Hey y'all... I see that someone from the LAPD posted up a ride on the calendar. It's called the Ride to Arrest Cancer. $25 registration on the 13th of March.
I'm in. Who wants to join me? Last time I rode with Ridazz to the Randy Simmons memorial ride and it was a great experience. We got to see Motorcycle cops yell at cops for not staying to the right. haha. No really though, I think the more we connect with our friends in Law enforcement the better... The more we show our faces and bridge the gap with the LAPD the more it will humanize not only them to us but us to them and we can all get along better in the streets.
don't make me be the only one in a Midnight Ridazz vest!
Anyone who rolls with me to this will get a FREE Midnight Ridazz logo print on their shirt at Artcycle later that day.

Good question. Only you will know the answer! I say dress how you feel comfortable. I'm not changing a thing. Except I might ride in my TMR jersey that I love so much!
On this day it's not about how we look. It is a cancer ride so dedicate it to someone you know who is affected.

Marijuana helps a lot of people suffering with cancer. There should be no problem wearing a shirt supporting it.

You will wear your vest, as will I.
If they want to ask questions I will rant for 35 minutes about cancer and make them feel like dicks. MJ is medicine for some.
Anyone who wants to rock a support patch for my friend and neighbor who passed away in December from cancer is MORE THAN WELCOME. It would make his family happy. I will make free patches for anyone that asks.
He died from the same form of cancer I currently have, and he left behind 3 kids and a wife.
I ride for him.

Rebellion?
There is no law against wearing my vest, and it does not hurt or offend anyone by it being there.
I have to disagree with the rebellious mindset you speak of. Medical Marijuana saved my life. Medical MJ helped me with cancer when I was younger. Medical mj helps me with my cancer today.
Medical MJ is about to make my feel less pain from my ailments right now. It is my medicine, as it is for SO MANY other cancer patients.
I was simply telling the youngster that he needs not fear being punished for wearing an item of clothing with a pot leaf on it.
Civil rights. We worked hard for them.
Don't go pissing them away like 90% of Americans currently are. Know your rights.

@TheDude what ride time is saying is why project a negative scenario onto the relationship with the cops? there's nothing to anticipate... you dont know what will happen in fact there will be tons of civilians on this ride too and no one is going to care about us. just roll with it. I guarantee they wont give you ANY shit if you wear a mom ridaz vest.... but if you start arguments and try to be righteous you will in effect be raining on my ridazz parade. I want all positivity no negative bs... we dont like it when the LAPD brings negativity to our parade, so lets start the party and go to their parade and be cool and bring positivity and love.

That's my point exactly. Be yourself.
I would never go and start shit. Especially if they are a cop, ESPECIALLY at a cancer event. Never.
My whole point is that we should not have to fear persecution for wearing an article of clothing, and if anyone wishes to infringe on that, be it man, woman, or police officer, I will fight for my rights in a polite and well informed manner.

The funny thing is when i'm on rides and I do talk to cops the first thing they ask is this a Midnightridazz ride. They don't ask is this a MOM ridaz ride or RWNN ride they only know Midnightridazz so why do we want to give them a negative view of the Midnightridazz.

Get it straight people. Read my words again. I am simply standing up for the right to wear the shirt of my choice. Not picking a fight, not starting shit.
If someone wants to give me crap about my vest, I simply tell them not to judge me. Cannabis IS my medication. Cannabis has and is making my quality of life ten million thousand percent better.
If a cop wants to call me out for wearing a pot leaf on my shirt, I will gladly show him my doctors letters from my oncologists, my MMJ recommendation letter, and CT scans showing tumors in my body.
I will calmly and politely explain that many people use cannabis as a form of pain relief and medication. Perhaps taking a moment to explain why to works so well for so many would be nice also.
I will then explain to said officer that i do not take it lightly when my rights are infringed upon, and that I do not appreciate being harassed.
This VERY situation happened to me riding solo down Valley Blvd in Alhambra.
Cops pull me over and ask if they can search me. I ask why, and they respond because of the leaf on my back they think I have weed on me. I fuss and fight in a polite and well informed manner for my rights and get left unsearchable and not harassed.
How is this negative? I have always been and always will be polite to police. I have no reason not to be polite, and plenty of reasons to be polite.

You don't see it from where you are standing but this is more of a big picture issue. Should you be able to display pot leaves and so forth? Sure, this is America. And you could make a case that you would only argue your point in a calm respectful tone. However, from where the LAPD is standing, by you showing up with a pot leaf you are bringing them a message. Like it or not it will be seen as provacative so tread lightly because the big picture is that this is us working for a good relationship. You have every right to wear what you want They have every obligation to accept you, but regardless, it is going to put at minimum a grain of tension into a place that doesn't need it - a cancer ride where people will be thinking about their loved ones. Right or wrong your good message could be taken rhe wrong way.... It's just something to be mindful of. It's a time and place issue. It's not the time
and place to argue you and the other person will both lose but you and the Ridazz will lose more at this ride. If someone gives you shit, just be the bigger man and ignore it.

I am definitely down for the 50 mile route (as long as we dont ride it wolfpack speed!)
apparently there will be K-9's around the end or so so this may be my first ride with no weed in a while haha

i just tried to register...
they closed online registration... they said 470 people signed up.
They are allowing 70 more (i.e. if you want the badge, goodie bag and such)...
They cannot stop people from joining... but if they signed up more than 500, they would need a HARD CLOSURE for the streets (hint, hint).
Anyhow, don't be a punk and show without donating even if they dont sign you up...
Im planning on doing the route.
Taking the redline @ vermont/ santa monica to the NoHo station. I doubt i'll be one of the extra 70 early arrivals....

Great turn out hundreds of people and a shit load of cops at one time counted 53 motorcycle cops just like any Midnight Ridazz ride but without the beer

Were the motorcycle cops corking all of the intersections? Did anyone get a ticket for running a red? How do we get these motorcycle cops to cork for us on our rides????

I'm really bummed I missed this. Sounds like it was a lot of fun. Sorry that I flaked. I was in all the way until i realized how unprepared I was for artcycle scrambling to geT my ack together. Good to see you guys come by for the free print though! TV man and MD2 Esther...

Nobody got any tickets for anything. It was pretty well done, with motorcycle cops pulling over pretty much everyone in our path.
They would go ahead 1 or 2 blocks and pretty much cork the WHOLE intersection for the WHOLE group.
We had ambulances, TONS of cops on bikes.
We had the LAPD yelling at LAPD officers to stay in the right lane.
I was about 2 inches away from throwing up wine all over a police officer during the ride, haha. Did some things at some police stations that I probably won't ever be able to do again.
TV man light up the hearts and minds of SO MANY PEOPLE. It's hard not to laugh or smile when you see a guy on a old school Ross Apollo 5 speed with a freaking tube TV for a head. SO MUCH WIN! And the whole time I was telling people about the Valley Bikery.
MOST OF ALL
They did a really nice thing for some sick people, and maybe got some people on a bike.
Overall, it was worth paying for.

This ride is an ENORMOUS opportunity to build an understanding with LAPD.
Aside from the cops paid to run the ride, there were dozens of uniformed LAPD mtn bikes in the mix, as well as dozens more LAPD cyclists from the various divisions around town.
(You could spot them by their shirts with division Logos on them).
It was like any other ridazz ride except the whole force was corkin for us, and running down and throwing felony stops on anyone who intruded on our riding space :)

If you ever do prints again, I'd like one. You looked way too busy at Art Cycle and I had to leave.
Wore my Midnight Ridazz jersey and followed all the rules. I hope I left a positive impression of Midnight Ridazz to the other riders. Great fun riding with other Midnight Ridazz. A couple of people asked why I had those funny looking cards in my spokes.
I found out later that this was supposed to be a tour of all the LAPD stations in the Valley, that explains all the looping around we did but it was fun to be able to blow through every traffic light in town. The pace picked up on the last half of the ride. I got a flat and got sagged a couple of miles to the next PD station but was able to put in a new tube and pump up in the tow truck. Nice.

i'm bummed i haven't tried chilling with more people over the years... i need to get my act together and start getting more involved with MR again... the ride and people were great...
It was cool joking around with everyone on the ride... The LAPD seemed so confused at times when trying to communicate to each other; it was really funny.

naaaaaah it was fine. Santa Barbara Mike did the MR ride the night before and came out for this with only 3 hours of sleep (fuck yeah!! it was great to see you out) I had gotten only 2 hours of sleep and I consider anything before 1pm being ass crack of dawn.
