Anyone planning on riding to this this weekend?

I plan on riding in the opposite direction as fast as I can! Kidding mostly, but for years we lived with in a few blocks of the thing when it was free, so now that it's $15 to get in I can definetly live without it. It also usually ends up being the hottest weekend of the year, so I prefer the cool breezes of riding my bike to the sea of sweaty masses.

Yah, wasn't trying to come off "hipper than thou" or anything, maybe I'm an old dude who's been around Silver Lake/Echo Park for a long time and has seen the changes. To each their own, live & let live I say, I won't judge you if you want to enjoy the SJ Fair. We're all bike riders here, right?

yeah i remember when the fair was free w/ "optional donation" too. but whatevs, i figure $12 to see a bunch of bands i really dig is still a pretty good deal. (autolux, sea wolf, blonde redhead on saturday night).

Can't deal with it anymore. Grew up here, and watched a regular community gathering become some schizophenic indyfest. Loved seeing Sonic Youth, but hated being crushed by a million drunk hipsters. Wonder how many 'mos, familias, and homeys will be hanging at this year's junction....
Then again, I hate most people, so what do I know?

scene kids ..scene kids..I hear you rollers.It sucks seeing the hood change but cant hold on forever.
I wouldnt mind hitting it with a bunch of bikes..for the beer and food.

I'll be there...
I've got a friend who owns a shop on Sunset as well as another friend who will be dj'ing for a couple of hours at said shop. So, it'll be fun just chilling in front of the store getting drunk.
But, the fee is getting to be a little much.

ahhh . . . not to get too philosophical on ya'll but it's true: change=part of life, sometimes it's even good. It's too easy to be blinded by the rosy glow of nostalgia, imagining a younger, simpler time, but that's hindsight. When we lived in Silverlake ('76-'92) we endured 5 burglaries, a car theft, numerous car break-ins and other assorted shit. When I visit that 'hood now, it amazes me how "nice" it's become, but the potential was always there.
I gotta say, my life is mostly pretty sweet these days: a nice place to live, my health and a bunch of great rides to go on with great people.

My girlfriend has a store (ReForm School) at the Sunset Junction and we can get tickets at 1/2 off if anyone's interested. they're $20 at the door or $10 thru me. if anyone wants a ticket(s), you can paypal $10 for each ticket to me at barleye@hotmail.com and i'll get them i think tomorrow or friday. i can meet you at the gate at sunset and sanborn to give you your ticket(s) the day of, or you can pick them up at the store on Friday until 7pm.
I'm not sure, but to be safe, specify which day you want a ticket for and your screenname, name and phone number since i'm assuming it's a seperate ticket for each day.

FYI, there is bike valet parking (provided by LACBC); yours truly will be staffing Saturday night 9:30pm -12midnight.

i'll call you when i get to the store today. i think we can get tickets still. they've been kinda lame about it....they tried to say to our neighbor that the 1/2 off tickets are only for employees. makes no sense whatsoever.

sunset junction is still packed at 10:55 pm. Mr. Rollers is doing bike valet about 50 feet from ReForm School right now..... Cold War Kids were good on the main stage. weather is great here....buy your tickets from bernie for tomorrow.

this year's festival was horrible. shitty bands except for the sonics. turnout was way low. nice going dipshit organizers.

It's no longer a true neighborhood festival, really. The original purpose was to bring together the diverse communities of Silver Lake (gay and latino, primarily), and to encourage people of all classes to mingle. Now, Silver Lake is fairly white-bread !@#$?genized, and the entrance fee is too high for low-income families.
At this point, it's pretty much an outdoor concert for the kids with money.
