It would have been nice to see him get more time, but hopefully he serves at least 3 years, gets a couple of beatdowns to help him feel some remorse, and gets sued for all he has left in civil court.
for all you sqaures that have never been in the system!!! that dude got 5 year term. it is his first arrest from what i understand and that means 50% he will do 2 1/2 year and be on parole for three years. he definitely got a srtike or 2! but not sure do to the fact i dont know all the ifo surrounding his sentenceing require means!! but that is what i know to be true do to the fact i have been in the system and having family in the system!!!!
No only will this guy get fucked with in prison, which im sure he will be, the two injured cyclists should get really good lawyers and sue this guy in civil court for damages. He will probably serve about 3 years on this. 3 years behind bars is s small price to pay for the damage he did to those guys. He is lucky that the guy who hit his car is still alive. Get a Beverly Hills lawyer and sue that fucker for millions.
Am I the only one who saw those two little words, "no probation"? That info came directly from DJWheels, and he's the one I'd trust to give us accurate information on how long it'll be 'til this asshole's allowed on the streets again.
And hooray for getting justice served in at least one of the cases out there!
Dr. Death's Lie-yer, says His client shouldn't go to prison "because he has a 'heart problem'". No shit, he has a heart problem!
He Demonstrated a "heart problem" when he started harrassing cyclists years ago!
He Proved it when Slammed on the car brakes in front of the riders!
He Admitted it to the LAPD when talking to the officer after the assault, explaining he was teaching the cyclists "a lesson"!
Yea his real jail time will be short, and in a cushy upgraded prison i'm sure. If you have the $$$ your not going to county.
... This incident made me think, could this whole thing have been avoided, and about my own actions when someone cuts me off, or almost doors me. WE NEED TO KEEP OUR EMOTIONS IN CHECK. Make them look the a-hole. Not to mention the car is basically a loaded gun pointed at us. Let's not piss off the gunman. Fine you want to shout out hey or watch it, fine but leave it at that! Spewing a litany of profane words and hand gestures is not going to make the driver feel bad about their actions, it will do just the opposite, and make us look like the a-hole.
Who knows, these riders may have only been one F-YOU away from getting run over head on and killed, instead of slammed brakes. Say some shit (especially in this town) to the wrong person and they may really have a gun.
He is not going to county, he is going to Prison. And even if he serves as little as two years, this guy will REALLY suffer in prison. Looking at his picture, this guy will get punked in prison daily. Cushy or not, prison is prison.

On metafilter I'm reading some other creative sentencing ideas:
-One year in prison. The other four, he is not allowed to drive, but has to bike on the roads 10 hours per week, verifiable by GPS ankle bracelet (or else go back to jail.)
-Sentence him to five years of providing free low-risk "open up and say 'ahh'" medical care for the homeless. Or at least his fellow prisoners.
He got a five year sentence and he has only one prior misdemeanor, which was over 30 years old and did not have any effect on the sentence.
He'll have to do AT LEAST two and half years in a state penitentiary, at which point he'll be paroled for the remaining time.
However, he will not be able to drive again. The judge also ordered his CA driver's license revoked.
Two and a half years in a state prison will be an eternity for this guy, no doubt. He did 2 months in county jail and you could tell he looked a lot thinner and kinda weak.
it's not a lot of time for the crime but the fact that he might have to ride a BIKE since his license is revoked is sooo funny. I hope he rides, but he'll probably just walk.
Time will fly for this guy once he gets into the rythim of thangy thangs. He'll be aight! Till he gets out and realizes the civil suit
will grab a lot of his cheese.... Doh!
He filed a notice of appeal shortly after the sentencing earlier this year, and his appellate brief was filed about four weeks ago. The Attorney General's response is due in December, and Thompson will have a reply brief due about a month after that.
Oral arguments would be heard a couple of months after all the briefs are turned in.
You can track the status of the appeal using the appellate case number B221794 on the court's site: HERE
