right on, daylo. my lazy ass has been wanted to get a (night) ride started around pasadena. unless my dad decides he cares about father's day this year and wants to do something, i'll be there.
Hey guys.. a buddy of mine and I may check this ride out for the first time tonight and I have a minor concern. Saw the vid & noticed the comment on this ride being "one of the fastest" and that Anthony also mentioned "climbs" and whatnot. My friend and I are not completely out of shape but I know neither of us are probably used to this kind of "pace".. Guess I'm just wondering if we're going to be in over our heads or not. My buddy rides his bike to work so he's definitely a ways ahead of me in the conditioning dept. I on the other hand have just started getting back into riding bikes and so far the only rides I've done are LACM earlier this month and then one ride with my buddies from Pasadena High School to the Rose Bowl & back. The distance and the time factor are not really a problem.. just worried about holding up the pack in terms of pace. Thanks in advance & have fun and ride safe tonight guys. 626!
as a card-carrying wolfpackhustler i must say, the 626 is a legit fast ride. however, the pace varies throughout the night, and the organizers do their best to make sure nobody gets dropped. that combined with a published-before-hand route makes a pretty friendly atmosphere for the inexperienced. two weeks ago a couple guys on mountain bikes did it. they definitely weren't staying with the pack, but they made it to each rest stop before we started the next leg.
that said, i think tonight is the special end of the month surprise route, and i think the no rida left behind policy goes out the window for that one.
but hey, there's only one way to find out for sure. worst thing that can happen is you end up riding home by yourself. whatever. just obey the three T's. tokens, a tube, and tools.
oh, and the fastest ride in pasadena? um, rose bowl peleton anybody?
Sorry if we dropped you last night, we usually try not to, but the pace up that initial climb was pretty quick. Props to whoever showed up in the California jersey for keeping up with me and Rob in the front breakaway on that final stretch.
Definitely not encouraging to hear that people get left behind. I understand some riders are just more conditioned so naturally they'll lead the pack and ride at a pace thats comfortable for them but.. What's the point of having organized rides if people are in it for themselves. Might as well plan to ride alone instead of show up to a 'group' ride only to get left behind. Sorry.. but I am new to cycling and would like to get more into it and the discovery of a local ride was definitely good motivation to get out there but if this ride is nothing more than 5-7 'hardcore' guys going all out and only leaving room for those whom are as capable as them then I would definitely like to know so I don't bother showing up.

Did you fail to see where I said sorry we don't usually do this? I guess not. This isn't a slow ride, but how the hell do you expect to get better if you don't actually try something that challenges you? The guy who got dropped only did so because he gave up, we wait at stops for everyone who is behind, and usually if someone is going slower at least one or two people keep pace with them or ride sweep behind. We have plenty of first timers show up and stay with us start to end, hell even people on mountain bikes and hybrids have done it.
Recent head counts are around 15-20+ people so this isn't just 5-7 'hardcore' people,; but hey if you want to keep that attitude of yours and not actually ride, go ahead it, won't bother any of us. However if you decide to actually use that bike of yours, show up with a smile and I'm sure you will be welcomed.
the first twenty minutes of any aerobic workout are hell but dont give up completely on a ride if your lungs start to hurt, and especially dont bring that hate onto the message boards give the ride another go at it, use it as motivation to get better and in shape and we do wait up for people and regroup so dont get all negative man ! use this experience to motivate you to become better i do everytime Gillingham starts a chase group
as long as you come out with a little homework done, (studying the posted route) you pretty much keep up with the ride. you'll learn where the hills are, and know where the descents are. the whole group (20+ people) all wait at a 'descent' rest point.
a lot of rides posted on here are party rirdes. most of them actually say it. this ride isn't a party ride; unless you like to smoke, drink, and ride at near top speed all at the same time.
a suggestion to those who want to do this ride. come out and try it. you won't get left behind if your goal is to keep a positive attitude while finishing the ride.
i smoke in this ride and i do fine. going back to raccoon conditioning is taking some work. the 5fix2 ride seemed fast after being off the bike for two weeks. i need more leg work. i'll see you folks next month. hopefully.
I have been with this ride since the beginning and still am in the back. We do the same route for the entire month, so each sunday you should challenge yourself to push on a little farther. If you don't make it to the end big deal, I have cut out earlier myself, no shame in that. Everybody has different experience in riding. The guys and girl on this ride are standup folks, and if you speak up and need help, would be more than willing to do so. Just don't get discouraged. And to all my RACCOONS, see you soon! Ride Safe.
but yea guys, my bad.. around orange grove my light dropped or something -_- and plus i started hurtin, i went back to look for it and decided to try again the next time. However the ride was going good till that point so i'd encourage others to join in
There's at least one girl that comes out every once in awhile. Last week we gave a spoke card to a girl driving by that said she might show up to the next one too.
All I gotta say is, I love this ride. I always show up after eating a full meal and tell myself that I'll be sitting in the back, chilling, but I always end up mashing it to the end. Fun ride, looking forward to next week.
Whoa.. Well it looks like my concern struck a few negative chords. Sorry for the unintended 'hostility' or whatever negative vibe that was picked up in my comment earlier. All-in-all I just wanted to know if the ride was one where 'the more the merrier' was a motto or if it was more of a interest group ride for the more 'hard core' guys to find others who ride at their pace or faster. I have nothing against this ride or anyone on this forum and I make it a constant goal in life to be positive so again I apologize for any unintended criticism of this ride and/or riders. Definitely hope to make it out some time soon. Thanks for affirming that this is definitely something I would like to be a part of.
just to clear this up raccoons is a fast ride..... if its gonna be your first ride or you just got your girf a sweet conversion then you might want to check out tueday eagle rock or any number of rides over here ------------------------>
Horse Sense rollin' with you on Sunday night. Look forward to meeting your crew. I wish we could ride with some of those bad ass soul jams setting the cadence.....p.s. me and fellow WPHustler Chinchilla are going up the 2/Angeles Crest tomorrow (Saturday). Meeting at BudgetPro Bikes (Target @ Colorado and the 2) at 10 am if anyone else wants blown out quads for Sunday night!!!
Yeah Yeah Raccoons!!
I will not be able to ride with you 'coons tonight. Choppercabras did me in. Sure it was a short ride, but it was hot, and drank a lot of PBR!!!! It was awesome!
and i ask the same question again guys... that prototype is important to me and to the community. it has evolved since then. i have a better prototype...
but...
WHERE ARE THE PICS OF THE FREAKIN BALLOON BICYCLE I MADE AT THE OLD TIME PUB????
Ugh. I just went out to feed my dog and put stuff up in garage- it's too cold. Sorry, but I'm going to be a pussy and say it's too cold tonight. Just not up to it. Maybe next time.
Nobody really talks about this ride on here. If you're thinkin about going, do it! I'm not thinking about it though. I'm thinking about some warm soup.
Not sure if anyone is going to check this in time but I figured I'd give it a shot.. Just wondering if any of the Raccoons attend the "Pasadena Crititcal Mass" events on Saturdays.
More specifically if any of you guys are going to go to the one this Saturday.. just trying to gauge what kind of crowd shows up. Not that it matters but.. I haven't been to this ride nor do I know anyone that has so I was hoping to find out some more info on the 'demo' of the ride.
I was at the pcm last month. It is a very slow ride because of little kids but Eric always haul a trailer with tons of kool music. I will be there this Saturday with my little girl. Last month about 10 -15 people showed up. The route is tentative so it is open for suggestions. I would say about 10 miles. I hope this info helps.
Yeah! Now it's posted, I was worried for a minute that there was no Raccoon Ride this sunday. Maybe it won't be as cold, and I think I may come up with a crappy old road bike by then. But it has gears and tall skinny tires!
I did a few miles last night that included a hot lap around the Rose Bowl. And that was still on my Manta Ray.
Can't wait!
raccoooooooons i love this ride been sick the past two weeks with piles of homeowrk cant wait to streatch my paws this week though
this is a legit ride !
yeah- legit. I was almost surprised first time with them and no one was drinking or smoking weed! Who are you people?! Then we hauled ass across pasadena and I felt high enough from that! Yeah! Raccooooooons!!!!!!!!!! ! ! ! !
i missed out on all my weekly rides last week due to the wolfpack century butt-raping me and taking me out of riding for the rest of the week. now i got an itch to throw a new ride in my schedule this week. looking forward to rollin' with the raccoonsssssss aarrrooooo~!
i just double checked where u guys meet up and thats gonna be a long ride x___x im coming from LB... hopefully i can make it in time if no bad traffic appears.
Hey so San Gabriel Valley is smoky! Are you Raccoooooons still riding? I would like to hear from that daylo cat or umm, is it Logan? Yeah that's it, one you say if you plan to.
I dunno if I want to now. Drove across to sfv earlier and just sitting in my car I felt a little funky from the smokiness. Lots of heavy breathing pumping up some hills... ugh.
I do have a box of those paper dust masks I could share though...
Got questions...this will be my 1st time riding w/ y'all (do ride with LACM) and I'm pretty damn sure I won't make it all the way at the pace the youtube shows, but I'm gonna try to get as far as possible...anyway, where's the map? I gotta cut out early anyway, cuz I just can't be out riding around till 11:30pm when I get up for work at 5am. Also, more girls yet? Reading older posts and youtube video - don't see any. And I'm askn cuz I hope I won't be the only. Thanks!
Thanks cancerchck. Do you know the route? Or at least which cities we ride through chronologically? Start in Pasadena then...? I live in Arcadia. I'm wondering if we ride east towards Sierra Madre (at which point I will cut out) then loop back.
we never drop anyone intentionally and we always have regroup stops we average anywhere from 15-20 mph and sometimes we have people holding up the rear..... sometimes i always encourage people to check it out its a challenge but i find it highly motivating to ride with the raccoons i hope cancer chick does show up ! we have not ridden together for a while ! and i want to see your new bike ! come out you will have fun and dress a little warm because its been chilly lately
Damn! 15-20 mph!!! It's on...I still wanna check it out. Maybe this Eaglerock ride on Tues I read about may be a better fit...for now. I'll get up there with you raccoons! See you Sunday. Thanks for the replies.
the eagle rock ride doesnt post up on MR anymore atleast it hasnt for a while to get info on the ride you need to visit lafixed.com but those rides tend to be faster then cm's and the rides ------>
posted here obviously there are exceptions exe, bicykillers wolfpack etc
click on the 626 rida aka sunday night raccoon------------->
there is a november route link that directs you to the gmap and how much elevation there will be...it's a lot of fun you should definitely come out and see what the hype is all about <(^_^)>
from what i remember, they do about two stops. where everyone can chill. they stop to regroup then go as soon as everyone is together. you can pretty much get the incline information if you take a look at the routes. routes are updated @ lafixed.com.
i hardly come on this ride anymore but still do update the threads and post the rides on here. the dudes that you need to get in contact with are MARC and LOGAN.
usually 2 stops not too long to regroup. hills this months's route is relativley flat next month we will be training for the pasadena marathon bike race so we will be following the posted route for the race just so we get familier with the route so come race day when a few of us raccoons are gonna jump it we know what to expect !
This was a fun and fast ride. Ill try and make it out to this side of town more often. modernfuturist, I was the one that gave u the inner tube. Just make sure to pass that karma on next time you hear someone doesnt have an innertube. Good times indeed...
Sorry about that Braydon but I am glad to hear you made it home safely. For a second we though we lost you inside the Santa Fe Dam that would have been hella scary...
Now that was one intense ride. I've never had my legs cramp up like that before!! I'm glad I made it to the end and got smoke that victory bowl.... good times
sunday night sure was intense! but it was good very good...victory bowl...damn i shoulda ridden back with you guys, my buddy and i were the ones who split off in azusa...
There is also a cool downhill route that debut showed us on the way back a few weeks ago on our way back downtown, I think I remember it, but would be good to check with him. It's at 13mi to 15mi markers on this route: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3157158

The route looks groovy, but more or less what we do on any normal Sunday. This is a holiday weekend! i.e. no work on Monday for us mindless drones. Why don’t you come up with something super duper extra special. Of course this holiday adventure should also include eating somewhere really good after our raging tear around the city. Come on ride leader, lead us to the promised land.

Well, well, well look who's finally chiming in via the internet. I'll have to confer with my second lieutenant and we will do our best to come up with something super extra special for all those suit and tie working drones who attend SNR. Does peanut butter on cinnamon bread qualify as "really good"?
Thanks to everyone who came out last night it was a blast, good times all around. We had ramen, boose and women what more could a raccoon ask for..... well maybe a donut or two.
Good ride last night, hell awesome ride last night. I'm thoroughly impressed with my route making abilities.....wait for applause.....clapclapclap....thank you, thank you, you're to kind...
how about the whittier route from approx 1 mo ago. i missed that nite but heard it was good. if someone can repost the route, that'd be great. overall, let's ride
Hi everyone. First time rider. Never been on any rides before in a group. I live in the SGV so I look forward to riding with you guys. anyways where can i park my car to ride. I know this spots across from PCC but I'm not familiar with the parking areas. someone please txt me cuz i may not be able to check this later. thanks
So I have a mountain bike, and that's all I got, I've never been on a ride before but I've been biking 3-10 miles everyday for about a year, you guys think I can keep up?
Well, unfortunately I have work tonight and thusly I can't be there to lead tonight and neither can Irving cause he's biking up to San Fransisco.
So if someone wants to handle the reigns of power for the night that would be fine by me.
Possible route
Okay so I know the holiday's are a precarious time, filled with family, food and fun, but now that it's over... TIME TO GET BACK ON YOUR BIKES!
srsly, it's been a ghost town lately. Topher and I have a fun little romp (sounds sexy huh?) through Burbank, and there may be a stop for tacos at La Estrella!
And here I thought the Racoons all had become road kill or passed on!!
Well It's already to late to meet you guys. Hopefully next time you guys can post the route? So Perhaps I know where to maybe meetup with you guys if I'm late?
Awesome turnout this week. Around 12-15 people showed up for the ride, and we had a really good pace throughout the ride. Good job to everyone for sticking to the route and catching up at the end...!!!
To anyone that got dropped, don't get discouraged. Study the route beforehand, pay attention to the directions and route slips, keep on truckin along, and you will be rewarded for your efforts.
For future reference, we will continue to be keeping the routes around 25-35 miles weekly and try to be back at the meet spot by 11:30pm.
Next week we got something special planned, so stay tuned and look for about 25 miles.
I came up with this Turnbull for tonight.
It's a pretty simple route with a little bit of climbing should be fun.
I recommend having brakes and lights for this one.
Doooouuunuuuuuuuuts!! I might go though I think I'm going to be a bit slower... Been beating myself up with rides all week everyday. LOL just got home did around 30+ miles
modern futurist:
Week 7 (August 22nd, 2010) - Long-dong Lucky Boy Route We will be venturing through some dark roads, and taking all of Longden, eventually ending up at Lucky Boy.
Lucky Boy's breakfast burrito is not to be trifled with, and it has defeated many a foe...
Are you ready to conquer it or die in a puddle of greasy caloric gut busting glory???
Continuing with our pork based food rides, we will be visiting The Oinkster for some pastrami and brews.
Also as stated earlier, this will be the last Sunday Night Raccoons for the next two weeks.
We will resume our regularly planned affairs on September 19th.
Final piece of important information. This week's route will be meet at 7:30pm, roll out at 8:00pm SHARP.
If you are going to be late, feel free to give me a call (626-threesevenfive-onezeroonefour) or meet us at The Oinkster at around 9:15pm.
Alright raccoons, time to earn your legs again!
We will head to Griffith park and climb it!
Afterwards we will be hightailing it back to Pasadena for Bella's Gourmet Pizza!
So as for the secret... The raccoon is out of the bag, so to speak.
We debuted the Fall 2010/Winter 2011 Raccoons Club Card last night.
Here is the deal:
- Finish a route and earn a sticker
- Prizes can be redeemed at 3, 6 and 9 stickers
- Stickers are non-transferrable!
- If you cheat, you will be PERMABANNED from this ride (SERIOUS!!!)
- Eligibility period is from October 3rd, 2010 to January 30th, 2011
- Although this is not a race, there is a slight incentive to collect all 9 stickers as fast as you can.
This isn't just about attendance, but this is about having the willpower and determination to make it back to the ride start! 16 riders showed up at the start last night, only 8 ended up earning stickers.
So if you missed out last night, don't worry there are 17 weeks left.
Week 14 (October 10th, 2010) - California Love Week 2 of 18 for Spoke Card/Prize Eligbility
This week we celebrate all things awesome about California!
Palm trees! Warm weather! Great hamburgers!
Plus we're also taking California Blvd for a long stretch.
(Note we also take New York Dr., but whatever man!)
It's a pretty gradual hill and not unlike anything we do usually, and I encourage you to try it, as you can catch us at Rose Bowl for our first regroup.
Also we'd love to have to join us either way, but if you do join us on Rosemont you don't get a spokecard or a sticker!
Week 15 (October 17th, 2010) - All Along the Water Tower Week 3 of 18 for Spoke Card/Prize Eligbility
Raccoons are inquisitive and mischevious by nature, so this week be prepared for some hill climbin' and some explorin'.
We will be leaving the safe confines of the San Gabriel Valley and head towards a different valley... the San Fernando Valley.
It's been awfully quiet in here recently... but this week we have an awesome route planned.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INMQBT-k77U
Week 18 (November 7th, 2010) - Turn[BULLS] on Parade Week 6 out of 18 for Spoke Card/Prize Eligibility
So after a few weeks of less than stellar riding mileage,
we will up the ante and head towards Turnbull Canyon.
With that said, queue the angsty mid 90's soundtrack.
Post ride eat's at Rick's Drive In, cuz I said so!
Week 19 (November 14th, 2010) - All Hail The Gold Line Week 7 out of 18 for Spoke Card/Prize Eligibility
The Gold Line is an underutilized gem of the region,
and this week we will visit the Gold Line in its entirety
following the 19.7 miles, and 22 stations along the route.
Afterwards we will be scoping out Asian honeys grubbin' at one of the HK style cafe's in the SGV!
Thanks to all the new guys who showed up, good to have some fresh blood to reinvigorate this ride. Not only that, it was awesome to see people working hard to make it through to the end.
Good ol Union Station
If you didn't make it through to the end, show up next week for some about ~25 miles of total riding and some delicious RAMEN!
Week 20 (November 21st, 2010) - 3 Dorrah Ramen ^_^
Week 8 out of 18 for Spoke Card/Prize Eligibility
While some people are completely content eating Top Ramen,
there is no excuse to try some of the best ramen in the SGV
whilst riding with one of the best rides in the SGV.
On top of that, it will only set you back for 3 dollars!
Short route this week, 21 miles to ramen, and another 6 miles
back to the start with a belly full of ramen, beer and good times.
Hourly weather forecast says we are in the clear, and the route tonight is short and simple with a few turns, so it's the perfect opportunity to introduce yourselves to the Raccoons!
Week 22 (December 28th, 2010) - Tour de Dumplings Week 10 out of 18 for Spoke Card/Prize Eligibility
All 3 prizes have been announced, and now it's only a matter of earning them.
There are 9 weeks left, so even if you are a newbie, you can earn the ultimate prize.
This week we will be doing a good ol' Rosebowl loop,
and finish it off with your choice of steamed dumplings (or dumps),
humongous beef rolls and/or piping hot noodle soups!
Week 11 out of 18 for Spoke Card/Prize Eligibility
All 3 prizes have been announced, and now it's only a matter of earning them.
There are 8 weeks left, but don't think this eliminates those who have never attended from contention you must keep in mind the coveted gold stars and their mysterious value.
This week we will be taking a stroll along Orange Grove and finishing it off at Sam Woo B.B.Q. Duck for all!
60% of rain on Sunday, but I can never trust those shady meteorologists and weather people. If it rains, we cancel and will do the route the day after X-mas, but if its a little damp or wet, we will still ride.
This week we're headed to see Christmas decorations in San Marino, Hastings Ranch, and Altadena. We will top off all the holiday cheer with a Rose Bowl loop, and then end with tacos.
Week 25 (December 26th, 2010) - Tour De Rose Parade Week 13 out of 18 for Spoke Card/Prize Eligibility
Okay so it finally looks like the weather will clear up, so if you haven't forgotten how to ride a bicycle, come out and join us.
In honor of the Rose Parade next week, we will be previewing the traditional parade route.
We will top off all the holiday cheer with a Rose Bowl loop, and then end with tacos.
The night where more midnightridazz showed up that LAfixers... Hell even Aaron Rodgers showed up to the ride, and he played in an playoff game on Saturday!
Slight snafu towards the latter half of the route and we ended up adding more mileage (about 40 miles total!) and omitting the Tea Stop.
A bunch of fun last night... check the attendance, there's only 5 rides left for prizessss!
Week 29 (January 23rd, 2011) - Topher's Taco Tryst Week 17 out of 21 for Spoke Card/Prize Eligibility
For all of you Dark Century participants, we have the perfect recovery ride!
For the rest of you degenerates, we offer the allure of tacos at the end of the route!
CASH ONLY, cuz that's how we roll.
Awesome route last night. Good turnout of 8 people, and a steady stream of first timers (just the way JTR likes em). We have some more fun planned for the upcoming months, so stay tuned and keep riding!
Week 31 (February 6th, 2011) - The Donut Redemption Week 19 out of 21 for Spoke Card/Prize Eligibility
Tagline: Two cyclists bond over a number of years, finding solace and eventual redemption
by leading their group, known as the Sunday Night Raccoons, to the promised land of donuts.
