SPOKE CARDS

So few people ride with them yet so many rush to get them at rides and/or stoked to have one handed to them.
What's your take on them? Love them or hate them?
reply
I think they're great.
Spoke cards don't stay put in my spokes (they're not crossed horizontally), so I'm fat out of luck; I just carry them in my bag for now.

I like the spoke cards cause they are conversation pieces. Besides they also look cool on the bike.

Spoke cards are very important items that provide a cool souvenir to a ride, a memento from a good time. It's Art from someone, and yes cool to look at. I think all rides should have them, and a few years ago they always did. Bike rides with spokecards are different from all those 'other' rides like most spandex rides, AIDS lifecycle etc. They remind us that biking is a different kind of informal sport, and that there is a certain independence to it. I never put them in my wheels, I save them in a collection at home to look at when I'm old.

i always keep at least a few in my spokes, and the rest at home in a box.
When you see someone going by on a bike, it's a quick way to tell if they're a rider or a RIDA.

now we're getting somewhere......do you pick certain cards if they're your favorite ride? or had a good time on a certain ride?
Personally I like the Sins and Sprockets and Ride Arc rides the most so I always put their cards in. curious how others decide to display them or not.

Regarding spoke cards, i love them. it's a memory of a fantastic night and ride with some cool peeps. I also love the artistic creativity it takes to make those suckers up.

Probably some combination of liking the design, and an enjoyable or meaningful ride. Plus a semi-permanent Armed Librarians card.

Spoke cards are spoke cards.
Sometimes I forget to get them. They fall off sometimes. They get all dirty and mangled. It's all good. I love making them and cuting them together before a ride. It's like a ritual.
I just wish we had a picture saved for every one made. it should be a rule, for archive sake.

I only put second copies in my spokes. The first one always goes into the archive.
There is no way I will ever collect a comprehensive set, but anything sent to me will be cataloged and archived for future exhibitions and national press stories about our activities.
The archive will not be sold. It will probably be donated to the Getty or some place like that 20 years from now.
Please keep the cards you value, but if you have second copies or ones you don't care to keep, send them to
4921 Lemon Ave
Cypress 90630
You will get cool mailart in return.

The two biggest collections of anything I have are 1) My empty pharm bottles from my neighborhood collectives and 2) My spoke cards for the last couple of years from these rides. It took me a long time to actually put them on my bike because I do see them as art pieces but also as reminders of what fuckin great times I've had. I'd hate to see them ruined or lost (I've actually caught non-riders trying to remove them from my spokes. ) Just want to put out a big thanks to anyone who's ever done them! They mean a lot to me.

I love the spoke cards. I wish I can put them all on my bike. I was happy when I had to buy a new 32h front wheel. More room for cards!
Just like mr. rollers mentioned... (btw... I have your bday card... that baby picture which brightens up my day whenever I have to add air on my tires...) whenever I see any riders... I look for the spoke cards.... then the one cog in the rear. I also like the simplicity of one spoke card as well. I was sooooooo pissed when my Pizza Delivery to the Mafia card fell out!!!!
Oh and the 1st Muertos ride I lost too. Is it me... or is it that some cards now don't have directions to them?
I would have to agree... truly an art and very fond memories that go along with it.
