Big Bike Dan's Trailer

Dan's trailer was falling apart on Sunday at the SpokeNDissent ride.
I went out and bought him a new trailer today.
If any of you feel the need to be generous and pitch in for it, I'll be collecting money from you this weekend.
The other idea, which we will keep a surprise and not memtion on this site, has not happened. I talked with some other folks, who said they may be able to help get the project together.
If that happens, Dan got his eye on a new sound system that will be far more reaching (meaning you can hear it better). We can use the money from the above mentioned fund raising idea, for a new sound system. The system he wants to get, is not cheap, but I do think it is possilbe that we can raise the money.

If you all don't know the story. The sound system that Dan carries around is community donated, Dan like the fact that it is a community system ( he guards like he flipped burgers for $2 an hours to earn it) because he treasures it, and being able to bring the sounds for everyone.
LongBeach Alan donated the orignal Trailer, that he secured from Freecycle, he also donated a scooter battery for him.
Gern is responsible for the Anchor (the actual sound system that is on the trailer) this is the most imporant and expensive item on the trailer.
Sexy got him a sccoter battery also, just so it would be heavier when he carry the load around.
Chicken Leather's name got him some screws for the xlr.
Thinkpeace got him the trailerhitches, that according to Dan is the weakest link in the trailer. It is now strong enough to carry 2 tons,
(no kiddin, I don't know what the trailer can hold, but the hitch can carry 2 tons)
The Ipod is his own. The other related items, I don't know where it comes from
if I forgot anybody, feel free to share it on this thread
Another fine example of community coming together for the common good.

I didn't even see this thread....I would have thrown in some money...what about the tunes? Do the tunes need a better systerm?

The system is good, but Dan has some grandious plan for a new system. I got a secret plan to raise some more money for him. If and when it happens there will might be enough for it, but for now it's all good.
If anybody works somewhere (like a major studio) where they are upgrade equipment and our getting rid of anchors or wireless mics, let it be known. They could be used for other people who want to carry sound systems arounds.
I got a friend who works at CBS fixing up and their audio equipnment. He thinks they have anchors, laying around all over, but he's got a little brain damage, so I don't know, if he will come through.
I forgot, Dans Ipod needs a new battery (although he does hook it up to the scooter battery, so it is constantly charging). Simple, well no, he has it under warranty and feels that if he opens it up himself, that it will void his warranty. True it will void it, but I just need to show him how easy it is to open up an ipod and change the battery.
I think the apple store in which he has the warranty charges some ridiculous price of $89-120 to change it. I know you can buy them for under $10, I just got to show him with my own Ipod how simple it is to change the battery. The store would probably never know.

Dans new trailer is already showing some signs of stress where they put together two piece of aluminum., right by the dropouts for the two wheels. Why they choose to design it in two pieces is beyond me. We where talking, and thought that it might be good to reenforce it, before it possibly breaks.
Does anyone know how to braise or weld, understand structural engineering, and would be willing to reinforce it, if necessary.

Also his trailer tail lights keep beaking off, he went through a few already, so make time you see the trailer, take a look and see if you can come up with something that, may work better then the usual tail light setup.

I've been noticing this too for the last month or so. I can't imagine why they would have that frame made of two pieces and jointed at that point too. The only reason I could think to do it this way so the trailer fails sooner and there by they can sell you another one! It doesn't help that the PA is hanging off the back end either. Most of the weight needs to be between the two wheels. Also it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a piece of tubing slip around this joint either. It could be brazed on but someone needs to know what they are doing cause it's thin wall tubing.
The lights would help if there were some kind of housing for them imho.
