There will come a day that the Earth will "renew" itself... whether or not it will happen on 12/21/12 is a completely mystery until that day arrives. I just want to see a visual of what it "could" look like once it does happen... and count on it that it will happen.
What was the premise? That earth is struck by a meteor? Yeah, it could happen. It could happen any day. Very highly unlikely it will happen on the day predicted. I just know I'm not wasting my money to go see it.

No, the premise is POLE REVERSALS. Well, according to the interview with the director. Except, if it were really about the POLES REVERSING (which by the way, do some research, is not an uncommon thing... we just havent been witness to a major one in a couple thousand years - altho recently, as far back as early 2001 I believe there was one, but it was a minor one) In any case, electricity would fail... and planes, as electric vehicles that they are, would not be in the sky. Same for the 10,000+ debris/satellite (working and non working) circulating the earth's atmosphere. I believe those fireballs raining down could even be those same satellites I just mentioned.
The Doomsayers will finally have a reason to SHUT THE FUCK UP after it's all said and done.
And if they don't, plenty of leftover materials to fashion bullets or arrows out of.
On the other hand, it would be cool if the ending is a sad one where everyone dies.
In fact at the end, the damage is so catastrophic, alien species finally find Earth and have to put warning buoys in orbit around the planet to keep ships from landing and being destroyed there.
Oh, and as an "icing on the cake" there will be this post-credits roll scene where Jesus also comes back and commandeers the lone ship the Evangelicals all got on.
They think they're going to be saved, but then Jesus steers the gigantic monstrosity into Venus and drops 'em all off into Hades realm.
