Ranking of 50 US cities by sustainability factors.

With the recent chats regarding public transportation and stuff, I though you would be interested in the rankings of LA as compared to 49 other US cities. I suspect that LA will be ranked lower in the public transportation category as this study does not reflect the increases in ticket prices or the reduction of service.

Also while surfing and researching public transportation I came across a couple of good links to the former Red Car System,

Nice map of the Red Car System
Wiki's reference to the system.

Yo,

This might be a good vid for some ride and educational night. Possibly at the Bike Oven, no?

I hope the rest of the movie doesn't have that annoying musick though! Oh yeah, even if you don't have a Mac, the movie plays.

Well, I guess Judge Doom's wish came true for LA after all.
Freeways abound, and we're all getting nowhere fast on them.
Especially truck driving, Tequila-swilling, renegades like myself.
OTOH,, most of the LA Red Line tracks remain buried beneath the current street systems.
And I also remember riding one of the preserved trains at that Perris Valley railroad museum.
Don't have fare, just hop on the cow-catcher!!

Not sure you're aware of this or not, but there is a faithful reproduction of a Red car that you can ride on in San Pedro.

Portland - Yeah there's alot we could learn from you guys. Too bad our city planners are not listening. :-(

Yes, it's a very nice Red Car replica we have down here. Unfortunately, it goes absolutely nowhere that anybody would need or want to go. Occasionally you'll see a couple of befuddled cruise ship passengers riding it from the cruise terminal to 22nd Street...and then right back. Otherwise it pretty much runs empty.

There's actually some talk of eventually expanding the line (if you can even call it that) to Cabrillo Beach, or having it veer up Sixth Street into downtown, either of which would make it a useful transportation option rather than an expensive, useless, and ultimately somewhat pathetic tourist trap.

agreed on all fronts!

I just thought I would let people know there was something out there that yes is running around aimlessly.
