I fucking love DeVotchka!
I fell in love with their song 'The Winner Is' then they put vocals in it naming it 'How It Ends' and it became 10 times better, and became popular too... awesome band.
So yesterday I was listening to this field recording I made with a handheld tape recorder like 10 years ago:
which sent me looking for the world's oldest surviving sound recordings:
"The conductor was Sir August Manns, conducting an orchestra of some 500 musicians and a choir of over 4,000 voices, in front of an audience of 23,722 people."
THIS WAS SOOOO FUCKING GOOD!!!
I was reading threads while this kept playing in the background (had another window open) and man.... it was just great.... the entire piece seemed to evolve from something very simplistic to this wonderful rich textured modern piece. So fucking good.

Shit yeah I remember this song like it came out yesterday.
I was in 8th grade and rocked out to this whenever I had the tv on at 1AM!!
I also remember the playlist on MTV being more varied and consisting of many, unheard of artists that didn't have to be "the thing".
Nowadays, if no one's heard of it within the last, 2 days, it sucks.
Oh hey, so there are several albums I happen to like quite a bit available for download here. If you ever encounter a password when downloading or opening the files, the password is function
Includes Fela Kuti, Alice Coltrane, Cinematic Orchestra, Contemporary Noise Quintet, The Knife, Teddybears, Jim O'Rourke, Steve Reich, Uusitalo, Soul Bossa Trio, Susumu Yokota, High Rise, Woody Guthrie.
It's either an homage or a send-up to terrible 90s ragga jungle. I'm not sure. In any case, it's what I woke up to this morning. If this is any indication of what the rest of my day is going to be like, then color me psyched.
This thread seems great; however, I have an old computer, less than 1400ghz and maybe like 512MB ++ of ram, and all the YouTube embeds make the page realllly slow..... am I the only one?
Excessive Youtube embeds ultimately kill all the MR music threads. I kind of hate using Youtube for listening to music anyway. You think I want to be anchored to this web page while I'm listening to a song? Come on.
It seems like the original intent of this thread was for people to link to music that people can download, but it looks like that hasn't worked out so well...
(incidentally, I am listening to Uusitalo's Vapaa Muurari Live right now. Weirdly angular and organic dubby techno. Still the best thing Vladislav Delay's ever done, I think.)
So on my other computer, I can visit this page, and respond :) On my other though, I just restarted because it made the whole thing slow down after all the Flash loaded.
Downloading Vapaa Muurari Live now.
Gonna start a new music thread... for these kinds of links.
