Let's all try to fit into our wild crazy raver biker clothes and bring back 2008.
I was dreamin' when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes astray
But when I woke up this mornin'
Could have sworn it was ciclavia day
The sky was all purple
There were people bikin' everywhere
Tryin' to bike from the destruction
You know I didn't even care
They say two thousand zero, eight, party over,
Oops, out of time!
So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 20-zero-eight!
I was dreamin' when I wrote this
So sue me if I go too fast
But life is just a party
And parties weren't meant to last
War is all around us
My mind says prepare to fight
So if I gotta die
I'm gonna listen to my bike tonight
They say two thousand zero, eight, party over,
Oops, out of time!
So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 20-zero-eight!
20-0-8!
If you didn't come to party
Don't bother knockin' on my door
I got a lion in my pocket
And baby, he's ready to roar
Yeah, everybody's got a bike
We could all ride any day
But before I'll let that happen
I'll dance my life away
They say two thousand zero, eight, party over,
Oops, out of time!
(We're runnin' outta time)
So tonight we're gonna party like it's 20-0-8!
Say, say,
Two thousand zero, eight, party over,
Oops, out of time!
So tonight we're gonna party like it's 20-0-8!
Alright, it's 20-0-8!
You say it, 20-0-8!
20-0-8!
20-0-8! Don't stop, don't stop, say it 1 more time!
20-0-8!

Bikes are sort of all done.
My kid goes to a school with about 400 kids. She and maybe two other kids at that school know how to ride a bike reasonably well. It is like that at every school I am familiar with, and with kids I meet in middle school and even high school.
What these little prisoners report is that riding a scooter is about all they can manage, and many 10 year old and older kids I know can barely manage that.
The good news is that a couple of afternoons tooling around the neighborhood is usually enough to get a kid mobile and relatively safe on a scooter - so there is hope. But bikes?
Just the culture of "parenting" alone is a HUGE barrier to entry for kids. So yeah, in a sense bikes are "done" - but no more "done" than they have been a few other times in U.S. history. The device is still a marvel and so long as the idea and skills to manufacture them is not lost, there will always be people using them.
I think the current crop of late-30's and up riders will be keeping the flame alive for the current elementary school aged kids children to get a heaping helping of bicycling. so, let's all meet up in 2040 and trade notes on what is working, to sell shares in our bike enterprises, and light cigars with car dealer brochures from bankrupt manufacturers.
