And all he is so pissed of about is a million dollars a year. For bikes. For the whole country!!!
On a trillion dollar budget.

No way, I had no idea the Democrats had it in them.

Riding bikes, what a solution to high gas prices.

Poor Patrick Mc Henry, he obviously never had the opportunity to enjoy Midnight Ridazz. If he did, his tune he would be singing would be such a different song.

Seriously, One Million dollars of the federal gov't money per year, that is literally a drop in the bucket, in relation to Federal dollars spent. I can't believe it is so little and the Rebus are taking two minutes to make such a big deal about ti.

He's the youngest member of our current 110th congress. It may be andectotal to say he's just young and stupid and needs guidance.

But wait, He is getting guidance from U.S. Energy Secretary Mary Peters to ban bikes and mass transit for "infrastructure changes" with our interstate system. Remember the I-35 they cry as if it's 9/11 of our interstate commerce upgrade needs... without bikes.

I work with a company full of yuppie jocks and he's not that different than any of the republicans I work with at the South Bay who prize the Sarbanes-Oxley Act as the champion of enhancing revenues for electronic archiving and regulatory compliance measures. So his sarcasm about energy solutions to ride a bike versus clean coal (isn't that an energy source from the 17th century mr congressman) is as good as the "last word" with Jerry Springer. Cest la vie.

I prefer the guy on the left, nice watch, clean shirt and a round face.

Unfortunately, it is minor issues such as this, that people say "see there is a difference in the two parties"

Really, what difference is a million dollar going to make, covered over 50 states?

Yes, the paymasters are the one at this point in time calling the shots.
Yes, the money does call the shots, but why, because we don't do a damm thing about it. You can cry here, but do you really try to make any change in the way things are done. We are going to try to tonight, and we will see who is willing to show up and who is just going to, say we have no power, on this board.

Oh yeah, that right, don't mix the bikes and the politics. That right, politics don't make the laws and spending budget in regards to, how, when, and where we can ride our bikes. Politics also don't have a military or pseudo military force at there hands to say do this to bicycle riders, or don't do this to them.

I never said dont mix politics and bikes... I only said dont mix unrelated politcs and bikes because bikes appeal to both conservative and liberal minded people and there are common grounds that should be rallied around....

that being said, the reason no one does anything is the same reason no one has ever done anything. money is too powerful and we all want it too.

maybe you have come up with the solution to many of our problems,

Let quit letting money rule us, simple, hard to do, but actually easy to do, once we let go of material desires.

Start that movement.

I've reduced my desire for money greatly over the last few years... and I live a cheap life, no cable, no movies, no theme park entertainment. but I still enjoy good healthy food and fullfilling experiences..... I also enjoy bartering for things....

last night WP stopped at the Nokia center downtown and I felt like throwing up. not because of the ride, but because of the absolute garbage that my tax dollars subsidized... people love that shit too. the guard there was not getting my sarcasm in the slightest. she thought the place was an amazing wonderous wonderland. all I could see and hear were giant monitors blabbing commercials at me. I hope it all burns down in a fire.

Roadblock,

I agree with your view of the Nokia center downtown - that place is like a joke about modern living in the U.S. I am sure that the designers are racking their brains trying to think of another place to put large blinking screens in my face.

(rant)

This Republican guy's stupid line of criticism is based on some facts that a lot of people understand about automobiles.

Automobiles ARE NOT efficient movers of people. What automobiles, and automobile infrastructure, and automobile culture do is make us spend our personal wealth as fast as we can make it. Car ownership is the core of our national economy - it is the biggest link to national consumer/pop culture that exists in most of our lives. That consumerism has gotten us to tear every possible resource out of the earth to make ourselves rich.

So, when people suggest bicycles as a means of transport (a entirely reasonable transportation decision) - they are ignoring the economic repercussions of such a suggestion being implemented.

I think that cyclists need to focus on a picture of our future without such a powerful consumer culture. If we can find those industries and individuals who will benefit from our suggestion - then we will build the alliance that truly will make bicycling a dominant form of trasport in this country.

This Republican douchebag is obviously on the other side of this issue. Who is on (or could be on) cyclists side?

Bicycle manufacturers, property owners in downtown or historic cores of cities, businesses in historic business districts, local chambers of commerce, construction companies and developers who specialize in urban construction and development, construction and engineering firms looking to make a killing tearing out car infrastructure and making ped and bike infrastructure, insurance and health industry companies (since our mode of transport lowers their risks), and others.

How we get around in this country has a lot ot do with the type of world we want to live in. This Repubilcan wants us to invest more money raping the landscape for cheap energy - he wants to kee the beast going. We need to offer more than a way a to get around - we need a coalition of economic intrests to push a pro-cycling agenda that re-localizes money and goods flows. There are drawbacks to a system built that way - but it is a more sustainable method of providing for ourselves than the bullshit this congressman is offering.

(end rant)

because riding a bike is a slippery slope.... pretty soon you are enjoying the journey rather than the destination (some type of mega-mall) pretty soon you are spending more time excercising for free rather than at a mega-gym complex, pretty soon you are getting healthier and not requiring mega pharmaceutical cures.... pretty soon you are finding new small community shops and restaurants instead of parking at the mega mall to do all your shopping and spending gads on fuel to get there. it's all fucking wrong!
