M.R. SEXIST

Thread started by

M.R. IS A SEXIST MALE DOMINATED WEBSITE. Not only is it dominated by a bunch of jerks who love to barf up nonsense but its also dominated by people who never even ride their bike.
Isn't their a way to make it easier to find rides on this thing?
Isn't their a way to make the site more friendly to people who actually ride their bike and don't have hours to sift through 1000's of posts that are all garbage just to figure out what rides are going on?

And look to the >>>>>> Right.

also isn't their a way to lengthen the recent forum on the main page so your forum doesn't go bye bye in ten minutes?
same thing with the upcoming rides?
cant you make the column twice as long?

I've gotta agree with this... Not the Sexist part, but the clutter thread spam part. Although, it's not all that bad, there is a lot noise, but nothing an extra click and some internet patience wouldn't solve.
In fact, just by posting my feelings on the matter, I'm sure that this thread will now be the target of some all-too-witty HTML 1337 that will think it's funny to "ironically" post something most likely in the fashion a cat would talk in: "I can haz spam now?" Sure 'nuff followed by a picture of the delicious canned meat product and dozens of bandwagoneers trying to kill the rest of their mundane day at work.
Okay, back to my mundane day at work.

No rally needed. Roadblock is a rad dude, who definitely listens to people. He does however feel that MR is organic, and should evolve and change on it's own, without much intervention.

Threads that get burried are burried for a reason; it's very Darwin. Bump your thread if you want it to live. If it's not worth your time to bump, then it's certainly not worth everyone elses' time to read.
If you want a site that's all about pacino, get a wordpress blog.

what if we had different sections and each section can have its own threads.
like have a thread for bike repair questions, bike rides, routes, general discussion, etc.
like for the threads:
sarah palin
everybody makeout
random riders bdays
shazam
i mean, stuff like that should in some general discussions section, right?
personally, i dont give a shit about any of this bc i spend most of my time on here at work out of boredom, but when i have like bike trouble shooting question or something about routes to whatever destination, it'd be nice to get to it quickly or whatever.

M.R. is yes best suited at this moment for people who sit at their computers all day.
Its not well suited for people who are out and about and want to check in on occasion.
Hence why the people who post all the time defend the current method.

I agree with the cluttered threads. Perhaps MR should start sinking some threads.
HOWEVER, sexist? Really? What on earth was said to you that got your panty hose in a tangle?
Anatomically, men are better fit for physical activity. Naturally, there are more men on this site. That is why professional cycling has men and women division. Face it, men are superior. They have greater capacity for strength.
The ratio is not terribly uneven on here. Try being a girl on LAFixed. I have never seen any left field comments thrown around here because someone is a girl. Hey ladiezzz why don't you ride your little bikes over to the kitchen and make me a sammmich! Obviously, I jest. Sort of. I kind of do want a sandwhich.

Sorry, but you sound like a dick, so expect to be treated like one. Your accusation of sexism goes completely unsupported, and then you call everyone jerks who don't ride their bikes. So, fuck you. We all ride. And yeah, if you're an idiot people are gonna call you out. That doesn't make them a jerk.
Then your post goes on with your so-called suggestions... but by then nobody likes you. It's not that your criticism won't be taken because you didn't offer any money... (Where did you come up with that?) It's because you're clearly a petulant ass.

"Anatomically, men are better fit for physical activity."
Except for, among other things, extreme endurance, where women may have a physical advantage.
For instance, check out kick-ass German mom Astrid Benohr, record holder of the Deca Ironman. (Because if you're really hardcore, the regular Ironman triathlon just isn't enough, you have to multiply the distances by 10.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrid_Ben%C3%B6hr
Her 1997 world record in the quintuple ironman (about 74 hours for some 19 km swimming, 900 km bicycling, 210 km running) is more than 2 hours less than the men's world record; her 1999 world record in the deca (tenfold) ironman (about 187 hours for 38 km swimming, 1800 km bicycling, 420 km running) is about 5 hours less than the men's world record. In this event, her total time of 187 hours included some 8.5 hours of sleep. However, this record remains unofficial because it was not verified by the sport's administrative body, the International Ultra Triathlon Association.
She also holds the women's world records in the double, triple and quadruple ironman. In 2001, at age 44, she became world champion in the triple ironman, finishing before the male world champion. She has also won women's world championships in the double, quintuple and deca ironman.
She began to run in her twenties, to aid her efforts to stop smoking. She started collecting ironman titles in 1987, working without a coach to this day. She is a housewife and has three children, born in 1980, 1981 and 1985.

@Deb
I was sort of joking. I am not saying there aren't ladies out there who can kick a guys butt. Not by any means. I often get pegged as the anti-feminist. I am not trying to say we should not be equal in rights. I simply believe different anatomy, different strengths, thus shaping different roles in society. When it comes to brute strength, average guy vs. average gal, my money will be on the guy.
Dexterity, on the other hand, I think we have mastered.

While riding my bicycle across the country this summer I was able to interact with bicyclists from many large American cities: PHX, Chicago, Kansas City, St. Loius, Detriot, Cincinnati, Lexington, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, NYC, Boston... when I would describe some of the rides to people they would often times respond that they had the same kind of thing in their city. And I believe that the same thing happening here in LA is happening all across the country right now.
MR and Bikeboom are the two distinguishing elements. These two websites are a hub for the flourishing two wheel revolution going on here in LA. We are provided the free ability ineract with anyone that wants to take part. You have to admit that is nice. How good is it to be able to see every bike ride for every day into 2009! It's always amazing to have more! Build another site where we all can play more. MORE MORE MORE!!

Male dominated does not equate sexist. The only sexist thing on MR, which btw "is" not MR, was GOGA. And that was restrictive against males.
Granted, lots of men congregated equate sexist behavior. For that, go complain elsewhere.
The fact that forum posts are sinking faster than in the past is a result of a lively, popular website. That is a good thing. And the same goes for the ride listings. Where there was once one or two rides posted a day at most, now there are 5 to 7.
MR is alive and well. And so is sexism in general.
