THE SURF RIDE!!!!

mahalo ridazz!
Think: surf, wetsuits, bikinis, shorts, hawaiian shirts, towels, tanktops, thongs, straw hats, wifebeaters, sandals, tanning lotion, boogie boards, speedos---(ah, maybe not!)
Even though we are not riding to the beach, we will see some waves. (clue#1) We are gonna rock some dick dale, ventures, and even some surf/skate punk!
Please do not miss this ride, we have a special route planned out with a 1000ft downhill drop! (fixies will be fine)
see ya there!
oh yeah, please join our myspace.com/cruzwithus

if you're gonna ride in swimwear, make sure it's not salty... chafing is bad.

Great ride everyone! Happy Birthday Jeff!! It was cool to walk through Citywalk. I haven't been there for a long time. Big props to Big Bike Dan on the way up to Citywalk. He never got off his bike and made it look easy pulling his trailer. Hope those that ate it on the way down are alright from the fall and I hope you guys heal quickly. Thanks again for a great ride!! Great job CRUZZ WITH US!!

Awesome time everyone! From beach balls to haulin' balls down from Universal city!
Luckily no one got too hurt but it could have been way worse for myself and a few others. Just keep it safe so that we can see each other at the next ride.
That hill's gonna go down in history!

One of our friends was seriously injured that night. He has excellent doctors taking care of him right now. Please keep him in your thoughts while he recovers.

I got hit by another rider at the bottom of Universal and went down hard. I'm gimping around on a F'd up knee and shin. So a big FU out to riders who derby someone to the ground and keep going. Way to keep up the cyclist brotherhood, a-hole. Time for brakes on your fixie.
PS - I saw the guy hit the palm tree HARD as I was laying in the street. Hope you're ok man.

Yeah, I've never ridden down that side of the hill before, or even up to the top, but I had been as far as that stop sign at the bottom. I knew it was there, and I knew it got narrow as fuck, people were whizzing by me going down, and I got a few strange looks for stopping hard at the speed bumps, and I knew what I'd see at the bottom. To Jesse (dude who got up close and personal with the tree), hope you're ok man, to the other dude who ate some pavement, same. Still, it was a good ride, although riding through city walk would have made it a million times cooler, stupid security.

jesse is actually recovering at long beach memorial hospital and is going to be there a couple days. he's in some serious pain and has some internal bleeding.

yeah, we came down the lankershim side, by the metro station... that island by the stop sign with the trees was where people ate it.
What is it with all the steep roads in this city having stop signs at the bottom and islands that make the road narra as fuck?
I run brakeless and am a bit cautious coming down hills, but even when I had my old road bike I was the same, I grew up in a hilly fucking state (NH, half the state goes up the other half goes down), I know hills, and I know how to handle them. If I can't see the bottom, or know I'm gonna out spin my braking capabilities, I take it a bit slower, lose some cool points, but hey, without health insurance, I'd rather be safe than nursing something in a cast and a medical bill I can never pay off.

Aye, it was Jesse from Rancho.
And fixies were ok on the hill, most of em made it down fine. The two accidents were related to people trying to split the two cars sitting at the stop sign at the bottom.

I am sorry to hear that the injuries were worse then I thought. Everyone get well ASAP! On an unrelated note: the way we were treated by the rent-a-cops at City Walk was classic. They were all disorganized and crazed. The real cops (LA Sherriffs) said hello to me as we all walked by. In the future, we should have a plan of attack prior to getting to a private location (which holds itself out as a open, safe public place). I had a similar issue at the LACMA during a LA CM ride a few months back.

Amen, ride as reckless as you want, so long as it's only yourself you're endangering.
I don't know if you can
pour one out
for a speedy recovery, but if you can....I pour.
To the man on the cruiser that whent down first (as a result of that dude clipping your rear wheel). You're an awesome guy, you went down hard, but got up as fast as you could 'cause you knew there were riders right behind you. We would've had more than 3 down had you not done that. Thank you.

Eric Hair - thanks man, I was the one on the cruiser (see my rant above :) ).
Yeah that was my first thought - "Holy fuck I'm about to get run over by 50 people and my bike will cause x amount of wrecks." It was purely the adrenaline talking....I still can't ride a bike and got a mean limp workin'. I fully expect that the dude who hit me was out of control. We were almost at the stop sign fer crap's sake and he drilled me. I found him at the Metro station after and instead of socking him, I just said "next time you make someone crash you might wanna stop to see if they're ok..."

Jesse, Thrasher, Bicyclingallmycities, and all:
It hurts me greatly to see that ridazz got injured. My apologies goes out to the crashers, my only intention was to have a different, interesting, and fun ride. Instead, some ridazz got injured, which sucks big time. My hopes and prayers are for a quick recovery for you guys.

Tree 1 - Bike 0
I just wanted to say thanks for all the love and support from the ridazz both during the ride and after. Im still laid out in long beach memorial and probably will be till after this weekend. I ended up making my insides bleed real good, mostly my kidney and liver as well a minor fracture on my hand. Strage how you can be all fucked up on the inside, yet fine on he outside. Hopfully i'll see ya all soon, but the healings gotta take place first .
O -Does anyone have that picture dingo made me take with him ? Annnd if anyone would tell me what i looked iked from behind when i smacked the tree that woluld be awesome, id love to get an outsiders perpective! Thanks Peace & Love Jesse

Here's the picture you've been lookin' for...
Hey man! I'm glad you're on the mend... I severed my liver once and it hurt like hell but it heals fast. I was right behind you when you hit the tree. You had to have been going faster than a one legged dog on roller skates! And your pedals were throwing sparks like the 4th of July as they smacked that curb.
Then you wrapped around that tree and we came to your rescue (Dingo and I)
God speed to a full recovery.

any updates on/from mrzeta? I saw you hit the tree, right as I was getting hit....yours was brutal dude, I thought you were dead. But I saw you get up and give a half-assed "I'm ok" wave. So I picked myself up off the street and kept going. Glad you're alive. That was like 5 seconds of pandemonium....

Glad to hear you're in recovery status.
Your scene was bad lookin'.
You flew past me with sparks all over the place.
Somehow your bike stopped instantly and you flew about 2 feet forward and 3 feet up, coming to an instant and alarming stop back/side first into the tree.
You bounced off, landed and didn't move.
My first thought was, "that guy just died."
Then you moved, tried to sit up.
I yelled (stupidly), "you ok man!?"
You said "no"
Then you laid back down and other people were around you.

Thanks again for asking, i hope all the other folks are okay as well.....as for me :
I am recovering, i just got out of the hospital yesterday and am slowly easing off the meds and on to the herbals. Its strange, if you were to look at me i have almost no bruises or scrapes. I look unscathed and heatlthy minus the weight i lost from that awesome hospital food. Its all internal, which makes alot more sense when you say i hit with my back/ side. I thought/wish i would have wrapped around with my front and broken a few ribs, i would have been better off! As of right now my lacerated liver is healing nicely but one of my kidneys is on its way out, good thing most of us are born with two. Thats the scoop, ill probably be off the whip for about 2/3 weeks but it'd be a cold day in hell when a measly accident keeps me from the Ridazz - Peace & Love - Z

Wow, that is a sobering announcement.
I think talking about accidents that have happened and their effects can spread some good awareness on accident prevention. Of course, this doesn't mean we can't have fun anymore, but a fellow rider possibly losing a kidney?... That's going make me slow down my ride and keep a stronger look out for others.
I'm glad you are recovering.
Ride on.
