Bike Everyday! FuzzBeast's MFA Show! FREE FOOD + BEER!
Thread started by
FuzzBeast at 02.12.08 - 11:42 pm
This is two weeks from tonight, so I thought I'd start a thread about it.
There's going to be free food and beer at the start of the event..
THIS IS A ONE WAY RIDE, from Claremont back to Downtown, I've listed some public transportation options in the event post, or people can carpool.
I need as many people as possible to come to this, besides, you know it's gonna be fun!
reply
oh yeah, here's the event listing

How about coming back to claremont?
I am down, but i probably have a physics midterm the next morning... Well i dont know for sure, but thats usually how things turn out

For a return trip, if you need to get back to claremont, there's a bus, it only takes 2 bikes at a time, and after 10 or so it's only once an hour, This is my plan to return home.
The other option is to ride.
Or you could carpool.
OH and I should mention, COSTUMES OF ANY SORT are ENCOURAGED!!!!

for the most part...
there's one or two small, and I repeat very small, rolling hills in Laverne/ San Dimas...
But yeah, it's 33 miles or so with a couple gentle hills at one point, the rest is generally downhill.

Rollers, Kathryn and I will take the 5pm metrolink with you as well.
I've never taken it during rush hour. Is the train crowded around that time?
kyber02.22.08 - 10:00 am
reply
Dak and I will take that one, too. My experience is that they do get pretty crowded....and I don't think I've ever seen a bike on one? Will 5 (or more) of us with bikes be a problem?

metrolinktrains.com faq...

Do you allow bicycles on trains?
Bicycles are allowed, but there’s only room for two bicycles per train car. The conductor may require a bicyclist to relocate to a different car or wait for a later train due to crowding.
If you board with your bike, please use the bicycle latches located on the opposite end from the train’s restroom in each car to secure your bicycle.
Motorized or 3-wheel bikes are NOT allowed.

Thanks never, I was just getting ready to post that.
If we think crowding is going to be an issue, is anyone up for taking an even earlier train?
mr rollers02.22.08 - 10:18 am

Rollers, I am! I'ill know my:::gulp::: work schedule today, and see how early I can leave. Fuzz mentioned it's cool for people to show up early... we can go exploring!

"...we can go exploring!"
Heh...if I can get out there any earlier, I can put together a "places Stephanie was or was very nearly arrested as a teenager" ride.
Ms. Stephanie02.22.08 - 11:11 am
reply
"....was or was very nearly arrested as a teenager" " well which one?! spill it! ;)
mixtemotions02.22.08 - 11:14 am
reply
Well, I'm taking the day off work (in part so I can get to this on time), so if need be I can take an earlier train, which would at least leave more room on the later trains for the ridazz who can't make the earlier trains (whew! did that make sense?).
It looks like the trains run every 20 minutes or so and I would suspect there would be fewer comuters earlier in the afternoon, yes?
mr rollers02.22.08 - 11:34 am
reply
Also, as a reminder, there are more than one car per train, I think each train prolly holds about 10 bikes all together...
There's also the bus (oh noes!) each one takes 2 bikes, and it's as fast as the train. I've ridden this thing every day (almost) for the last year+ it aint that bad.
FuzzBeast02.23.08 - 4:15 am
reply
Just checked the weather report, it says clear by tonite.. and staying that way.
FuzzBeast02.24.08 - 4:02 pm
reply
I'm going to repeat this, part of my piece tues night will be YOUR bikes installed in the gallery (the other part is the rollicking bike ride across LA county), so, bring em', bling em', dress em up, CRANK them out or whatever... or just show up with a bike...
Oh and don't forget to bring your maximum readiness for FUN! Like I said earlier, costumes are encouraged, as are the usual hijinks, jumprope, infections, loud things, whatever you can think of.
FuzzBeast02.24.08 - 4:34 pm
reply
So...then...the consensus is that people will be meeting at, what, four-ish? at Union Station. Someone correct me if I'm way off.
PC02.25.08 - 2:20 am
reply
Consensus? We're the Midnight Ridazz, we don't reach consensus, we just dance around until something happens, or doesn't happen.
But srsly, I think I originally proposed 5pm, but the thinking was maybe it should be earlier. I can do that, what about everyone else? Again, keep in mind 2 bikes per train car, 10 bikes per train.
mr rollers02.25.08 - 8:23 am
reply
kyber doesn't get off work till 4 so we can't go to the train station till 5. but you guys can meet/leave at 4 if you need to. we'll be fine by ourselves.

Everybody should be going to this. Fuzzbeast has been asking us to go to this for a year. I don't see why anyone should have an excuse not to be there. I suggest you all take the metrolink from Union Station to get up Claremont station in time for the start of the show. Our bikes and presence is important for this event. Anyhow, I'm not going to chew you out for not going. But I'm going to make a strong effort to make sure I am there. Let's all support Fuzzbeast guys.

It would be very cool if some of you lucky (or are you unfortunate, I'm not sure) souls without work commitments could catch some of the earlier trains if there really is a limit to the number of bikes on each train. Those of us who have to catch the later trains because of work would hate to get bumped because of too many bikes.
