Headphones while cycling

Consider this,
you're riding in a group of 30 people and your wearing headphones jamming to your music.
Then all of a sudden you stop and then decide to start moving to your right as if you're the only rider on the road.
Riders behind you are yelling stop moving, hold your line but you can't hear them because you're jamming to the music that's in your headphones that are stuck in your ears preventing you from hearing whats going on around you.
To those riders/ridazz I say, what the fuck. You wanna endanger your life do that shit on your own. But if you're riding in a group. Open your fucking ears before you kill someone.

There were already a few threads created in relation to this, but end up getting buried beneath the tons of other garbage that piles up in this furnace.

just want to say i totally get what you are trying to say. i have noticed this a lot with the younger kids. i almost got taken out by a kid who was wearing headphones and made a turn w/o looking over his shoulder on a few occasions. but keep in mind there are ways to listen w/o endangering others, like listening at a low volume. while on mid-large rides i sometimes listen to music but i rather talk to other riders.

I totally ran over a headphoned rider on my tandem during a crank mob. The guy was okay but he totally knew he was at fault.
Everyday I see riders with headphones riding the wrong way on the side of the road... True geniuses.

WTF is right. You could also be increasing your chances of getting a talking to by our friends in blue uniforms.

A person operating a motor vehicle or bicycle may not wear a headset covering, or earplugs in, both ears."
[*You can pretty much ignore the rest of the statute which contains exceptions that don't apply to listing to music via headphones.]

I will never understand why people ride/skate/run with headphones on. It's so important to be able to hear what's going on around you. The sound of my bike and the wind is music to my ears.

The only rida that should get a pass is the chick from the midnight ride movie. She was like a personal sharing sound system.....Ginormous Headphones FTW

and on organized rides that have routes already laid out...it's always the person with the headphones on who's at the front of the pack, and misses the turn. Then your yelling at them and they can't hear youuuuuuuu. Helllloooooooooo!!!

Cigarettes are another problem. Nothing kills the joy faster than having red hot embers fly into your face...it happens far too often on rides too. Very poor group ride etiquette.

I don't really wear phones on a group ride,
I like chatting too much.
I have been on rides with people who were wearing headphones and never had a problem communicating with them. I rode a whole century with meandmybluebike while he was rockingthe ipod, it was never an issue.
Most earbuds let on a fair amount of ambiant noise, and what you can hear also depends on how loud youare turned up.
I don't judge a rida by if they are wearing headphones, but how attentive they seem to be in general. Some people are dangerous, inattentive, and inconsiderate, regardless.
When I see sketchy riders, I stay out of the way.
When I make moves in a big group, I call em out loud and I use hand signals.
