I HEART Big Bike Dan!!
I have a great BBD story that shows he is one solid dude and down for the cause. one night BBD had my back BIGTIME as I whoop ass on some freaktard motorcycling moron at fatburger who claimed he had a gun and proceeded to kick my food off the table when I told him to get out of my face. BBD stood by and made sure nothing ill went down... well that is except for dudes face getting socked up and bloodied right quick by my fist!! it was kinda scary for a minute I wasnt sure if I was going to get shot or maced and people werent sticking around to find out, but BBD held his ground and made sure that if dude actually did have a gun he would be in a whole other world of mess. Thanks for lookin out for me that night Big Bike and thanks for leading all the rides and being an all around cool headed guy.

BBD is the man! His presence at rides has such an effect. Will never forget the dance party at the gazebo In Culver City, and man hauling that sound system all the way to the Observatory with the Hooligans, incredible.

BBD never ceases to amaze me. Sometimes his songs have the most uncanny timing.
Like the time we were at 7/11 and these 2 super drunk girls were flirting with Roadbloc. Before you know it BBD's system on autopilot is blasting "Too Drunk to Fuck" by the Dead Kennidies.
There so many magical moments, planned and unplanned with BBD's music. It really is amazing.

That mofo never complains about pulling the noise. He's game to pull it any day, any time, you just tell him when and where! What amazes me is that he does this and there's others that are half his age and just pushing the bike and ends up dropping long before BBD does. For the amount of time and effort Dan puts into getting a play list together should earn him metal on that merit alone.
Oh yeah he's also a big TOBACCO pipe smoking mofo.

Relating to my first MR @ Ghostride the Strip II.
"As I was heading back down the strip towards my semi, I viewed taillights in the far distance. Ahead of the taillights, I noticed many rida's gathering around a big individual with a peculiar contraption in tow. This was my first encounter with the BBD sound system."

Man oh man...I will *never* forget the night BBD hauled his sound system all the way up to Griffith Observatory, unpaved roads and all, on that first Hooligans ride...and lifting that bike w/ the trailer over the top of a fence...amazing.

BBD....
the man neva sleeps...
BBD is the soundtrack to our gatherings. Great man with a great charming attitude. he does it for us i think we should throw a BBD ride..for his B-day..he'd go craze if we all got him like bike shop certificates. You know cuz keeping a hauling trailer up to par, knowing the extense of his riding can be expensive...

BBD- 'you've got a flat. Yo you've got a flat man. Richie, You've got a flat"
A few moments pass and BBD realizes the little girls bike fate was to spark-le. And also be thrown off a bride 3 times.

Big Bike Dan will live in my memories for an interview he did in a short film about the bicycling scene shot by Darryl Hannah.
He laid out his reasons for picking up the bicycle, and straight up said he wanted to make the world a better place. He wasn't joking, and after seeing his resolve, I know that more of us aren't joking about that stuff either.
It is easy to mock people who earnestly want to see things get a little bit better, so most people don't let on how they feel about things like that. He's the real deal, and really practices what so many of us preach.

BBD is one of my favorite riders. He can always be counted on to enhance everyone's riding experience as the Ridazz pacemaker and musical entertainer. His warm demeanor and large knowledge-base and wisdom on a lot of things inspire me and keep my motivations high to ride more. He is one of the people i look forward to seeing when I take to the streets.
Favorite picture: Seeing him passed out on the street late for 15yr SFCM. What a blast that trip was. Thank you for everything you do Dan!

AND he is just good people in my book.

My best BBD story happened on the UFO ride coming back from the Rosebowl. There was this one downhill with a quick left turn at the bottom. People were flying down this hill and panic braking at the bottom as the turn was hard to see.
Several of us were riding ahead of BBD when we saw the turn and realized we were going too fast for the turn. We tried slowing down but the music behind us was getting louder and louder. We were sure BBD would run us over if we stopped.
Some of us cut the turn really tight, one overshot the turn and some barely stopped before the guard rail. BBD took the turn very skillfully without slowing down. That man can handle that rig as well as the best bike handler. Yup, even better than Killa Kyle.

We had a 'moment' on a recent ride downtown. Time Warp came on his ipod (someone had provided the playlist) and he was saying that in all the time he's been doing this he's never played that song or any other Rocky Horror music before. Then we got on the subject of a RHPS themed ride where everyone could dress as one of the characters and we could play the whole soundtrack (plus other related tunes.).

BBD stays out late, he is elite. I think the first time I met him was the Sleaze Ride, we partied until 5. It was before I had met anyone, it's funny looking back at who was there. I had also just met Marcus, a week or so earlier, but that night I he almost got into a fight with a homeless guy, Dingo, and he said he wanted to punch PC in the face. No mention of fighting BBD though, that also happened to be the night Marcus hit a car and took me out of the walking business for four days.
Memories...

That's the most confusing story ever. Who almost got into a fight with a homeless guy, you or Marcus? Are you saying Dingo was the homeless guy? Who wanted to punch me in the face, Marcus or Dingo or the homeless guy? I was there and I don't even know what happened.

and one more thing. Dan was at my house, Wednesday, right before all of this Rida of the Week went up. We go to take care of an errand, I come home and all of this is up. Dan didn't have an internet connection and finally got to read all of this last night, he was really honored.

I rode his bike once, with the trailer and sound system hooked up. That shit is HEAVY. Have you ever noticed that you never hear BBD say "I'm tired" or "that hill's too steep"? The guy is hauling a trailer that probably weighs more than you do. His name is a bit of a misnomer: sure, his bike is big, but Dan is bigger. Big heart, big legs, and just a big muhfucker in general.
The first time I actually met the guy, I was a little starstruck. But it quickly becomes apparent when you talk to him how utterly guileless and down-to-earth he is. Selfless, too; he rarely missed a Spoke(n) Dissent ride and I know for a fact that he lends out that sound system of his to other activists for events both bikey and non-bikey.
Now, can somebody get Alec's questions to him?
