DJ Icey out of the Miami-area is who I tend to listen to most of the time.
He's got this kick-ass show in Sirius/Boombox-34 called, "Automatic-Static".
Strict, high-energy, drum'n'bass with some old school tracks thrown in the mix.
One of the well-known remixes I've heard him do was, She Wants Revenge's, "Tear You Apart".
After listening to that cut, I definitely felt like tearing shit up!!
Aside from this, I've actually got quite, a few DJ Icey hits on my IPod.
Perfect for riding, and working out in the steam-factory, too.
I like the drum and bass/jungle.
But I haven't bought/stolen anything new in awhile.
I like stuff like LTJ Bukem, Ronie Size and Motion Worker
going harder is cool too, but I like the melodic stuff best.
Not quite as low are these babies in the Moller theater pipe organ in the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. That big boy way over on the right is bottom C, a paltry four octaves below middle C, 16 Hz, standing over 20 feet tall.
You can ride your bike to the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
RBI, are you implying that having the grim reaper setup you PA will result in improper connections such that only very low frequencies will be produced?
I love D&B, mostly all kinds, but not when the MC is a loud mouth and spends the whole set blabbing over the DJ's tracks...(that would be my leashed-peave for D&B)
Now we know who likes D&B.........
SO WHAT THE FUCK DO WE DO NOW!?!?!?
Eric Hair -
I love D&B, mostly all kinds, but not when the MC is a loud mouth and spends the whole set blabbing over the DJ's tracks...(that would be my leashed-peave for D&B
Me -
Reminds me of SubFM. They play good shit, but I can't stand the fucking MC yeaping (sp?) over the tracks they play. I was recording the shit till I said fuck it, it's too much of a distraction and I stopped saving it.
'HOA DAMN!!
I think we have an unofficial theme for Sins&Sprockets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DUBWiZE STYLE..........DUBWiZE!!!!!!!
I will now be making a serious effort to reconnect with my audio bike and build a playlist.......
Did you guys know that Boardners in Hollywood used to have D&B nights every Thursday!?!?!? alas, no more, they suck
BUT NOW WE CAN HAVE D&B NIGHT THIS FRIDAY>>>>>>SO LONG AS I CAN FIND THE CAps lock key.
OI! Im glad we are like minded ... I love all forms of music. I have a special place in my ears for the dub based music .. i ride to a few spots every week and was looking for some others to join me ... slvrlke 2 wherever ...short or long early to late ride ride ride
the mc aint always on but when they know the deal.......BOOM!
ride with me...R3
there use to be "Respect" every Thursday night on Melrose by Paramount studios, not sure if its still on.
I have a lot of really good sets by different djs and even some incredible sets with MC's like MC Skibadee. Im surprised you guys dont like the MC's.
I can contribute to the playlist, not sure if there is enough time.
Also, you guys should check out Beatport.com listen to freshly released and hard to find tracks. Pay average of 1.50 per track, but its worth it cause you get some really good shit that only djs can get on vinyl.
Leo, I wasn't refering to ALL MCs, just the loud obnoxious ones. There are some really good ones out there. DieselBoy has a great MC, they sound like a well reheresed band in certain sets.
Eric, ya I know there are some really bad MC's out there, but I have seen some live sets where I was blown away by the MC. It took the sick dnb shit to another level.
check this track out, its a little more "happy" than I usually likebut the beats behind it is sick.
Another cool song I recently got a hold of was a remixed version of, Foo Fighters, "Everlong" by Cates & DPL.
Most of the time, much of the regular music that becomes "electrified", tends to suck if done improperly.
However, this particular track sounded as if the original was supposed to have originally been a D'n'B track.
This Sirius satellite never fails to deliver.
If it wasn't for Boombox 34, my IPod would be about as empty as truckload of post-holes.
let me get this straight, you're going to do a D&B set with out of town? You guys hate me right? Seriously the dudes at S&S might not get off on this shit, you may want to keep a sharp eye on the crowd response. I really think it would be awesome to have a ride that gets really deep in to the D&B though!
Eric what was the name of the dj or band of that last vid? That shit was wicked! Kind of reminded me of the early skinny puppy period. Loved the whole package!
yeah, respect is the only 100% dnb place in los angeles i know of: http://respectdrumandbass.com/, it's hit or miss though, and i haven't been to the new location yet ---
but if youre from the superior extension of los angeles, the beautiful san fernando valley, there's the little rock bar (myspace.com/little_rock) which plays drum and bass on sundays -- but it's awkward to dance bc no one else does.
Leo, nice mix, who is that?
Transition 1 was kinda clunky, but followed by great exit of 1st record into nice entrace of 3rd....my crossfader skills never made it to that level.
I'm no one to criticize, if you can spin D&B/two step etc...moderately well, then you're doing alright.
Eric thats just a mix I found on youtube. calls himself tek.man. theres actually a lot of good mixing going on on youtube.
User1 - youre right, I was thinking the same thing about how the guys at S&S, so maybe it might be good to save it for the Future ride? More fitting to the ride and we have more time to get some really good tunes pooled, right??
Vanguard in Hollywood use to have dnb on Wednesday nights, not sure if they still do. Vanguard is cool cause they have the bass woofers underneath the dancefloor so you really feel the fuking bass!! I know there were a few other spots around town.
this mix is pretty good too. the beat that starts getting built around :35 and dropped around 1:06 is wicked!

Respect is now at Jimmy's Lounge on Santa Monica and El Centro...
Its a pretty cool place. Although it seems there is something there everynight of the week which gets old...
Funky Sole is also there on saturdays and is free and a great night.
Also, Tilt, which is electro/house/whateverthefuckyouwanttocallit is on sundays...but kinda dead.
Well I don't really think there is much of an "underground" scene involving electronic music anymore so not quite sure how to respond to that.
But Funky Sole is all rare funk from all over there world spun by Miles (from Rootdown & Breakestra) and Egon (Stones Throw), and sometimes Cut Chemist.... and IMO could NOT be called mainstream.
