THE 7-ELEVEN RIDE!!!
Thread started by speedybrian2000 at 03.26.07 - 4:43 pm

Is everyone tired of going to overpriced bars and paying $6-7 dollars for one beer? Well, on this night, we will be stoppin at every 7-11 in the area to pick up beer and regroup. This will be one of our slowest paced ride but the most funnest ride!

7-11s TO BE MADE AS KWIK-E-MARTS
-------------------------------------------------

11 7-11 stores are going to be refurbished as Kwik-E-Marts to coincide with the Simpsons movie:

If all goes as planned, the convenience store chain plans to refit 11 stores across the U.S. -- Richmond is an unlikely choice -- to resemble the front of the Kwik-E-Mart, the convenience store that Homer and other characters frequent in the classic cartoon TV series.

Customers also will be able to buy products inspired by the nearly two-decades-old show, including KrustyO's cereal, Buzz Cola and iced Squishees (the cup says Squishee, but the contents will be Slurpee).

The chain also will use pictures of Simpsons characters to promote 7-Eleven's line of fresh foods, such as placing the face of Homer and his classic "Mmmm . . . sandwich" quip on sandwich wrappers.

Have you tried taking the wheels off your bike to fit it in your car? Also, where are you coming from? There is always public transportation. The 7-11 Ride starts just down the street from the NoHo Redline station.

"If I show up to this 7-11 ride alone...will anybody talk to me???" - bkk

You shouldn't worry about it bkk. Like 420 said... have an open mind and you'll enjoy yourself. Imagine you're on the sidewalk realizing you have a flat... and worried that you'll be left behind but it's a great feeling when people riding by ask, "Are you alright?" "You need help?". It makes me feel good that complete strangers are willing to help each other out. I remember I had a flat and this guy named Chris w/ Bicycle Kitchen helped me out. The ride was way gone but he rode w/ me and we cut through some blocks and joined up w/ them again.

Get there a little early before 9:30pm and just feel the vibe. You'll see little clicks here and there but you have to realize is that those 'clicks' started out as people going solo and just making friends. Sure there are those that always come around w/ friends but most don't. If you got questions, feel free to ask them. Make sure that your bike is road worthy. I'm no pro but make sure it runs ok. Protect the noggin and bring lights to be seen with. Bring an xtra tube, patch kit, pump if you have one and you'll be set. Maybe a bus token just in case. Real quick.. not everyone has helmets or either have lights so if you don't have one... you can still ride. it's just safer if you have that stuff but w/ the 'safety coccoon' of the other riders... you don't have to worry as much w/ being seen.

"Just tried to fit my bike in my car and I CAN'T!!! I have to get a bike rack installed before I get on this midnightridazz thang." - bkk

What kind of car again? Do you have folding rear seats? You can take the tire off the front wheel and stick your bike in your trunk w/ the seats down. That should work for most cars. Where are you from? You can take the Metro Rail in. Just remember to check the schedules so you can catch one back. The bike rides go past midnight so just plan ahead. The Metro stops running trains when it get's late.

The more you ride... you'll notice the same people and they'll recognize you. Just remember... to have an open mind and everything will just fall into place. You'll make friends... you'll start asking everyone you know if they have a bike... and if they do... tell them to come along. Be predictable when you ride... relax... and enjoy the ride.

The question about 'will anyone talk to me' is a good and fair one. My answer to you is that if you are a hot chick, all the guys will talk to you. If you are just an average guy no one probably will. My experience is that I've been going to these things for a while and almost no one has made an effort to talk to me. And yes, I have brought beer, helped others fix their bikes, yelled at motorists and dressed in funky clothes. I've made many attempts to talk to people and they 've talked back, but almost no one has ever just ridden up and iniated a conversation with me. Most people come in their own little cliques. The only time I see them stray from that is to hit on the women who show up.

It's not really a very friendly group. I've brought friends who have agreed and haven't wanted to come back.

BBB,
Too bad about your experience, mine is similar but I found out that some of the alienation was actually brought on by my own attitude. I felt like an outsider, acted like one and thus treated as one.

While there are several cliques, a good portion of the ridazz are fairly new to it. I have met many, on every ride, who are riding for the first time. Their experience is similar to mine in the beginning but if you meet one new person at each ride pretty soon you'll know most of the regulars and probably regret it 80)

Cheers,

Thanks for writing, Nomad. Yeah, I've done a s**tload of rides and have talked to a bunch of people, but found most of them would rather hang with their clique then invite someone in.

I'm not going on the ride tonight....I've just about given up on them due to this issue. But to everyone else, here's my suggestion....

Find someone you don't know....talk to them, invite them into your group, if you have one. Be friendly and mingle...don't just stay with your crowd. Your niceness will have a really big impact on people enjoying this and returning. And don't just chat up the ladies.

BBB, i'm sorry to hear that people haven't been too friendly. I didn't know a soul when i started riding on these rides but decided to give it a shot because it sounded like fun. I went to the first few rides by myself, and I made the effort to talk to a few people that were standing around. I started to recognize people and would chat them up on the next rides. Sometimes it took a few rides for people to remember me, but my experience has been most of the people I talk to are great people who are extremely outgoing and friendly. I've made quite a few friends from these rides, and a lot of friends that I ride with on a quite regular basis outside of the Midnight Ridazz. Give it a chance. If someone isn't nice to you, move on and talk to someone else. Just keep trying. There are plenty of great people on these rides. I promise people will talk to you. You can always ask someone about their bike or offer up a beer to get a conversation started. Or you can always hunt me down. I always love chatting with someone new. I promise you'll meet some really fun and interesting people, but like anything, sometimes it takes just a little effort.

I started doing the Ridazz thing about a year ago when I moved here from SF. I'm not very personable, but you just fall into meeting people on these rides; and if you don't fall into it, just force it. Walk up to a clque and stand there...something is bound to happen.

I'll be at the ride tonight, I'll be wearing a neon hoodie, come say hi if you see me.

BBB,

I'm sorry to hear about your experiences. But that's kind of normal. It's the same kind of thing that happens at a new job, in a new class in school, at the AA meeting. I started going to Midnight Ridazz about 2 years ago. It took me over a year to make the friends that I have now, and we might look like a clique, we might "talk to our own", but it be because we've gotten to know each other. It took me FOREVER to remember brassknuckles name, I'm still reminding people MY name. I see tons of familiar faces on these rides, and tons of these faces I haven't had the time or courage to introduce myself. I mean, you can choose to be a fake and run around and be "buddies" with everyone. Or you can be yourself, and the friendships will happen. I remember in college, for the first couple months you don't know who anyone is, towards the end you suddenly will have best friends and at the least aquaintenences (sp?). And consider this, last night at Critical Mass, there were a TON of people who I knew their names even, but I never got around to say Hi to them personally. It happens. These Ridazz have been some of the most genuine and friendly people I've ever met. It's really a community and they are very inclusive. Give it time, and be yourself.

Billybikebob:

I'm not sure how to say this without sounding snide, but have you considered the possibility that you're trying too hard?

It would be disingenuous for me to say that MR is just a bike ride. Clearly, there is a social element, particularly among the people who are more active in planning and promoting the rides, and among those who participate often enough to become well-known MR "characters." But at the same time...it's just a bike ride, you know? It's not a church social group, or Match.com or...

So maybe try this: just show up, saddle up, enjoy the fresh air and exercise, see the city in ways you never thought possible, and have fun. If you make some friends on top of that, great. If not, you still had a good time riding your bike.

Incidentally, I am an ugly guy in my thirties, and people are invariably friendly to me at rides. It can't be that hard. Hell, Sexy will talk to you. He loves everybody. He's one of those anarchist types; I think it's part of the job description.

Ride on, peace out, one love, keep on truckin!

Man oh man, I go alway from this site for two days, and I miss the soap opera. I always say,"I got to stop looking at this so much", and when I do, I say "how did I miss all this?"

That was another fabulous ride. Kov, come out to the SFV Critical Mass tuesday. You don't know what stupid valley is, until you experienced that.

It was a great prepertatory for the SpokeN'Dissent ride today. I love getting 3-1/2 hour of sleep after two days of riding and partying, before leading a complex, slow pace ride, in which you have to be "ON" to make it good. Yes slow pace rides are really harsh on the body, but I ain't complainig, I love the Sn'D rides. It's not Sn'S, it a different kind of fun.

Jeremy, you stated what you where doing with the outfit, but I didn't get it until right now. You where dressed as the 7-11 red and green, you outdid yourselve again. Very cool. FuzzBeast, it looks as if you where hitting on the same thing , if you where or not, you looked pretty damm cool last night.

So I looked and asked everybody if they are BillyBikeBob.
You said you wouldn't be there, and everybody who read this knew what I was talking about, when I asked for you. I didn't read these post until right now. People told me about it.

Once I read it. I got a suspecsion, on who BBB is. Did anybody notice that BBB just signed on to the site 3/31/07 and he has been on lots of ride??? RSR Fluffers, think about it. Think about the context, you've seen it before.

No pictures or links. People, put something up there to entertain me, nobody like to figuer out who is who without some hints.

In reguards to "Cliques" you got to clique in. They is either chemistry between people or there isn't. If not, that the way it goes.
That life. As PC said, I talk to everybody, whether they like it or not.
If there is not chemistry, then what the hell am I suppose to do. That right, I find another potential victim, who will have to listen to my B.S. or I go back to one of my cliques and they got to deal with me.

bkk, I don't remember seeing you, but you "horn on in". From the looks of your photo, I know one of my homeboys from my "Clique" is going to be hornin in on you like a bad suit, so watch out. Don't worry, he is harmless, and real good time, to do what we all do on these rides. After all he is one of my homeboys.

Much Props to that guy who put this on, and everybody who show'd up and participated. It was a great party, a great ride.
I had fun with the cast of 7-11, especially Goathe' from Burbank.
He came out with pasteries for us, before we all split the parking lot.

Oh yeah, one more thing. I got the honor, to play BigBikeDan today on SnD ride. That rig and it's load is a serious job to carry around. Remeber he does it all for us. Give Dan lots of room. It is not easy to manuver, start and stop that thing. It is really hard to ride with it. Dan makes it look easy, but it is not. I've carried other sound systems and trailers before, but that thing is different then anything I have ever operated.. I also got to see why it is mandatory that he gets a new trailer. Think of your little lite racing bike as a little porsche; fast and easy to handle, easy to start and stop. Now think of BigBikeDan gear as a Disel Truck. Hard to start, stop and park. Backing that thing up is even a challenge. So give him room, and don't be scared to tell somebody who doesn't know, to get out of his way. If your riding with him and coming up to a questionable intersection, ride ahead and let him know what is up. That thing is whole different ball game. I suggest eveybody take a turn, carrying that beast around for one ride. You will have a whole different respect for what that man does for us. And aahhhhh, Dan should never have to buy himself his own drinks again. I'm not telling anybody what to do, but that man deserves it.

Damn straight about BBD, dave, that man is amazing. I ride home with him after a lot of rides, and even in the cold after miles of riding, he still keeps coming.

As for the way I was dressed last nigh, I wasnt intending anything special, it's the same as I usually dress... I think it's the addition of the sideburns, and the fact that I found some aviators I can wear at night...

Hey,

So i was at the 7-11 ride (kudos to those who set it up) and it was more fun and more social. And yeah, I heard that guy (the one everyone calls sexy something), asking for me at the microphone, saying he was dedicating the ride to me, etc. I thought that was nice. UNTIL...I took a moment during the ride to ride up to him and say hi....and he completely blew me off. He was too busy chatting up one of the drunk white t-shirt gals. Thought it was hysterical.

Fun ride though....although it seemed like the blonde aborigine guy took it over in the end.

Well what did you expect me to do, stop my comedy routine I was in the middle of with the blonde girl, to say "hi, how you doing, I'm Sexy, nice to meet ya" Of course I knew you would doing welll since I was talking to you, of couse I am Sexy, (just look at me), yes it is nice to meet me. I don't blow people off, I was obviously invovled in conversation, and fun conversation if my memory serves me right.

I appreciate the respect of not doing a potential bike c__k block, while I was talking to a girl. It wouldn't of mattered anyways, cause I got a women or a Giraffe or whatever you want to call it. She goes by BigSexxy, you might not see her too often, (somebody has to bring home the money in this relationship), but when you do, you'll know who I'm talking about. I don't "hit on" the girls on, " the rides", so you won't be interfering in that way. As I was saying if you did come up and started talking, you might of been the one making a new friend, with me or with the white t-shirt blonde. But it sounds as if you dropped the ball again.

Since I dedicated a ride to you, asked everybody in the crowd, one by one if they where you, and you didn't respond by either a crowd annoucement or when I asked you to your face, looks as if your going to have to make up for it.

First of all, I don't like driver, who drive to fast, so if your going to go after a driver, make sure it is a speeding one. Second, dressing up for the theme of the ride always impresses me. So plan ahead with an outfit for the next ride. Third Beer, yes I like and drink beer. But not any beer will do, take notice of what beer I'm drinking at the time, I don't like to mix my beers, it doesn't agree with me. So if I'm drinking a St. Pauli girl, don't offer me a steel reverse, that won't work, I don't drink the lower price domestic beers. You could always go up to the counter when I'm purchasing my beverage and throw down the money for it, that is impressive, or if you can't afford that, you could offer to go in part way with the cost, (look at that, a reason to talk to someone, then will have to share a beer together). Fourth, if I get a flat, don't just stop and offer to help me fix it, have the tube out (700x23, presta) with a pump and a tire lever, so I don't have to pull it out of my own bag. It would be even better if I didn't even after take my bag off my back. With the beer's maybe you could carry them around for us, those things get heavy in the back pack.

I know this sounds like a rather extreme request, remember though
you brought it up here, and I called you out on the last ride, many of many times. So its up to you now. Maybe you'll even get into one of my cliques, if you play your cards right.

The blonde Aborigine, you got the country right, but the wrong species. Everybody stated already what that was. He was doing his job, not hi-jacking the ride. He gets the after party together, right before the ride ends, looks as if he was inviting you along, and you say he was hi-jacking the ride. His parties and guest list, are only for the "A"list crowd, (meaning everybody on the ride) and you didn't go. Another missed opportunity.

So, there you go BBB, sounds as if you got your work cut out for you now. You could of just came to the party like everybody else and had a good time. You insult my friends, don't responde to me when I asked for you. Now your going to have to make up for it.

Good luck

BBB,
Be careful what you ask for, you might just get it. I missed the ride but I should be at the next one. Also the Wolfpack is tonight, that should be a good group to ride with. We don't talk much when we ride since we can't but the stops are always fun.

I think sexydaves getting carried away witrh himself. Theres no need to buy your way into any clique by offering beers or carrying beers, or even going out of your way to say hello to somebody, although saying hello helps. I'm not the most social type of guy but even I've made a few acquaintences, the guys I consider my friends are just regular people, not hipsters or elitists in any way that I've noticed. Even sexydave. But they like riding.

The point of these rides is to get out and go for a ride, at least for me, in a large crowd of like minded people. Most of these turkeys are just bike junkies, they live for the next ride. If you go on enough of these rides and really enjoy getting out on your bike, you'll meet the regulars, its inevitable.

Just ride your bike, they'll notice that you're as addicted as they are and sooner or later, you'll realize you're hooked and you'll wish you'd never met these jokers.

Hey Sexy,

Got your note, but I think we need to get the ground rules straight here. You really are some high maintenence princess aren't you? But I mean that in a good way. With a few adjustments here I think we can be great friends.

Yeah, costumes are great, but I might not even try that again, cause I could never top your effort last week...man, that lonely bike guy costume you had on was awesome. Very realistic.
Next, you'll drink whatever beer I give you. In my opinion, you've had too many years of Stella and Chimay. I understand that lonely guys try to treat themselves right. But when I see you, it's nothing but PBR...and you'll like it and say thank you.
Last, when I see you stranded on the side of the road, I'll stop with a handful of lube...but it won't be for your bike! OH YEAH! And again, you'll say thank you.

Got it? Now quit your bitch squealing and let's be friends...
