Lucy, Lucy ..
Didnt I see you hanging out with Mr. Raymond on Saturday.Remember , loft party , Raymond had the FuzzyMuffs..
Its a hat, they are ear muffs, its a purse..its Fuzzy Muffz..
This is the ride that inspired me to get off my ass and be a rida!
My wife and I were seated outside at The Alcove on Hillhurst last year and saw the hugest mass of bicyclists ever! I was blown away and have been a rida ever since.
THIS RIDE HAS THE POTENTIAL OF INSPIRING THOUSANDS!!!
Thanks to all the organizers and I look forward to it.
you moved? is this because you're part dolphin and belong in the ocean?
the ride was pretty much like all the rest of them, no? bunch of riders in the streets. late night out. the only difference was that people had t-shirts for the ride.
Yeah, I'm down here to learn how to speak to fish, and how not to kill them all. The roads are designed to be ridden. Smooth pavement everywhere. The drivers don't make a fuss. It's pretty awesome, but no Ridazz.
I think it was all the rolling hills on Cesar Chavez… etc.. and that I barely started riding is what made this ride seem the longest and toughest last year. I cramped really bad when we got to Echo Park. . The last Ride Arc was similar and it was a peace of cake. I try to tell my friends that once you start riding… 15-20 miles becomes really easy. Convincing them to make it to the ride is another thing. I lie and say it’s gonna be 6 or so miles. Sucks, I know, but at least it get’s them out and then they get mad and don’t come back again. But then… there are some that get hooked and just realized that they’ve biked that long and can’t wait for the next ride. As for me… can’t wait for this ride!!
Excellent! This was the very first ride I ever did as well and it absolutely blew me away! I would tell people about this ride and no one believed me. The estimate is that there were 1300 people that night. It was staggering... and beautiful. Let's do it again.
Also, I know you guys are still figuring out the route. Last year's route was great and I wouldn't mind doing it again (or going even longer). But I just wanted to add a note -- it seems as though the police have been harrassing a LOT of rides lately. So if we stuck to more isolated parts of town, it might be better in terms of corking and avoiding the PD's attention. Just a thought.
Fuck Yeah! I bought 5 shirts last year and I was hoping somebody would make some for this year as well. Everytime I wear one I wind up giving some cyclist the Ridazz website. Perfect way to spread the word...
So the shirts are on the way. New design. You'll like em. They'll be sold on the night of the ride. We will keep it nice n neat and form a line. First come, first served.
Last year's shirts were awesome -- and I missed getting one! Where does that line form? I'll be in it. Just tell me one thing -- how much for this year's SHIRT?
I think its gonna be alright. I'll ask Lucy about it and see if she wants to change the start. For the most part the cops at the NELA station are pretty cool. I'm thinking they have better things to do. I've noticed a run down security trailer at the parking lot, and haven't seen a security guard to go along with the trailer. If worse comes to worse, we'll go next door to the Mc Donalds parking lot.
shirts are gonna be 10 bucks even again. AAA brand.
We're gonna limit one shirt per person to make sure more people have a chance to buy one instead of letting people buy 10 at a time to hand out to their friends later on.
So if you want a shirt, you've got to get in line yourself.
THE RIDE WILL END AT THE START POINT.
PARKING LOT AT SAN FERNANDO AND FLETCHER,
NEXT TO THE MCDONALDS.
the shirt designs are awesome. but can you do anyother color besides black? how about brown or tan lie the poster? please please please. i'm sure you'll sell every shirt even if it's day-glo. well maybe not day-glo. well,,,, maybe even day-glo.
Just a suggestion: while I think it's a very good idea to limit the # of shirts one person can buy, why not make the limit two (2)? That way you can take $20 bills and not have to make change, the line will be shorter and move faster and we can all use the buddy system (one person to watch the bikes, one to stand in line and buy shirts).
sorry, above, I did jump the gun. i was designing something for the graphics but didnt finish in time. Meanwhile the above shirts were being made!
Anyhoo, awesome job...see you all there!
Last year was my first ride with Midnight Ridazz and so far was the best ride ever. I'm definitely riding this Friday to mark my 1 year anniversary. Too bad the route changed, but I know this is still going to rattle my bones. C ya there!
BTW, I was lucky enough to get my shirt last year as well. Just to rub it in a bit. hahahaha
i bet you guys never saw that coming. live/dead is one of the best live albums ever recorded. the number two spot would be live and dangerous by thin lizzy.
on Friday BLACK will be the only color available. if there is enough demand after the ride for more shirts, then another color will be made along with more black t-shirts.
we're riding out from sunset and glendale in echo park if you'uns want to join us. riding as a group will make that spot on glendale where we have to cross the genesis of the 2 freeway safer. there was a thread on that spot on here somewhere...
hello everybody,,some hollywood kids are riding from vine/sunset in front of the wa-mu at about 800 departing at 830 ,,(need to get there early, shirts in large) drop a line if youre down,..
eric that spot on genesis truly sux ,once i was stuck for like 7minutes,hehh,yeah a group definitely ,,hey a if anyone down for the hollywood meet up email scanzbond@yahoo.com
I could definitely ride from/through Washington and Vermont. Company would be welcome, as the Bicycle Oven is the farthest north that I've yet been on my bike.
Would you be up for leaving a bit early? I'd like to allow for the possibility of a flat and arrive in time to score a T-shirt.
I work less than 1/2 a mile from the start point so I rode my bike to work just for the ride tonight, yet I dont have a clue as to how long the ride will be nor do I know what route we're taking....please help.
The address for the McDonald's that is next door to the START and END is 3124 N. San Fernando Road. Its a huge empty parking lot also on San Fernando Road. You can't miss it.
17 miles. Easy ride. Some ups and downs, but nothing you can't handle. 1st stop will be an early stop so we can all stay together.
per Google Maps, the most direct surface route, Vermont-Virgil-Silver Lake etc is just 7 miles from Vermont and Wash to the start. I'm assuming that T-shirt sales will not begin before about 9:00 (?).
Would either or both of you be good with an 8:00 PM departure from Vermont and Wash? I'd be OK with earlier, but probably not later.
those who are driving will find a few secret spaces here:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1442337
on Roswell off of San Fernando Road. Check the signs and make sure the Parking sign arrows are pointed in the direction that favors you. Also, there are a couple businesses there that have open parking lots and the businesses are closed at night. No one will bother, and the parking lots have plenty of light.
*THERE ARE TWO HOMES ON THAT STREET, so please STAY QUIET and do not disturb the people that live there.
so is the route going to be posted or not? i thought lucy said friday morning?
this is going to be a really long ride for me (i've never even come close to 17 miles) and it'd be good to know the route so that i might plan a way to leave before it ends, just in case i'm having a rough time...
I was thinking of going to this thing at 7pm,
http://www.booksoup.com/author-events.asp
then meet up with the ridazz at either sunset and Glendale or at Glendale and Fletcher.
I'll be online till 6pm
Here's the map

Hey, Crespin and I live like a half mile away from the start point. We're gonna light the fireplace and have some drinks beforehand. So if anyone wants to make it a stopping point on the way to the ride let us know. We can't really host all 800 people going to this ride, but if you're interested, drop a note at: dav725@yahoo.com for our address.

Hell I'm just going there for the sordid tales and the collection of provocative props, hardware, footwear, sex toys and gadgets used exclusively in the adult industry. If there's some sweeties there, that's just bonus points!
No route will be posted. You'll be fine. NO RIDER LEFT BEHIND.
LET'S ALL MAKE IT A POINT TO STOP FOR SOMEONE IN NEED TONIGHT. WHETHER IT BE ENCOURAGING SOMEONE TO GET UP A HILL, OR SLOWING DOWN FOR SOMEONE IN THE BACK, CHANGING A FLAT, LENDING A SPARE TUBE, WHATEVER!!
DO IT. HELP A FELLOW RIDER TONIGHT.
We're going from Glassell Park, to Chinatown, to Boyle Heights, through Atwater, then back to the Start point.
I'll basically be observing this ride from a distance as usual.
Another quiet, yet windy-ass night in the Pegasus galaxy.
The Santa Ana's have died down and the God-Awful, southern headwinds have kicked back up after a calm 2 weeks.
Don't let the Wraith ruin the party!!!
OK. I'm heading out. I'll leave Vermont and Wash at 8:00 sharp. I'm taking Washington to Hill. I'll switch to Broadway in Chinatown, and take Broadway to San Fernando, to Fletcher.
I have no clue how this ride went.
I spent the entire thing behind sticking with the stragglers.
I heard things were epic.
The cops hassled ridazz in LA???????
I also forgot my camera, so I won't have pics this time.
Denny's after party was fucking great.
Yeah, we left Denny's a mess.
Thanks for the RAD T-shirts!
I made sure to buy a few.
The spoke cards were bad ass!
Thanks for letting me help distribute them.
not enogh spots at alllllllll really though ......next time you plan a ride plan a ride,,dont plan on me not waiting on like 25 percsent of the people being left behind.....nawmean on the real i had to go back,,, and ride back cuz they were left behind mm.......c
'mon on the please take it right>percent of the ride being left behid ,,,,,,nawmean ,,,isnt really cool,,,all im sayin is more stops [please plannit out ......f,,,,a,,,,,,,s,,,,,,,,,
I was fortunate enough to be towards the front for 3/4 of the ride. From there it seemed like a very well, planned ride. It definitely was more riding than 7-11 stops (which i didn't mind for a change) but they do serve a purpose (regrouping, refueling/bathrooms). But you have to expect when you have 800+ people (my ROUGH estimate) it is going to be a bit challenging to keep everyone together.
On massive rides like this maybe organizers work the crowd in teams. A sweap, a middle and a front team (or a variation) and all communicate on cells or walkies and that way if we get too spread out or for that matter if we are still tight, the other teams of workers can adjust the ride accordingly.
But regardless, i had a great ride. Thanks for setting this up!
One more stop towards the end of the ride may have been nice to let the stragglers catch up. There seemed to be a lot of new people!
I have only good words for the cops who stopped to check on a girl who fell....
This ride was the best I've been on!! It seems as though there is always a complaint about stragglers and the pace. Hopefully we can find a way to keep the group intact, however, this was no hustle ride. Great location, nice t-shirts whomever worked them, thanks!!!
The Police were really cool from what I saw. Santa Monica police should read this and take lessons from the officers who were present for this ride and appreciated a mass of cyclist just enjoying themselves and not presentling a threat to anyone - granted there was not the same traffic or pedestrian volume as say SMCM last week.
Awesome Ride!! The sequel was another success. A lot of new faces. The 2nd Friday rides are still the best.
A comment was made about the organizers sweeping and shepherding the ride, that task is everyone's responsibility. Anyone should be able to perform tasks as they see fit. The spoke card serves a bigger purpose than a decoration on your bike.
What the organizers do is present a theme, plan and scout the ride, and make the spoke cards. After that MR as a group takes over.
As someone has stated earlier, this is not Sins and Sprockets or the Wolfpack Hustle who have a core of people who shepherd the ride. The 2nd Friday Ride is everyone's ride.
Again, thanks to the Organizers for your hard work.
sean wrote - The fletcher thing at the end can only be blamed on some hijackers who ruined it for everyone. Elitist jerks.

Would you honestly say 'it was ruined'??
like evweyone else who 'followed' the pack back, I had no idea of the exact route, as posted earlier on the thread when I asked for the route to be posted. It didn't ruin it for me, in fact it was the best ride so far I've been on. Sorry to hear that you were disappointed!!
The very nature of Midnight RIdazz allows for so many things to change. I'm glad I ride with MR, more organised 'club' style riding would probably not suit me. Ride on and see youi tonight for The Goonies!!!!!
Update on the fallen rider at Alameda. She is OK, I checked up on her this morning and she's OK. She cut up her knee pretty bad though and probably suffered a concussion.
Thanks to all that stopped and checked up on her. Also, why wasn't surprised to see Rev Dak and Laharr when I went back for the rida. Thanks guys for always insuring that 'No Rida is Left Behind'. Also, good job She_Wolf for dressing the wound.
ya, more stops for beer would have been great,
but it was way fun, it was a bit rough, so it was nice.
and ya, the dennys after party made me want to explode afterwards lol.
ps WHAT UP DAN MUIRHEAD never expected to see another ojai local on one of these things, even if youre living in portland or wherever now and working at a bike shop in the valley. youre all over the place, man.
A bike culture faux pax? Sounds kinda hipster to me, but I know you RBI. Say it isn't true. Bottle cages on a track bike on the track maybe a faux pax.
Sorta reminds me of something I overheard two weeks ago. Some kid was genuinely concerned as he said " I think I lost some street cred when I put on a front brake".
If you wanted to go to a bar, then you should have gone to a bar instead. This was a "BIKE RIDE".
It was planned out perfectly. Perfect route, perfect route length, T-shirts, awesome spoke cards, etc. There was more "planning" involved in this ride than 98% of the rides I've ever been on.
Hell yes, and mega props to the organizers!
PS. If you can't handle a little bike ride, maybe riding bikes just isn't for you. Why don't you try something less extreme like powerwalking.
Death by tray... funny shiet. I never got into Eddie Izzard but this is funny. I will search some more.
Great ride everyone. Man there was a lot of people. Freaking Borfo and his skull thing was great. Hopping walls and that jaw thing... nice.
About the cops... the only thing that got to me was after leaving the 6th St. bridge, some cruiser decided to get into the intersection and stopped us from crossing the red. There was a small gap he got into and took off when our light turned green. I just thought it would've been nice for him to cork for us.
I glad I brought my beverages but the lack stops I don't mind at all. Last year.. I remember we had that supermarket stop and the bridge.
Sometimes it's nice to just ride especially that this year we have more rides that do many more stops.
All in all... great job last year and awesome ride this year.
and I'm glad to hear that girl is doing better.
well, itd be nice to stop somewhere where ladies can pee,
since we cant just whip it out of our pants like you boys can.
ha
dont get me wrong
it was an awesome route, probably one of the best so far, and it was a load of fun,
but stopping to piss, fill up, snack, or whatever you gotta do should be somewhere where you can do all those things, no?
The ride was well planned and put together, period. Major props goes out to all that worked on putting the t shirts together. Awesome design!! I'll be wearing mine with pride till the next La Noche de los Biciclistas Muertos!!!
When you have some ridazz saying something was too little, another saying it was too much, you know you hit the mark on planning! Sure you can always nit pick on one thing or another, but all in in all, well thought out. I thought the stops were just right and welcomed by just about all.
The one thing I keep trying to tell the slower ridazz to do and very few do it, is to get at the FRONT of the pack when it stops. Where do these slower ridazz stay when the pack stops? You guess it, at the back! So when the ride starts up again, they're at the back and ready to string out the pack even further the next few miles!
Also good to hear the girl that took a fall is better today. I really think we need to come up with an alternative to Alameda. The tracks will ALWAYS be a problem for a big ride. Has anyone gone down Broadway at that time of the night? It would be awesome to be taking the rides down that rather than Alameda.
Thanks Mr. Raymond for the shirt from last year!! I owe you one!!!!
i had a blast. i was wasted and i rode my ass off with 600 or 800 ridazz. i think there were an appropriate number of stops for the length of the ride. well done raymond. thanks, everyone, for a memorable ride.
"The one thing I keep trying to tell the slower ridazz to do and very few do it, is to get at the FRONT of the pack when it stops. Where do these slower ridazz stay when the pack stops? I agree. I'm not a strong rider but when you have a big group like we did last night, I figured if I took off close to the front of the pack and had to drop back, there would be a lot of room behind me for dropping back before I could lose the group.
fun ride ,props to the kids that put it together,,an arial shot of us all scattered would how been classic,,we take nieghborhoods/streets,,thanx, i still would really like to get a shirt,,if poss,,well either way fun ride...
If you want more British Funny, tivo or check out Swingers on the Sundance Channel. Season 2 just started and is as solid and as tongue in cheek as season 1.
I was originally going to send some "ghost-ridazz" in place of myself.
That isn't going to work though, they would most likely end up getting left in the dust if I'm not there to help them along.
Aye, my ass definitely yearns to be down there more often.
And as far as bar stops, piss on that.
I go down there to get away from that up here in the desert.
Because that's all people like to do up here.
Anyway, this shit sounded bad ass, 800+ ridazz and no static from law enforcement.
Hopefully something of this magnitude happens again real soon.
Any excuse to get away from the dull desert is a good one!!!
Wanted to point out that Raymond is using the money left over from the La Noche T shirts to use on TOY RIDE.
No one is making a profit on shirts..all going back to rides yall..
Just wanted to make it transparent.
Awsome Ride! This is my fourth or fifth time and I've never seen such a big turnout; seems like the more ridazz the more pumped up I get. This was the first time I stayed in front the whole time (with the exception of some corking stops) and the pace did seem much faster than others, but I loved it! Strong work people!
Hey, anyone know the deal with that crazy minivan that was following us with the back door open with some dude with a camera hanging out? Talk about hazzards, that fool was driving into oncomming traffic. Someone leading the ride was super-slick and told the driver that we were making a left at the next intersection and when we got there, everyone pulled right and left the van ditched. Great move!
Cars getting in the middle of the ride sucks. If people want to film us, they should be on bicycles like everyone else. Screw them.
PELIGRO La Noche De Los Biciclistas Muertos II
Kicked phuken NALGAS!
THX LAPD!
LAPD actually over did with the assistance, with a particular female that had rolled over the tracks with a lil BING BANG 2 her knee & head, hope she’s felling better!
great turnout but as always some mishaps that made the ride less fun.
girl falling down and blacking out to the point of almost calling ambulance and only a small group of riders stopping to check on her while everyone else keeps riding. wtf??
there was a female newbie rider that was there with her friends that let her fall way behind and thought it was ok to let others be responsible for not letting her get lost. they gave her a beat up bike and didnt even bother to make sure there was enough air in the fucking tires. lame
lastly, because there are going to be mishaps that cause different people to be left behind and no way to make enough spoke cards for everyone, why wasnt the route posted so everyone could know where the fuck they are going if they fall behind?
as stated above in my post the point of that is if people get left behind for different reasons weather they stop to see if someone that fell is ok or they have to make sure a slower rider is not getting lost or if they are a slower rider they will be able to get back on to the ride path and not have to make up a new path just to be able to get back. not too difficult to understand is it?
Hey, Borfo.
I wasn't there, but I notice from the pictures that you're sporting an EZ-1 Trike.
I still have yet to show mine apart from the PDX engagement it was briefly ridden on.
The pistol-smoke from the bottom bracket has brought me to change it and the left crankarm.
I'm thinking of putting an Xtra-cycle system on it to give it a 26" or 700" drive wheel, and to haul pizza!!!
Posting the route before the ride is a recent trend. Personally, I like it best when I don't know when we are going beforehand. I like the surprise.
Most of us remember when you only were given the theme the Tuesday before the ride. The website wasn't up yet so you got it by word of mouth or the mailing list. But things, change some for better and some for the worst, I still can't tell. One thing remains constant is that " No Ridazz Left Behind".
As the ride gets bigger, this becomes harder because there is a mistaken assumption that there are organizers that will help you out. As I've said before the group takes care of itself. That means you. Make sure that the bike you're riding is sound. Be accountable for your own safety. And when you see someone broken down stop if you can offer assistance. And most importantly, quit your whining and Ride On!
My rant is to all that complain about this that and the other. It is really hard to please everyone. All I can say is try to plan a ride and you can see how difficult it is to forsee everything. The organizers are different group every month. Making suggestions in this thread for the next ride might not even be read.
I wanted to put together a ride for Day Of The Dead but then realized that the OG ridazz had had rides every year before me so I decided to leave it up to them. :)
the second one last year had a lot of hills and i think only 1 stop on one of the bridges....I know a TON of people were left behind cuz of the hills. some say it was bad planning not having a stop with a restroom available. huge ride though....had to have been upwards of 800-1000 ridazz.
on the other hand, because the stop was nowhere near a liquor store, it was an actual ride and not a "hang out in parking lots" ride.
obviously there needs to be a middle ground, or something.
This year Mr Raymond and I wanted to let someone else take the "Noche Ride" and "Toy Ride"(crespin, hint)
I hope whomever takes it will put in the soul and heart that we've always tried to show you guys.
There's great ridazz on here and I simply wanted to see others step up and kick ass.
Im old, cranky rida now and probably be best to step aside and let the new blood kick ass ,but yes, i wanna put the pressure to make it a kick ass ride.
