At Berlin - Hack A Bike

So when I went to Berlin from Finowfurt, Germany at the CCC, I rode on the rent a bikes that are common in berlin. You see a bike, you call their toll free number, you dial your account number and then you dial the bike number you see you want to use. It's only about six eurocents per minute of use (.06 times 60 = 3.60 euros or approx $5 to us). I used these bikes in Berlin with my buddy after C-Base at Fredrichsain and it was awesome.
When I saw this demonstration at the
CCCamp, I was impressed with the ride and how the dare to not hack the bike was hackable, but to a certain extent. The architect of the security features was nicely organized but the guy just didn't pay much attention for backdoor entries. It's like blocking stack guards on cisco routers, except not in this case. In this case, the hack was only used to ride the bike outside of the perimeters of Berlin.
I stumbled on to this article today and it brought back
memories.
