LACM TICKETS

@LACM
Were you treated fairly? What did you witness?
If your friend(s) got a ticket, were they treated fairly?
@ Sgt. Krumer,
Can you give us a break down of how many tickets were given out, and what the citations were for? Were there arrests?
reply
30 citations
1 arrest
.....
from what i have gathered it was mostly for crossing over into oncoming traffic and drinking in public.. a few underage related violations
the arrest i understand was for felony vandalizm; some dude launched a bike at a police car... LMFAO...
why the fuck would any one do that?.. f*ck the fact it was a police car, but imagine what could happen to you're bike? bent rims. broken spokes. bent bars. or chain rings..
so yeah. hopefully Krumer lets us know official numbers

Concerning the arrest....
He did not launch the bike at the car. As the police officers pulled up very close to him, squeezing him between the curb and the car, they ordered him to drop the bike. As he let go of the bike, the police officer from the passenger side forcefully opened the door, allowing the bike to hit the car door. (As there was no other place for the bike to go, since they pulled up so closely to him.)
I would say it was more like police officer's door hitting the bike rather than the bike hitting the car.
I believe the person who was arrested was unfairly targeted due to his dark complexion. He was pulled over for running the red light while following the police officer's vehicle. However, he was not the only one. An entire group of people followed that vehicle at that intersection.
Please help stop such unfair treatment.
Thank you.

1 misdmeaner warrant arrest
1 arrest for felony vandalism on the police car when person being cited threw bike at car....I saw that one person disputed our account of what happened.

How Many Tickets for:
- 2x Yellow Line Violations?
- Running Red Lights?
- Corking?
- Lights?
- Helmet?
If there were any Light/Equipment/Helmet tickets, were they accompanying a traffic violation or issued individually?

and all of a sudden we see the cops on their bikes take a u-turn and started chasing after him, it was freaking awesome

Guaranteed that there is well over 100 citations written. I saw cops going after smaller groups of riders with no front headlight. I personally saw at least 40-50 people getting stopped for no front headlight. Now, i dont know for sure if they just stopped them and informed them or if they actually got a ticket. TO the riders with no headlights.....GET A HEADLIGHT FOR SAFETY !

Yeah most of the tickets I witnessed was for ppl drinking out in the open with no discression...or ignoring the officers multiple warnings to get over to the right. There were easily 10 or more who were purposely challenging authority just to get a cool "harrassment" story and a lil bit of attention...LAMESKEEZ

Negative...I did get an updated talley though of 51 tickets. If you recall I originally stated that the preliminary numbers are about 35.
I made a formal request for the breakdown. Multiple units from different divisions were present and each turned in their tickets to their "home" divisions. We now have to make phone calls and request the actual violations. So it will take about a week.

Revenue, Revenue,Revenue, such an easy way to get Revenue.
This should offset the cost of enforcement. An added plus is the easy shift
the officers enjoy while monitoring the ride. Harasing cyclist sure beats a domestic
violence or armed robbery call.

@Active420..........just a guess. From what i saw (people stopped and being written) and the amount of people on the ride......did a little fuzzy match. From Krumers preliminary of 35.....now at 50......I'd guess at least 80. Thats about 2% of people that were riding.
They probably should have stopped riders and given them a 3x5 postcard with VC 21201 to VC 27400 (pertaining to bicycles), and just F.I.'d them

Sorry for nit being sorry!! But last months LACM was the last for me these freaken cops cause more problems than help!!! I'm not for following these A-holes anymore they control the pace (if you can call it a pace i could have walked it faster) and then when kids that ride Fixed bikes with no breaks, pass them up and fail to stop at a red light they get a ticket. While they are suppose to be helping control the traffic they give these kids tickets come on how stupid they think people are? Why have all those cops and then not control the street lights at intersections??? They were stopping on purpose to slow and divide groups and thats BS. Sorry but me and 15 of my group will stick to our own not that i'm for breaking the law but when your suppose to be a part of our group your suppose to help not cause more issues!!!
What happened to Ride with no name ????
I will be starting a New ride in out of South Gate Park on Fridays let me know if your intrested!!

IMHO, his ride seems to encounter less static due to his own unique set of tactics.

I encorage anybody who has the desire, time, and initivite to start another critical mass, in a different part of the city.
There is a core of people who will ride out from wilshire and western till their dying day, and that's great, but I personally thing it would be awesome if nobody in LA had to ride more than 3 or4 miles to make it to the closest LACM on the last Friday of the month.

Hollywood CM! Hollywood and Vine, Hollywood and Highland for start location.
We need that shit bad, there some real serious asshole drivers on Hollywood Bl.
Silver Lake / Echo Park needs a Critical Mass. Bike District needs to get more militant, just one shitty dangerous bike lane on Sunset is not cutting it!
Culver City needs a Critical Mass. Dangerous part of town if you're driving walking riding, dangerous period.
Beverly Hills needs a Critical Mass.

I think critical mass starts with 5 or 10 people and can go up from there.
I dont think it matters if CM is 10-20-50-or500 ppl
Just as long as the group has enough of a presence to take the lane.
I wasn't around for the first LACM but I'd bet that like MR it started with 10-15 people.
With all the contention going on with critical mass right now, the the progressively annoying situation with the cops I just think by having more masses on the last friday.
LA is 10x the size of SF! literally 10x as many square miles.
And we are 10x a rad ... so I think we should have at least 10 critical masses on the last friday.

haha i didnt finish that thought .... * I just think by having more masses on the last friday it will offer more diversity of rides to choose from, reduce conflicts, and pretty much make it impossible for the police to accompany every critical mass.

There are 2 possible ways as I see it.
1) Make a concerted effort to start new CMs on last friday and really commit.
Once one gets popular enough add another, and another, and another.
2) Take advantage of a big moment (say LACM NYE) and advertise the shit out of new (additional) starting points, times, and convergences, much like we do the All City Toy Ride.
That would set a precedent, and while all the rides might not last the test of time some would and they would get the ball rolling. People like tradition.
People are always down for some change in the new year ... it keeps things fresh.

When I read this I just dismissed it as an inane comment to be ignored. However, the fact is he is right.
The Wilshire Western CM has become nothing more than just another party ride, sponsored by the police. I am completely at a loss how anyone could find this appealing, but many do, and the ride is now what it is. I have left it alone as fixie4life suggested and now far prefer to ride elsewhere, rather than be corralled in by the "authorities", controlled and threatened by citations at every intersection.
I've always considered CM as a protest ride and nothing more. 29 days a month cars treat bicyclists as if they are rightful owners of the road. One night a month, through shear numbers, bicyclists exert their rights by taking over the roads. Others consider CM something very different. For them, WilshireWestern serves their purpose.
Start another CM and I'm there. Start CM2 from WilshireWestern and just head in the opposite direction and I'm there.
Until then, I am a Critical Mass of One.
