NEW RWNN THREAD. BITCHY WHINY SEXY didn't like waiting 20 seconds for the other thread to load.
This next RWNN will be 1 year of this rides' existence. Try to make it out. The route's done and it's 100% flat. It's the week before Thanksgiving.
There was a dude taking a ton of photos on this last ride and I spoke to him afterwards...please post the pics in the gallery or email them to me and i'll post them.

come out and find out!! it's all flat so there's no excuse. the playlist will be really kick ass, and the weather should be pre winter nice.... a lot of straight aways for a few miles at a time.....a large park with lots of room and it leaves at 9pm sharp. this month my friend's chain broke so we had to fix it quickly...otherwise we were ready at 9pm.

probably another 3 weeks before i get the cast off. then i dont know how long physical therapy will take. got my bike back really wasnt to damaged. you know anyone with a three wheeled bike?

i haven't tried to ride it. but i looks ok besides the chain coming off and handle bars being out of wack. i saw a chick riding a three wheeled bike the other day and thought i could use one to go on rides with. just cause it would be more stable with one hand. and it would be less likely to crash.

i think ive only missed 3. the second one when it was really cold and not to many peole showed up, i only made to the first stop but had to go back because a friend got a flat. so 3 and two thirds.

Ya, I remember last year's december ride. about 45 people showed up and about 15 completed the ride. i think the weather was in the mid to low 40's. we went to NELA..too many hills too that night considering the weather.
I'm considering doing december's ride as a 1 stop 16-18 mile ride instead of 2.
8 miles in....8 miles out...

That was a cold ride!
And the hills... I strictly remember reading the ride description and it saying it was 100% hill free or something to that effect. Great ride either way... just very cold.
And I've missed one or two I think. I gotta look through my spoke cards to verify.

This month only the RWNN is starting a bit west to cover new ground.
The start point is at a small park across from LA. High School at 4625 West Olympic Boulevard, 90017. 6 blocks East of Highland between Highland and Crenshaw. 2 stops. both at parks. byo whatever you eat or drink.
we ride at 9pm.

It was kind of strange. It was pouring while we were waiting for the ride to begin, but once we started rolling, it seemed to stop. It was a good ride but it was really good to have a hot shower when I got back.

I hate people that spread false rumors... the truth is RWNN is canceled forever.
I spoke with Barleye on April 16th and told him that its not his job to make sure kids have something to do on a friday night. We topped it off with some ice skating and intense thumb wrestling, which really sealed the impression that Los Angeles is filled with a bunch of spoiled brats that ruin everything they touch.
I offered him the opportunity to join my crusade to create the Life with No Future (i think he's debating it).
Overall, if you dont like something about a ride, and you want to ride -- do your own ride... thats what the website is for after all, right?

sorry for my confusion, i thought the website was to be inclusive and create group rides in general and build a bicycle community... I was expressing my discontent to the person stating that the RWNN was exclusive and that individuals were being invited through emails... whether the ride is on or not is not really my issue... my issue was about how rides are being promoted or lack of promotion...
and you assume that if this ride is on or not I do not ride... you assume that people do not have anything to do and this is the only thing they have to do on a friday night... the fact that people choose and want to join on this ride demonstrates how the RWNN has a following due to its routes, leaders, and perhaps a different atmosphere than other rides...
once again, my issue was not whether the ride is on or not... it was the rumor that only certain people were being invited...

The RWNN organizer has no more interest in doing this ride anymore because of the bullshit that has been happening on his ride. Mainly a LACK OF RESPECT.
If you want to bring back a ride just like RWNN then DO IT YOURSELF.
If you want to continue fun rides that people have put a lot of energy into happening then give those ride organizers some respect. Stop stealing, stop trashing, stop riding ahead, stop breaking rules of the road, and start paying attention to the ride leader's wishes.
I liked RWNN, it's a shame it will no longer be, just like Sin n Sprockets is no more. If you want Midnight Ridazz to fall apart, if you want the remaining good rides to end, then continue letting assholes shit all over these rides until nobody wants to do them anymore.

The ride with no brad? Ouch well this was a great ride , I loved this ride since my first one, great music, great ppl great dtla, but it is what it is, if the ride leader/leaders don't wanna continue , damn , u can't have someone do what he don't wanna do anymore. I'm proud to say I was on the last ride , and the ones before, and if that wass the LAST ride then so be it, I had fun and met great ppl, there are more rides.
I think the big problem is that ppl just see it ending with no proper goodbye. No?

I guess this is a good thing.
Too many unsupportive knuckleheads go and destroy it with their shit ways and ruin it for everyone.
Yeah, if they've got the nuts then they should start their own ride and see how long it lasts.
If if folds after the first couple of hours and they go home and cut themselves, then they too will know how it finally feels to be shit on.
Perhaps things should stay in the caves for a bit until the smoke of angsty teens on "speed-patrols" clears the air for good.
Then we could all truly, come out and play like the good days of not so long ago.
Until then, I'll continue resuming my gym-thang, riding for personal rec/business, and improving my sound, light, and airhorn systems for the dismay/shock/ defiance of local residents in this rural-turning-urban abode we all call the DESERT.

I don't know, I mean I just ride sober, follow the rules of the road and make sure I never insist on my right-of-way and I make sure that even if I have the right-of-way that I make eye contact with the motorists to confirm he is going to allow me to take it- in other words I'm a defensive driver/rider.
I have never been in a wreck or had any problems...but thats just me. And I'm very selective about which rides I go on, I don't go on rides where a bunch of kids take over and act stupid. Take care, GP

Nope I doubt it!!!! It’s a good thing, now barlame can go and retire at an old people’s home. As far as the ride with no name goes it was ehhhh. Nothing special. I went to it a few times. It was just so annoying having to read barlame’s thread the next day. He would always be bitching like a little girl about the young ppl. I was like wtf, I never saw anybody doing anything wrong just ppl riding trying to have a good time. If RWNM is going under by private invitation only, that’s ok too. This way barlame won’t have to stress out so much, that poor douche bag has enough white hairs as it is. Ppl move on better shit comes up. All that anyone is asking for is for riders to not jack rides, to not do stupid shit (tricks, skidding and swerving ridiculously) in the pack, and to not do things to get the rest of the community pissed at us (stealing, tagging). Really simple, you respect other riders and the community around us and the rides continue. If you don't respect other riders or the community then RIDES GET CANCELED. Don't you little shitheads get it? If you wanna do that shit go create some other ride, stop fucking up good rides like RWNN.

I set my bag down at the end of the ride, had to ride back to find a friend who got lost, found him,rode to his car, loaded our shit up, realized i left my bag at the finish, rode back and it was still there on the side walk...

I would rather tangle with cops and crazy drivers any day than ride through those hoods again. I can't believe how many people wanted to continue the ride after one of our own Ridazz got clubbed off his bike and we were chased off-scene by gunfire.
Does anyone know if that guy is going to be okay? I feel like a real loser for not trying to help but my self-preservation instinct wouldn't let me ride against the mess of people trying to get out of there.
Last week's 2nd Friday ride took us through some pretty scary parts of Inglewood (especially when the pack didn't stop to regroup for slower riders), RWNN took us to South Central... I thought Highland Park was the wakeup call. Is there a particular reason we're riding through these neighborhoods?

So, i wasnt knocked off my bike and i didnt knock out. Went to general hospital. Got 5 staples. Some navy field medics were there for some training so they used me for some teaching. Got to see all these cool little scans of my body and what not. It was like a scrubs episode, they were all really cool and joking around w me.
As for the guy who hit me. FUCK YOU.

Let's see, we can't go to Highland Park...we can't go south of Olympic...we can't go to East LA...we can't go to Inglewood...well, I guess it's up and down Hollywood Boulevard forever, eh folks? we've never had any problems riding through those streets even with the sins and sprockets rides going back a few years. It's real easy to say in hindsight that we should not have been there. Nobody said a word about getting out of there up until the baseball bat incident... the south los angeles streets have been some of the funnest streets to ride through in the past.
people having house parties waving to us a lot.. there are thugs everywhere in every part of the city. .. it may be a while before i take the ride through there again... volta, sorry to hear that you got hit with a bat ..hope you're okay.

hmmm, I thought it was great that the ride are going into different neighborhoods... It exposes MR to neighborhoods that probably have never seen a group ride.... when we arrived at the park there were families and kids playing out there... right before the fighting began as we went passed that block were everyone stopped, I saw families waving at us saying have a fun ride... I do believe we over stayed at the park but as someone mentioned, we confront those issues almost everywhere.... riders need to be able to handle those situation... I am glad you are doing well Volta, good reflexes in dodging the hit somewhat... be safe...

brad, i said this to you last night and i'll say it again, despite bad occurrences i still think it was an awesome route. even though i didn't get to experience it all (we lost you until we met up again at south park) these are neighborhoods we NEVER ride through and it's refreshing, fun and adventure, and exciting. i have to say that my favorite part of RWNN is the routes..... you always do something gritty and fun and new that i love to ride and explore..... these are the last streets i have yet to explore in this huge city and i'm definitely not gonna want to do it alone by myself.... we cant just let the thugs win and kick us out of their neighborhood.... this is fucking public space, all of it, we just need to find better ways to avoid these things. some people were talking shit to guys in the neighborhood because they think because they're in the group nothing will happen.... I think we may have stayed too long in Fred Roberts park, or at least kicked it in the wrong part. if we were further in the park it's more likely people from their houses on the street wouldn't have seen us as easily, because i'm pretty sure the people who jacked guys at that park with BB guns and hit volta in the head with the bat lived right by that corner...
and the birfday ride was fucking awesome too. those were not really sketchy neighborhoods.... you guys need to take a chill pill. these were probably the worst neighborhoods in la we rode through last night but i still dont think we should just avoid them.... riding is getting fucking boring in all the same neighborhoods and streets.

Brad you always do a kickass job with the routes (including this one). I love the fact we go into neighborhoods that we would never (and prob shouldn't) ride on our own, and cops seem to f' with less there. Yes our safety is in our numbers, but everyone needs to realize we are guests in their neighborhood and we need respect and keep aware of that fact. This does not for one instance excuses the actions of those wanabe bangers a-holes, but just realize where you are and stay heads up, keep within the group, don't wander. Bring what you need ON the ride, don't break into small groups to do store runs. If someone breaks down/flat get a FEW people to stay with till it's fixed.
RWNN still remains the best ride around and I totally appreciate the work you and others put into it.

i've been thinking about it and i think the problem had to do with where we stopped, the second stop, south park, was fine.... it's a huge park and nobody was there to bother us......and fred roberts park is not a safe place for a ride to stop at night. too small, in the center of the neighborhood as opposed to boulevard, we stopped right on the street, within feet of their houses, like asking the hoodsters "hey, we're right in front of you, try your best!"

I just don't want myself or my friends (or any rider or anyone for that matter) to be the next one to get jacked at a park, or swung on, or shot at. Am I being too melodramatic? But I think there needs to be more of a heads up when heading into certain areas, and just respect the neighborhoods. Ride through but don't act like its your stomping ground. Whether we like it or not, or whether we think its right or not, certain areas are sacred in skewed way to some. We have to respect that.... roll through, show love, and roll out.
Think about it. People struggle in certain areas on a daily basis. We can't just act like we can enter and hold down a party for an hour like we're "part" of the neighborhood (if you're making pit stops) -- its just bound to piss some off. We ridden in these parts for years, but you really can't crank mob anywhere you want, so to speak, even if you think you're bringing peace, friendship and the like.
I think MR has a great opportunity to reach these areas and bring positivity to sections of LA that are largely muddied in bad luck and failed systems. Hopefully we can all help turn things around for the kids in LA over the years... just keep believing.

im actually quite surprised this didn't happen on the last 2nd friday ride (thankfully it didn't) because the ride passed through a small part of the a neighborhood were there was consecutive shooting for the past 2 weeks and 2 murders happened the night before.
I dont think people should discontinue creating routes that pass through south central just because of small incidents. i ride through and in south central everyday and i have never encountered any major problems other than drivers and even that is rare. idk i guess luck of the draw. maybe ride leaders should really go into more depth of finding out what type of neighborhoods they are riding into (ie gang/crime activity) just my 2 cents

Change starts with us. On TT#100 I Kindly tapped aNd asked a rida to move to the side after a crash on the bike path (min you he wasn't even involved in the accident and people had already stopped to help). His response was defensive and jerky. He basically told me to fuck off.
If we treat people within our OWN community, why are we surprised when we meet hostility from outsiders (especially gangsters)? Volta, I don't mean to say you personally antagonized them. But on this forum we've read how people will take a ulock to a windshield, side mirror or straight up yell "fuck you" to people who ask where we're going, where we're from or why we're riding. What the SHIT IS THAT ATTITUDE? How do you think a person who already has a negative view of ridazz will react if a big ride stops across the street from their house?!
Don't be a dick and assume no body will fuck with you, cuz there's ALWAYS a bigger, badder and stronger asshole out there.

Barleye I think your ride is VERY important. So many kids from the (real) eastside and south side come out for your ride and get a chance to have some fun on this concrete playground that normally is on lockdown after dark.
that being said I saw some very unwise shit happen that night starting with the loud behaviour and music in the small park right across the street from the residential houses. People banging loudly on the b-ball rim or listening to old punk jams on blast while fun, is fuckin irritating to a family or group of gangbangers living on the block. as always some people don't realize the seriousness of the situation because they just have never been down in truly hostile areas.
The ride should probably continue to roll through those areas but maybe find a better location to stop or perhaps just stop shorter....
finally, I saw the entire incident with the bat go down. We rolled through the block, it was dark and a group of gangsters were walking along with us taunting people and trying to get a reaction. They were looking for trouble. I'd say 99% of the ridazz were just moving along and WISELY ignoring the taunts. BUT there is always going to be someone who doesn't understand the law of the street and will talk back. Unfortunately that person was the guy who got hit over the head. Volta? Granted, you didn't say anything particulary inflamatory but you did mouth off or make a comment that gave that gangster the motivation to grab a bat and run up to you and club you with it. I'm NOT blaming you so much as pointing out that in these situations EVERYONE needs to shut their mouths and just move on. Very easily someone could have been stabbed or killed that night. Seen it before and I'm sure not everyone will get the message and we'll see it again. I would just hate to see a situation in which someone mouths off to the wrong gangster and ANOTHER rida who was keeping their trap shut gets it.
As it was, what these gangsters don't realize is that WE are not a gang and when they act violently towards us the cops will be called and their world gets turned upside down by the cops.
I'm just so glad that no one was killed and I HOPE that we all learn from this incident. Respect the neighborhoods we ride in is one of the fundamental Rulezz of the ride. That means turn the music down and do NOT mouth off to locals.
On a GENERAL note: A few times on that ride and other rides I would hear some locals (no matter where we ride) yell out asking what we were doing in a curious way. Whenever I get a chance I just simply tell them "we're riding for fun grab your bikes lets go! " it's 100000% better and more inviting than when I hear some idiot (not referring to you Volta) in our group yell something snarky back and immediately put that curious local on the defensive.
I have little faith that this message will get out to everyone that comes on these rides but I wish that most people would just find it in themselves to hold back the snarky comments and put out the loving inviting comments and put these group rides in a better light. I know a lot of us are cynical and grew up in negative snark filled lives, but if you just get your soul cleared up and find a positive way to invite people instead of diss them, it will help our cause so much.

One time on a ride there was this older Italian woman standing by here car with her keys in her hand. She was smiling with joy in her eyes as all of the bikes rolled past and she started clapping and said "Bellissimo!".
I heard a guy shout back to her "Get a bike lady!" :(

Besides all of the commotion of last night i counted more than +20 women on the ride. Not many rides bring out the ladies. i hope that what happened doesn't scare away the ladies.

the next RWNN is 6/18/10 and the farthest South we're going is in the USC area. Thug free zone. Some of the route will be in the Historic West Adams District as well. Big wide open residential streets.

Check it out.....I'm switching up a few things this month. The RWNN always has 2 stops and it's important to note that the riding portion between the 1st and 2nd stops has a lot of turns close to each other...some are turn, ride 1 block, turn, ride one block and another turn.

I'll be leading the ride along with the music trailer being right near me. Please stay behind us.
I'm limiting the stops to 20 minutes....25 TOPS....There are no liquor stops so bring whatever you drink or eat on the ride. try to stay to the right of the road and leave a lane open for cars if possible. This is standard for any ride and just good common sense.
Try to meet new people...turn to the person on your right or left and say hi... it's not too hard to say..."hey, what's up...i'm ______. what's your name?"
ok...that's it for now...the ride starts at 9pm.

it was a nice ride last night. I really liked the route in particular. The second half of the ride was most of the black dahlia ride through the west adams district. Xray even behaved himself. I don't know about the rest of you but i really dug doing the shorter stops. It keeps us under the radar. Anyhow, thanks for coming out.

Louis and I are gonna complete the route this week for next week's ride. Definitely Lincoln Heights so far with possibly the Northern edges of East L.A..... Lots of Residential streets and a bit of Industrial. Last month the (2) 20 minute stops worked great....We're gonna do it again...Come on out....

The route's set for the ride in 2 days. Its borders are King Blvd, Hoover, Avenue 20, and Central. Don't talk shit to cholos, wave at people on their front porches, say hello to the riders on your left and right, and have a good time on the ride. It leaves at 9pm or very close to that..

That stop at St. Vincent's Court was amazing. The restaurant owner from Tulip Cafe came out with pitchers of ice water and passed cups around. I had no idea this little "other world" even existed.

This Friday's RWNN meets at 3100 Airport Avenue Santa Monica, California 90405. Google the address. It's on Airport, between Bundy/Centinela and Walgrove AND between Venice and Ocean Park. There's an Airplane in the parking lot overhanging a grassy area. Plenty of parking on Bundy at the top of the street and I'm assuming Walgrove at the bottom. I wouldn't risk parking at any of the Hangars there...you'll probably get towed.
