Don't know if that's been mentioned here before. I hate censorship but I hope cafepress will pull it.

Seems like putting on of these on your ride would be a good way to incite violence agianst yourself or your vehicle; not that I would advocate such a thing . . .

Rather depressing, really. Can't we all just get along?

This is great, T-shirts for those that threaten to brake the law and assult people. It's like a scarlet letter, but the perpetrator pays for the letter.

On one hand that's pretty funny... I totally want the coffee mug.

On the other hand if I saw that sticker at the wrong moment, and there was no indication it was 100% tongue in cheek, said vehicle would be down a side-view mirror.

(ha ha-listen to how macho I sound on the internet. I fuck motherfuckers up on the internet. In real life -- eh, not so much. I love the internet.)

CIty H.

If you buy one, try to find out, how many of these things they sold. Get chummy with the vendor and try to find out. I'm interested in seeing if they sold any.

I had to write Cafe Press and ask them what their policy is on products that advocate commiting violence against an entire class of people.
Lets see what they say.

Stupid speech is still free speech. Remember all those "Kill a hippie" stickers from the punk days? I don't want to live in a society where people aren't free to offend me.

This "cafe press" place seems to have the market cornered in inflammatory bullshit:

I think I found my white elephant gift for next Christmas! Someone is going to be stoked.

Hey sexy I'll see if they'll come off that price -- $12 for a coffee mug is lame, but if I can get 2 for 1 consider yourself hooked up!

Hey look at it now! http://www.cafepress.com/bullshit4u

They made the shop owner change the picture of the car hitting the cyclist and took off the part of the phrase that said, " an 40 feet into the air".

Woo!!!!! I feel victorious now. Power to the Cyclists! Were taking back the streets!

Yeah!

It's a fucking joke. Don't be so reactionary to a STUPID T-Shirt. No one is that stupid to actually believe in that crap. If they do, they have issues greater than bikes on the road. The chances of an actual person will wear one of those shirts, and influence someone reading the shirt, to go out and run bikes off the road are pretty slim. It's a dumb t-shirt, don't give it power. Just ignore it. If you are still adverse about it, wait until you see someone wearing it. Then give them shit. Stupid people, do stupid things. Like wear Stupid t-shirts.

Here, read this: http://www.wired.com/politics/security/commentary/securitymatters/2007/05/securitymatters_0517

Did you see what it said previously? Too bad I didnt save the pictures. It was advocating violence to bikes. now it only says I dont share the road, and he took off the part about knocking them 40 feet into the air. Its totally different now and we made it change. F him or her! They just got FACED!

I just jumped on this thread, and I guess I missed it.

BUT, you did take care of it, so that's cool.

I'm curious what people did for it to change? Did they complain to Cafepress, or did they have a word with the owner of the particular store? basically, did you talk to the authoritah, or did you school the actual offender?

the reverend dak

I could only contact cafe press. But I put the fear of god into their bones. I just wish I could see the letter they sent to the store owner.

Tis a beautiful thing.

Also, I don't care if it was a joke either. If I saw a picture of a war prisoner being tortured Id make them take it off. bad example but yeah I was pissed.

The only censorship methods I will ever agree with, is if people have communication with who they are offended by, and are able to convince them to take things down on their own accord. I find a lot of things offensive, but I know that not everyone follows my ideals. The shirt/design that I saw is hardly offensive, it's just stupid. Arguably it's irresponsible, although I'm not convinced. I will defend their right to make whatever statements they feel fit. Because I will expect the same respect in return. I would like to reserve the right to wear or design any shirt I feel. Such as, "Cars suck, and so does your Momma".

Looks like that Fantastic Bullshit dude got all his stuff pulled. But I guess there's still stuff along these lines if you do a search for "share the road."

It's silly to censor this stuff, as lame as it is. Free speech even for asshats:

I just wrote and asked what their policy is about products that advocate violence against a group/class of people.

I think government/institutional censorship is always a problem. On the other hand, I feel like people do deserve to know what Cafe Press' policy is on products that advocate violence. There is a big difference between government or institutional censorship and a group of people expressing discontent with a company's policies and threatening to not give business to that company unless those policies are changed.

I'm torn. I Advocate Violence towards cyclists and I'm one of them. I ride a bike but I must destroy....must....destroy....

My events are all about destruction

destruction=fun.

Really though. It's the slippery slope of dictating what people can think or say, who's the final arbitrator? You? That would be scary being that most people can't event pay their phone bill on time let alone decide from right and wrong. This is so 12th grade government stuff, perhaps you guys slept though that class?

That's what I'm saying, man. Whenever somebody tries to censor me--and it's happened--it's not so much the oppression that pisses me off as the almost certain knowledge that I'm being told what I can and can't say by some schlub who is very likely even dumber than me, and probably can't even whistle the guitar solo from "Lights Out In London."
