I need your help and input. Want to ride my bicycle once again, but it needs a tune up. I found two persons offering tuneups. Check them out in the following link's below:

I want to know if they are legit and if anyone has received a tune up from them. Also please let me know if anyone knows another person that has given your bike a great tune up service.

i want some one with experience to work with my bike not some chump ass cat that doesn't know squat shit. dont know if they have those in the bike co-ops. i dont know squat shit about a bike tune up nor have the equipment and time to learn that is why i want to pay some that has experience in bike tune ups

bike kitchen, bike oven, bike-rowave, buy a bike repair book and some tool and work it out.... all more less expensive that a local bike shop ... working on your bike yourself connects you more to your bike ... at least i think so ...

im a certified united bicycle institute mechanic. i can service your bike for you. $100. my cost is up there because i went to school to become a bike mechanic, i didnt just learn from fucking around in a garage over the summer.

Hah... the photos on their site are funny... in fact it looks just like a bunch of people fucking around in a garage... and really I don't see the difference between 13 days at bike mechanic camp, and spending some time learning learning from shop, online and tooling in your garage...
But one obviously qualifies you to rip kids off for $100 tune ups and feel good about it.
The attached photo made me feel like I need to sign up, cause he looks like knows something about that part that must be critical and only found at BIKESCHOOL.com

doing things in your garage - might fix the problem, but might not be the correct way to fix it.
ubi teaches you how to do things by industry standards.

How many years have you been in the trenches fixing bikes day in and day out ?
Do you have the touch ?
is your forarm a torqe wrench ?
Can someone trust that a bike you've just assembled is race worthy ?
or will shit come lose ?

i never saw ANYONE touch a torque wrench when i was working at a shop. that was one of the first things i changed about my wrenching since ive been back from the school.

this one time i was riding my 18gear to house of spirits from a dtla metro stop by way of solano canyon. the derailleur hanger thingy on my bike was the stock one made of some dinky cast aluminum. Something got caught in the bottom of my chain and as my chain on an uphill and as I unwittingly cranked the jingus up to the top of my front gear shifty thing the torque of the resultant pull bent it all out of shape and the chain came off etc. Since that part was all soft and moldable we werea able to handle it back into shape and ride the rest of the night and back home the next day.
The retail shop I got that bike from was able to order another one of the same weak part and swap it out. Yay bike shop. Later on I went my my metal fabricator buddy's house and told him my sad tale he was able to fabricate an (to our eyes at least) an exact copy out of stainless which hasn't broke yet.
Anyway, this story amounts to its good to know a welder, and just wanted to mention California residents can learn how to fabricate bike parts at community colleges. I'm not a bike mechanic or anything I just look up the problem and fix in books etc. Not to go off topic, but I thought it worth mentioning since ppl might be interested in fixing bikes might also be interested in learning welding too, to fix their frames and fabricate their own little parts and stuff. An example of a good available resource is Cerritos College:
