Any chance this ride will end up at Wadsworth Theater, across the street from Veterans Hospital (near UCLA)? The AIDS Life Cycle riders will be arriving there and having their closing ceremonies at 4pm.
That's a cool idea... I wish I new about it before!
I think for this ride we're gonna stick close to the sand and head down to Venice. Have some drinks/food at a dope bar/grill and continue on looping back to the starting point. 15-20 miles total.
Riding south from Santa Monica to Hermosa is a nice easy ride. Just make sure to turn left on Lincoln and go on the bike path. If not, you end up in an out of the way mess. Going North from SM is a lame ride.
Is there a plan for people leaving from Hollywood area to go out there? Where and when should we meet?
too much peer pressure on the pier pressure ride! awesome fun! i've acquired another kazoo with an attachable funnel on the end to distrubute it's sounds to the pier and beyond.
great meeting shelby and the other valley folks. see you soon!
Nice ones... especially the porno shots of my bike at the start! Thanks for all the help!
And thanks to Alec for all that lead action... don't put your foot down!
Ayyoooo...LEE !~--------------
lets kick another Pier Pressure Ride THIS SATURDAY before the Wetside Ride....thats too weeks!
Wetside will start around 7p, so its perfect timing.. It would be f*in FANTASTIC to be riding around all day and night over here, time to use the sun for all its worth!
Thanks Marcus for hooking this up. I've been slammed lately. I'll be there for the day ride but won't be able to chill for the water gun ride. See ya there and I'll bring spokies for those first timers...
Probably going to be a super busy day at the beach too...
If you're driving, I recommend parking off of Colorado, like around 18th, then just coast down to the... coast.
Hey, how did the bikes VS sand work out last time? Did you guys bring your bikes onto the beach? Or lock 'em in the parking lot or boardwalk area?...........or wha'
If I roll with my audio equipment am I gonna regret it?
If I bring margaritas will people help me get rid of 'em? ; )
Margaritazz! I'm suddenly feeling like this will be the best ride ever.
Eric, last time, we only had one bike veer off the path into the sand, with no problems what so ever...
But, we didn't stay on the boardwalk too long because it was so crowded.
Bring the tunezz and margaritazz... we'll take care of the rest!
Oh man! Get ready for Pier Pressure 777.
I talked to our friend on the bus, and he said he'll be there with pigeons and 5mL... and of course his wife's bike.
I don't have the right plug in to play it right now... but a guy I work with just showed me the pilot for that show... super funny! I never watched it cuz I thought it was lame.
I was wrong.
how about making it a three's company themed ride? it is, after all, in santa monica. maybe we can stop by the ol' regal beagle for drinks and say hello to mike the bartender.
the ride through marina del rey would be cool. it's a little over 11 miles to that bar area in manhattan beach from the santa monica pier. a really nice ride the entire way.
I'm down to bring the tunes if someone wants to bring the Margaritas (or Daquiris). Any word on an available pool? We can turn this into Pool Pressure.
We should play volleyball. Or soccer.
We should all have temporary tattoos of a margarita glass with a one-eyed pigeon in it waiving a bicycle seat.
How about a temporary tattoo of Eric smoking drugs and coming up with temporary tattoo ideas?
Just kidding, but seriously.... we'll work on it.
I'm down for Smashball!
Last I spoke to BB Dan he was coming... If you need help with beverages or anything let me know: lee.diskin@gmail.com
That event seems chill. might work out perfectly with the trip down to Manhattan.
Anyone got any caaarazy ideas for a gmap pedometer route for SMP to Manhattan and back to Venice???
Before the ride I wrote "Goal: have the best ride ever" on a piece of scrap paper and stuck it in my pocket. The ride was so good that even when people started chanting "best ride ever" I forgot it was there.
omg, I'm still giggling like a school girl about "mustache to pass"
and I'm not forgetting about pigeons, either
how about "no entry"?
the internet saves my life at the office
I love how at the gallery, there was this girl who got mustached by marcus, and she just kept talking about how she had pasties on. Needless to say she took it upon her self to pull her shirt down on multiple occasions for no reason that I can think of.... and yeah, there were definitely no pasties in sight.
No idea what that was all about, but we need more things like this! Ohhhh yes, I'm a pig.
Brendan, dunno if I'm going to do the ride tonite, but I will be in LA, I'll give you a call regardless, we can waste the night doing something stupid.
All facial hair aside... IT'S PIER PRESSURE 6 THIS SATURDAY!
BE THERE!
SO MUCH EXCITEMENT!
YOUR TICKET PAYS FOR THE WHOLE SEAT BUT YOU'LL ONLY NEED THE EDGE!!!!!
GET! Spoke cards first come first served!
WITNESS! The Venice Pier Circle of Death!
RACE! To the Mustache Bridge for hooligan shenanigans!
RECOIL IN FEAR! As Sharpies attack! Who knows where this time!
Ahh, Eric! Would there be a possibility of bringing your famous Margaritazz? I'll help with the cost. Or I can bring cups... let me know what I can do to help man.
Sorry I bailed before pizza. I had to go far far away in little to no time!
Today was a fucking BLAST. From the blister geyser to somehow becoming the owner of the cutest dog ever for 5 minutes to the weirdest circle of death on the end of the Venice Pier, I plan to come back again and again and again. Thanks guys!
And Shannon spilled bear all over my neck! I am HONORED!
seriously, this has the best ride ever. I kinda want this thread depicting its awesome-ness to be deleted just to prevent it from becoming filled with assholes. Unless I'm dead i'll see y'all at the next pier pressure, hopefully with some pink tacos.
Another great pressure! It's almost the end of Pier Pressure though...
Don't be sad.
Instead, let's celebrate!
I think next month will be the final Pier Pressure and it'll be the best ever... I'm thinking of having more drinking, more sharpies and more face paint than ever before! AND at the end we'll all have a bitchen Bar B Que!
Whatta ya think? Also, are there fire pits in the Marina Del Ray area?
Right. A little further down the bike path towards El Segundo are Fire pits for BBQing. Don't know if you have to reserve them but since its after Labor day, its probably not an issue.
Hey, is there any particular actual reason that Pier Pressure has to end? I mean, why kill a good thing? That ride on Saturday was completely spastic wacky fun. I GOT DA VIDEO TO PROVE IT, YAAAARRR (waiting for slow-ass upload to complete)
Nicely done video.
But, did the music I use in one of my recent inspire the track you used? Just wondering.
My DJ Icey track had more of a darker tone IMO.
thanks :-) it's only the second video of any kind i've ever made and admittedly i got really lazy on the editing (editor kept crashing). the music choice wasn't inspired by anything in particular, though it is deliberately not dark (and i like the dark stuff) on account of the daylight and silly fun nature of the ride, it's just random and perky (and BT so it's good). I was thinking for the next time I shoot video at Critical Mass, however, the soundtrack should be Lo-Fidelity Allstars Battleflag... - awesome track...
Gah! I just started Pier Pressure and it may be ending? MY HEART HAS SHATTERED. Where oh where will I ride for less than 10 miles in 3 and a half hours? What bike event will I be able to go to that will spawn 20 inside jokes during the span of the ride? WHERE WILL I FIND JOY???
I kid. But as long as it's not this weekend or the weekend of October 12, the next Pier Pressure will rule. PARTY TIME!
22nd doesn't work for me... I'll be in Vegas for my Pop's 50th birthday. Pier Pressure is GENERALLY the 2nd Saturday of each month...
Soooo, let's pick out something that works in October.
October 6th or 13th? Also, It would start a bit earlier to enable all the drinking and not-miles that we need to cover in true PP fashion!
i cant do the 6th cause i'm crewing for brian who is doing the 508.
i'm still waiting for my prizes from the first LA scavenger hunt. it was fun but a bit of a mess- stops weren't ready and we had to wait as other teams showed up.
Next Pier Pressure should really be about pressuring strangers into doing weirder stuff than painted moustaches. the sky's the limit. especially with all the smooth-talking cool kids in MR.
(yes, its ironic to pressure others into pressuring others)
Say word! I'm slammed at work, so I haven't been able to plan much yet, so speak up and let's make something happen.
BBQ, Pressure-type antics, food, and booze.
Alright, so I say we F dockwieler and head to Mustache Bridge as usual. See where it goes from there. I still don't mind hittin' up Abott's Pizza either...
But, the 'dock' seems to be the only place to BBQ... so if we skip that part, we should have a bitchen pary anyway.
I don't give a care, cuz I can make all of your wildest dreams come true.
I just realized that my above comment may have made it sound like I have a thing for you Ryan!
But I'm talking about my friend Nicole... she was at the last pressure and had her eye on you... that's what I meant!
Alright.
So what exactly goes on at this ShinDig?
I'm just trying to experiment with the many different rides I see posted here so that I could emulate them on future truck trips.
Or is this even considered a ride?
Not screaming, but it seems more of like a big-ass party that lingers in one particular area and goes on to the next.
Whatever it is, if it involves going home with full memory cards, then definitely count me in.
With a few other events happening Saturday night in Hollywood I think we should take the ride east. Stopping at liquor stores, art galleries, dinners, and random free events; slowly making our way toward Cut and Paste and MASH. Ex.-We can stop at the Brendan Monroe show and all climb into the giant stomach art together. I have approval of our Lee-dur. Any objections?
I'm sorry I deleted the all the gathering info on accident! But I thought the Vanilla Ice lyrics were WAY more important.
We will meet at the Santa Monica Pier Canon at 1 leave at 2. Special incentive for showing up on time is a limited run of just 30 special edition spoke cards hand made... by hand. Seriously, these are the dopest cards I've ever seen. First come, first served.
As far as the route is concerned: I say the "free stuff heading east" route sounds fun, but also I think people are planning on a "loop" route that we have grown acustomed to. I don't really give a care as long as we keep it real. As the ride comes to an end, I'm sure we can work out rides, groups, or what not to get to MASH.
Oh man, missed it, my bike was all kinds of fucked up from a Friday night ride in rain. Had to replace the chain and spent the rest of the day cleaning the bastard and fucking around with my derailleurs, so I could go on the Long Beach Bike Tour on Sunday in a single gear (unintentional) for 26 miles (I guess it's time to build a fixedgear).
Holla LA! Thanks for knowing how to have fun LA! I cannot believe some of you think the scene is not strong down there, everyone I tell about Friday night is amazed, 200 some odd people is the pissin' ass rain is near mind blowing. I had a great time riding with everyone and cannot wait until I make it down again. I also want to re-extend the invitation for anyone coming up here, I have a huge place is Oakland that is always open to traveling bike nerds. I will be on here as much as possible and I welcome anyone to check out my site (and hopefully post info about upcoming races), http://www.alleycatracing.com
Woot!
I have never been on this. It seems like every-time this does come back I never make it out. I will make moves this time as I have heard nothing but good things.
