So us Cretins and Nutterbuckets folks here in San Diego want to host a ride finally for all you midnight ridazz to come down. We are thinking Saturday March 15. Just want to know your input.
Plan it out soon... if you give everyone enough advance notice, tickets on Megabus can be had from LA -> S.D. for $3.00. They sort of have a no bike policy, but if you take a late bus the driver is often cool about it.
Wait, did I just post something constructive? Shit.
i am down to ride there, but definitely DO NOT make it a Midnight Ridazz event or a requirement for the SD Ride. just like a bonus ride TO the SD Midnight Ridazz Ride!!!
THANKS LUDICHRIST !!! SEE YOU THIS SATURDAY??
Also, Brendan was on the last LA2SD ride with 20 others, myself included.. stop acting like its such a bad idea. WHO ELSE IS DOWN??
I did la2sd...I'd really like to go again....for sure. Anyone who can't make the ride down could either take the train or drive....then do the ride that the SD people organize. I hope we can get a group together to do this...lets go!
also, fyi...
this ride is NOT crank mob day, which is March 22.
crank mob is the third Saturday AFTER the first friday, which is not necessarily the third saturday of the month.

I'M DOWN....
Great Idea Diego..
I think we should arrive a day early to regenerate our bodies..
what do you think marcus?
Ride down there on Friday the 14th. Get some sleep. Wake up on Caturday refreshed and ready to explore the city. Take Amtrak home on Sunday. Done and done. I seriously doubt that 95% of the ridazz can't handle that.
SHIT!!! I think I'm out of town on the 14/15.
Karma hates me.
Amtrak has been really cool to me so far. When I bring my Xtracycle,
they've let me put it in the baggage compartment whole. So a tall bike might fly the same way. The official policy is you need to box it if you can't find a spot in the provided bike racks. I think it's like 6 per car.
On the street....or track, it's up to the conductors. My experience has always been positive.
@kck: The bike policy on the Amtrak from San Diego to LA (and vice versa) is "bring 'em!" They have bike racks on every car, but in my experience they always have different places where they want you to put your bike, and it's not always in the racks. When Fuzz, Kyber, Tern, Rich, Mark Edge and I took the Amtrak back from San Diego a couple of months ago, they had us put our bikes in a giant unused luggage car that could have held a hundred bikes.
@sexypie: Riding to San Diego after Friday MR? Yeah, that'll happen.

As much as we might not like to miss a MR ride, this is our best bet.
I just talk to Borfo, he sounds like he is into the ride to SD, after MR. This all depends if I'm able to get away from home (as I'm sure it is with Joe) that weekend. It looks very promising that it may happen.
PC, you are welcome to come along with us for the ride down there after the MR ride, if you want. I for one would sure love to ride down to SD with PC on B-I-K-E-S, with the skidz and the JB, and whoever else it may fancy.
Thanks, but I'd way rather leave Friday morning and get there Friday night. The scenery is better, there are more places open when you want to stop for food or an Americano, and you wake up Saturday morning all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and shit, instead of arriving Saturday morning exhausted and bleary. Hey, but what do I know? I'm just an unemployed hod carrier.
I might have to push off my trip for this.
Would be cool to train up on Thursday and roll down Friday with PC and who ever else wants in. It's an great ride.
Though maybe leave from LB this time?
Aw! I wish that my first ride after not riding for 3 months would be to SD but I doubt that's a good idea. I'll bus or train it down there for sure though! woo SD!!!

not that anyone cares, but sexy said:
"Sure, you have used all of you 'wit' reserves, so you are going to go out when you have FINALLY made a couple funnys."
Psh... "finally". Ha. I've been dropping funnies like it's my job. You're just pissed cuz most of em landed on your head. Now what bitch??
(Goddammit sexy, I'm trying not to clutter this thread, look what you're making me do.)
i have to confess that the first time I went to San Diego I saw a number of gay men walking around the Gaslamp and I nicknamed the city...
"Man Digaygo"
(pronunced MAN' diGAY'go)
and I also have to confess that when were riding there a couple months ago that i started chanting it in my head. It kept me moving at a decent pace, but now I wonder about that chant.
I would love to ride to SD again, but i gotta werk friday... :/
what's wrong with riding saturday morning and getting there a couple hours before the night ride?! I mean, our legs will be rubber but it's a fucking party ride, i'm sure we can do another 15-20 miles at 10 mph!
Anyone else down to ride saturday?
Anyway, either way imma try to make it, i'll just train it saturday if i gotta.
after the last ride to SD we went out and got all that beer, then everyone fell asleep b4 we could drink it!! ZzzzZZZzzzzZZZ!! heh. Lance... if you go on too many rides and get fired do you think I can have yr job at the Smoke House? srsly, are they hiring?
See, that's what I'm saying! You guise are all sitting behind your keyboards, all like "oh yeah, I can just ride down there after Midnight Ridazz and I'll still feel like riding and partying all night." The hell you will! You'll feel like doing what we all did, which was watching about an hour of bad TV on a soft bed and then conking the fuck out.
Go on Friday morning. You will be happier, prettier, stronger, more interesting conversationally, two inches taller, and a better dancer. I have scientific studies to prove this, with data carefully compiled by somber clean-shaven men carrying clipboards!
I don't think I'm quite strong enough to make the LA - SD ride quite yet....so if any drivers / train riders want to head down together, that would be coooool.
^^take me off that list, i never said i would go friday morning.
i said i will go after the MR ride on friday night, arrive saturday morn, and freak my bed til the SD ride.
i also said only if Sexy was serious would i go.
i'm not sure what I'm saying. Too much time has lapsed between writing it, and reading it now. So the context is lost, as is the meaning, as am i.
Remember when I speak, I am the word of god. It might not make sense now, but the magical works in mysterious ways. Or is it the miracles work in magical ways. I forget.
If this operation's still planned for the March 15th, I'll have a sitdown with the council.
Go over issues like:
-Who will be able to pedal down with the "5% Movement".
-If I'm the only one capable, then "Rock-Paper-Scissors" over a car/truck, and who provides it.
-What days I'll have to exchange in order to be fully covered.
-How many extra bicycles I'll have to provide for my friends who aren't, everyday cyclists.
-Length of recovery time for said, non-cyclists.
If I could get these issues worked out and put into a form of action,
this could be another, semi-epic, trek that could become a reality.
no, just looking forward to the future.
THE FUTURE = BEYOND THIS WEEKEND.
SD is going to be nice, not sure if i want to drive or ride yet, bc last time i was really too tired to enjoy the city. but we'll see. Still leanign towards riding there, leaving Friday night/Saturday morning...
I plan on doing Midnight Ridazz the night before. Sleeping. Then going the next morning.afternoon. Staying the night at a hotel and then cumming Sunday. Then I'm returning Sunday.
listen, go down SATURDAY morning.... in fact all you SD heads need to get ya azzes up here friday night casue the mother of all rides is going to be insanely fun.... (wear a body condom)
ride- a little under 20 miles, the ride will end at the corner of Harbor and Broadway on a boat pier.
After-party- Our friends are throwing a warehouse party and invited all of us. It's about 3 miles from ending location. They are a bunch of burners and you will probably notice a bunch of props from burningman if you have gone recently.
I will be coming up Friday the night before to ride MR.
How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! How rad?! So rad.
If I do, I can take up to 4 other passengers PLUS 6 or 7 bikes! (two roof mounts + hitch mount) I'm taking my tall bike. All I'd ask is some gas monies.
For all you taking the train or that super-mega-whatever bus for $3, I might be able to take your bike.
iiiiinterestintg..... I think that might just work!
Fri: Mother of all face slapping
Sat : train to SD. SD!!! SD!!!
Sun: Ride home!
Mon(early early am probably!): Conk the eff out!!!
Wait, is it up hill from Diego?
I'm in either way and hella stoked at that !
ARE WE THERE YET ?
ARE WE THERE YET ?

i was born and reared through eight long years in the balboa park beach zoo city and have not cared to visit there since exodus of family until this moment when I can be born there again as a Sandiegope.
I still do know quite a few peops, so I'll see about crash pads.
I be doing the mother, playing saturday, and trying to ride back Sunday. But, Spook, E-rock...I'm willing to take the train if you have enough poolpartiers, I'm willing to pitch in for gas if you don't.
Yeah I think LudiChrist is right.
There aren't a lot of places to camp that are near enough to anything to make it doable.
I can take (4) ridazz I think. To be fair, PC and Robert Stansfield hit me up first, followed by NewB Rich and Markedge. So I'm full I think. If someone doesn't make it, or I can squeeze more in, I'll let ya know; but my place it small.
I'll see if I can find other peeps down here who might have some space.
Why don't you folks in SD, get a bunch of old mattresses.
Obtain a location to freely hold all mattresses for the night.
Place all the mattresses at the location. As one big bed.
Buy mite-proof, water-proof, cotton/polyester covers for the mattress (we all pitch in for the cost of these). This is to protect us from any critters that may be living in mattress.
Everybody bring their own pillow, sleeping bags, blankets, etc.
My bed can accommodate 3 more females and my living room can accommodate about 4 other peeps.
I can fit about 4-6 peeps at my place if ya need to stay I live 2 blocks from Drew. Hit me up, Can prob fit more but will be cramped (just like my style)....
There are many confusions here about riding when and where.
MARCUS: When I was in Texas, people would say.. "Fuck me runnin'!"
Also, I resent the comment about slapping my mother to make out with my sister. I was adopted. I would totally make out with my sister, she's hot. She was also in boarding school until she was 18 and came back perky in all the right places. Oh no. You've stirred dormant feelings. Thanks.
...anyway, if we can't achieve a critical mass (heh heh) for a Friday morning ride, I'll probably take the train down on Saturday morning and still spend the night there Saturday.
BTW, people, you can bring your bike on the train. No need to put it in anybody's car or truck.
Hey Funanu,
What train are you riding? It's normally $29 each way.
If you have AAA,( I know some of you don't have cars) and book 3 days or more in advance its like $25 or 26 each.
I think you can take Metrolink to down far as Oceanside, were you may be able to switch to the Coaster(SDs local train) I'll have to look.
Hey Drew,
my sister took the train to san diego couple times and she said it was 30bux round trip. i'll have to ask her again. i dont care if i go by car or train. i just dont want to miss it.
OK, so I looked in to taking the Metrolink to Oceanside then switch to the Coaster. It looks kinda dicey. The coaster doesn't operate on Sundays, so you would have to take Amtrak back anyway..... so ummm.... OH LOOK.. A DUCK!!!!
Dan and Stephanie have confirmed. I'm expecting to put two bikes in the trunk and two on the rack. There is the possibility of putting three people in the back and one more bike on the rack if it is cool with everyone else, I'll let you know. I have a roomy hybrid.
Oh yeah, he changed his name huh?
He was going to Vegas for 6mon. but I didn't think he'd left yet.
I'm sure he'll pop up somewhere. I just remember telling the two of you that you could stay at my place for this ride. Trying not to be a dick and cut him out.
I still want to go but i will need to procure a tandem for my lady. would anyone care to lend one to me for the weekend? Also is there one down there already so that I dont have to worry about the slight possibility of a problem on the train?
I'm coming, possibly with a friend. Almira had a blast on the Los Angelopes ride, but her ass was most sore by the time we got home. She's not used to riding. She was expressing all kinds of interest in doing more rides earlier in the evening, but by the time we got home at 4am, was threatening my life, so I have no idea which way that one is gonna go.
But definitely count me in. And I wanna take the train so I don't have to hassle with arranging a ride.
Alright kids which train are we catching? I 'm leaning towards the 12:25 pm departure, It 'll allow us to recover from the anniversary the night before and arrives us In Diego in perfect time to see the golden sunset on the beach..
I'm still yanking chains to get either a trucking job with weekends off, or a shift with my current company that has weekends off.
So far, I've only been able to catch what I can.
This MR anniversary and San Diego run look tight.
But, as of late, it seems all my days off are always on "non-activity" days where I appear to be the only one unchained.
I'll drink a nice, tall glass of sleepy-juice right now.
Why aren't you all starting this at the Fountain? That is a crown jewel of San Diego's bike culture. If it has to do with drinking, I found the coolest low price liquor store a few blocks from the fountain.
Everybody who has not been to the fountain from LA, would totally be at aaahhh, at what you got, to start your rides.
Okay, last night I was talking to some of the most fun riders I know and they didn't know about San Diego! But, they were totally down to go.
I agree with Borfo. (Did I just say that?;) There's been Portland invasion, San Fransisco, Salton Sea...now San Diego, then Austin this summer, then...THE WORLD!
Bikes, travelling, bike people travelling and having slumber parties and bbqs and friending the friendless, YEAH!
Saturday go down. Sunday come back. There's going to be floor space in various hotel rooms booked already. And theres going to be some offers from SD folk. I believe some Ridazz will be riding back up.
what more info do you want? Maybe you and Annie should get a room. Take the train. My car is presently in a state of flux as far as space is concerned. I might end up joining Pillow Case - worse case scenario.
Who has costumes for the Sat. ride? If we go down there with our regular clothes, we are going to look stupid. Those SD kids are so off the hook with the outfits. We should all try to represent.
I talk to them and they have some serious fun outfits together. I know some of you are boring when it comes to this part of the ride, and would never contribute in that way, but those of you who are willing should make the effort.
Any Ideas...?????? Post Apocalypse, use your imagination. What will the world people things, or animal look like after the apocalypse? What groups will be left?
Are people still thinking about going, and not sure how, what, huh or who?
The easiest way: Get to San Diego. Find the start of the ride. Ride. Party. Go home.
One of many complicated ways: Arrange for some lodging, the night OF. Get to San Diego. Find the start of the ride. Ride. Party. Go back to said lodging. Sleep. Wake up. Go home.
How I'm doing it: Booked a room for me & ms. s in San Diego. Carpooling to San Diego with Borfo early. Go exploring on bikes. Find a place to get drinks and dinner in the evening. Hang out. Ride to the start of the ride. Ride. Party. Make an ass of myself. Ride back to my room. Sleep. Wake up. Check out. Get some food. Go home.
----
Is there a large bar & grill, or something similar that serves BEER & FOOD, that can host the 30+ ridazz that will be arriving that evening? We need some place for us to congregate, hang out, drink and eat, near the START, so we can mass, and ride to the start in force.
Rev. Dak has expressed interest in the same idea Eroc.
Let's just keep in touch and have a location we can all meet each other at a certain time. From what I understand, the CVS we are meeting at for the startpoint is on the top of the hill where the college town is. Theres lots of things up there. But let's work this out please. Time will pass by sooner than we think.
I think it'd be best if we decide on a time to show up in SD, my guess is that i'll be there around 5-6pm, that leaves about 3 hours to dick around before the ride starts....
I hope to be there a bit sooner. But if you want to meet at 5:30 then we will set that as the time. now we need a place. Preferably a Bar/restaurant or a secluded park to drink at...
yes, what borfo is saying. I hope to be there early, relax. Check into the hotel, eat. explore, and meet everyone before the ride, and ride to the ride, if you know hwat I'm sayin... I'm just wondering if there is a place we can go, that is near, and Pokez is AWESOME, but it's neither near the start, nor is it big enough for us all.
A place like Zeitgeist (in SF) was perfect. HUGE, bike friendly and near the start.
Just to give you a heads up. The downtown area of SD stops selling alcohol at 12 midnight. This is to keep all the low-lifers out of the downtown area. But will that stop us? Hells no!!!
First time I felt the wrath of this law, I was gripped with fear! Don't let this happen to you.
A friendly neighborhood bar I recommend is call bluefoot they are on the corner of 30th and Upas booze/pool and right next door is commonwealth cafe and around the block is Lefty's chicago pizza(fucking good), sushi, and veg-in-out a vegan eatery.
They let us lock our bikes on the big railing they have outside.
this is only about a mile from starting point.
I will be working at the bike shop in hillcrest (mission hills bike shop) on saturday, stop by and say hello if you like.
Ummm,
Barfoot is a decent size bar and might do for the pre-ride drinking.
Lefty's is a cool place, but is waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy fucking too small for y'all. I'll try and come up with at decent sized place to eat before hand. Gimme a day on it. Also I'll put my number in my profile, so you can call me when you're comin down. I might be able help ya if you have questions.
Can someone update the ride post with more information regarding the pre-ride events (pizza/bar/etc), so that everyone can be on the same page.
Also, what is the parking situation like in that area for parking overnight, I imagine those of us who drive will be leaving our cars there until sometime Sunday...
Meeting at The Corner of University Ave and 32nd (CVS Parking Lot)
The ride will end at a pier at the corner of Harbor and Broadway in Downtown SD.
The after party will be less than 3 miles from the endpoint.
You can park on all the streets that have meters since Sunday parking is not metered.
Please make sure you don't park in the parking lots unless you pay to park.
I recommend parking at the endpoint so after the ride and party you don't have to charge any hills. You rather charge the hills(small) before the ride than after all the goodtimes.
All street metered parking is free Saturday at 8PM till Monday 6AM. Just make sure you read the signs
I'm guessing we'd try to keep youz gais, not run you off.
Can't speak for Tommy, but I'm up for showing y'all round.
Guess it depends on when everyone gets up and goes home.
But if ya wanna ride, we will ride.
A couple of restaurants near the start of the ride that might be able to accommodate a large group are:
Saigon 4455 El Cajon Blvd
(at Highland Ave)
San Diego, CA 92115
(619) 284-4215
This is a family style Vietnamese place with a huge dining room. It's located about a mile away from the starting point. Most of the entrees are less than ten dollars and serve two to three people. There are plenty of vegetarian options but I don't know if anything is truly vegan. They serve beer and wine. I've never spent more than twenty dollars here and never left without at least another meal's worth of leftovers.
El Comal 3946 Illinois St
(between Lincoln Ave & University Ave)
San Diego, CA 92104
This is traditional Mexican food just two blocks from the start of the ride. The food here is fantastic and they have a full bar. I don't know how veggie friendly it is.
@ Limeyfly and Joe Borfo
I am headaing down for the ride, so count me in.
Were there any accomidations set up to sleep? I saw at the begining of the thread there was mentioned, but I saw nothing about where peeps were going to sleep.
Sunday we are having a pancake breakfast on the corner of Alabama and Lincoln (Dak and Steph have been to the house). Then we plan on riding after the bfast.
There is a mexican place called Ranchos about 3 block from the start point (3910 30th St at University) that has alot of veggie/vegan options; and meat too. Not totally sure how many peeps we can cram in to it, but th foods good and it's not expensive. We would totally take it over. The cool thing is if we met at one and it didn't swing, the others are close.
Just a thought.
Since the list is now <50, I don't think either Ranchos or El Comal, or any other neighborhood restaurant is going to be large enough for everyone. The best bet now is probably the Bluefoot.
something tells me they arent going to let us take our bikes up into our rooms at night. where are we gonna leave them? will it be like vegas and they cut the locks if we chain them all together outside?
something tells me they arent going to let us take our bikes up into our rooms at night. where are we gonna leave them? will it be like vegas and they cut the locks if we chain them all together outside?"
maybe Harry could talk to the hotel. (Harry tell me if I'm off my rocker)
To see if there is a storage room, or service area you could lock up in.
The only real problem is the in and out at different times for people doing different things. But that could be sorted I bet. The worst they can say is no. On second thought, we have more ridazz than rooms.
nah, roadblock, ive never even been to vegas (or san diego for that matter) but i remember reading about that happening to you and i think dingo after the first vegas trip. i looked at the hotel on google earth and this place is swank! like 4 star and shit right on the water.
Wait, what about trying to work something out with the parking concession. I bet it's Ace parking there. Maybe we could grab a spot somewhere in the garage and everyone parks there. I don't know if there is a 24hr attendant; but you could slip him a buck or two each and I bet you'd be fine. That way it's out of view of the rest of the guests, so management wouldn't be upset. Dunno, just thinkin. I don't know too many peeps near the hotel, who might have bike space. I can try to find out though.
Ive stayed at one of those big hotels before, I think it was the Hyatt? It was just a few months ago. We didn't have problems taking our bikes to and from the room. It was never a big deal.
It helps to know where the "back" entrance and an alternative elevator is if there is a bunch of you.
after Vegas, after Portland, after San Fransisco, after San Diego last time and after Salton Sea..................these things have a way of working themselves out.. Don't worry kids, you are smart and resourceful. You will work out whatever needs to be taken care of as the needs arise. "Planning, smanning" it all works the way it does when it comes time to do your thing.
that means they'll be ready for you. and if they say NO, they'll have an excuse to kick you guys out... and and and... what sexy said, it'll work out fine. don't worry so much.
We could meet at the CVS parking lot, or at the corner of 30th and Upas(Barfoot bar)
http://www.bluefootsd.com
Ludichrist and I live just east of downtown in Golden Hill.
I figured I'd try to meet up with the peeps coming in on the trains and those staying downtown so we can do a ride up to the 5:30 meet spot.
If you are driving down and need to go straight to dinner, that's cool too.
@Dak
You're in Mission Valley right? If you hit your hotel and dump your stuff; you could roll to the Old Town trolley station which is pretty close.
Then take the trolley to downtown and roll with the rest of us.
Or not ; )
What time do you think you will be here?
my carpool is staying at one of the places at Hotel Circle, north of the FWY. I don't know when we're getting there. I have KatieK & Tommy's numbers. I'll call when we get there. I plan on visiting MIssion Hills Bike Shop, and... i don't know...
Cool,
you can grab my number out of my profile too.
I will apologize in advance for the paltry condition of Hotel Circle North.
Awful road for bikes.
Just remember, at the end of the after party, when y'all are wasted; you can get to the trolley and take it to Old Town. Your hotel isn't far from there.
I'm just sayin
okay im on the way to san diego but just realized i do not even know where i'm meeting yor riders. please call me i'll be in san diego and will meet up where the fuck ever in socal. 818 631 2035 is personal cell phone number. shit. please someone call.helahlpehelp/
We're getting hammered with some cold, rain right now.
I just rode to work and had to change into some dryness.
I'll be lucky if I don't catch hypothermia by the end of the night.
Temperatures in your neck of the woods should fare a little, better though.
If it's 50 degrees and blowing up here, it's always quite the opposite in San Diego.
