger Song ride, we will have another rider who is down for the hard stuff.
Might be a good idea to change days. Wolfpack Hustle and Badger Song have one thing in common and that is you will be pushed to the limit. Other than that, they are different rides.
WP Hustle is a very fast ride through the city, a lot of traffic lights, mostly flat with the occasional hill. Part of the WP Hustle mystic is the city itself. 40 or so cyclists taking over the car capital of the world.
While I have not ridden Badger Song, I am very familiar with the terrain, I ride the area at least twice a week. The rolling terrains of the foothills will take it's toll. It seems that all roads that run south to north will have a long steady climb. It seems to be a perfect complement to WP riders who want to work on climbing.
Also, I've ridden the Juggernaut Ride for the first time last night and that ride has great potential.
yah i totally thing u WP guys should come out to one of our Badger Song rides. We'll make it a special GMR Edition just for u guys. Or we can hit this other nice hill called Via Verde. It's all good times.
GMR to GRR to Mt Baldy Rd. all the way to the ski lifts is one of the best climbs in southern California. I also do a nice loop out that way most Saturdays, east out Gladstone west on Sierra Madre.
So, on either the WolfPack or the Badger Song, do you guys come in a full, cycling "get-up"?
Or, is that just a few of you and everyone else pulls a "come as you are"?
'Cause if I started coming out to these, I was going to wear my SG-1 mission gear, or something comfy.
Wear something that will allow you to ride a fast 30 to 40 mile ride comfortably. Also keep in mind that you might be riding shoulder to shoulder at fast clip, do not wear anything that might snag on other peoples bikes.
When we first started, wearing regular shorts were the norm, but as we progressed, most wear bike specific shorts/bibs under their shorts. Technical gear serves a purpose specially now that the WP is starting to realize the merits of proper technique and equipment and getting a lot faster. I won't be surprise to see WP specific technical gear in the future.
not trying to hijack the thread....I will probably make this ride next Moday. The badger song is moving. Wednesday or Thursday is still up in the air. We'll figure it out.
Wise, yeah. That is a climb I have not attempted. I've done gmr to gmm to baldy...and Azusa to East fork to GMM. But I've never tried the last few miles to the ski lifts. That is brutal.
Yeah...nice loop. Out Gladstone and back on Sierra Madre. Fun.
