Viva Las Vegas 2
The first time was awesome and that was only 60 of us.
I think I might rock my socks off when we show up by the hundreds.
We're doin it again, but this time with much better planning, much more notice and much more democracy. Let's get some dialog happenin' in this thread about how people want it to go down. WHEN? WHERE? HOW? HUH? BEER? BEEF?

Dak and Sexy, you guys had some ideas for dates, what were they?
Other misc. ideas that have happened so far.
- If we can get enough people to commit, maybe we can get a sweet group rate at one of the hotels.
- Everyone chips in a couple of bucks and we rent a Ryder truck to transport the bikes from LA to LV. Personal transportation would be left up to everyone on an individual basis.
- Get enough people to commit and rent a BUS!! You can fit everyone's bike in the cargo section of a bus.
These are just ideas. I haven't checked into prices yet or anything. Hotel suggestions, Stratosphere and Sahara have some DAMN cheap room rates for most of the year.
Anyone have a Class B drivers license?

you don't need a class b lic to rent a stake/boxed truck as long as it doesn't have AIR brakes, I've rented them before and they are easy to drive.
a 20' stake bed cost $95 a day with .40 cents a mile
www.ur.com
a 56 passenger bus would run $1800 for two days one night
$2648 for three days two nights plus gratuity and for a room for the driver www.fastdeer.com
a 12 passenger van from a rental company would run $400 for the weekend.

Whatever class you need to be a driver of more than like 15 people or whatever. Class B right? If one of us had a license...that's all I was hopin' for.
Yeah, date comes first...how we're gonna get there...last.
I have no problem volunteering to drive a Ryder with a shit ton of bikes piled in the back...that way people could even fly if they wanted to.
I'm thinkin', rather than renting a bus of our own...we use one of those retired folks busline vegas adventure tours as our mobility platform...agree on the date and busline....then just do a mass booking, take it over.

Well, you're right.
People usually need at least a 3 day weekend for something like this.
And a 3 day weekend can be stretched to 4 by leaving after work on like Thursday.
Most hotels let you check in nearly a day early, so long as you're technically on the right day, and you're charming, you can check in at like 1am. It's like getting a free night. ; )

AVOID the big holiday weekends!!!
Wouldn't mid-week be better?
Sunday-Monday?
how many nights? days?
Just pick a day, see how many are interested, and their concerns (costs mainly). Then work from there. You can also count on some people getting themselves there, on their own.
if you can get an Idea of how many want to go as a group, it'll give us an idea of the transpo and housing.

man, you all talk a gang of shit, but nobody comes up with a date.
Three day weekends are nuts in Vegas, crowded and the rooms are expenesive. Who wants to go to vegas for three days anyways, (well I can only speak for myself. )
I purpose the third week of June, June 15 -17. Yes it is Sins and
Sprokets that Friday night. Why don't we make the big ride the Saturday night, for those that want or can only afford a night can make it out. That Saturday is usuallly an empty night in Los Angeles for bicycle events.
Maybe Sins and Sprockets want to have a ride in vegas that Friday. They seem like the type that would be into it.
Weekdays don't work for the majority of people, although it is cheaper. I found the rates a little cheaper for this weekend compared with others, at the cheaper hotels. Stadsphere and Saraha aren't so cheap on this third weekend of june. Alexis Park has rooms for $64 for that weekend, it is a non-gaming hotel off the strip, but is suppose to be super classy, and low profile for celebs.
We could do it the third week of July, but how hot is that going to be?
Start checking www.sidestep.com for rates and tell us what you think.

Ok, after some exhaustive searching...this is what I've found. This is for Friday, June 15 - Sunday, June 17.
DannyZ, the dates you suggested are neither a Friday or a Saturday, but I get the idea; the following rates are nearly identical to the July weekend you proposed.
Below is totals for the whole weekend, not per night.
$29 per person - Sahara - 6 people per room.
$24 per person - Casion Royale - 6 people per room
sexy had some suggestions that were off the strip or on Fremont St.....haven't checked those really, but they are even cheaper........does anyone care how far we are from the strip? We have bikes!!
Eric Hair05.31.07 - 1:46 pm
reply
it shouldn't matter how far u guys are from the strip. everything is riding distance. check the hotels/motels off to the east and west of the strip. And downtown LV isn't a bad idea either, it's totally riding distance to "the strip".
t.bone05.31.07 - 1:58 pm
reply
off srip is cool with me, but with those prices... it doesnt really even matter, as long as we ahve room to cram the bikes in with 6 in each room....
SO, let's pick a date..
so far our choices seem to be:
june 15-17th
Pros: soon, won't be quite as hot
cons: 420laharr can't make it, father's day weekend
last weekend in July
pros:
420laharr can make it
cons: not too soon, going to be hot as fuck, the longer we wait, more chance of people bailing
we could always do more than one.

Bicycle transport could be easy and less expensive than renting a big stakebed truck. A couple of pickemup trucks pulling rented trailers, or even go with rented club wagon type vans and pull trailers with them. You can get a lot of bikes in an open trailer.

I got a 20ft. flat bed car trailer. With some 2x4's for make shift rails and tie downs we should be able to get 40 bikes on it easy plus a few in the bed of truck. Just hate how much gas would be for the trip with my truck compared to my honda accord. I have a road trip 21-30 of june. Would need a little time to set up the trailer. I vote for mid to late july to set up/get the word out and organize the plans.
Let me if this works.

I can only do 1st & 2nd weekend of July.

We'll see anyways, I'll be at the 7-11 by 7.
Just to let you know, I may cut out early, I was at the last valley ridearc...and judging by the perceptions of the valley described in their current flyer, I'm not sure how long I can take this group of tourists. But it is a valley ride, so no caro needed to get there.

I see your calling this Las Vegas 2 ride,
I had an idea for a name, if you are open for consideration.
Call it the "Convention ride", since people go to las vegas for conventions.
I have let my cousins in Oakland and San Fransico know about it and San Diego already knows. I going to look into letting other areas know.
I think this could be real cool if we got people who can come from different parts on this ride
For your consideration, if you ignore this, no offence taken.

Lets make some choices on rooms, before the rates get even higher
saraha is $87 a night, it is a little off the beaten path from everything eles
Palace station off the strip, down the street from saraha by the freeway is $100, they have the courtyard rooms which will make it easier to get into with bikes. Nice place
tropicana is $124 in garden rooms
econlodge by Circus Circus on strip is $63
casino royale is $72 which is in the thick of it all
Terrible Herbs is off strip, by Hard Rock is $86 nice
Riveria is 84-144 depending on Room older hotel
stratsphere is 104-116 depending on Room
Alexis Park off strip went from 64 yesterday to 119 today
Imperial palace is 130
and it goes up from there
Downtown is considerable less expensive
with El Cortez Starting at $50
the majority of places our $60- $80
but downtown was so depressing last time I was in Vegas.
I think it worth it to stay somewhere that is nicer, but I understand that is not in everybody budget.
Lets make some decisions. The prices are going to just keep going up.
also sidestep choose these suite type places off the strip, they look pretty good from there video and pictures, but the prices make you go uummm. They have full kitchens, gym, laundry facilieties, so I think they cater to longer term transiants.
Emerald suites Tropican, it says a 1.4 miles from strip but looks closer then that One bedroom suites $67 max 4 people right behind
did have some bad reviews, said a train ran real close to the hotel and a little dirty.
Candlewood about a mile off strip, Paradise and Flamingo $73 for a room to $118 for a suite.
St Tropez 84 for twin rooms by UNLV.
Look at www.sidestep.com or whatever you check and give some opinions.
What you can afford. How many people you want to share a room with, etc.
I like the idea of pool to lounge around on Saturday, that is if we get,,,oooohhhh yeah,, sleep by the pool, we don't get home til the Suns up in Los Angeles, but Vegas, we can sleep by the pool, if we ever get in.
sexy06.6.07 - 10:20 pm

The strip is where it's at. I say in the middle price range and closer too or on the strip.
#1 Casino royale is $72 which is in the thick of it all.
#2 Palace station off the strip, down the street from saraha by the freeway is $100, they have the courtyard rooms which will make it easier to get into with bikes. Nice place
#3 Terrible Herbs is off strip, by Hard Rock is $86 nice.
Econlodge by Circus Circus on strip is $63. The name speaks for itself.
Saraha is $87 a night, it is a little off the beaten path from everything eles. Might be too much off the beaten path.
Tropicana is $124 in garden rooms. Might be too much hotel for us.
Pedal Power06.7.07 - 12:18 am

Looks like Casino Royal is looking most attractive.
I don't think it has a pool. They are pretty strict about the 21 and over rule for guest. There is harrahs or imperial palace next door, for those that want a pool.

For sure, thanks Sexy for kickin us in the butt.
I can drive & take 4 passengers max.
I'm willing to book a room as soon as we can decide where we're staying. 4-6 in a room is cool with me.
I agree about Sexy's assessment of Downtown; depressing.
#1 - Casino Royale
#2 - Sahara
Either of the above is ok with me, but I've never stayed at Casino Royale so I can't vouch for it's bike friendly layout. Sahara is good for the bikes AND they have bigger parking, for the likes of a trailer.
And they have a pool? Right? To satisfy the tanning divas.

Sahara would mean more biking...to get to the strip. BONUS!!

Looks like Sahara for me, unless there's some off-strip gems.

motel 6 is $76 a night (before taxxes) one (1) occupant for two (2) FULL beds... it says it's more expensive if you put "3 occupants"... are they mean about hiding people in the room? it's just kinda next to tropicana... and since it's motel 6 standard fare style you can just roll yr bikes into the room. would be a great starting point for much of anything since it's at one end of the strippp.
let's just sleep in our cars and use the swimming pool showers!!!

Taking into consideration different things. Is it best that we are all together at one hotel? Yes we will be together, we can have sleep rooms, and party rooms depending on what is going at the moment.
How will are presences fare with the security of the hotel? should we call and give them heads up on what we are doing so they won't be so freaked out when we show up. Is it best to have so many to a room going in and out, all at one hotel especially those that are going to be staying 6 to a room. Or should we be spread out amongst different areas and then people can visit each others hotel. Pools, no pools, hanging out parting in the day on Saturday when those that can't sleep can come to a different room.
Casino Royal seems like the best choice, close to the strip, but how much attention will bring ourselves their. They are strict about being over 21, so they are going to take notice of us. They have a parking lot between the casino and the hotel(In the back of the property)
and,there is security working it.
Saraha is kinda out there by itself. Didn't like it last time I stayed there, but we could be avoiding a headache of security.
You asked about the off strip hotels. I haven't stayed at Terribles (a block from the strip, on Flamingo) my friend(who I have gone to Vegas with many times- 24" if you have seem him, he has only been out a couple of times to rides, big drunk blonde aryan looking guy) has, and said it is a great place to stay. If driving you can go into the back of the Imperial Palace parking lot and park and your on the strip. He said of all the places that I mentioned to him and all things considered, he thought Terribles might be best. It has motel style rooms (which are cheaper), which would bring less attention to our coming and going. We most likely aren't going to ride through there valvet, or be raising hell in that area (better not to shit where your going to sleep rational) It just built a tower, so it a newer, nicer hotel.
It is the same quality rooms as Saraha or Casino royal, just newer.
It has a pool, casino royal doesn't, saraha is again a big property and harder to get to the pool and in and out.
As I said, we might want to call the hotel we decided we are going to stay at and let them know we are coming for a ride, like its some big thing, with an feel of legitimate, so they don't worry about all the bikes. That may or may not be a good idea. They may 'thats fine", no problem, or they may say, we are not hurting for business , don't need that here.
After reading this through before posting.
I have a thought, why don't we split it between Terribles$87, (I would like to stay there) and either Casino Royale$79 and/or $89Saraha.
That way we can meet at one and then ride, we won't be so many to one hotel. Don't want to be fighting our host while we are there.
Those are that are going to pile 6 to a room should probably stay at the saraha, as not to draw to much attention to themselves.

Do hotels, at which your not a guest, allow you to use their pool during the day?
Eric Hair06.7.07 - 1:47 pm

not sure if they "allow" it. but im sure we can sneak into some. i stayed at Stratosphere and they didn't check my key card there. im sure there will be other places that don't check as well.

If your going to sleep in your car, which I don't suggest. I think Saraha would be good. Pool is not to secure, parking structure. so the car will stay cooler.
Remember most hotels have a 24 hr cancellation policy, I'm going to check and book with a few as soon as we decide on what we are doing, I can cancell what I don't want, or pass it on to those that are going to wait til the last minute. Terribles and Sarah and/or Casino Royale.
If you are sleeping on the floor, think about bringing with you something that will make your sleep more comfortable for you. Blankets, pillows or mats to sleep on. You might not need it, but I perfer comfort.
To answer the question, about pools. No, it is for guest only. Some are more strict then others. Last time I was there I went to Hooters and hung out there all day, it can be done, as long as they are not checking keys, at the pool entrance. I read an article about how locals try to get past security at the hot spot pools Hard Rock, Palm, Rio. They have day party at the pools sometimes, for $30 admission. The local think, it is there right to uses them when they feel. The hotels feel different. The local are always tring to get in for fee.

Two in the room is one thing six bicycle is another. Don't worry, there is ways to get in through the sides, without going through the front. You can always lock them to poles and whatever we lock them to.
I would encourage four to a room as oppose to six, but you all do what you want
172.22 for two nights between four is 43.05 total

172.22 between six = $29 for the weekend. Lodging only,
that is saving $14 to sleep on the floor. You all know what is right for you.
Book your rooms kids, you can always cancel if you can't make it.
If you are on the budget, consider buying your beer here in LA, it was cheaper here in the drugstores then Vegas, last time I went.

yeah I posted my findings several posts up. She quoted a group rate of $74 per room. I was not able to give her an exact room count so I said 10-20 rooms. This is a $5 discount I believe. we would have to call to have this group rate set up and then when people reserved their rooms they would say they are part of this group or something like that. I'm a bit of a social slug and not very good at these things.
I went ahead and reserved a room today. If we want to set up this group discount we would have to call michelle between 7-3.

this is just a warning. Today I received a call from Bank of America fraud services. Someone used my credit card today at Target in San Dimas. They ran up over $400 worth of stuff. The reason I'm putting this warning here is because I have only used this card twice in the past month. Once at Best Buy last week and then to reserve my room at Terribles yesterday. San Dimas is not exactly close to Vegas so chances are it is not some worker at the casino. The weird thing is that the person used my card at Target today and the card is still sitting in my wallet. I guess it's also likely that those stupid blank checks the credit card companies send could have made it to one of my neighbors mailbox and that's what was used at Target.
Something red flagged on this transaction and I'm thankful of that otherwise I may not have noticed until the bill came.
Just a warning.

First, is there still room--hotel room/bike room
Also, just to let you know, Crespin and I stayed at Terrible's a while ago...and it lived up to it's name and more. A room that smelled like someone or something had died....uncomfortable bed, a buffet that I wouldn't even want to get near. Maybe one of the worst hotels I'd ever stayed in.

I'm now bringing better then the potpourri, I'm bring the positive ion/ozone producing, Ecoquest living air XL-15C, It will kill any bad odors the room has. I have two, if anyone wants to borrow one for the trip and return it to my house. They are heavy. Too heavy to carry by bicycle.

I just read a gang of reviews on Terrible's hotel.
90% positive, 10% horrible.
People went back and fourth on the service.
It sounds as if it might be a great place to stay if you like to smoke.
I reserved for the older garden rooms, but from the reviews, the tower might sound like the place to stay, since it is newer.
Lot of great reviews and them some horror stories.
I would read the reviews, and tell us what you think.
I don't know for sure, only suggested it off of a friend who has stayed there.

I really don't care about the rooms as long as there aren't crackheads IN there when I check in.
I've stayed in 5 star hotels in Santa Monica and on Madison Ave in NYC....I've also slept on sidewalks, in parks, and other public places. I've had the best and worst, as long as there's a roof over my head, I'd say that that's usually a bonus.

Everyone is staying at the, decidedly FABULOUS, ion smokin crack zone of Terrible's on Paradise. Seriously, it sounds great. Book a room and book your friends.
To add to the creature comforts of Sexy's ionizers, I will be bringing a shit ton of Noahs bagels, a toaster and maybe someone can bring creamcheese... Trust me, it's awesome.

So about 11 people from San Diego are driving up. Most will be staying on the strip at Polo Towers. It's a timeshare place that I got a good deal threw a friend that works their. We got two suites. Eachsuite has 2 bedrooms and a kitchen! We will have some floor space if somebody needs a place to crash. We will only be staying one night(leave sometime on Saturday) so hopefully the main ride is Friday night!

The weather looks like it is going to be brutal during the day.
When are you driving there? What time of the day? How will your car handle the heat, with the passengers and the cargo? Give this some thought.
The rooms at terrible are $64 and $75 for Thursday. Pedal Power, would it be better to go up on Thursday night. That way we can sleep friday away and be ready for the evening. They are cheaper at other places, but remember the loading and unloading of the bikes. BBD's sound system. I know your truck set up, but one of my friends who is skinny and may/would (this is up to you) be sitting in the back with me, might need a ride. Let me know. I dont know about everyone else, but I think we still have a lot of details to work out for this trip.
Like:
-departure time from LA
-caravaning vs. meeting up in LV
-finalizing and confirming spaces in cars/rooms
-return time to LA on sunday
-drivers: as sexy said, make sure your car is in good working order BEFORE you leave. it'd be pretty shitty to find out you needed your oil changed/more water after your shit breaks down in the middle of nowhere.
I recommend taking care of these things now, so that when the unforseen things begin happening (and they will) we will be able to handle them without incident.
This is all just a thought, of course.

From what I understand, unless you close to the tourist district, you don't ride your bike into work. The majority of residences living in Las Vegas live in the outlaying suburbs and don't hang around the tourist district. If you went out into the suburbs, you might see a different picture.

A Vegas trip sounds good soon. It is going to get hot, quickly. I lived in Vegas for 10 years and biking was not something you would see commonly. Only time you would see bikers on a common basis is while riding up to and through Red Rock Canyon (Which is a great ride).
Most of us out there ride bmx and spend the majority of out time in the desert building dirt vert jumps. Hitting the dirt trails through Red Rock was also a favorite past time.
The roads out there are great to ride on though. They have large lanes with large emergency lanes for us to ride in. The roads are also better maintained than here in LA.
If there is a Vegas trip in the works, I have a few good routes we can take. A few scenic and a few touristy hittin the strip type of rides.
